Note: Hey whats up everybody! I told ya I'd try to keep the updates coming pretty quick! We're heading into the sports festival!
Just a quick FYI: This is the first time I've tried to pay attention to so many different characters at the same time so I hope I did okay. I feel confident about how I've handled this chapter though.
This was going to be a much larger chapter but I felt that I needed to cut it off at the point that I did.
@Incarnate47: Miruko will definitely be making a bigger appearance in this story than she does in the manga or the anime. I've pretty much already decided Peter's internship, but I will absolutely consider it as an option. I can already see a direction that would be interesting to go with him interning with her. Miruko actually is on my list of internships possibilities for Momo though! After the sports festival wraps up (and Peter finishes dinner with the Yaoyorozus) I'll start putting some things together and pick the best option! Thanks for your review!
@SulliMike23: Peter and Midoriya will definitely become much closer as Midoriya becomes friends with Todoroki. Midoriya is the main person the canon plot revolves around and I want to involve Peter as much as possible. Happy to hear from you again :)
@Toasthatisordinary: Holy crap thats by far the nicest thing anyone has said about my writing ever!! Thank you so much! Glad to have you following along! a lot of this chapter was wrote using your words as inspiration! :)
Alright guys thank you all for continuing to support this story! Lets get into it...
I do not own any of the characters depicted in this story...
"Mom I'm trying to tell you he's not my-"
"What's his name? When did you two meet? How long have you been hiding him from us? Does he go to UA as well? When are you going to let your father and I meet him?..." The questions from her mother had not stopped since she was pulled into the house. They just kept coming... One after another, like a barrage of bullets, none of which she had time to answer before the next. It was as if her brain was running too fast to function.
"Mother...Mother!... MOM!..." The poor girl desperately tried to get her mother to calm down enough for her to get a word in edgewise. She turned back to her father, and rolled her eyes, "Well dad, is it everything you could have possibly wanted?"
Her mother continued to fire off rapid inquiries in the background. Her father rubbed the back of his head as his glasses began to drop down slightly. "It's actually way more than I expected...In fact, it's kinda starting to scare me... Hon... Hon!... YANA??"
The avalanche of questions finally stopped as her mother was broken from whatever spell of mania had just taken over her. "Oh my goodness I'm so sorry! I don't quite know what just came over me..." She turned to her daughter again, "Now then... Everyone into the nearest living room. I'm going to make us some tea and then you can tell us everything." Her mother ordered and sprung off into the kitchen.
Momo sighed and looked at her father, "Why is she like this?"
Her father was a tall man with the same long jet black hair as his wife and daughter except he kept his a tad shorter, falling to about shoulder level. He had untied his hair letting it fall naturally as he tended to do outside of his work life. Her father was a very kind man with a humorous personality, and his family meant the world to him. Though carefree and easy going at home, he was extremely intelligent with a flair for invention. His intellect paired well with his quirk, which gave him the ability of transmutation. He could take any object and turn it into something completely different as long as the two objects shared at least one similarity, which he used to help build his support items business into an empire of generational wealth.
He pushed his glasses back up on his face and patted his daughter's shoulder as he chuckled. "Go easy on her kiddo, your mom has been sitting in boring business meetings with a lot of dull people over the past couple of weeks. I think she's just been deprived of a little excitement lately..." He told her cheerily, "Besides, you're her whole world, this is big news for her!"
Momo couldn't help but smile at the words of her father. "Well, in any case, if I have to go in there then so do you two." She stated bluntly as she led them both into the room her mother was waiting in.
Mr. Yaoyorozu turned to Mr. Kenichi, "I'm curious... Did you already know about this?" He asked with a grin.
Mr. Kenichi cracked a smile, "I might have been sworn to a short period of secrecy..." He winked as the two men made their way to the living room.
Everyone sat down around a small table as Yana placed down a silver tray and poured everyone some tea. The lady of the house was a genius in her own right as well. She was an extremely savvy woman who had graduated at the top of her class from the finest business school Japan had to offer. She was extremely beautiful as well. Some people close to her growing up even expected her to become a supermodel due to her quirk, which allowed her to instantly burn any amount of fat from anywhere on her body. However, she was far from vain as she hardly ever used her quirk at all. Her belief was that true beauty came from within a person. She was just as free spirited as her husband, making them an extremely compatible couple and an effective team to run their family business.
When she met Takashi Yaoyorozu, her heart began to beat differently from that moment forward. He was referred to her for a consultation meeting by one of his colleagues when he was just getting his young business off the ground. When they met, they talked for many hours... But they never made it to the subject of his professional proposal. From that point forward, the rest was history.
She took her seat beside her husband as she tried to compose herself to prevent another outburst of unyielding excitement. "Alright Momo, fess up time. Tell us all about him." She leaned back against the couch.
