A/N: I did one or two Christmas chapters in the original version of this story. This time, I'm doing two Christmas chapters and a New Year's Eve chapter. And I might do a chapter or two before the equivalent chapter to "All Valley." Even though I'm just keeping Johnny meeting the All-Valley board and Miguel going to Golf 'N' Stuff with Sam.
Disclaimer: I don't own the Karate Kid movies, Cobra Kai or anything else that I might reference.
Skeleton Bro Christmas
Today was Christmas Eve.
There wasn't any training on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. But there was going to be training on every other day of Christmas break. Sensei had said something about not wanting them to lose a step. Or something to that effect, anyway.
Jason didn't feel like cooking breakfast, so he orders in.
He makes sure to tip the delivery guy after he pays for his food.
Jason takes the bag of food to the dining table before opening it.
He takes a container out of the bag and opens it after taking napkins out of it.
Inside that container are three soft-shell pulled beef tacos with salsa.
Jason gingerly picks up one of the tacos and takes a bite.
He makes sure not to make a mess while he eats it.
It doesn't take too long for him to finish eating the first taco.
He repeats the process with the other two tacos, taking the time to savour each bite.
Jason then wipes his hands with the napkins and goes to throw out the empty bag, container and napkins.
He takes a can of Coke from the fridge afterwards and sits down on the sofa in the living room.
Jason turns on the TV and starts flicking through the different channels.
He eventually stops on a Christmas movie.
Jason opens the can of Coke and takes a few sips.
There are texts from different Cobra Kai students, Demetri and Sam wishing him a Merry Christmas or a Happy Holidays.
He responds to the different texts while half watching the movie.
Everybody was just hanging out with their respective families and enjoying the holidays. But they made sure to include Jason as much as they could. Which was nice.
Jason drinks his soda while alternating between watching the movie and texting.
He finishes his soda and goes to throw out the empty can.
Jason sits back down and continues watching the movie.
There's a lot of time between now and when he will drive over to Miguel's apartment.
He hears a knock on the door followed by the doorbell ringing.
Jason turns off the TV and walks over to the door, making sure not to step over his shoes and black boots.
He opens the door and is surprised to see Robby standing in front of him.
"I guess you don't really have anybody to spend Christmas with, either." Robby says.
Jason looks a bit confused. "I thought you had family? And that you live with your mom?"
"My mom's with a friend. And my dad isn't really around. So, I don't really have anybody to spend the holidays with. Especially not today." Robby quickly replies.
Jason takes a step back and lets Robby walk into the house. "Fine. I guess we can hang out. A friend of Claire's is a friend of mine, after all."
He watches as Robby closes the door behind him.
They walk into the living room.
"Nice house." Robby looks around the house.
Jason smiles. "Thanks. You want a soda or something?"
"Sure." Robby shrugs.
Jason goes into the kitchen and takes two Cokes from the fridge.
He hands one to Robby before opening his soda. "Do you usually spend the holidays by yourself?"
"I spent it with friends the last year or two. But that's changed now, obviously." Robby answers.
Jason takes a sip of his soda. "So, what happened?"
"They wanted me to help them rob LaRusso Auto. But I bailed. I got into a fight with them and that basically ended our friendship. You might know who they are." Robby says.
Jason drinks his soda in relative silence before speaking again. "Trey and Cruz?"
"Yeah. How do you know them?" Robby wonders.
Jason finishes his soda. "Me and some of the people who were in group homes with me got into a bad crowd. And that's we knew of Trey and Cruz. But we didn't really have any respect for them. They were just wannabe criminals."
"And you and your friends were real criminals?" Robby asks.
Jason scratches his head. "Kind of. We've all been to juvie at least once. In fact, that's how I ended up with this house."
"Is that supposed to be a joke? Because I don't think that was very funny." Robby looks confused.
Jason shakes his head. "It wasn't a joke. I got this house because of this deal I made with a wealthy family friend."
"So, you have a sugar daddy?" Robby asks.
Jason shakes his head. "Nope."
"What would you call it, then?" Robby wonders aloud.
Jason shrugs. "I'm not sure. He owes my grandfather a debt for saving his life in Vietnam. And, it's not really my place to ask questions."
"Oh. Okay." Robby says.
Jason smiles. "Don't worry about it."
"I won't." Robby answers.
Robby finishes his soda.
Jason takes the empty can and goes to get rid of both cans.
He walks back into the living room.
Robby is sitting down on one of the sofas in the living room.
Jason sits down as well. "So, do you want me to order food in or do you want to go out for lunch? I've got to get some stuff anyway, so it wouldn't be an issue."
