Hearthome Contest
The next morning, at the Hearthome Pokemon Center; Lincoln's group was just finishing breakfast.
"How do you think you and Dawn will do in today's Pokemon Contest, Stella?" Lincoln asked.
"All I can say is that I'm definitely going to get my third ribbon." said Stella.
"Only if I let you." said Dawn.
"Just remember to have fun, you two." said Sam.
"Yeah." said Luna. As Lincoln was about to wipe some syrup from his pancakes off his lips, Stella stops him.
"Let me get that." said Stella before she kisses Lincoln on the lips, savoring the taste of them, along with the syrup, while Dawn watches with a frown.
"I'm gonna get my Shieldon out of storage." said Lincoln. He goes to the PC and uses it to swap his Hippopotas for his Shieldon.
Everyone exits the Pokemon Center and makes their way to the Contest Hall. Along the way, Lincoln uses his Poketch to call his family.
"Hi, son." said Lynn Sr.
"Hi, Dad." Lincoln replied.
"What are you all up to right now?" asked Rita.
"We're on our way to the Pokemon Contest Hall here in Hearthome City." said Lincoln.
"Yeah, Stella's parents are here already, waiting for her performance to begin." said Rita.
"I'm sure she and Dawn will be awesome." said Lincoln.
"And I had Stunky stink up Rusty like you asked; not like he needed it to smell bad with that cheap cologne he wears all the time." said Lana.
"Good to know, Lana." Lincoln replied.
"We'll talk to you later, son." said Lynn Sr.
"Okay, Dad." said Lincoln before ending the call.
The group soon reaches the Contest Hall and head inside.
"I wonder what the other coordinators are like." said Dawn.
"We'll have to wait and see." said Stella.
"Do your best." said Lincoln. Dawn smiles before she kisses Lincoln on the cheek, making him blush before Stella does the same before she and Dawn glare at each other. The two coordinators head backstage to the dressing rooms while the others head into the stage area to find some seats.
In the dressing rooms, Stella and Dawn were just finished getting into their coordinator outfits.
"I can't wait to do my performance." said Stella as she removes her hairclip, letting her hair down.
"Me, too." said Dawn as she puts her choker around her neck.
"Hey, Stella and Dawn." a familiar voice calls out, making Stella and Dawn look to see Zoey walking over to them, wearing her coordinator outfit.
"Zoey!" said Stella.
"You're entering the contest also?" asked Dawn.
"Of course." said Zoey. "And don't think this will be like the Jubilife Contest."
"We'll see about that." said Stella.
"Anyway, see you two out on the stage." said Zoey.
Later, on the stage, Marian was walking out onto it and over to the microphone at the center of it.
"Hello, everyone!" said Marian. "Welcome to the Hearthome Contest! Today, coordinators will be competing to win the Hearthome Contest ribbon." She then holds up a gold, oval-shaped object with a crown on it, along with dark pink and white-stripe ribbons coming out from it. "Now let's meet our panel of judges!" She then points towards Raoul Contesta, Mr Sumiko, and Nurse Joy.
"I eagerly await the perfomances of today's coordinators." said Raoul Contesta.
"They should be remarkable." said Mr. Sumiko.
"I hope everyone has fun today." said Nurse Joy.
"And with that, let's get this contest started!" said Marian. Everyone in the audience, and at the Loud house, watch as the coordinators dazzled everyone with their performances.
"And up next, we have Dawn!" said Marian. Lincoln, Luna, and their friends cheered when Dawn comes out on stage.
"Pachirisu, spotlight!" said Dawn as she lets out her Pachirisu in a burst of electricity. "Pachirisu, use Swift all around you!" Pachirisu starts swinging her tail around, releasing a bunch of stars from it. "Now use Electro Ball!" Pachirisu creates a ball of electricity that the Swift stars gets drawn into and start conducting electricity, making them glow brightly; the Electro Ball then shoots up into the air and explodes, making the stars cascade to the ground and burst into stardust in midair. Everyone cheers loudly for Dawn's performance.
"That was awesome!" said Lincoln.
"Totally, dude." said Luna.
"Can Stella top that?" asked Sam.
