Transformers One: Siren Chapter 1
It's not an uncommon sight to see Orion Pax running from the Cybertronian Police Force.
And it's no mystery as people can easily guess Orion Pax's transgression and where he's running from.
The Archives.
As a miner bot, Orion Pax doesn't have the clearance necessary to enter the libraries. Unlike those with T-Cogs that do have the necessary authorization to enter there.
That still doesn't stop Orion from infiltrating them every single chance he gets whenever he's not working on a shift in the mines. Whether he does or not is irrelevant to Orion. He's on a personal mission to find the Matrix of Leadership to give to Sentinel Prime.
Still, it was a pretty close shave this time around. Two Police Bots nearly got him if not for his friend and fellow miners, D-16's timely intervention. Thanks to the distraction provided by D-16, Orion snuck into the mining cart he was lugging and hid underneath some equipment that was being brought down to the mines for usage.
The Police Bots didn't have a clue and were sent off on a completely different trail.
Orion stayed hidden until the two of them were on a train and the Police Bots were long gone.
Tapping the side of the mining cart, D-16 said "All right. All clear."
Orion instantly emerges from the pile of equipment he was hiding under.
"Okay, D-16, I may be a little dusty, but corroded? That is too far," said Orion, tumbling out of the mining cart.
"Let me guess. Chased out of the archives," said D-16.
Laughing, Orion said "Yeah, I had to jump out of a window this time. Almost died. That's wild."
"And digging through ancient data is worth dying for," scolded D-16 in incredulous reproach.
"Yes, it is," said Orion, brightly.
Groaning, D-16 said "I need a new best friend."
"If there are clues in our recorded history that can help locate the Matrix of Leadership, they're in the archives. Trust me," argued Orion.
"Sentinel Prime. The Sentinel Prime is up on the surface right now, risking his life for us in search of the Matrix," reminded D-16, firmly.
"That's what I'm doing," insisted Orion. "I'm trying to help him."
"Yeah. Okay," guffawed D-16, knowing the last thing Sentinel Prime needs is help from Orion's type of shenanigans.
"The sooner energon flows again, the sooner we won't have to mine for it," reasoned Orion, logically, frustrated. "Don't you want to choose your own path, do whatever you want?"
"We're miners. We mine. That's all," said D-16, resignedly.
"Oh, there's got to be something more I can do," said Orion. "I can feel it."
"Oh yeah? Like the time that you said you had a feeling you could transform without a cog," said D-16, sarcastically.
Lowering his voice in order not to draw attention to that embarrassing event, grimacing, Orion said "You said you were never going to mention that again."
"Took me three days to pry you open. Your feelings get you in trouble," warned D-16.
"Yeah. Yeah," said Orion, waving it off nonchalantly.
"Just trust in Sentinel Prime," said D-16.
"I do trust him," said Optimus. "Hey, if we did have cogs…"
"I'd transform into a shovel and beat you," said D-16.
"I don't like how fast you answered that," deadpanned Orion. "But listen, if you did beat me, I couldn't give you this awesome Megatronus Prime thing I have here. It's cool. I'll just give it to someone else. Maybe Siren will like it."
That certainly got D-16's attention.
"What Megatronus Prime thing," asked D-16, barely concealing his eagerness.
"Ah, it's nothing," said Orion, shrugging and pulling out the coveted insignia from behind his back. "It's just a mint condition Megatronus Prime decal, first edition."
D-16's eyes become huge. Orion doesn't think they can get any wider.
"What," gasped D-16.
"I mean, if you don't want it, I can just throw it away," said Orion, offhandedly.
"Throw it away! That's not funny. Let me see," demanded D-16, indignantly, reaching for it.
Holding it away from D-16, Orion said "I'll give it to you if you promise that you'll tell Siren how you feel about her."
That causes D-16 to freeze and aim a glare at Orion.
Siren is a femme bot that the two mechs met on the same day that they were first introduced when they began work in the mines. At the time, Siren was very timid and shy. She still is, but thanks to Orion and D-16 she's become more confident and outgoing than how she used to be. Siren is a small and slender femme with silver and blue paint coating that is the same color as the energon they mine for.
Not long after the three of them met it was as plain as day to Orion that his best friend was getting strong feelings for Siren. It's not difficult to discover why. Sweetness and innocence shone from her face and eyes and turned her voice into music even if she was not singing. Just took one look and D-16 immediately began to feel a powerful emotion. And he would take every opportunity he could get to push D-16 into admitting his feelings to her. If asked Orion won't deny he has developed serious feelings for Siren, too, but has put them aside in consideration for how much D-16 likes her.
It's an ongoing inner battle. D-16 has been hesitating on it for far too long and Orion's had enough.
There's no rivalry there, only genuine intent to see D-16 and Siren together happy.
Which is why he's not gonna let this go.
Realizing this, exhaling heavily in defeat, reaching for the sticker, D-16 said "Fine! I'll tell her soon. Now, will you please give it to me already?"
Smiling toothily, Orion said "Wait. Don't grab. You're going to crease it."
Orion places the sticker on D-16's shoulder in a proud position, smoothing it down so that it's not creased.
The delight and jubilation on D-16's face at the gift are beyond words.
That's how much Megatronus Prime meant to him.