She sighed, she knew this conversation would have to happen sooner or later. She wanted more than just the friendship she had with Peter, so it was only logical to open up to her parents about her feelings. Hopefully as two people who were in a loving, healthy relationship, they could provide her insight about her feelings or even offer her some helpful advice... She noticed their goofy looking grins and decided not to hold her breath.
She looked at Mr. Kenichi who just smiled and offered a nod of encouragement. She remembered the first night, at the beginning of this rollercoaster she had hopped on, when she had confided in him. Something about his presence made her relax.
"His name is Peter Parker..."
The morning sun had yet to fully rise as Peter stepped out of his front door. The crisp air of the early dawn blew through his hair as he walked down the street towards the spot he had visited every day since he arrived in Japan. Goosebumps had raised up on his arms. Today was the day the country he called his new home would be made aware that he had arrived. There were talks of UA's first ever American transfer student buzzing around amongst the articles written about what spectators could look forward to during this year's sports festival. The pressure was on, but he relished the challenge that was presented before him.
He opened the door to the cafe and stepped inside. He was the first person to visit the shop that morning. As he stepped up to the counter, the same lady who was working every day greeted him with a smile. He ordered two cups of Momo's usual tea and quite a bit of food the menu had to offer and took a seat at the table they always sat at. He checked his phone, usually she was already waiting for him. It was unlike her to be running behind, especially on such an important day...
He began to type out a message to check on her as a black limousine pulled up outside in front of the entrance. He lowered his phone as he watched through the window. An older looking man got out of the driver's seat and walked around the vehicle. He stopped at the back door and opened it up as Momo got out and headed inside in a hurry as the man got back into the vehicle and drove away.
Peter cocked an eyebrow as she opened the door and looked around frantically. Once she spotted him she made a beeline towards him with an apologetic expression on her face. She sat down. "Hey! Sorry I'm late I had to beg my parents not to ambush you in here."
He laughed as he handed her one of the cups. She had told him all about the family interrogation she had received after they parted ways over the phone. "Sounds like they really wanna meet me... Here, I ordered you plenty of food so you can be ready to use your quirk today." He said as he pushed the food he has ordered to her side of the table. She smiled sweetly at his thoughtful gesture and unwrapped a breakfast sandwich.
"Yeah, well they're gonna get their wish tomorrow night if you will oblige. Thanks for the food by the way."
"No proble-.. Wait... What do you mean?" He asked as he took a sip of his drink.
"I mean, that the only way I was able to save you from them this morning, was by promising to invite you over to dinner tomorrow night." She explained, "You don't have to come if you don-"
"I'll be there." He said quickly.
She looked at him in surprise, she had expected the offer to be a little premature considering that they weren't dating. "Really?"
"Absolutely. Wouldn't miss it for the world." He smiled.
"I'll let them know then." She beamed happily as she pulled out her phone and typed a message to her mother.
"So how are you feeling?" He asked her with a determined stare.
"I'm nervous... But not in a way that I'm used to." She answered with a sheepish smile as she tapped her finger tips against the cup in her hands. "Normally I'd be a wreck wondering if I could measure up to the competition, but now I just feel... Excited."
He felt happy to hear her confidence seemed as though it was beginning to finally stick. "You're gonna do great Mo. I can feel it. Something inside me just knows you will." He said as he looked into her eyes.
She felt weak and incredibly strong at the same time. It was too early in the morning for her heart to race this fast.
"So are your parents going to be at the festival?"
"Yes, my father actually has a luxury box. He usually scouts the support course students every year, but he said he's actually going to just enjoy himself watching the games this time since I'm in them."
"I bet he's gonna be extremely proud of you. Does he have anyone else he's looking forward to watching?" He asked as he remembered all the different news stories and articles about their class that had circulated over the week.
"Funny you should mention it... He said he's very interested in your performance."
"No pressure right?" He laughed.
Peter suddenly felt an almost primal urge to impress her father. He couldn't explain it. It was as if something had lit an even bigger fire inside of him the moment he heard those words. He looked into the eyes of the girl sitting across from him and realized that her father wasn't the only one he wanted to impress...
The two continued to talk about the challenges that were set in front of them until they decided that they had to get going. They waved to the lady at the counter and headed for the stadium as she turned on the television set.
Peter headed out of the locker room. He was the first one to leave as the rest of the boys were still changing into their metallic blue gym uniforms. He began to stretch his arms out as he made his way to the waiting room that was designated for class 1A. On the way he caught up to Present Mic and Aizawa on their way to the commentary booth. He walked beside them as they exited the school and turned in the direction of the arena.
"You look like you're ready to rock Parker!!! I've heard the news that people are expecting you to really bring the house down!! Make sure you don't let all that fame go to your head!" Mic said a few octaves too loud.