"We'll have to wait and see." said Clyde.
"Quite a spectacular performance." said Raoul Contesta.
"Truly remarkable." said Mr. Sumiko.
"That performance really shows the skills of the Pokemon and coordinator." said Nurse Joy. After two more performances, it was soon Stella's turn.
"Go, Stella!" said Lincoln. Stella looks at Lincoln before blowing him a kiss and winks at him, making him smile; she then pulls out a Pokemon.
"Corsola, you're up!" said Stella as she tosses Corsola's pokeball and releases her with pink bubbles. "Okay, Corsola, fire Bubble Beam up into the air, then use Ancient Power!" Corsola looks straight up and releases glowing bubbles from her mouth up into the air; white energy forms around her body and it forms into a silver ball of energy and she launches it up straight through the bubbles, causing them to burst, making blue sparkles fall down along with silver sparkles from Ancient Power. "Now jump up and use Aqua Ring!" Corsola jumps up while droplets of water formed around her body; they combined with some of the sparkles from the Bubble Beam and Ancient Power combo to create three sparkling rings of water around her. She lands back on the stage with the three sparkling rings while the remaining sparkles rain down around her. Everyone cheered and applauded for Stella's performance.
"That was amazing!" said Lincoln.
"It sure was." said Clyde.
"This Pokemon Contest stuff pretty good." said Simon.
"That was a very impressive performance." said Raoul Contesta.
"And very remarkable." said Mr. Sumiko.
"That performance shows the hard work both Pokemon and coordinator have put to prepare such a beautiful combination." said Nurse Joy.
Back at the Loud house, everyone was cheering for Stella's performance.
"That was beautiful." said Lola.
"Totes." said Leni.
"Go, Stella!" said Mr. Zhau.
"That's our girl." said Mrs. Zhau.
"Next up, we have Zoey!" said Marian. Zoey steps out onto the stage and tosses a pokeball, letting out her Glameow.
"Glameow, use Shadow Ball straight up!" said Zoey. Her Glameow launches a ball of dark energy up towards the ceiling. "Now use Shock Wave on it!" Glameow releases a jolt of electricity from her body that hits the Shadow Ball, making it sparkle with electricity. "Now use Shadow Claw on it!" Her Glameow leaps up while one of her claws was coated in a purple energy and she slashes through the combined attacks, making their energies scatter and explode in a awe-inspiring fireworks display."
"Quite an amazing performance!" said Raoul Contesta.
"Very remarkable!" said Mr. Sumiko.
"The skills and trust between Pokemon and coordinator was easy to see with that performance." said Nurse Joy.
After one more performance, everyone waited to see who was moving on to the Battle Stage; they all watch the screen and saw that Stella, Dawn, and Zoey made it to the next round.
"I made it!" said Stella.
"Me, too!" said Dawn.
"Don't think I'll go easy on any of you two." said Zoey.
"We don't want you to." said Stella.
"You're gonna wish I do." said Zoey with a smirk.
Soon, everyone was ready for the Battle Stage to begin. The first match was Stella against a boy with red hair, wearing a cowboy outfit named Duncan.
"Okay, Ponyta, let's go!" said Duncan, throwing a pokeball, releasing a ponylike Pokemon with a fiery mane followed by red flames. Sam points her pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Ponyta, the Fire Horse Pokemon. Its legs grow strong while it chases after its parents. It runs all day in fields and on mountains." said Sam's pokedex; a sad expression appeared on her face when the pokedex mentioned 'parents', reminding her of hers and Simon's parent.
"Corsola, you're up!" said Stella, throwing Corsola's pokeball and releases her, followed by pink bubbles.
"Okay, Ponyta, use Flame Wheel!" said Duncan. Ponyta charges at Corsola while a wheel of fire surrounds it and it rams into Corsola, but not doing much damage, only causing Stella to lose only a few points; fire surrounds Corsola's body.
"Oh man, Corsola's burned." said Lincoln.
"Corsola, Bubble Beam!" said Stella. Corsola fires glowing bubbles from her mouth and they hit Ponyta, dealing super effective damage, lowering Ponyta's speed, and causing Duncan to lose points. Corsola flinches in pain from her burn and loses some stamina.
