A/N: The All-Valley is finally here. This story has been building up to the All-Valley, and it's not going to be exactly like what it was in Season 1. For various reasons. I've been planning the matches and who's going to win since the story started. Plus, there will be a girls' division in the All-Valley, unlike in Season 1 when there wasn't one.
Disclaimer: I don't own the Karate Kid movies, Cobra Kai or anything else that I might reference.
Get Ready
Miguel wakes up and gets dressed before doing some stretches.
He still has time before breakfast to call Sam.
Sam picks up after a few rings.
"Hey, Miguel! Are you ready for the All-Valley? I just wanted to wish you good luck when I had the chance." Sam says.
Miguel is slightly confused by the last part. "Oh. Okay. I thought your family was going to be at the All-Valley. Right?"
"Yeah. It's just that Dad is still a bit shook up over what happened at the home dojo." Sam replies.
Miguel exhales. "You mean when Robby revealed that he's Sensei's son? I don't know what the history between them is, and I'm not going to pretend that I do, but your dad seemed pretty upset by it. From what I could see before I left with Sensei, that is."
"Yeah. It's kind of a long story. And Dad would be a better person to tell that story than me." Sam answers.
Miguel runs a hand through his hair. "Because it's his story?"
"Kind of. Dad doesn't really talk about what happened before his second All-Valley win all that often." Sam's answer is fairly quick.
Miguel isn't sure if he wants to know exactly why. "Why not? I think your dad and Sensei are the only two people to have ever won the All-Valley twice."
"Dad doesn't want to talk about it because John Kreese came back and his old army buddy Terry Silver hired someone to beat him up while also trying to drive a wedge between Dad and Mr Miyagi. I guess he's still ashamed of what happened back then. Or something." Sam elaborates.
Miguel is almost shocked. "What? Did something happen to your dad? Was he…."
"No, no, no, no. Nothing like that happened. But Dad did kind of turn his back on Mr Miyagi back then. It took Mr Miyagi rescuing him to repair things between them." Sam replies.
Miguel understands. "Oh. It makes sense for him not to want to talk about it, in that case."
"LaRusso Auto is one of the sponsors of the All-Valley. And Dad is on the All-Valley board. So, he'll still be a spectator at the tournament. Even if he's not coaching anyone." Sam quickly changes the subject.
Miguel nods. "I think he'd have to step down from the All-Valley board if he was Robby's Sensei in the tournament. But that probably won't happen."
"Maybe not. But it's kind of hard to predict." Sam says.
Miguel understands. "Yeah. Well, I'll see you at the tournament."
"See you then." Sam hangs up.
Miguel puts his phone into his pocket before he goes to get his wallet.
He puts the Gi that Sensei had given him into a sports bag along with a karate black belt.
Miguel opens the door and walks into the living room and kitchen of the apartment.
He places the sports bag near the door.
It's a short walk from the door to the kitchen.
He sees Yaya sitting down at the table in the dining area of the apartment.
Mom is making breakfast.
"Good morning! Are you ready?" Yaya asks.
Miguel sits down. "I think so. Sensei trained us pretty well. There's nothing stopping us from winning."
"Good. But we'll still be proud of you no matter what happens." Yaya says.
Miguel smiles. "Thanks, Yaya."
"I mean it. I didn't think you'd be competing in a tournament. You've really grown a lot since you started training." Yaya continues.
Miguel looks down at the table before looking back up. "And I've made new friends. And there's Sam."
"We've met her already." Yaya points out.
Miguel looks a little embarrassed. "Oh. Yeah. Sam's going to be at the tournament because her dad is on the All-Valley board and LaRusso Auto is one of the sponsors. But she's not going to be competing, even if she has been contemplating getting back into karate again. Obviously."
"Of course." Yaya understands.
Miguel looks over at where Mom is standing. "I don't think either of you have met Sam's parents yet. They're pretty nice people. And they're going to be at the All-Valley."
"Great." Yaya answers.
Miguel is about to say something when Mom calls him. "Miggy! Would you mind setting the table?"
"Sure!" Miguel pushes back his chair and stands up.
He gets plates and cutlery from different drawers.
Miguel places cutlery on either side of the plates.
Breakfast goes by without too much incident.
Miguel helps Mom and Yaya clear the table.
They hear the doorbell ring.
Miguel goes to open the door and sees Sensei standing in front of him.
Sensei looks like he's been preparing for the All-Valley as much as Miguel and the other Cobra Kai students have been.
Particularly over the last week or so.
Sensei leans against the door frame. "Hey, Miguel. Do your family know how to get to the All-Valley Sports Arena? Or, do you need a guide?"
"I think we know where it is. But I wouldn't say no to a guide." Mom interjects.
Sensei grins. "Great. The All-Valley Sports Arena isn't too far away. And, I'd be happy to be your guide."
