A/N: The countdown to the All-Valley begins! I didn't really care for "Molting as an episode, so I'll be changing some parts of it to fit the next two chapters. If that's okay with the people who are reading and/or reviewing.
Disclaimer: I don't own the Karate Kid movies, Cobra Kai or anything else that I might reference.
Junkyard Dogs
Jason had a good night's sleep and woke up relatively early.
He changes out of his pyjamas into boxer shorts, black sweatpants and a dark blue t-shirt along with black socks.
Jason checks his phone and sees a text from Miguel, which he replies to.
He grabs his wallet and keys in addition to his phone before walking downstairs.
Jason barely makes it down the stairs when he hears loud knocking and the doorbell ringing.
He opens the door and sees Miguel and Sensei standing in front of him.
"Good morning, Kreese! I hope you had a good night's sleep because today's going to be the first day of training for the All-Valley!" Sensei exclaims.
Jason understands. "So, where are we going to train today?"
"The junkyard you trained at during your first suspension. I've sent the word out to the other Cobra Kai students. Or, Miguel has, at least." Sensei replies.
Jason smiles. "Cool. I guess you need me and Miguel to help you set up the obstacle course, right?"
"Exactly. Or, some of it, at least." Sensei says.
Jason nods. "Yeah."
"Let's go." Sensei walks back to the Pontiac Firebird before getting into it and putting on his seatbelt.
Jason watches as Miguel walks back to the Pontiac Firebird and gets in the passenger's seat.
Sensei starts reversing out of Jason's driveway while Miguel is putting on his seatbelt.
Jason waits until the Pontiac Firebird is a certain distance away before he closes the door of his house.
He walks to the Dodge Viper and unlocks it before getting in and putting on his seatbelt.
Jason reverses out of his driveway and follows Sensei's Pontiac Firebird.
He kind of has an idea of what Sensei has planned for their training.
And, he knew that the others weren't going to expect it.
Which would make things very interesting.
….
Miguel and Jason started to set up an obstacle course at the junkyard before the other Cobra Kai students arrived and helped them out.
Sensei watches as they set up the obstacle course.
They stand in front of a scrapped car.
Sensei climbs up onto the car and drinks a beer.
"You all had to train very hard to get to this point. And you think you're ready for the All-Valley? Right?" Sensei asks.
Everybody yells out the same response. "Yes, Sensei!"
"You're wrong! You're not ready for the All Valley! Not yet! But I'm going to make you ready!" Sensei yells.
The students all respond. "Yes, Sensei!"
"Are you losers?" Sensei asks.
The students all answer. "No, Sensei!"
"Are you nerds?" Sensei continues.
Everybody answers the question. "No, Sensei!"
"Are you sure?" Sensei asks.
The Cobra Kai students all shout in unison. "Yes, Sensei!"
"Good. It's time to get started! You're going to run a few laps around the junkyard before you do the obstacle course. Get to it!" Sensei grabs another beer.
Jason and Miguel lead the rest of the Cobra Kai students in running laps around the junkyard before they take on the obstacle course.
Sensei watches them and yells out words of encouragement, occasionally pausing to drink a beer.
It doesn't take them too long to run laps around the junkyard.
They pause for a water break before moving on to the obstacle course.
The first part of the obstacle course is the tires. They have to do eight rounds of the tires before moving on.
Sensei continues shouting words of encouragement. "Let's go! Move those feet!"
They finish going through the tires without falling over.
The next part of the obstacle course is a balance beam over a dumpster filled with metal and glass.
"Try not to fall over!" Sensei exclaims.
Jason is the first person to cross the balance beam.
The rest of the group manage to make it across the balance beam without falling, even though Leonard and Hawk kind of wavered.
They move on to the next part of the obstacle course is a rope pulling exercise.
There are ropes set up at different points.
They do rope pulling exercises before taking a break.
Sensei looks happy. "Good work, guys. But you've still got some work left to do today."
"What work is that?" Bert asks.
Sensei smiles. "I'm glad you asked. Your enemies are all around you. Time to destroy them."