"I haven't had anything to eat yet. So, lunch sounds great." Robby replies.
Jason grins. "Great. I'll just put on my shoes."
He walks over to where he put his shoes and puts his shoes on before tying the laces.
Jason has his keys with him as well as his wallet and phone.
He opens the door and walks out before Robby does.
Jason closes the door behind him and makes sure that it's locked.
"So, this is your car, right?" Robby looks at the Dodge Viper.
Jason nods. "Yeah."
"It's a pretty nice car." Robby says.
Jason unlocks the Dodge Viper and gets into the driver's seat. "Thanks."
"You're welcome." Robby gets into the passenger's seat.
They put their seatbelts on before Jason starts the car.
Jason reverses the Dodge Viper out of the driveway and drives off.
He turns on the radio because he's not sure if Robby wants to talk while he drives or not.
And it probably would make the drive go by faster.
….
Jason parks the Dodge Viper and gets out of the car. They've parked near an Applebee's. Which is fairly convenient.
He watches as Robby gets out of the car on the other side.
Jason locks the door.
They walk over to Applebee's and open the door.
Jason walks in first and Robby follows closely behind him.
It's relatively busy even though it's the day before Christmas.
"Are you two looking for a table? You came just before things were starting to get busy. If you'll just follow me, please." A waiter notices them and walks over to them.
Jason and Robby look at each other and nod. "Sure."
They follow the waiter to an empty table and sit down.
The waiter puts menus in front of them.
"So, how long have you been doing karate?" Robby asks.
Jason looks through the menu. "Around the end of the summer. More or less. What about you?"
"I started doing karate almost two months ago. More specifically, I'd been doing karate for a few weeks before your party." Robby answers.
Jason has another look through the menu. "Cool. I wasn't quite sure."
"Mr LaRusso is a pretty good teacher. Even if his methods are a bit unusual." Robby says.
Jason nods. "Yeah. My Sensei's methods are pretty unusual, as well. He gave Miguel and I black belts even though it normally takes at least a year to get a black belt. But I guess we earned them after the cafeteria fight."
"I saw the video. You and Miguel did a pretty good job fighting those guys." Robby remarks.
Jason grins. "Thanks? I think a lot of people in the Valley saw the video of the cafeteria fight. Particularly people our age."
"Are you two ready to order?" The waiter who had shown them to their table had reappeared.
Jason looks at Robby and they both nod. "Sure."
They order food and drinks.
The waiter takes the menus and walks away.
"Do you have any plans for the holidays? I'm sure that you probably have plans, and I can understand that you'd be a bit secretive about them." Robby asks, following up the question with a statement.
Jason nods. "Yeah. I'm having dinner with Miguel and his family, spending the day with Claire and her family tomorrow and I'll be spending New Year's Eve with friends. Including Miguel. I'm not really sure what I'll do between Christmas and New Year's, but I'll think of something. And I've got training for the rest of the holidays, too."
"What exactly are you training for?" Robby wonders aloud.
Jason scratches his head. "Tournaments, I guess? I don't think Sensei really talked about tournaments or anything like that. Even though I know of at least one tournament."
"Like the All-Valley?" Robby suggests.
Jason nods. "Yeah. I'm not entirely sure if Cobra Kai can compete, but I think we probably could. I was a spectator at this year's All-Valley, and that was a pretty cool experience. Competing would be on a different level, though."
"Yeah. It would be a pretty cool experience. I'll have to ask Mr LaRusso about it. But he would definitely want me to compete." Robby replies.
Jason nods. "Hopefully he'll let you compete."
"I'm sure he will." Robby remarks.
A waitress brought over glasses filled with soda, Coke, and ice with lemon wedges for garnish and straws on a tray.
They watch as the waitress puts a glass in front of Robby before putting the other glass in front of Jason.
There's no danger of them spilling or knocking the glasses over.
Jason sits back in his chair slightly. "I'm going to be buying some stuff to bring over to Miguel and his family. But it's mostly going to be chocolates and stuff like that. If you don't mind tagging along, I mean."
"I don't mind. It'll give me an excuse not to go home for another hour or so." Robby leans forward in his chair a little.
Jason understands. "That makes sense. And I appreciate the honesty."
"Don't mention it." Robby says.
Jason grins. "Cool."
"You did say that you were spending tomorrow with Claire, right?" Robby changes the subject.
Jason nods. "Yeah."
"She speaks very highly of you. And, I'm happy that she's found somebody. I mean, I wasn't worried about her or anything, but she wasn't exactly popular." Robby continues.
Jason smiles. "I kind of forgot that you and Claire are pretty close."