"That's very kind of you." Mom says.
Sensei scratches his head. "Thanks. It's nothing, really. Especially because we're going to the same place."
"We'll follow you." Mom suggests.
Miguel already knows that Mom and Sensei are in a relationship, especially because Sensei spent a few nights at the apartment over the last few weeks.
Sensei agrees with Mom's suggestion. "Great."
Miguel takes his sports bag and watches as Sensei walks over to his Dodge Challenger and unlocks it.
Sensei gets into the driver's seat and starts the car.
Miguel watches as Mom gets her keys before they leave the apartment.
Mom unlocks the car before Yaya gets into the back seat and Miguel gets into the front passenger seat.
Miguel puts his sports bag in the boot of the car.
Sensei drives off.
Mom starts the car and follows him.
The drive to the All-Valley Sports Arena doesn't take too long.
Which is a good thing, because Miguel has been looking forward to the All-Valley all week.
….
Jason manages to find an empty parking space and parks the Dodge Viper.
He gets out of the car and sees Sensei standing to one side of a growing group of Cobra Kai students.
Jason walks over to the group of Cobra Kai students.
Claire gives him a hug, Aisha says hello, Leonard high fives him and Hawk gives him a fist bump.
Their parents had already made their way into the All-Valley Sports Arena, so Jason didn't see them.
Miguel is standing in the middle of the group.
"Hey, Jason!" Miguel exclaims.
Jason gives Miguel a high five. "Hey, Miguel! What's up?"
"Not much. I've been looking forward to the tournament all week. My mom and Yaya are already inside, so you probably won't see them until after we've signed up."
Jason nods. "Cool."
They watch as some more Cobra Kai students walk up to the group. Sensei waits until all the Cobra Kai students have arrived before he gets the group's attention.
"There's still one more lesson that I have to teach you." Sensei announces.
Jason looks confused. "What lesson is that?"
Sensei doesn't answer.
They walk inside before Sensei continue.
"Listen up!" Sensei shouts.
Everybody turns their attention to him.
Sensei looks around at the group. "You've all learned to strike first. And I've taught you to strike hard."
"But I haven't really taught you the third rule of Cobra Kai. Until now. No mercy. Life is not fair, and you're going to learn that as you go through it. You wake up one morning and everything's great, but life throws a spinning heel kick to the nads." Sensei continues.
Sensei keeps going. "It can get worse. You could get an "F" on a test. Or you could get suspended."
"You meet a girl, fall in love, but then someone else comes in and steals her away." Sensei looks around at the group.
Everybody stays silent.
Sensei is almost finished. "Somebody trashes your car and sets it on fire. Life can throw things at you, and things can fall apart. But that's just the way life is. Life doesn't show mercy, and neither do we. We do whatever it takes to keep our heads above water. We do whatever it takes to keep on moving forward. And we do whatever it takes to win!" Sensei exclaims.
Everybody looks at each other and nods.
Sensei looks proud. "Just remember everything I taught you! You're capable of anything! You're not just here to take part! You're here to win! Because you're Cobra Kai!"
"COBRA KAI!" Jason yells.
The rest of the group also shouts out. "COBRA KAI!"
"It's time to kick some ass!" Sensei exclaims.
Miguel checks his sports bag for his gi. "Are we getting tournament gi?"
"Yep." Sensei smiles.
He hands everybody a gi.
The gis are black with yellow on the collar and a gold stripe running down the side of the legs. They're also sleeveless.
Everybody walks over to sign up and heads to the lockers to get changed.
It's about fifteen or twenty minutes before the officials put up lists of names outside of the lockers.
The girls' tournament would be happening first, followed by the boys' tournament. Students from different dojos are looking at the lists. Both tournaments were split into different divisions. There were less competitors in the girls' tournament, so the divisions were smaller.
Even though the All-Valley was split into two different tournaments, the dojos would still be announced one by one at the start.
The announcer is doing a good job at announcing the different dojos.
Miguel and the rest of the Cobra Kai students all stand behind Jason.
Darryl, the announcer, has two more dojos left to call out. "From Reseda, returning to the tournament after more than thirty years…."
"Cobra Kai! Cobra Kai! Cobra Kai!" The Cobra Kai students all chant in unison.
Jason is the one who leads them out.
Darryl still has one more dojo, or person, left to announce. "Finally, from North Hills, fighting unaffiliated, it's Mr Robby Keene!"
Everybody watches as Robby runs out of the locker room.
"It's karate time! The girls' tournament is first, but the boys can stay and watch." Darryl says.
The boys from Cobra Kai, the different dojos, and Robby fan out and watch as the girls' tournament commences.
There were less competitors in the girls' tournament, so things got started fairly quickly.
It was going to be a big deal no matter who would go on to win it.