He hands them tools and safety goggles.
They go around the junkyard smashing cars.
Jason uses a rusted pickaxe to smash in car windows.
Miguel and Hawk throw a wooden beam out of a window and high five as it smashes a car.
Aisha uses a baseball bat to smash in a car window.
Claire smashes in a car window using a sledgehammer.
Everybody goes around beating up old cars.
When they're finished, they hand the tools back to Sensei.
They wait for their next instructions.
"Are you hungry?" Sensei asks.
The group all nod. "Yes, Sensei!"
Sensei hands them all beef jerky, which they eat.
"Good. Because so are they." Sensei takes out a dog whistle and blows it.
They all look around and hear the sound of barking dogs.
Jason looks stunned. "How did you get dogs?!""
"I don't think we have time to worry about that!" Claire exclaims.
They split up and run in different directions.
Jason climbs up onto a truck.
He sees a dog chasing Bert, so he grabs Bert and pulls him up onto the truck.
Everything is going well they hear a scream.
The dogs have dispersed.
Hawk got bitten by one of the dogs, but the wound is not dirty, infected or bleeding.
Jason looks at Hawk. "I'll take you to the hospital."
"Good idea, Kreese. You all did great work today. But there's a way to go. So, you're dismissed." Sensei says.
Jason and Hawk quickly walked over to where Jason parked his Dodge Viper.
He unlocks the car and watches as Hawk gets in the passenger's seat.
Jason gets into the driver's seat.
They both put on their seatbelts before Jason drives off.
It shouldn't take too long for them to get to West Valley General.
….
Jason parks the Dodge Viper outside of West Valley General and walks in with Hawk.
They manage to find a doctor and explain the situation to him.
Hawk gets rabies shots before he calls his mom.
Reuben and Beth arrive at the hospital about twenty to thirty minutes later.
Beth checks on Hawk while Reuben talks to Jason.
"So, what happened?" Reuben asks.
Jason scratches his head. "He got bit by a dog. And he had to get rabies shots. But he's fine."
"A dog? That would probably explain why he's in the hospital. But I don't know how Eli would get into a contact with a dog." Reuben says.
Jason nods. "Yeah."
"Well, what matters is that he's safe. And that he has good friends like you." Reuben answers.
Jason is about to say something when Hawk walks out with Beth.
Hawk says something before he leaves with his parents. "Thanks for driving me here. And, I'll see you on Monday."
"See you on Monday. Don't run into anymore dogs on the way home." Jason teases.
Hawk nods. "See you on Monday. And I won't run into anymore dogs on the way home.
Jason watches as Hawk and his parents leave the hospital before he makes an exit.
Today was only the beginning of the preparations for the All-Valley.
….
Miguel showers and changes clothes after Sensei brings him back to his apartment.
He didn't want to have lunch with Sam wearing dirty clothes.
Miguel was waiting at the apartment for Sam.
He told Mom and Yaya that he was going to be having lunch with Sam. But he wasn't sure if he would have lunch with Sam at her house or if she would bring them somewhere.
Miguel heard a knock on the door and went to open it.
He sees Sam standing outside the apartment.
Her car is parked relatively close by.
"Hey, Miguel! You ready to get lunch?" Sam asks.
Miguel nods. "Yeah. I could eat. Today has been pretty crazy. Because today was the first real day of training for the All-Valley."
"Oh. Well, we could have lunch at my house if you want? Or we could go somewhere else?" Sam suggests.
Miguel thinks about it. "I'll have lunch at your house. If that's okay with you and your parents."
"I think it'll be okay. Just let me call them." Sam says.
Miguel watches as Sam calls her parents.
The conversation doesn't take that long.
Miguel looks at Sam. "So, we're having lunch with your family?"
"Yeah. Let's go." Sam answers.
Miguel steps outside and closes the door behind him.
They walk over to Sam's car.
Miguel gets into the passenger's seat while Sam gets into the driver's seat.
It won't take them long to get to Sam's house.