He just smiled with a sense of determination in response as he continued to look forward.
"Don't bother him. He needs to focus on what's ahead." Aizawa said as Mic continued to smile widely.
"Aww don't be like that Eraser! I'm just trying to turn his volume up a notch or two! Hey! If you show us a little flair out there I'll be sure to talk you up big time kiddo!"
"So you two are announcing this whole thing huh? Mr. Mic I get, but how'd you get talked into that Mr. Aizawa? No offense, but it doesn't really seem like your ideal role in this whole thing."
Aizawa sighed, "Observant as ever aren't you Parker? No, this isn't my idea of a good time, but someone has to be able to reign this guy in and provide actual insight to what's going on... And I get to nap during intermissions."
"There it is." He said as he snickered.
"Get moving Parker. You've got more important things to worry about than what I'm doing." He said sternly. "And don't stop anywhere on the way. Anyone seen in a gym uniform today is likely to get absolutely mobbed by the media and fans."
"Yes sir." He said as he started to jog away from the two teachers.
Present Mic looked over at the lowly energized man. "You actually entertained one of his questions instead of giving him the cold shoulder. Looks like you do have your favorites after all... Kid must be something special."
"Just watch and see. There's something about that kid that people gravitate towards... He rallied his entire class when the entire student body made it known that they'd be challenging them. There are a lot of students in my class that I think will make a significant impact on our society in the future... He's definitely one of them."
Present Mic turned his head back in the direction of the boy jogging away. "That's pretty killer..."
Shoto zipped up his uniform and glanced around the locker room. Nobody was saying a word. Even Kaminari seemed to be taking this seriously, though the electrifying individual seemed to be extremely on edge. He fixed his gaze on Midoriya, who was changing silently in the corner with a much more intense look on his face... Everything Shoto had endured, all of the frustration he held towards his father and his purpose that was chosen for him was unfortunately being temporarily directed towards the green headed boy who only wanted nothing more than to truly help people in need. His mysterious connection to his biggest idol had sealed that fate for him. He continued to scan the room until his eyes reached Bakugo's staring back at him with an unyielding glare. Shoto stared back for a second then turned and shut his locker before heading out to make his way to the stadium.
All of his training was going to be tested today. He was ready. He had prepared in solitude for this opportunity. He knew his father would be in attendance, and he would be ready to show him that he could succeed without the help of his power that he passed down to him. The power that meant more to him then even his own children. He would do this not only for himself, but for his older brother and sister as well. He did not accept the role of his father's masterpiece and was going to do everything he could to take it away from him the way his father took their mother from them.
He would succeed without him today.
He walked out of the school with a facial expression of anger and determination...
Izuku had watched the son of Endeavor take his leave. He felt the glaring eyes of his classmates just moments ago. He didn't understand what he had done but he knew he couldn't afford to focus on it at the moment. Today was the day All Might was counting on him to show the world that he was here. His debut as the fledgling symbol of peace was at hand. Nobody could understand how much weight the young hero carried on his shoulders.
The glare of Shoto Todoroki was not the only set of eyes on him. As he turned to leave, Katsuki Bakugo's face darkened at the sight of the boy. Izuku suddenly remembered the words the boy screamed at him after their first hero exercise.
"YOU WON'T BEAT ME AGAIN!! I'M JUST GETTING STARTED!!!"
He turned away from his rival and made his own way towards the stadium.
As if not being able to control his own power wouldn't make this competition difficult enough for him, it now was apparent that two of his most powerful classmates were looking to take him down specifically. He was nervous, but there was no way he would back down. He owed it to All Might to find a way over these hurdles. As he walked he began to do what he knew he did best... Strategize.
Peter pushed the door to the waiting room assigned to his class open, only to find it empty. He stepped inside and took a seat at one of the many folding tables that had been sat out for the students. It was the last moment he would be afforded to mentally steady himself. He felt shaky. His hair stood on end. His heart rate was uncomfortably high. He had been in situations like this before where he felt too worked up, and there was only one thing that never failed to give him the strength or clarity he needed to perform any task, no matter how impossible or daunting it may seem. He opened his voicemails in his phone and pressed play on one near the bottom of the list. The voice of his Aunt May echoed throughout the empty room as the boy stared at the ground.
"Peter, I know this isn't the way you wanted to hear this, but the doctor informed me today that I don't have a lot of time left... He's giving me to the end of the week at most. I know you're busy with school and wherever you are always disappearing off too... But I just need you to know some things that I hope you will always remember throughout your life... And that is that I'm so proud of you.. I'm so, so very proud of the man you are becoming. No matter where you find yourself in this world, I know that you will accomplish great things. This world you live in can be very difficult... But it is when things are at their hardest, that the world needs a light of kindness to shine its brightest. Always do your best to be that light Peter. Always make time to help those who need it most. You're uncle and I were so fortunate to get to watch you grow up. Never forget that you're never alone. We will always love you. I'll see you when you visit after school today sweetie. Goodbye dear..."