Ecstatically, D-16 said "You know, Sentinel says Megatronus was…"
"…the strongest Prime to ever live," finished Orion, smirking good-naturedly. "I know, buddy." Orion's heard it plenty of times from D-16 before. "Looks good on you."
"Ah, it's really cool," said D-16, grinning broadly. "Thanks."
"Always got your back," said Orion.
Thumping fists with him, D-16 said "No matter what."
As it has always been with this duo since the day they met.
Down in the sub-level, Siren is already there waiting for them. She's staring at the specks of energon glittering the walls, imagining them to be stars one would see in the sky if they were on the surface. Siren's always been underground, so she's never been up there before. Only Sentinel and those in his elite fighting force are cleared to go up there.
Story of Siren's life.
Just like she can't go up to the surface to see the stars, Siren can't go up on stage to sing and perform like she's always wanted.
Instead, Siren is left to imagine what it would look like to do so and the only stage she has is in the miner's barracks or down in the mines. Singing only to herself like right now.
This signifies how much Siren wants something more for her life, for all of their lives than this.
No sooner does Siren stop singing does a small round of applause emerges from behind her along with two voices she'd recognize anywhere.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the future star of Iacon," said Orion.
Adding in his two cents, D-16 said "Is there no note she can hit? No song she can sing?"
Siren rolls her eyes and still gives them both a kiss on the cheek with a radiant smile on her face.
Somehow Siren misses the small blush that emerged on D-16 upon the action.
Noticing the brand-new sticker on his shoulder, Siren gasped "Is that a Megatronus insignia."
Viewing this as a chance to finally make some headway, arms crossed, puffing up his chest proudly, Orion said "Sure is. And a 1st edition. You have no idea what I had to go through to get it, too."
"It obviously wasn't too hazardous because you're standing right here in front of us," jabbed Siren.
A sly expression crossing his face, Orion said "So, what do you think? Looks good on D-16, doesn't it?"
Nodding, running a hand over the Megatronus insignia, Siren said "Definitely. Makes you look even more distinguished, D-16. It suits you."
If possible the blush on D-16's face darkened even more with Orion amused at his friend's expense. The look on D-16's face screams retribution.
"By the way, what kept you two? I was starting to wonder if you guys were going to make it for work. What kept you this time," said Siren, teasingly.
Nudging Orion in the shoulder, smugly, D-16 said "Orion here was on the run from the Police. Nearly got him this time."
"Not the Archives," said Siren, exasperatedly. "Orion, when are you going to stop going there?"
"When I find the Matrix of Leadership," said Orion, grinning. "D-16 is part of Sentinels guard, and you are on the stage."
"Orion," sighed Siren, sadly.
Despite all of Orion's talk and encouragement, Siren doubts she'll ever make it on the stage to sing before all of Iacon. She's just a lowly mining bot. Such privileges are reserved for those blessed with T-Cogs.
Siren's dream is just that. A dream that is destined to forever remain a dream.
It's a reality that constantly makes her spark ache.
Siren's passion for singing is the only light she has while working in these dark and gloomy mines.
Seeing the crestfallen cloud that's come over her demeanor, softly and sincerely, D-16 said "Hey, you will get on a stage one day. I promise."
The corners of Siren's lips upturned slightly in an appreciative smile yet still covered with doubt.
"Now come on, let's go. If we're late Elita-1 is going to tear us a new one like she always does," said Orion, hoisting a drill over his shoulder.
Elita-1 is a driven and no-nonsense femme who is the team leader of their mining unit.
Lifting his own, D-16 said "Elita-1 only gets like that when you're around and open your mouth. One of these days she's gonna punch you into next week."
Siren giggles as they rush to get to their unit.
No matter what these two never make things boring and thank Primus for the day she met them.
Well, most of the time when they're not getting into trouble and pulling her into it.
By the time the three of them reach their group a very irate Elita-1's patience is just about gone.
"Move it, you slackers! I have no intention of risking my promotion just because you can't tell time," she shouted, scowling.
"Yes, Elita-1," said the three of them in unison.
Activating their jetpacks along with everyone else they follow Elita-1 down into the mines for a hard day at work.
Authors Note:
What vehicular form do you guys think Siren should take once she gets a T-Cog?
The song Siren would've been singing here is This Wish from the movie Wish. Thought it suited Siren perfectly, coinciding with where they live and what her dreams are.
Who do you think she should eventually end with? Optimus or Megatron?
I hope you all like this one! I certainly did while writing it for your vast enjoyment! ;D
For those of you just starting out with my stuff there are other works on my profile that may catch your interest. I highly recommend you take a look as soon as the opportunity presents itself to you. Who knows, you may be pleasantly surprised by what you discover.
Stay safe everyone. Especially with all of these crazy natural disasters occurring a lot lately due to global warming and climate change everywhere for sure. I swear it's like they're getting worse and worse all the time and it's like officials are simply just ignoring it or pretending it doesn't exist entirely just to go on with their daily lives. Especially those in multi-million dollar companies that rely on certain elements of our planet that we rely on to naturally keep us safe instead of adapting and finding new safer ways to keep in business. There are so many options out there where they can adapt, but they just refuse to see it because all they care about is money. Climate change is altering so much faster than anyone can really keep track of.
So, in light of all this, it is important to live life to the fullest as much as anyone can.
I know I am. ;) See you guys next time.
