Peach Creek was a rather small island but it made up for it in the many modern advancements it had that matched those of islands in the New World. Living on this island were three young boys who would soon find destiny had a higher calling for them...
"Run for it!"
Three young teen boys were screaming in terror as they ran away. Their leader was a short boy with jet-black hair and three spikes sticking out. He was wearing a blue headband on his head and was wearing a yellow sleeveless shirt with a vertical red striped line on his right side and a diagonal purple striped line on his waist. He also wore light blue pants with a chain wallet on his right hip and on his feet he wore plain white socks with red shoes.
"Eddy I told you Sarah would find out that you messed with her dolls!"
The second teen was wearing a solid red shirt but on his arms, he had white bandages on both his arms. He also wore dark purple shorts but they are held up by a belt with many tools in them. On his feet, he wore long red socks and blue shoes. He had golden blonde hair and wore a black ski cap on his head.
"No pain for Ed Double D!"
The third and final member of the three was sporting long ginger hair and was wearing a dark olive green jacket and under that jacket was a red and white striped shirt. He also wore baggy blue pants and on his feet were raggedy socks and black shoes.
"Quiet, both of you!" Eddy, the leader of the trio, snapped as they continued to run from whatever was chasing them. Due to Eddy being in the front, he was leading the other boys until he ran ahead for a bit. He stopped to look around until he spotted a cave and, wasting no time, he ran in.
"Eddy? Eddy!" Double-D called out in concerned, fearing the worst.
"Oh no...he has been taken by the Forest Mutants from the 3rd Dimension!" Ed cried.
Just when Double-D was about to say something to Ed they were both yanked away into the cave. It turned out to be Eddy, who was keeping his hands over his friend's mouths as he shushed them, signaling to be quiet.
"ED! IF YOU DON'T COME OUT HERE RIGHT NOW I'LL TELL MOM!"
The trio stayed as quiet as possible, shaking in terror for a good moment. Eddy then peeked out to see a small figure looking around before huffing and leaving. Sighing in relief, the three friends took a moment to breathe.
"Eddy! You know full well that Sarah would be very upset if you broke her dolls." Double-D admonished.
"Oh can it, Sockhead! It was just a stupid doll! She can get a new one." Eddy snapped.
To make a long story short, Eddy had been trying to come up with a new scam to make a quick Berri and, through a series of unfortunate events, one of the prized dolls of Ed's younger sister Sarah had been destroyed, which led to the ill-tempered child chasing after the trio.
"I swear we always end up on the other end of the island because of your mistakes"
"What was that?!"
As Eddy and Double-D began arguing, Ed was just lost in his own little world before noticing a shiny glow out of the corner of his eyes. Curious, the oafish boy moved to get a closer look.
"Look, guys! A shiny thing!"
Double-D and Eddy stopped their arguing to see what Ed was pointing at. Eddy then grinned as one thing came to mind whenever shiny things were mentioned.
"It must be treasure! Come on, fellas!"
The three boys then followed after the shine, which became brighter and brighter the closer they got to it. However, when they reached the end of the cave, they were shocked to find a giant skeleton wearing a collared buttoned shirt that was decorated with medals and insignia, some of which bear the initials "GF". It also wore a belt, pants, and boots, as well as earphones on its head and a feathery plume that went down its back. The most notable thing was that the skeleton also had a massive red scar that went down from the left side of its face to the side of its chest and upper arm.
"Good heavens, someone died in this cave!" Double-D gasped. "Judging by the decomposition, this poor soul must have been here for who knows how many years!"
"Yeah..." Eddy muttered. "Geez, we just wanted to find some treasure and instead found a grave..."
"Wait, he has a note!" Ed said as he went over and took a piece of paper off the skeleton's body before handing it to Double-D, who began to read it.
"To any who may find me, my name is Douglas Bullet. I lived and fought through many battles but it seems there was one fight I was always destined to lose; the battle with a disease that nobody could cure. I refused to go out on my own terms and challenged countless warriors on a barren island to find who could bring me down. Eventually, one mighty warrior managed to win against me. Years from now, my grave shall be buried and forgotten as the people build over this island, but whoever finds me, my power is yours to have...you just have to eat it first."
"Whoa, heavy stuff..." Eddy muttered. "But wait...didn't Dad say the island's founder was named Douglas the Architect?"
"Could this be the very same Douglas?" Double-D pondered as he put away the note. "What did he mean by eating his power?"
"Ooooh!"
Hearing Ed's sound of amazement, Eddy and Double-D turned to see an open treasure chest with three fruits neatly placed in a row. Judging by the shine, it seemed the treasure chest had been the one to make the light that led the boys here.
The first fruit was round and blue with a crooked stem. It was dotted with a variety of bumps in multiple defined shapes, ranging from circles to hexagons. Each bump has a noticeable spiral on it.
