How did this happen? Why am I lying here on the ground.. Wait, is that my blood? I cannot tell, my mind is swimming and I can't seem to gain control of myself.
Suddenly several tall figures appeared in front of me making me panic, quickly I tried to get up but pain shot through my body rappelling against my decision to get up, what happened indeed..
-flashback-
A young hedgehog of eight years of age sat quietly on the porch his blue fur and quills shining a bit in the light, today was his birthday and it made him sad for he had no friends or any siblings, no one even cared it was his special day for he lived in the village orphanage not to mention he was the freak of the village.
To make a long story short he was abandoned on the streets when he was just a baby where the orphanage took him in and raised him though he knew he would never get adopted for he was different from the others, everyone in the village were beautiful or handsome maybe even cute fairies that had varied butterfly wings or dragonfly wings, he was quite saddened for he had no wings no powers or anything that could make him special.
With a sigh he stood up and went back inside to finish his daily chores, he cleaned each room as the other children had their daily flight lessons, he was always left to clean and even though he did a good job no one noticed it was him doing all the cleaning and it just made him even more sad but he lost his hope to be adopted or loved everyone here was so stuck up and insensitive it made him sick.
Hearing the other kids entering the room he looked over but not fast enough for they hurried by their purposefully spreading out to hit him, several bunches of wings slapped against his face allowing him only a second before another hit him, they kept hitting till he finally fell down watching them hurry out of the room with taunting laughter, ears flicking back he got to his knees but went considerably pale at the side of the bucket full of water laying on the floor where the others probably dumped it, quickly he got a cloth and tried to dry it up as fast as possible.
"I hope you aren't trying to hide the mess you made."
Jolting in surprise he slowly looked up to see his 'caretaker' to put in a nice term.
"N-no mam.." he stammered, shaking his head.
"Well, clean it up and there will be no supper for you." she said, walking away.
No supper.. It was actually the most light punishment though it seemed he was the only one getting in trouble for everyone favored the so-called sweet children but he knew better the other kids were monsters putting on an act for the adults so they wouldn't get in trouble and they always blamed what they did wrong on him the freak of the village though they kept saying; be grateful for if it weren't for us then you would be nothing but a light snack for the insects.
Though it seemed he was the only true polite one around here but it was probably just another downfall, he got punished a lot and it just added to his life sorrow but he was just lucky the other kids were being generous today for this was the lightest harsh treatment they ever gave him it only happened once a year on his birthday though it never went away completely otherwise it wouldn't feel like.. He guessed home.
Tears coming to his eyes he finished cleaning up and not wanting to be bothered anymore he went to the bedroom where he hurried to the window and taking a breath he opened it before slipping out and climbing up onto the roof, needing some space he went to his usual perch where he laid down and stared up at the evening sky that was slowly darkening signifying night.
"Happy birthday me.." he whispered to himself, tears slipping down his cheeks as he fell fast asleep.
That night he suddenly heard a distant scream making him jump and look around, quickly he jumped to his feet and looked around in fright, heart racing with fear he backed up only to stumble and fall down, he tumbled down off the roof and closing his eyes he braced for the impact that strangely never came, unsure he slowly opened his eyes to see him barely a few inches from the ground.
Confused he looked up but paused seeing two light blue wings flapping above him, startled he jerked to the side and much to his surprise the set of wings copied causing him to hit the wall and fall the rest of the way.
Feeling a bit dizzy he sat up with a groan and looked to see the wings still there flapping slightly like a butterfly, getting even more confused he got to his feet and hurried away as fast as he could till he made it to the small stream right next to the village, quickly he got to his knees and bent over to look at his reflection but he paused finding nothing there, heart sinking a bit he turned around to double check but found nothing, tears staining his eyes he allowed his head to hang low in disappointment.
"Should n-never have g-got-ten m-my hopes up.." he whimpered, leaning over and crying hard, his ears dropping.