"Ponyta, Tail Whip!" said Duncan. Ponyta runs at Corsola and wags its tail onto her, weakening her defense.
"Corsola, use Ancient Power!" said Stella. Corsola becomes surrounded by white energy; it forms into a silver ball of energy and she launches it at Ponyta, hitting it, dealing super effective damage, and causing Duncan to lose more points; energy surges through Corsola's body.
"What's going on with Corsola?" asked Simon.
"Ancient Power has a chance of strengthening all the stats of the Pokemon that used it." replied Sam.
"Now, Corsola, Water Gun!" said Stella. Corsola releases a stream of water from her mouth and it hits Ponyta, knocking it out.
"Ponyta!" shouts Duncan.
"Since Ponyta is unable to battle; the winner is Stella Zhau." said Marian.
"We did it!" cheered Stella.
"Way to go, Stella!" cheered Lincoln.
"That was great!" said Clyde. Back at Royal Woods.
"That was literally amazing." said Lori.
"Our daughter's going to the finals!" cheered Mrs. Zhau.
"That Hearthome ribbon is as good as hers." said Mr. Zhau.
"She still has to beat whoever makes it to the final round." said Lisa. Back at the Hearthome Contest Hall, Duncan returns Ponyta to its pokeball; he tips his hat down to Stella and walks backstage.
"Now it's Dawn vs Zoey!" said Marian. Both coordinators step out onto the battle area stand across from each other.
"Let's see how much you've improved, Dawn." said Zoey.
"You're about to see." said Dawn. She and Dawn each take a pokeball off their waists; Zoey throws hers, releasing her Glameow; while Dawn throws hers, releasing her Buneary.
"Glameow, use Fake Out!" said Zoey. Her Glameow moves quickly towards Dawn's Buneary and swipes her tail near her face, making her fall backwards, hurting herself, and makes her flinch; Dawn's points decrease after that. "Now use Charm!" Glameow gazes at Buneary with sparkling eyes, making her nervous, and lowering her attack power.
"Buneary, use Double Kick!" said Dawn. Buneary leaps at Glameow and lands two solid kicks to her, dealing super effective damage, but not as much thanks to her attack power being lowered before; Zoey's points go down a bit.
"Glameow, use Double Team and Aerial Ace at the same time!" said Zoey. Glameow splits into multiple copies of herself and they all start zipping around Buneary, with the real one landing hits all over; Dawn's points go down dramatically due to Buneary taking damage, and Zoey using an impressive combination of moves.
"Buneary, wait for the copies to meet up and use Quick Attack!" said Dawn. Buneary moves quickly at a bunch of Glameows that were close together and tries to hit them, but none of them were the real one; Dawn's points go down due to a failed attack.
"Glameow, use..." Zoey started to say befoe the timer runs out.
"And time is up!" said Marian. "Let's see who the winner is." Everyone looks at Dawn and Zoey's point meters and see the clear difference between the coordinators' points. "And the winner of this match is Zoey!"
"Bogus, dudes." said Luna.
"That's too bad." said Sam.
"I hope Dawn'll be okay." said Lincoln.
Back on the battle arena, Dawn was returning her Buneary to her pokeball.
"Sorry, Buneary; I know you did your best." said Dawn. Zoey walks over to Dawn and holds her hand out to her.
"Good match." said Zoey. Dawn looks up at her before smiling and grabbing her hand to be helped to her feet.
"I'm gonna train harder and be ready for next time." said Dawn.
"I hope you are." said Zoey.
Later, in the backstage area, Dawn was done getting back into her normal clothes; when she heads to the lobby, Lincoln and the others were waiting for her.
"Sorry that you lost, Dawn." said Lincoln. "There's always the next contest."
"Don't give up, dudette." said Sam.
"I won't." said Dawn before she kisses Lincoln on the cheek, making him blush. "I'll just take that as a consolation prize." Stella frowns at her before wrapping her arms around Lincoln.
"I'll be sure to beat Zoey." said Stella.
"Just try your best, Stella." said Lincoln.
"I will." said Stella before she kisses Lincoln on the cheek.
