For two of the smartest people in the school (and easily first and second in their year), you would have thought Draco and Hermione would have planned for Hermione waking up in the Slytherin Dorm Room, silencing spells faded, Hermione in Draco's Slytherin jersey, wrapped around him, and he, her like a glove.
You would have been wrong.
No, instead they both awoke, thankful that at least the green hangings around Draco's bed were opaque, to the sounds of the boys of the Slytherin dorm waking up, going about their morning on a lazy Sunday, surrounding them.
Hermione would have gasped had Draco not clapped a quick hand over her mouth.
His werewolf reflexes were coming in handy.
Her eyes widened as he quick as a flash, placed a hand over her mouth, and kept her from saying anything, silencing spells long worn off by now. He was gentle and released her as she nodded her head.
Sure, the Slytherins (at least a few of them) knew about them, but many more didn't, and even Blaise, Theo and Pansy didn't quite know the extent of what they were in.
Even they didn't.
Because yes, there was a soul bond, and yes it was pulling them both down deeper and deeper into, but Hermione couldn't help but feel there was more to it than that, that it had evolved into something more.
Perhaps she was being a fool, a romantic, perhaps she just blushed when she thought of Draco Malfoy's lips on hers, she didn't know, but she knew what she felt had to go deeper than the bond, or was at least different, creeping towards her heart.
The question was; did Draco feel the same?
She felt a sudden urge to ask him, and then logically knew she couldn't, not as she heard boys rustling around outside the hangings, getting ready for their day and breakfast, grumbling, and groaning. She heard the spray of the shower in the adjoining bathroom, and someone who sounded like Goyle searching for his socks, and she turned her head to Malfoy to ask him what he thought they should do.
And found him close, astoundingly close.
Their noses brushed even, and she knew, as his eyes flickered gold, her hands were shaking too, that loopy feeling after spending a night together not quite upon them, no instead that was held off, as something else was creeping up upon them, creeping and making itself known.
Malfoys eyes flashed gold, her cheeks bloomed pink, and she realised what was creeping over them, like a heady smoke, scrambling their brains and keeping the loopy feeling at bay, for now, this was heavier, richer, this was threatening to consume her.
Lust.
She squirmed, her cheeks blushing pink, her eyes widening as she looked at Malfoy, with that golden-silver swirl surrounding him, his eyes flashing gold, in that moment to her, with his hair a platinum halo around his head, his nose brushing hers, his skin like porcelain and marble, he looked utterly perfect, and she was sure she couldn't imagine a more perfect sight.
A quote came to her mind from a summer read of hers…
'Everything is more beautiful because we're doomed. You will never be lovelier than you are now. We will never be here again'
She wasn't sure about the last part, but it was the first, about beauty, and being doomed, the fear of the soul bond, the fear of what she felt for Draco Malfoy who was meant to be her enemy, the heat of the room, the non verbal silencing spell Malfoy whipped through the air as they heard his classmates shuffling beyond the curtain, it was all of that, and the heavy, heavy lust she felt in the air, almost like a physical weight on her shoulders, that dictated her actions next.
This time she kissed him.
Her lips found his, and she mewled in pleasure that he didn't hesitate to respond.
Within seconds she was on her back, her hands were tangled in his blonde hair, and he was cupping her waist with one hand, his fingers biting into her hip, and then held her face in his over, his grasp so tender it could have made her cry.
Their kisses were firm, passionate, his teeth sunk into her bottom lip, her tongue flicked against his. She whined into him as he kissed down her neck, nipping at her pulse point that had her squirming madly against him, she retaliated by bringing him back up to her lips, kissing him with a fervour that had both of his hands at her waist, pressing her as close to him as could be.
They were lost in one another.
She was sure it could have gone on forever, she wanted it too, it felt right, not just good, not just like she wanted to be with Malfoy forever, or needed him, yes she felt all of those things, but that wasn't it, the main thing was just how right it felt, like this was where she was meant to be, like there was nowhere else that could be better for her.
A moan left her lips, and a groan Malfoys as they continued to kiss, losing themselves to the pleasure of it all, even as the sun rose in the sky, and the dormitory emptied, they didn't care, the sounds of Blaise commenting on his Potions homework, and Theo on his thoughts on Halloween were lost, as they were lost, in one another.
They pressed their bodies closer together, they held onto one another as though they were clinging to a life raft, all they knew were one another.
It could have, maybe would have gone on forever, if not for the slam of the dormitory door as the last of Malfoys housemates left, almost scaring them back into themselves, back into real life, and they sprung apart, eyes wide, hands shaking.
Malfoy's eyes flashed gold again before settling on silver, her eyes widened, and she shook as she pushed aside the hanging of Malfoy's bed to look at the time, it was just before 8, they weren't late, yet.
And yet, they could have been, would have been, had one of the Slytherins not closed the dormitory door with unnecessary force.
It almost felt like a continuation of their kisses before, like everything else were just pauses inbetween and this was where they belonged, like the perfection she'd felt before was meant to be continued.
It was even tricky for a moment not to dive back into Malfoys arms, not to surrender into that feeling, the feeling of being in just the perfect place, of not needing anything else or anyone, ever again.
She could see Malfoy felt it too, as she took a deep breath, forced herself to sit upright, the jersey with Malfoy stamped across the front rumpled, up her thigh even, when had Malfoy touched her there? She remembered his touch, her cheeks splashed pink, and she almost leaned in again, Malfoy flashed gold once more.