The boy's head raised as he wiped the tears from the side of his face and exhaled heavily. His mind was refocused and calm. He placed the phone in one of the lockers provided to the students and sat in silence. After a few short moments, the door to the waiting room opened as Shoto entered and sat down at the same table across from him. The two nodded towards each other as they both continued to sit in silence. Over the course of the next few minutes, the door continued to open, one by one his classmates began to enter the room until finally everyone was accounted for.
Momo and Kyoka took their seats next to Todoroki. Kirishima and Kaminari had already taken both seats beside Peter. Everyone began to talk amongst one another in hopes of breaking the crippling tension that hung in the air around them, but there were a few who remained silent. One of them was none other than Shoto as his eyes remained fixed on Izuku Midoriya who sat across the room.
"How are you feeling Parker? Ready to turn some heads?" Kirishima smiled at him.
"Ready as I'll ever be." He answered with a serious expression as a small smile made its way onto his face.
"I wonder what they have in store for us in the first round..." Kaminari wondered with a hint of anxiety in his words.
"Whatever it is, we have to be ready for anything." Momo pointed out.
An alarm on Iida's phone went off indicating that they would be fetched by one of the teachers and led into the stadium at any minute. "Alright everyone! Get your game faces on! They should be coming to get us any second now!"
Midoriya stood up nervously. And began to walk towards the door as Todoroki stood up as well.
"Midoriya..." Shoto called out as he made his way over to stand in front of him face to face, earning the attention of everyone in the room.
Momo and Jiro looked to Peter to see if he knew what was going on. He suddenly had a stern expression on his face as he gave them a knowing look that seemed to tell them this interaction was necessary. Momo remembered her conversation with him at the restaurant and was able to piece together that whatever was going on had a deeper discussion behind it. The two watched as Peter turned his focus back towards the two standing in the middle of the room.
"O-oh, hey Todoroki..." Izuku stuttered in tense confusion.
The class looked on as Shoto cut straight to the point. "From an objective standpoint... I think it's clearly fair to say that I'm stronger than you." He stated bluntly.
"Y-yeah.." Midoriya conceded as the words stung a bit to hear spoken out loud.
"However..."
Izuku looked up as Bakugo had finally afforded the interaction with his attention.
"You have All Might in your corner helping you out..." The green haired boy's eyes widened as Todoroki's glare intensified. "I'm not here to pry about what's going on between you two... I don't really care..."
Everyone in the room felt an incredible tension return to the room as the son of Endeavor spoke.
"Just know that I will beat you."
Kaminari tried to stop the building suspense. "Wh-whats with all these declarations of war lately?... Heh... Heh heh." Jiro kicked him lightly under the table as she had been able to read Peter's expression a second ago. She held a finger up to her mouth.
Kirishima had a worried expression on his face. "Yeah man, why are you picking a fight all of a sudden? And right before we get started..." He started to get up from his seat, but Peter's outstretched forearm caused him to look to his side. Peter just shook his head indicating for the redhead to not get involved.
Momo grew worried as the expression on Peter's face was troubling to her. She knew there was a lot that was plaguing his thoughts in this moment, only this time she couldn't offer him any words to help in such a public setting.
"We're not here to be each other's friends! Don't forget, this isn't a team effort." Shoto responded coldly to the hardening quirk user without turning around.
Bakugo stared on through gritted teeth across the room. Deku wasn't the person he felt Todoroki should be focused on beating in his mind.
Shoto turned around to walk away but was stopped in his tracks as Midoriya offered a response.
"Listen Todoroki...I don't know what's going through your mind... Or why you feel the need to tell me you'll beat me... And yeah... Of course you're better than me, you may have more potential than any of us in the hero course... It's why you got admitted through recommendation."
Iida placed his hand on the boy's shoulder. "Midoriya, you need to relax. You might be being a little too hard on yoursel-"
"No!" He turned around and looked into the eyes of all of his classmates. "He's right you guys... This isn't a team effort. It's like Parker said earlier this week... All the other classes... They're coming for us..."
He remembered the words the mysterious kid from general studies had said:
"If you don't bring your very best performance, then I will steal your spot out from under you."
"We're all going to have to fight to stand out..."
Everyone looked at each other and nodded. Momo noticed the smile that had made its way onto Peter's face and her determination grew ten fold.
Midoriya turned his attention back to Todoroki with an expression that said he wouldn't back down. "...And I'll be aiming for the top too."