Which is definitely a plus.
Especially after the day Miguel has had.
….
Sam parks her car in the driveway of the LaRusso house.
Miguel watches as she exits the car before he gets out as well.
He follows Sam to the door of the LaRusso house and watches as she rings the doorbell.
It doesn't take long for someone to open the door.
"Sam! And Miguel! We thought you were going to be going somewhere else for lunch today." Amanda says.
Sam shrugs. "Well, we've kind of changed our minds."
"Alright. Well, come on in." Amanda takes a step back and lets Sam and Miguel take steps into the house.
Sam closes the door behind them.
They follow Amanda through the house.
Miguel looks at Sam and Amanda. "So, is Mr LaRusso inside?"
"I think he's in the kitchen." Amanda replies.
Miguel and Sam sit down at the dining table while Amanda walks into the kitchen.
Miguel looks over at Sam. "So, how is your dad taking Cobra Kai being allowed to compete in the All-Valley again?"
"He was a bit angry, but that's probably to be expected. I think he might be feeling differently about it today." Sam replies.
Miguel nods. "Oh. Hopefully he does feel differently about it."
Sam is about say something else before Daniel and Amanda both walk into the room.
"Hey Sam. And hey, Miguel." Daniel says.
Miguel smiles. "Hey, Mr LaRusso. Or, should I say, Daniel?"
"You can call me Daniel if you want. We're not exactly strangers, are we?" Daniel has a wry smile on his face.
Miguel nods. "Cool."
"How's training for the All-Valley going?" Daniel asks.
Miguel scratches his head. "Today was just the first day. But I think it went relatively well."
"That's good." Daniel replies.
Miguel smiles slightly. "So, are you training anybody for the All-Valley?"
"My student's name is Robby Keene. I think you might have met him already." Daniel answers.
Miguel nods. "I did meet him, actually. He seems nice. Even though he's kind of quiet. Or taciturn."
"Alright. That might be enough karate talk for a while." Daniel says.
Miguel agrees. "Yeah. We could talk about it forever. Especially given that you're a former champion."
"Two-time champion, actually." Daniel corrects him.
Miguel looks slightly surprised. "Oh."
"Well, I'll leave you two to it." Daniel pushes his chair out and stands up.
Miguel and Sam watch as Daniel walks back into the kitchen.
Miguel turns his attention back to Sam. "So, how's your day been?"
"It's been good." Sam replies.
Miguel grins. "Great."
"My grandma and Cousin Louie are coming over for dinner later. So, that's kind of why my parents were so busy." Sam says.
Miguel understands. "Cool. Will I get to meet them? I've already met your mom, your dad and Anthony."
"Maybe. Dad has probably told them about how Cobra Kai got reinstated. Which would make things a bit awkward. If they find out you're in Cobra Kai." Sam remarks.
Miguel is slightly confused. "Your mom and dad seem fine with it."
"That's because they've gotten to know you. Grandma's nice, but she can be a bit…. Protective? If that's the right word?" Sam thinks about it.
Miguel ponders the question. "I think that's the right word. My Yaya is kind of like that. But grandparents are kind of like that anyway. I never really knew my grandfather, and I've known Yaya practically my whole life. She kind of helped raise me. Along with Mom, I mean."
"I never really thought about it that way. Hey, you want a soda or something? We're going to be having lunch soon, I hope." Sam kind of changes the subject.
Miguel nods. "A soda would be great."
He watches as Sam gets up and walks over to the kitchen.
Miguel was happy to spend more time with Sam.
Especially after the first real day of training for the All-Valley.
He wonders if Jason and Claire, or the others, had gone to check on Hawk.
They probably did.
He takes out his phone and sends texts to Jason, Claire, Aisha, Leonard, Hawk and some of the other Cobras.
Hawk was fine apart from getting bitten by a dog and having to get rabies injections as a result.
Which was a good thing.
Miguel stayed for lunch and hung out at the LaRusso house for a bit afterwards before Sam drove him home.
He was ready for whatever was going to happen next.