The second fruit was red and blue, resembling a capsule pill with swirls all over it. On its top was a green stem with two curls.
The third and final fruit was green, shaped like an apple, and the spiral pattern on it looked like one large spiral as if it was a black hole sucking in everything around it. The stem was also shaped like a hand.
"Eddy...I think I've read about these!" Double-D gasped. "From Dr. Vegapunk's encyclopedia! These are Devil Fruits!"
"Wait, you mean the fruits that give you superpowers but make it impossible to swim for the rest of your life?" Eddy asked before grinning. "Guess we're getting treasure after all!"
"Treasure of the Devil!" Ed cheered as he took one of the fruits and swallowed it whole.
"ED!" Double-D cried. "Don't you realize what you've done?!"
"Spicy..." Ed said, not liking the taste all that much.
"Come on, Sockhead! If we eat these Devil Fruits, we can finally get off this dinky little island and see the rest of the world!" Eddy grinned as he gave Double-D one of the two remaining Devil Fruits, the one shaped like a pill. "Didn't you say you always wanted to meet the legendary Dr. Vegapunk?"
"Well, yes, but-"
"Then eat up, buddy!"
Eddy then proudly bit into the Devil Fruit he picked, the blue one with bumps on it. However, he cringed in disgust at the taste but forced it down. Double-D sighed in defeat before biting into his fruit, almost gagging at the horrid taste.
"Ugh! I've never tasted something so bitter and vile in my life!"
"Well, that's that! Let's get out of here before anyone knows we're missing." Eddy said.
The Eds soon left the cave and headed back home. However, they found that things were strangely quiet, none of their neighbors were around and something felt very off. Slightly worried, they made their way to the Cul-De-Sac.
The Cul-De-Sac had a large water hole in the middle where ships would anchor in. Most of the buildings around the hole were mostly made of wood and had a couple of docks around them.
However, what shocked the boys was the large ship docked and the flag it bore; a Jolly Roger with a snarling lion head and crossbones.
"Pirates!" Double-D gasped. "Oh dear, someone needs to call the Marines!"
"Hmmm...it seems like the Captain missed a few."
The Eds turned around and gasped to see a large, well-built man, wielding a very large sword. His appearance strongly resembled that of a Native American. Before any of the boys could react, the man grabbed them and dragged them onto the ship, where they found the rest of their neighbors tied up.
"Found some stragglers, Captain."
The Captain of the ship, a giant brute of a man with dark skin and red hair in a lion-like mane, sneered as he approached the Eds, who shivered in fear.
"I am El Drago, Captain of the Eldoraggo Pirates. We are simply here for the treasure that has been hidden away for many years." The man said. "Simply allow us to plunder the treasure and we'll be on our merry way without incident."
"Um, apologies good sir, but I don't think we have any treasure worth noticing!" Double-D nervously said before El Drago snarled in his face, making the poor boy whimper.
"Don't tell me such lies, boy! I know the treasure is here! The treasure that was taken by the legendary Demon Heir, Douglas Bullet!"
The Eds' eyes all widened when they realized that El Drago was looking for whatever treasure Douglas had. However, from the looks of it, he seemed to be thinking of valuables and probably didn't think that the treasure was actually three Devil Fruits...that they had already eaten.
"Ah, seems like you know where it is. I can tell from the look in your eyes." El Drago smirked. "Now, be good little boys, and tell me where you found it. I might even be generous enough to split the take."
The Eds said nothing, none of them even sure what El Drago would do to them if they told him that the treasure was a bunch of Devil Fruits that had already been eaten. Not having the patience to wait for an answer, El Drago turned to his comrade.
"Golass, make an example out of one of their friends! That outta make them cough it up!"
The Native American-clad man, Golass, nodded as he raised his sword over one of the kids... who just so happened to be Ed's sister, Sarah.
"BABY SISTER!"
Sarah. who was paralyzed in fear, couldn't move out of the way but someone did. As Sarah closed her eyes, Ed leaped in front of her and took the blade for her. Everyone was horrified, especially Eddy and Double-D.
However, Ed didn't seem to be falling. In fact, Golass realized his sword was now stuck...and then he realized Ed had somehow grabbed his sword with his bare hand...which was turning into the same metal of the blade as it spread to his whole body.
"Cool! I have become the Absorbing Man!"
"A Devil Fruit?" Golass asked in shock before Ed remembered he tried to kill Sarah and glared at him, pulling his now metal fist back before punching the man in the face, sending him flying over the ship.
"Is that what Ed's Devil Fruit does?" Double-D asked before looking at his hands. "I wonder what mine can do..."
El Drago growled and then roared loudly, firing a massive blast of energy from his mouth. Eddy saw the beam heading for Double-D and pushed him out of the way, taking the brunt of the attack.
"Eddy!"