Todoroki only said one word in response... "Fine."
At that moment the door to the waiting room opened as professor Snipe entered.
"Sure hope you're ready class A... It's a mad house out there. Follow me to the field for the introductions."
Everyone got up from their seats and headed for the door. Peter winked at Momo as they stood. She offered a focused grin as the two walked beside one another, while Jiro and Todoroki tagged along beside them.
The countdown on the massive jumbotron was nearing its final few seconds as the hundreds of thousands is attendance joined in chanting along during its final ticks.
"5!... 4!... 3!... 2!... 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
The crowd let out a massive roar that vibrated through the air as the students approached the tunnel. Suddenly the screen came to life as Present Mic popped onto the large monitor.
"HEY ALL YOU SPORTS FANS AROUND THE STADIUM AND THE WORLD ARE YOU READY FOR THIS YEARS UA SPORTS FESTIVAAAAAAAAAAAAL?!?!?!?!?!?!?!"
Another roar seemed to shake the very earth beneath them.
"Man I knew it was gonna be loud but this is nuts!!" Peter said as competitive excitement began to run through his veins.
Momo nodded in agreement as she looked ahead of them in suspense.
Shoto's expression didn't seem to change. He was locked in. Ready for whatever challenge awaited him.
Jiro seemed to be conflicted. She had been to multiple concerts in her life and felt right at home amongst the loud cheers, but performing in front of a crowd of this size was another matter entirely.
Some other students were growing anxious with each step as others practically foamed at the mouth, no longer able to contain their competitive spirits.
"WE HAVE ONE HECK OF A SHOW FOR YOU ROCKING LADIES AND GENTLEMEN AND IT ALL STARTS WITH THIS EXTREMELY AMPED UP GROUP OF FIRST YEAR STUDENTS!!!! MEDIA MEMBERS, GET THOSE CAMERAS ROLLING AND SPORTS FANS, MAKE SOME NOISE AS OUR STUDENTS MAKE THEIR WAY OUT ONTO THE FIELD!!!"
Cameras flashed and TV crews aimed their lenses at the different tunnels the competitors would soon step out from. The crowd, once again went wild, letting out a weeks worth of built up anticipation. Viewers at home turned up the volume on their television sets and scooted to the edges of their seats. People inside of restaurants all paused their conversations and the waiters and waitresses all stopped in their tracks. Everyone around the world ran to the nearest TV or electronic device they could find yhat would allow them to witness the event. The massive screens around New York City from Times Square to Central Park... From Yankee Stadium to Madison Square Garden... All began to display the broadcast, all eyes watching for the mysterious young hero who was once a resident of their city. The UA sports festival's opening ceremonies had begun.
An extravagant barrage of fireworks exploded into the air as colorful cinders filled the sky.
"THIS FIRST GROUP IS NO STRANGER TO THE SPOTLIGHT!!! YOU ALL KNOW THEM FROM WITHSTANDING A VILLAIN ATTACK! THESE YOUNG STUDENTS ARE SURE TO TOP THE CHARTS WITH SOME ADULT CALIBER SKILLS!!! EVERYONE PUT YOUR HANDS TOGETHER FOR THE HERO COURSE STUDENTS OF CLASS 1A!!!!!!!!"
The students began to trickle out of the tunnel. The bright sunlight washed over their faces as the crowd welcomed them with a standing ovation. It was a very surreal experience. They had all watched these games every year and dreamt of their chance to compete. Now that time had come at last. As Peter and Momo exited the tunnel he leaned over towards her.
"You're gonna do great... Just treat it like our training sessions and there's no telling how far you can go."
She smiled and offered him some encouragement as well. "Take a good look Peter... When the dust has settled, I guarantee you'll be a household name."
"Look at all these people!!" Ochako exclaimed.
"I hope everyone is able to do their best with all these eyes on us... But that just comes with the territory of being a pro hero I suppose." Iida said as Midoriya nodded in agreement.
"Present Mic sure did talk us up a lot... Kinda makes me nervous..." Kirishima began to sweat but kept his smile. He turned to his explosive best friend, "How're you feeling man?"
Bakugo spoke through an almost unhinged looking competitive game face, "It makes me wanna win this damn thing even more!"
"NOT ONES TO BE OUTSHINED BY ANY COMPETITION... PLEASE GIVE IT UP FOR A GROUP PACKED FULL OF POWER AND POTENTIAL, HERO COURSE CLASS 1B!!!!!"
The students of 1A looked at the tunnel to their right as class B emerged. They were led into the stadium by their own class rep. She had her long orange hair tied up into a side ponytail and her eyes were filled with a resolve that was unmatched by anyone else in her class. Her confident smirk matched her stride as she marched into the arena with a purpose. To her left was a boy with golden blonde hair combed neatly to one side. He looked over at the class to his left with a cockiness as if he had already claimed his victory. To her right, the silver haired boy who had vowed to knock Katsuki Bakugo down a peg pressed forward with a scowl. Refusing to give his opponents any more attention, he fixed his eyes ahead of him.