Somehow they kept a handle on it, as Malfoy dropped his forehead to hers, it was easier that way, lending the strength of one another, breathing to one another, it was a unique situation after all, others knew, but really they only had each other, and they had to rely on that.
And for a moment they did, Hermione allowed herself to need Malfoy, not just want him, and it made things feel a little easier, but a whole lot harder too.
Doomed.
An hour later they sat next to one another in Potions, he'd come in late, she'd kept the seat next to her free, and though several people gave her pitying glances, and several Slytherins glared at her, Slughorns voice had cut through the people quite baffled by the fact Hermione Granger and Draco Malfoy were civilly sat next to one another.
It just reminded her how few people knew, them, Harry, Ron, Ginny, Blaise, Theo, and Pansy, just 8 souls knew of their predicament or their feelings, whichever it was now, and no one else could.
This couldn't be public, maybe not ever, and she tried not to let that bother her.
But they were here now, she'd met Harry and Ron for breakfast (thankful they didn't question as she arrived at half past 8, though both shot Malfoy glares across the Hall, not that, that was unusual), and now sat in Potions, next to Malfoy, and something in her had eased the second he'd sat down.
Even sleeping together and kissing, and nearly consuming one another, the soul-bond reminded them it was there, no headaches or exhaustion considering their prolonged contact, but everything just felt easier when he was near.
They didn't talk, couldn't as sitting together was suspicious enough, being actually civil would ensure gossip for weeks, which neither of them needed right now.
Again, she felt a little twinge in her chest, that she felt this all-consuming thing for Malfoy, and yet it would never be a normal relationship, how could it?
"Today you'll be working together on Everlasting Elixirs" Professor Slughorn said with a smile, waved his wand to the board, "Pages 18-24 in your books, ingredients in the store room, work together on this, it will be a two stage process as the Potion needs to sit for three days, we will resume in Fridays class" He said with a nod, and then the students got to work.
Draco and Hermione worked in silence, but her hand would brush his, his knee against hers, they worked efficiently together, Draco did the chopping for she hated to admit his hands were much more precise than hers, his long fingers gripping the silver knife, her cheeks heating as she watched him work. She stirred and added ingredients, consulting the book each time, hers wouldn't be the best and she felt annoyed Harry's would be, paired with Ron thanks to his stolen potions book, but it didn't annoy her as it did before, she had far bigger worries now.
By the end of class the niggle at the back of her head had vanished, and she felt at ease once again. She and Malfoy didn't speak a word, but they shared one last brush of the knee before they split, to join their respective groups, though she'd see him again in Herbology.
She was counting on it.
And glad she had, they could hardly pair for a second time, but after the class, she managed to hang back to talk to Professor Sprout (and forcibly sent Harry and Ron on), for she knew, somehow she knew Malfoy had hung back too, had hidden away not to cause suspicion, and she felt a shiver as she left the greenhouse, and he appeared from behind it.
How had she known he'd stay – a good guess? Was she getting to know him together? Or was the bond linking them ever closer?
She asked, and she shrugged.
"I don't know" He said with a frown, and she managed a smile at that, neither of them liked those words, "But the books from Pansy, Theo and Blaise will arrive end of week, we'll have to hold off reading them until the next though"
Hermione could only nod, biting down on her lip, it was dry from where Malfoy had bitten it earlier, and despite the Scottish Winter cold her cheeks heated, and Malfoy's gaze flashed.
Was this permanent? This longing for him that felt like a fire lighting her up? She had no idea, but she knew if anything it was just growing stronger.
Though she sobered, as he spoke.
"I'll transform Friday night" He said quietly, "And then recover all weekend"
"I'll be with you" She said immediately, before she could think about it, but she realised, to her comfort, if she had, her answer would remain the same.
"You can't be with me for the transformation" He said, and took her hands in his then, even gloved she let out a little sigh, ignored his smirk, touching him truly made everything better, even this conversation that made her feel almost more anxious than anything, "Even with wolfsbane I might go feral, but we don't know the effect my turning will have on you, on the bond"
She nodded, they had no clue, would she be in pain with him? Would she want to go to him? No idea at all.
"I'll have to hide out in the library" She said, "Silencing charms and books will be my companion, I'll sneak back in when Madam Prince leaves"
"Granger, that breaks at least ten school rules" Malfoy teased and she grinned, clutching his hands, it was nice, sometimes to act like a normal couple, even if they weren't either, normal or a couple.
"I'll hide there and we'll just have to see" She said with a frown, "Where do you usually go in the morning when you wake up?" She asked.
"I usually go to the Prefects Bathroom, Pansy makes sure its free and I hide in there, the bath helps me recover" He said with a shrug, and she nodded, the pain she couldn't imagine, and in truth she hoped she didn't have to.
"Then tell Pansy no need, I'll keep it clear and meet you there" She said, and he nodded, a fire in his gaze again, though she knew he'd be in no condition to ravage her in the bath, her cheeks were still pink at the thought of it. "And we can see how it went"
He nodded, and Hermione did too, there was nothing more they could do to prepare, and it killed her that she couldn't plan it all out, micromanage and perfect it, next time she would, she promised herself, as she held Malfoy's hands, next time when she knew what they were dealing with she'd make sure it was as easy for Malfoy as it could be, next time she'd make sure of it.
But for now, they blundered into the unknown together, just three days out from the transformation, clutching hands behind the Herbology greenhouses, neither really sure what would happen, but together.
draco and hermione can not tell if they are just horny teenagers, or the soul bond is making them cray cray lol, who knows?