Double-D ran over to his friend, who was badly injured from the attack. Panicking and not knowing what to do, Double-D suddenly transformed his fingers into syringes, which filled with some kind of fluid. Unsure of what to do, he injected the syringes into Eddy, whose injuries began rapidly healing.
"Whoa! I don't know what you did, Sockhead, but I feel like I can take on the world!"
"How strange...it seems my Devil Fruit allows me to manipulate drugs and medicine!"
Deciding to try something else, Double-D concentrated and then formed chemicals that shaped into a pill, which he then ingested before feeling his strength increase.
"Oh, I feel it...I FEEL THE ADRENALINE, EDDY-BABY!"
Thanks to Double-D boosting his body's natural healing, Eddy was in tip-top shape, though he felt a bit sore from his body working overdrive. Still, he was determined to kick El Drago off his home.
"Alright, buddy! You want the treasure Douglas had?! YOU GOT IT!"
Feeling an instinctive urge pulling inside his soul, Eddy thrust his arms out and El Drago looked around to see various parts of his ship being torn apart and pulled toward Eddy, forming into a giant hammer that he seemed to be wielding with ease.
"Here's the pitch!"
El Drago couldn't react in time as Eddy slammed the hammer into his face, sending him crashing into the mast of his ship and capsizing the whole thing in a chain reaction. Acting quickly, The Eds led their friends off the ship as it sunk into the ocean.
"Dude...that was AWESOME." Kevin, The Eds' on-off rival, muttered in awe.
The Marines soon arrived and arrested El Drago and his crew. Feeling this was a wake-up call for all of them, The Eds had decided to set off on their own, sailing for adventure.
"This is destiny calling, boys! It's telling us to set out to sea and get rich!" Eddy grinned as the boys readied a small dinghy boat. "This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!"
"Eddy's right, Double-D. Just think of all the chickens in the world! Oh and the monsters! And the food! And the-"
Eddy placed his finger near Ed's mouth to shut him up.
"You get the point. Come on, don't be a sourpuss."
Double-D stood there for a moment before he turned around to the rest of the kids.
"Ahh don't sweat it Double-D, we'll hold down the fort," Kevin replied.
Sarah didn't care at first then looked at Ed for a brief moment then sighed and gave a small smile.
"I won't tell Mom...this time," Sarah said to which Ed smiled at her.
Double-D then sighed, admitting defeat as he began to board the boat.
"Oh fine. I might as well see to it that my dream of meeting Dr. Vegapunk comes to fruition."
"That's thinking with your gut, Sockhead!" Eddy laughed.
The Eds soon set sail on the open sea, waving their friends goodbye. They were unsure of where they were going to go first, but they'd do it together as a trio, like they always did.
"So I heard someone managed to turn in El Drago for his bounty," Ariala said as she, Nami, and Merone sunned themselves on the deck of the Going Merry.
"Wasn't that guy only worth 10,000,000 Berris?" Nami asked. "He can't have been that tough."
"Yeah, I think we could have taken him," Usopp said.
"Ahoy there!"
Hearing the voice, Luffy and Lithos looked over the deck to see a small dinghy boat with three boys sailing on it. Helping them on board, the leader of the trio spoke.
"Heard you were talking about El Drago getting his heinie handed to him! Well, you're looking at the heroes who took him down!"
"Who are you guys?" Ferros asked.
"Apologies, I'm Eddward but call me Double-D," Double-D said. "And these are my friends, Ed and Eddy."
"Nice to have you on board!" Luffy grinned. "Something tells me you guys are on an adventure! Well, so are we!"
"We're building up a crew to find the legendary One Piece, the treasure once held by Gold Roger," Lithos said.
"The One Piece?!" Eddy asked in excitement.
"Gold Roger?!" Ed cheered.
"Oh dear, it looks like you're stuck with us..." Double-D sighed apologetically. "Eddy dreams of finding all the greatest treasures and becoming the richest man in the world."
"And Ed is happy so long as he gets to see the world and go on adventures!" Eddy grinned. "And Double-D wants to meet Dr. Vegapunk!"
"Well, he is a genius and his research is an inspiration to many like-minded academics like myself."
"Sounds like you guys have big dreams...you should sail with us!" Luffy smiled. "But don't think you can just swipe the One Piece, that's the treasure I'm aiming for because I'm gonna be the King of the Pirates!"
"Long live the King!" Ed cheered as he got on one knee and saluted Luffy.
Hope you all liked the inclusion of Ed, Edd n Eddy! Yes, Eddy ate Douglas Bullet's Clank-Clank Fruit and he'll be using it for more than just making giant mechs and ships...though those will still be prominent uses.
In the next chapter, we look into Zoro's backstory and make our way to the Sea Restaurant, Baratie, where our favorite chivalrous hopelessly romantic cook is waiting!