Suddenly a loud howl made itself known making him jolt and look around but he froze stiff when he saw a bunch of wolves running into the village destroying everything in their path and chasing after the fairies who tried to escape, eyes widening in fright he quickly got up and backed away as fire came up from the homes that were ruined by the wolves rampage no they weren't just wolves.. Werewolves were attacking!
No.. hunting! Panicked he turned tail and hurried away knowing there wasn't anything he could do, he ran as fast as he could desperately trying to get away, his heart racing in complete fear.
He could hear the triumphant howls of the werewolves and that made him glance back to see some trailing behind him, quickly he turned back to focus only to ram into a root that was ten times his size, shaking his head he pushed himself back up and rubbed his forehead quite lightheaded from the blow.
Slowly he looked up but quickly scrambled backwards seeing the werewolves trotting very close now their sharp teeth dripping with saliva, eyes widening he quickly turned around and clawed at the root wanting so bad to get away but he was a fairy with no wings or powers he was a sitting duck here, so accepting his fate he turned back around and pressed up against the tree as they grew ever nearer till he could feel their hot breath brush against his fur.
Suddenly something snapped inside him and his fur color went a darker blue and two wings appeared but they were reddish and looked more like a dragons, letting out a loud screech he dug his claws into the bark of the tree before pulling his feet up and kicking the werewolf right hard in the nose making it bleed, he then stretched his wings and flew into the air in a burst of speed.
The werewolves jumped up to catch him but when they drew near they got zapped with electricity as he flew high into the air till he burst from top branches to greet the sky for the first time in his life.
He flew hard and fast through the night sky still as terrified and angry as ever but when he finally regained himself he paused and wings flapping a bit he looked around only to find himself in a very clouded place no moonlight to comfort him instead it was dark and eerie, thunder sounded close by making him squeak and cover his ears in pain for he never heard something so loud so close before, the sound could have made his young ears burst.
Feeling something hit him in the back he felt himself get quite heavy, confused he felt his back to find it wet he then realized something in the village the trees kept them safe from terrible storms but here there was no shelter or anything just cloudy skies and loud thunder that made the hoglet squeak in pain also the thing he feared most.. Water.. It was starting to rain and for a young fairy it was dreadfully dangerous to be out in the rain and this was the hardest rain the hoglet had ever seen let alone been in.
Suddenly terrified he started flying around in a panic trying to avoid the rain that kept hitting him making him feel increasingly heavier till his wings could no longer carry him for he had just started to figure them out and now he was plummeting to his death, letting out a screech of terror he fell faster towards the ground but he froze seeing a building there in a very eerie place no that was a very large mansion though he wasn't that close quite yet, trying to get his wings to work he continued to fall but he was only getting closer to the mansion that looked abandoned.
Suddenly he crashed into the window like a small bullet that hit the hall floor and tumbled to where he slammed into the wall and fell onto his stomach with a small groan, the glass had snagged his fur and cut deep into his skin where blood dripped onto the floor, ears flattening against his head he pushed himself up onto his hands and knees where he forced himself to his feet but he felt pain shoot through him and he looked down at his arms to see they were covered in scratches for they took most of the blow that and his head.. His head! Quickly he put a hand to his head but he froze feeling something hot and sticky there making him pale a bit, slowly he pulled his hand back into view and staggered back where he leaned back against the wall in dread for his hand was covered in the crimson color.
"Oh fairy dust.." he muttered, lowering his hand and leaning his head back up against the wall, feeling the blood slip down the sides of his face making him close his eyes in pain.
"My, my what do we have here?"
Startled he opened his eyes and frantically looked around his fear spiking but no one was around, confused and terrified he dug his claws into the wall or tried to anyway, it was quite dim and dark in these halls and it made his heart race terribly though that made his head hurt even more.