"Her dad happens to be my godfather. And my dad is her godfather. We've known each other since we were little, and she's kind of like family. In fact, she may as well be family." Robby adds.
Jason is about to say something when a waitress shows up with a sharing portion of nachos.
They watch as she places the plate on the table and tells them that their food is on the way before she walks away.
He reaches over and grabs some nachos. "It's cool that you and Claire know each other. And, I'm glad that you approve of our relationship. Even if her parents already do."
"Thanks." Robby takes some nachos as well.
They eat and talk until the plate is empty.
A different waitress comes by to take the plate and ask them how things were so far.
They both said that they were enjoying things.
Jason took a sip of his Coke. "Listen, if you need a place to crash during the holidays, I've got two spare rooms in my house."
"I'll find something. But thanks for the generous offer." Robby replies.
Jason understands. "You're welcome. Hopefully you do manage to find somewhere to crash during the holidays."
Robby takes a sip of his soda in silence.
He doesn't say anything for a couple of minutes.
"I always manage to find something." Robby speaks up again.
It doesn't take too long for their food to arrive.
They eat in relative silence.
A waitress comes to take away their empty plates when they're finished and asks them if they want to order dessert.
Jason looks at Robby. "You feel like dessert?"
"Yeah. I'll go with the brownie sundae." Robby answers.
Jason smiles. "I'll go with the brownie sundae, too."
The waitress nods and takes the menus.
They finish their sodas while they wait for their desserts.
"I don't think I've said it before, but Happy Holidays. I hope you have a good time with Claire's family tomorrow, and that you enjoy the rest of the break." Robby says.
Jason smiles. "Thanks. Happy Holidays, by the way."
They keep talking until their desserts arrive.
Jason pays for their meals when they've finished eating.
They leave the restaurant after thanking the waitress.
It's a relatively short walk back to the Dodge Viper.
Jason unlocks the car and gets into the driver's seat.
Robby gets into the passenger's seat.
Jason starts the car and drives off.
He was going to find a supermarket or somewhere he could buy chocolates or something like that.
There was still time before he had to go to Miguel's apartment.
….
Jason found somewhere he could buy chocolates and settled on buying a box of Lindt chocolates to bring to Miguel's apartment.
And he bought some stuff for Claire's family that he'd bring to her house tomorrow.
He dropped Robby off in North Hills before driving home and putting the stuff he got Claire's family in the house before driving to Reseda. And getting gas.
Jason parked the Dodge Viper near Miguel's apartment.
He took the box of chocolates with him when he got out of the car and locked it.
Jason walks up to the door of Miguel's apartment and knocks on it.
It doesn't take long for the door to open.
"Hello, Jason. It's good to see you. Come on in. Miguel's talking to Sam, and he's currently in his room." Carmen looks out the door.
Jason hands her the box of chocolates. "Thanks."
Carmen takes a step back so Jason can walk into the apartment.
Jason closes the door behind him.
Carmen walks into the kitchen.
Rosa sees him and gives him a smile and a friendly wave, which he returns.
Jason walks to Miguel's room.
The door is partly open, so Jason opens the door and walks in.
Miguel is fully dressed and he's wearing a green and red striped with little skeletons on it.
There is a bag near his bed, but Jason isn't sure what's in it.
Miguel notices that Jason is in the room with him and ends his conversation with Sam. Even though it was ending already.
"Hey! Jason! It's so good to see you!" Miguel gives Jason a high five and a bro hug.
Jason returns both gestures.
He looks at the bag on the floor. "So, what's in the bag?"
"Oh! It's a sweater that matches my sweater. There's a place where you can have sweaters made and that's how I got it." Miguel answers.
Jason takes the bag and takes out a sweater. It's a green and red striped sweater with little skeletons on it.
He puts the sweater on. "Thanks! You even got the right size and everything! I'm sorry I didn't get you anything."
"You're welcome. By the way, don't worry about not getting me a gift or anything. I'm sure that you'll be able to buy something between Christmas and New Year's or afterwards." Miguel gives Jason a reassuring pat on the back.
Jason grins. "Awesome. So, how's Sam? You were talking to her before I walked in."
"Sam's good. Family friends of hers are staying in the Valley for the holidays, and they're going to be at her house pretty much all day tomorrow. So, she's looking forward to seeing them. We might make plans to meet up between tomorrow and New Year's, but we might just meet up after New Year's. I guess we'll just have to see how things go." Miguel replies.
Jason nods. "That makes sense. I think Claire will be hanging out with Aisha on New Year's if she's not spending it with her family. And I'll be at Claire's house from lunch onwards tomorrow. Well, that's the plan, anyway."