"AND NOW SHOW SOME LOVE FOR GENERAL STUDIES CLASSES C, D, AND E!!!!!"
The three classes each appeared out of the next tunnel. Their demeanors were much less enthusiastic than the previous two classes. Some even verbally expressed their own dismay of having to compete in the games in the first place. After all, it was an extreme rarity for anyone outside of the hero and support courses to make it past the first round.
"Something tells me that we're only here to make the hero courses look good." Complained a girl as she anxiously looked towards the other classes.
"Let's just get this over with." Another said in an exasperated tone.
Ahead of all the grumbling was the very student who had challenged class A at the beginning of the week. He remained silent as he slowly made his way towards the middle of the stadium field, his resolve pushing him forward with every step. He would be a hero. No matter what.
"AND NOW FOR THE SUPPORT COURSES CLASSES F, G, AND H!!!!!"
A hoard of students wearing all sorts of different gadgets appeared out of the next tunnel. Leading the way, was a pink haired girl who looked like she had just finished filming a steam punk music video. Grease had smudged both her uniform and her face. Her arms were covered in oil burns, but still she smiled, excited to show off her inventory of inventions for the companies who took a special interest in scouting potential additions to their future design teams.
"FINALLY LETS HERE IT FOR BUSINESS COURSES I, J, AND K!!!!"
The business course students slowly trudged their way into the stadium. They were eager, not to compete, but to get the first round over with so they could begin running real life business simulations and provide their own commentary on the scouting stocks of the students who would continue on in the competition. The whole competing part wasn't really for them, but they were more than at peace with that.
All of the classes gathered in front of the stadium stage in the middle of the arena field and waited for the opening ceremony to continue.
"NOW THAT WE HAVE THE INTRODUCTIONS OUT OF THE WAY, LETS EVERYBODY WELCOME OUR CHIEF UMPIRE FOR THE FIRST YEAR GAMES AND GET THIS PARTY STARTEEEEEEEED!!! LET'S ALL HERE IT FOR THE BEAUTIFUL PRO HERO MIDNIIIIIIIIIIIGHT!!!!!!!!"
The heroine in question sauntered up to the stage amongst the cheers and took hold of the microphone.
"Somebody should really have a talk with Ms. Midnight about what she's wearing..." Kirishima suggested.
"Yeah that costume is a little much.." Kaminari agreed.
"She can't possibly think that's appropriate attire for a high school game..." Tokoyami uttered under his breath.
"SILENCE EVERYONE!!!" She shouted into the microphone as she cracked her whip. "ITS TIME FOR THE STUDENT PLEDGE! THIS YEARS SPEECHES WILL BE GIVEN BY: KATSUKI BAKUGO AND PETER PARKER!"
Everyone looked around confused until Iida spoke, "Makes sense, those two scored the highest on their entrance exams for the entirety of the hero course."
Peter's eyes grew wide. When was this decided?! Why didn't anyone mention this to him before?! Public speaking was one thing, he could charismatically navigate that, but there were nearly four hundred thousand people packed into this sold out stadium! The class looked at the two boys with expectation. Momo turned to the boy beside her in shock. That was one hell of a position to be thrown into at a moment's notice. But in her mind she knew that if anyone could pull it off, it would be him.
"Seems easy enough... All I have to do is deliver an inspirational message completely off the cuff in front of an audience of nearly half a million people... All while being on a worldwide TV broadcast." He said under his breath as he made his way towards the stage as his classmates shared their sympathetic laughter and offered him some encouragement.
Momo watched in anticipation as the two boys made their way to the stage. Bakugo pushed past Peter and grabbed the microphone. All of the screens around the stadium flashed and displayed Bakugo's student picture wearing his trademark scowl.
Class 1A held their breath and crossed their fingers as sweat drops formed on their foreheads, hoping desperately that he wouldn't add on to the hate he had already created towards their class.
"There's no way he'll make an ass out of himself on international television right?" Tokoyami asked out loud as he turned around to face Midoriya, who was the only one to know Bakugo before the school year started. Everyone looked at the boy and awaited his answer. He flashed a smile that made him look like the poster child for anxiety.
"I wouldn't get my hopes up." He said apologetically.
They all groaned and looked back to the boy on the stage. There was a long pause before he spoke as silence fell over the massive crowd.
"...I just wanna say... I'm gonna win." Were the words that echoed throughout the stadium speaker systems.
'WHY WOULD HE SAY SOMETHING LIKE THAT?!' Was the collective thought that raced through the minds of class 1A.