Suddenly lightning flashed lighting up the area for a minute but that was just enough to catch a glimpse of a figure standing a foot or two away in mobian steps but for a small fairy it was a long ways away though that did nothing to the size of the creature he caught sight of, feeling his heart skip several beats he shrank back into the shadows of the hall hoping to vanish but the two light green eyes that shown in the dark was watching him intently.
"I'm afraid that won't work." the creature chuckled, walking over making the ground under the hoglet shake a bit like a small earthquake causing him to fall over though that just made him an easy target. "You see I can see in the dark and same with the rest of us."
The hoglet paled at that and quickly tried to run away but he kept falling back down his head pounding like crazy and blood dripping onto the floor.
"Aw, are you hurt?" someone else asked mockingly.
Startled the hoglet stopped and looked up to see another faint figure towering over him, panicked he scrambled back where he turned and hurried back the way he came only to remember the first but there was another beside the first all approaching, gasping in fear he ran to the side where he found a crack that there was a chance he could fit, quickly he dived for it only to have his wings snag.
Desperately he tried to get through but he paused feeling something pin one of his light blue wings to the ground and yes by now they shifted back to normal or to what he guessed was normal being a real fairy was very new to him for he only just found out a few hours ago.
Suddenly he felt himself being yanked out of the crack near the floor and tossed aside where he hit the opposite wall with a sickening crack and fell to the floor in a heap.
And that is where he was now lying limp on the floor with blood pooling out onto the floor as the three figures surrounded him, he tried again to get away but pain was the main thing he could feel other than fear, squeezing his eyes shut he waited patiently to be killed but all he felt was something sharp pick him up by his scruff and lift him high into the air, quivering in fear he opened his eyes again and looked at them to find he was being held by the first in his sharp deadly claws.
"What is it?" the third wondered.
"It is a fairy of course." the second rolled its eyes.
"It is much smaller than other fairies." the first observed, using a different claw to touch the light blue wings that sagged a bit from exhaustion. "It is most likely nothing more than a child."
"He is barely the size of my pinky finger." the fourth chuckled a bit in amusement.
"L-let go." the hoglet snarled, struggling to get free.
"Why it does talk." the second taunted a bit.
"Aren't y-you bright." the hoglet muttered.
"Ha, I like this one." the fourth smiled, reaching to take hold of the hoglet who squeaked in terror.
The fourth took the hoglet before bringing him closer for a better look.
"L-leave me alone.." the hoglet growled, quills bristling as he struggled to get away.
"I almost feel bad for it." the third said before smiling evilly. "Almost."
"Let's have some now." The second stared at the hoglet who shrank back a bit.
"Fine but not too much." The first agreed.
The hoglet then watched in horror as the fourth punctured his skin with his sharp fangs before sucking a bit of his blood, he was then handed back to the first who took some as well and gave him to the third who also drank some of his blood, the hoglet whimpered in pain and curled up a bit as the second took his turn.
"Is it just me or is his blood sweeter than others?" the second asked.
"No, it is." the third said. "And I need some more."
"N-no!" the hoglet cried out as he was passed to the next and the next till he barely had much left at all. "no.." he murmured, staring blankly up at them, tears staining his vision as his heart raced to provide more blood and all that activity made him pass out.
"Should we finish it off?" the fourth asked curiously.
"No, it's the best victim yet." the third shook his head.
"I do want more." the second smiled, licking the remaining blood from his fangs.
"I think we should wait till it makes more." the third suggested.
"Good idea." The fourth agreed.
"Alright then lock it up in a cage, we will be able to have more tomorrow." the second nodded.
"No, I will keep him." the first announced taking the hoglet. "And if any of you have a problem with that I will tear you apart."
"What about our meal?" the fourth growled slightly.
"We will feed when he has enough but for now he is mine." the first hissed, before looking at the small fairy who was now nice and clean from the tongue bath they gave him in order to get more blood. "And if any of you dare touch him without my say so I will make sure you regret it." with that he turned and marched away. "And don't worry we will have some more later."