Moments later, on the Battle Stage, Zoey and Stella were standing on opposite ends of it.
"Well, everyone; it's the final round of the Battle Stage of the Hearthome Pokemon Contest." said Marian. "It's Stella vs Zoey; whoever wins will leave with the Hearthome ribbon." Stella and Zoey each pull out a pokeball.
"Combusken, you're up!" said Stella, throwing Combusken's pokeball and releases her, followed by a burst of red flames.
"Let's go, Shellos!" said Zoey, throwing a pokeball and releasing a pink, sluglike Pokemon with a white underbelly, followed by pink bubbles. Lincoln points his pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Shellos, the Sea Slug Pokemon. It lives along bodies of water. Its body shape changed to suit its habitat." said Lincoln's pokedex.
"Okay, Combusken, use Aerial Ace!" said Stella. Combusken leaps towards Shellos while white streaks of light surrounds her body.
"Shellos, use Harden!" said Zoey. Shellos glows white and its body shines before Combusken rams into it, but not doing much damage due to Harden increasing Shellos' defense, but still causing Zoey's points to drop. "Now use Water Pulse!" A blue ball of water forms in front of Shellos and it launches it at Combusken, hitting her, dealing super effective damage, and causing Stella's points to drop; Combusken begins stumbling around.
"Oh man, Combusken's confused." said Lincoln.
"Is that bad?" asked Simon.
"When a Pokemon's confused, there's a chance that Pokemon attacks itself instead of its opponent." replied Sam.
"Combusken, Double Kick!" said Stella. Combusken fights through her confusion and kicks Shellos twice, causing Zoey to lose points.
"Shellos, Mud-Slap!" said Zoey. Shellos sprays a stream of mud out of her mouth and it hits Combusken, some lands on Combusken's eyes, dealing super effective damage, and causing Stella to lose points.
"Use Quick Attack!" said Stella. Combusken charges at Shellos with incredible speed, but misses, causing Stella to lose points due to an attack missing.
"Shellos, Body Slam!" said Zoey. Shellos jumps up and lands hard on Combusken, dealing damage, and causing Stella to lose more points; static surrounds Combusken and she begins twitching.
"Now Combusken's paralyzed." said Clyde. Stella was starting to look nervous.
"Calm down, Stella; stay focused!" shouts Lincoln. Stella looks at Lincoln and nods; she takes a deep breath.
"Okay, Combusken, use Scratch!" said Stella. Unfortunately, confusion gets the better of her and she scratches herself across the face, causing Stella to lose more points.
"Shellos, use Ancient Power!" said Zoey. As Shellos was surrounded by white energy, the buzzer goes off.
"Time's up!" said Marian. Stella and Zoey look up at the monitor to see their point meters. "And the winner of the Hearthome Pokemon Contest is Zoey!"
"We did it, Shellos!" cheered Zoey; Shellos cheers in response. Combusken drops to her knees with a sad expression; Stella walks over to her and pats her back.
"Don't worry, Combusken; we'll be ready for the next contest." said Stella. Combusken looks at Stella and nods; Stella looks at Zoey. "That was a good battle, Zoey."
"Thanks; looks like we're one and one after our battle at Jubilife City." said Zoey, making Stella nod before shaking Zoey's hand. Back at Royal Woods.
"Oh, it's too bad Stella lost." said Mr. Zhau.
"Don't worry; there's plenty of Pokemon Contests for her to compete in." said Mrs. Zhau.
At the Hearthome contest hall stage, Marian was holding a small box that contained the Hearthome ribbon in it to Zoey and Shellos.
"As proof of your win here, I present you with the Hearthome ribbon." said Marian. Zoey reaches into the box and pulls out the ribbon.
"Thanks, Marian." said Zoey. Lincoln and the rest of the group, along with everyone else in the audience applauded for Zoey.
"Are you going to be okay, Stella?" asked Lincoln.
"Yes, Lincoln; I'll have to practice harder for the next contest." replied Stella before kissing Lincoln on the nose.
Zoey has won the Hearthome Pokemon Contest and earned the Hearthome ribbon. Who will win the next contest as Lincoln's group's Sinnoh journey continues.