Iida furiously waved his arms and shook violently, "WHY WOULD YOU SAY SOMETHING SO DISRESPECTFUL?! YOU'RE REPRESENTING US ALL!!" He shouted in disbelief.
The boy turned around to face him from the stage, "It's not my fault all you losers are just stepping stones to my victory." He said pointing his thumb down.
His words were picked up by the mic and the boos followed immediately from not only the other students, but by some members of the crowd as well. The boy was unbothered as he made his way off the stage in a care free manner, shoving the microphone into Peter's chest.
"WHAT AN OVERCONFIDENT JERK! I CANT WAIT TO KNOCK HIM ON HIS ASS!!!" The silver haired boy shouted amongst the roaring discontent.
Peter looked to his classmates who all stared back at him, almost seemingly begging him to fix the mess that was created before them.
The screens suddenly flashed again and changed to his own class photo. He looked over and saw himself on the jumbotron. 'Well at least he's not a tough act to follow... I could just walk off the stage and get a better reaction than that.' he thought to himself. He remembered the words from Aunt May's voicemail...
"It is when things are at their hardest, that the world needs a light of kindness to shine its brightest..."
He held the microphone to his mouth...
...
Unbeknownst to Peter, up in one of the luxury boxes, Takashi Yaoyorozu looked down at the boy awaiting the words he would speak with his wife by his side.
"Is that him?" Yana asked as she looked at her husband.
"Sure is... Looks like we're about to find out a lot about Mr. Parker before we even get the chance to meet him... I'm interested to see what he has to say... Typically when people are faced with this particular situation one of two things tend to happen... They either fall on their face or put their foot in their mouth... But some who are truly special can make the world want to follow them when things seem their worst..." He said as he took a drink from his glass of expensive whiskey.
'What's it gonna be young man?' he finished his thought mentally.
Yana looked at the TV screen in the room. "He's cute! No wonder little Momo has taken such a liking to him."
Takashi smiled at his wife's words and continued to look down at the boy.
...
Meanwhile inside a restaurant somewhere in New York City...
A old man was finishing his meal as he looked up at the TV screen.
"Hey that's him! That's the kid that used to live here!" He heard the table next to him point out.
The old man's hair was snow white and slicked backwards. He removed his glasses and squinted his eyes at the screen showing the young man's class picture. He brought his hand up to his chin just below his white mustache and spoke to himself.
"Where have I seen that kid before?..."
...
Peter took a deep breath then turned around towards Bakugo, who was walking down the stairs of the stage, and spoke...
"I think I speak for everyone here when I say... You're going to have to go through us first Bakugo..." Silence took back over the stadium at his words. Bakugo stopped walking and turned around with a scowl.
He turned his attention to the stands. "I wasn't born here, I came from America... And even though I haven't been here very long, Japan has felt more like a home to me than anywhere else in the world ever has... I can't even begin to express my gratitude for all of those who have welcomed me to this beautiful country with open arms... I also want to say that everyone you see here today, are all working harder than you could ever possibly imagine to achieve their own goals and reach their own ideas of what greatness is... and that goes far beyond just the hero course students. I believe everyone you see standing here is the best this nation has to offer. Every single person standing behind me may be my competition today... But tomorrow, we will all go back to working together to achieve the same goal... To ensure a bright future for not just Musutafu, but for all of Japan... And this is a message from myself... When I become a pro... I will do everything in my power to become a hero that all of Japan can be proud to call one of it's own. Thank you."
He handed the microphone back to Midnight and began to walk off as a thunderous round of applause shook the stadium. His class looked at him as if he had done the impossible as the rest of the students actually clapped at his short speech.
"NOW THAT'S MORE LIKE IT!!!" Midnight exclaimed.
Present Mic covered his microphone with his hand, "I definitely understand why you have your eye on that kid. He's really something else." he said to his long haired colleague who nodded in response.
"NOW WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, LETS DECIDE WHAT THE FIRST EVENT SHALL BE!" Midnight announced as the jumbotron caught the attention of everyone in attendance. A virtual wheel began to spin with a list of events.
Momo nodded at him with a wide smile as Peter returned to her side. "You're a natural at public speaking. You did an amazing job!" she forced herself to focus as she felt her heart pulling to him like it never had before. She chuckled as she noticed his body language.
Peter let out a massive sigh of relief. "Thanks... God I hope I never have to do that again..." He said as his heart was still pounding.
"UA doesn't believe in letting us catch our breath huh?" Ochako smiled at Midoriya.
The wheel stopped as the first round's event was revealed to everyone: OBSTACLE RACE.
'So it's an obstacle course then...' Midoriya thought to himself as Midnight began to explain the rules of the game.