"Cool. I'll be spending Christmas with Mom and Yaya. And Sensei." Miguel says.
Jason looks a little confused. "I thought Sensei was spending Christmas with different people? Unless he's only seeing one of his friends today."
"He's spending Christmas with us. Which makes sense because he's dating Mom." Miguel answers.
Jason understands. "Oh. They weren't really seeing anybody before, so that makes sense. And the fact that they're in such close proximity to each other definitely helped things along too. I'm guessing."
"I'd say that's pretty accurate." Miguel remarks.
Jason nods. "Yeah."
"You mind if I take a selfie of us? It'd be a shame not to show our sweaters off." Miguel changes the subject.
Jason agrees. "Sure."
They strike a pose while Miguel takes a selfie or two.
"I'll put those up on my Instagram." Miguel says.
Jason smiles. "Fantastic."
Miguel uploads the selfies onto his Instagram and even has a caption referring to them as Skeleton Bros.
"I think Mom and Yaya might have started making dinner. And I'm not sure if they want us to help, because they're fairly territorial when they're in the kitchen." Miguel remarks.
Jason runs a hand through his hair. "I think you might have mentioned that."
"Yeah. Mom will tell us when dinner's ready. So, you don't have to worry about that." Miguel has a smile on his face.
Jason leans against the door in Miguel's room. "Great."
"I think Sensei might be back from wherever he was today. Or, he'll be back later." Miguel looks outside of his room.
Jason tilts his head to one side. "I didn't see Sensei's car when I parked near your apartment. Maybe he'll back by now. I don't think that he'll be gone for that long unless it's something important."
"Want to go and see if Sensei's back yet? We've got time before dinner." Miguel suggests.
Jason agrees with this situation. "Sure."
They leave Miguel's room after Miguel gets a key to the apartment and walk to the living room of the apartment past the kitchen.
Miguel tells Carmen and Rosa where they're going.
Jason watches as Miguel opens the door of the apartment and steps out before following him outside.
Miguel closes the door after Jason steps outside. They walk over to Sensei's apartment to see if his car is outside.
Sensei's Pontiac Firebird is still nowhere to be seen.
"I guess he's probably having dinner with a friend or something." Miguel says.
Jason looks in the direction of Sensei's apartment. "Yeah."
"Should we head back in?" Miguel asks.
Jason nods. "Sure."
They walk back to Miguel's apartment.
Miguel uses the key to open the door and get back into the apartment.
He puts the key in his pocket and closes the door after Jason steps back inside.
"Will you two set the table? We've only just started cooking, but the help would be much appreciated." Carmen calls out.
Jason and Miguel look at each other and nod. "Sure."
They get four plates and put them around the table before getting cutlery and placing them beside each plate.
Finally, they get glasses and place them behind the plates.
Jason and Miguel walk back to Miguel's room when they've finished setting the table.
They hang out and talk until Carmen tells them that dinner is ready.
Which was a good thing, because they were both hungry.
….
Dinner was very good, and there was even enough for seconds.
Jason and Miguel cleared away the plates, cutlery and glasses before cleaning them and putting them in the dishwasher.
The box of chocolates that Jason had brought with him had been opened.
Carmen and Rosa had taken a few before Jason and Miguel did.
"Thank you for being such a good friend to Miggy. It really means a lot. And, you are welcome here any time." Carmen says.
Jason looks slightly embarrassed. "Thanks?"
"You brought something, so it's only fair that we give you something in return." Rosa speaks up.
Jason scratches his head. "You really don't have to. It's fine."
"I insist. I'll just go and get your gift now." Rosa replies.
Rosa goes to get Jason's gift.
She comes back carrying a bag.
Jason, Miguel and Carmen all look at the bag.
It doesn't take long for Jason to ask the question. "So, what's in the bag?"
"Don't worry. It's something that you're going to like." Rosa replies.
She hands the bag to Jason.
Jason looks into the bag and pulls out a bottle of Kraken rum.
He puts the bottle back in the bag. "Thanks for the gift. I really appreciate it."
"You're welcome. Hopefully you enjoy your gift." Rosa replies.
Jason smiles. "I will. You don't have to worry about me."
"Good." Rosa takes a chocolate out of the box and eats it.
Jason spends an hour or two talking to Miguel, Carmen and Rosa before he eventually leaves.
He opens the door to Miguel's apartment and steps out before closing it, making sure to take the bag containing the bottle of Kraken rum with him.
He sees that Sensei's Pontiac Firebird is parked near his apartment.
Jason unlocks his car and puts the bag containing the bottle of Kraken rum in the backseat.
He gets into the driver's seat and puts the key in the ignition before putting his seatbelt on and driving off.