"Get ready to feel the pain young students! This event will be a four kilometer race around the perimeter of the stadium... The first forty two to cross the finish line through the designated tunnel will move on to the second round!" She began as the students all nodded in understanding. The rules seemed pretty straight forward as far as they were concerned.
Midnight's smile took on a certain mischievous quality to it as she continued, "I don't want to restrain anyone... At least not in these circumstances... So any and all quirk use will be allowed for this event!"
The students cringed at the implications her words carried as a large but narrow doorway across the stadium opened.
"Everyone please make your way to the starting line and get ready to run for your lives!" Midnight directed.
The students all made their way to the starting gate as instructed and began to pack themselves into a large room that they found to be quite cramped once everyone was inside.
Peter leaned to Momo, "We should try to push our way towards the front for a better chance at a headstart. We're too close to the back of the crowd." He said as he took a step forward but was stopped by the girl in question who grabbed his shoulder.
"No offense, but I'm not sure that's a good idea. Look, everyone is already trying to shove their way to the front. With how narrow the walls are in here..."
"...The group at the front is going to cause a blockage..." Peter finished her sentence now with a mutual understanding of what they should do. "This is the first obstacle."
"Right. We should keep our distance and spring past the bottlenecked students in the front with our quirks."
"You've been working on your mobility on your own time haven't you?" He accused with an impressed smile.
She grinned, "I might have kept a few things to myself over the week." she winked.
The speaker systems in the starting tunnel boomed with Midnight's voice. "Ready... BEGIN!"
The barriers at the front of the hoard dropped and chaos ensued.
"AND WE'RE OFF TO A RACING START! THE FIRST GAME IS NOW OFFICIALLY UNDERWAY! ERASER HEAD, GIVE US SOME INSIGHT TO WHAT OUR VIEWERS SHOULD PAY ATTENTION TO AS THE COMPETITION BEGINS!!!"
"The starting line." He said unenthusiastically.
The students were packed against each other, everyone pushing, shoving, and elbowing their way to escape out onto the course. Midoriya bounced around the frantic contestants like a pinball but finally was able to hold his footing firmly. 'I get it... They're testing us! They want to see how we get through the gate!' he realized.
Shoto understood immediately what was happening. "This is the first hurdle." He said to himself as he stamped down his right foot causing a sheet of ice to freeze everyone near the front to the ground, effectively erasing a large chunk of competitors' chances of advancing. With those at the front unable to move, he darted his way between them, completely unsympathetic towards their complaints, and was the first student to shoot out of the gate. He continued to freeze the entire pathway as he sprinted ahead, but class A had found their opening.
From their spots near the back, Momo and Peter sprung into action.
Peter shot his webs against the door frames and shot through the doorway like a rocket, sliding skillfully on the ice as he landed and gave chase to his friend in first place. "Thanks for the opening buddy! Hope you don't mind me piggybacking off your hard work!" He said as he began to close the distance between them, his quirk allowing him to run on the ice without fear of slipping.
"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN IT LOOKS LIKE WE HAVE A RACE FOR FIRST PLACE BETWEEN SHOTO TODOROKI AND PETER PARKER! SOMETHING TELLS ME THOSE TWO ARE GONNA BE BATTLING IT OUT OVER THIS ENTIRE TOURNAMENT!!!'
Momo pointed her palm to the ground behind her and created a pole she used to propel herself forward over the group of students still struggling to free themselves from the ice. "Nice trick Todoroki!!" She called out as she continued to extend the pole at a rapid pace before finally launching herself past the son of Endeavor. She landed into a roll and quickly found her feet again as she sprinted ahead with the other two hot on her tail.
"OH MY GOODNESS WHERE DID SHE EVEN COME FROM?! CLASS A'S MOMO YAOYOROZU HAS JUST OVERTAKEN THE TWO FRONT RUNNERS AND HAS CLAIMED FIRST PLACE!!!!"
Her Parents leapt from their seats in pure shock and excitement as they screamed cheers of support.
Todoroki looked at the girl who was now a few steps ahead of him in complete surprise.
"I tried to warn you that everyone's gonna have to look out for her!" Peter called out to his friend who he was catching up to in a hurry.
Todoroki glanced behind him and noticed Peter gaining on him. He decided to stop using his ice in order to increase his speed as explosions were heard from deep in the starting tunnel.
Bakugo, along with more members of class 1A shot out of the gate. The hot head flew through the air with a series of explosions from his hands.
"YOU WONT GET AWAY FROM ME SO EASILY!... YOU ICY HOT BASTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRDDDDD!!!!" Katsuki screamed so loud that his voice nearly broke.
The rest of class A used their quirks to navigate the icy path and were officially part of the chase. The race was on. But near the entrance, a green haired boy struggled to catch up with his classmates..
