What if I told you I'm back?

Goodra twiddled her fingers as she sat on the chairs outside of Arceus' Chamber of Legends. It has been 3 years since Basically Total Pokemon Island had finished and her life had been uneventful since then. Sliggoo even moved out for college so if she had to be honest… things had grown rather stagnant. So when she received an email from Arceus telling her to go to the Hall of Legends, she jumped at the call.

"... this is familiar…" Goodra muttered to herself, remembering the time when she and Klefki had to wait for Arceus before they got to host their first shows. "I wonder how Klefki is doing…"

Just then, a familiar figure came out of Arceus' chambers. They were a Chandelure… most importantly, a former contestant of her show! "Goodra, Arceus is-"

The presence of the Ghost-type made the gooey dragon hastily jump out of her seat, starting to back away awkwardly. "Chandelure? I didn't expect to see you here!"

"Oh! Well, Arceus was the only way I could meet Giratina in person… so to nobody's surprise, I applied!"

"That's… surprising to see from you, if I'm honest." Goodra commented, clearing her throat. "Since when did you start working here?"

"Three years!" Chandelure answered, humming a catchy jingle to herself. "As soon as the show ended, I realized that being a menace to society was too predictable. I need to get my shit together and spread chaos in the best way I can… by promoting the complicated processes of bureaucracy! Yay!"

"Err… I'm glad that you're doing better now? But uhh… can I go in now?"

"Oh, that's what I was supposed to tell you before you so rudely interrupted me." Chandelure exclaimed, tone growing more pointed as she learned closer. "Arceus is out right now!"

"W-what!? But that can't be right! She asked me to come here at this time and date! Why would she be gone when this was her idea!" Goodra pointed out.

Chandelure giggled, rolling her eyes. "Your distress brings me great joy~" She then returned to a deadpan state. Back to working immediately. "Ahem, Arceus told me to pass the message to you instead. You're in."

Goodra gasped in shock, waving her hands around frantically. "I-I can't believe it! I know Basically Total Pokemon Island was kind of a commercial flop so I'm surprised that she even-" She paused, clasping her hands together as she tilted her head to the side. "W-wait… what do you mean by 'You're in' exactly?"

"Basically Total Pokemon Season 2. They gave you guys the greenlight!"

"You guys? Plural?" Goodra queried, confused. The last time she saw Klefki was during the show. They left on amicable terms but since then, she hasn't seen or heard from the keychain. "Is Klefki..?"

"Klefki declined the offer to return!" Chandelure answered, to the mother's disappointment.

"I see… I wonder what happened to him… I guess that means I'm alone this time…"

"Oh no, Arceus had a back-up for Klefki planned since he refused."

"Back… up?" Goodra blinked as she grew even more and more confused. First, her forgotten show was getting a season 2… and now, she was going to be forced to work with a stranger. It looked like she shouldn't have taken the boring life for granted since clearly, things were going to get interesting from here!

Now at a local cafe in Lumiose City, Goodra sighed as she stared at her watch. She was about to meet up with her new co-host today… but somehow, they are currently 2 hours late. Goodra was tempted to just ditch the scene, but she was worried that she would be fired if she just left.

"..." Goodra deadpanned as she stared at her empty glass of juice that she had already drank an hour ago. The ice had already melted by this point and her patience was starting to grow thin. "Where are they..?"

As she was preparing to stand up, a Flapple pulled the seat in front of her with an exasperated expression. Goodra blinked in shock. "Okay… NOW, they decide to show up?!" Forcing a smile, she waved at the new arrival. "You must be..?"

"Yep! I'm Flapple, your new co-host!" Flapple confirmed as she took a seat. "Sorry for being late-"

"You know that if this was a classroom, you'd be marked absent by this point." Goodra pointed out coyly. "Why are you so late?"

"Traffic."

"Are you sure?" Goodra asked, squinting and noticing immediately that the apple dragon was sweating profusely and breathing heavily. "It looks like you ran your way here."

"What gave it away?" Flapple blustered, blushing in embarrassment.

"Everything!" Goodra remarked, smiling teasingly at her new co-host. "So… uhhm… what exactly is your..? How did you get on this show?"

"I'm a casting agent! I casted a few seasons of Total Pokemon! I think I casted for your original season too!" Flapple explained. "I had a bit of a temper tantrum while dealing with an insufferable Pokemon during an interview and Arceus heard… and well, she told me that I was too unstable and that made me a good potential host. I don't know if I should be glad or not…"

"I see! That's very interesting!" Goodra said.

"Not really. I have to be casting for Nihilego's third season but Arceus told me that I can double book myself with this… does she not know the intricacies of the casting process!?" Flapple complained, gritting her teeth. "I have to do background checks, fact checking AND even contact way too many people to make sure that the cast isn't a complete disaster! Honestly, it grew tighter ever since her 2nd season and ugh, my pay hasn't exactly improved either! I swear Nihilego might be a tyrant!"

"I'm… shocked she's hosting another show after how her last one ended." Goodra commented. "Do you think that's safe?"

"I'm not sure! We're in the middle of the Dark Age of Total Pokemon so HONESTLY… I'm tempted to just quit my job but WHOOPS, it's hard to even get a good paying job in this economy!" Flapple pointed out. "I'm not sure if I'm even ready for…" Flapple gulped, shuddering. "... minimum wage."

"That sounds tough."

"N-not everyone is as privileged as you, Goodra! I don't know how you're still living off royalties after your show flopped but I guess good things only happen to those who don't even need them!" Flapple complained, slamming her head on the table with a loud thud.

"Are you okay?" Goodra asked, concerned by the apple's spontaneous behavior.

"I'm fine, I'm fine." Flapple assured, lifting her head off the table, showing a bruise on her forehead to indicate… that NO, she was no fine. Not at all.

"Well… I'm not going to… prod any further. We still have to talk about the show."

"Fine fine…" Flapple said breathily, looking down with a pout. She was clearly holding in her rage but unfortunately for her, she was very transparent.

Goodra arched a brow, wanting to ask more about it… but she had other matters to discuss. "Okay? We have to discuss the name of the season first then."

"Total Pokemon Island (Season 2)?" Flapple suggested. "And yes, the parentheses aren't silent either.

"That sounds too… nondescript."

"Total Pokemon Girls vs Boys?"

"I don't think we'd even have a casting theme… too niche of a concept honestly."

"Total Pokemon All Stars?"

"There's 1 season of my show so… nope!"

"Ugh, then what do you want?!" Flapple asked, face-palming. "The name doesn't matter much. I mean… just name is the Best Total Pokemon Island at this point to clickbait your viewers or something! We all know everyone's going to abbreviate this season to S2 online so let's just move on."

"Uh-huh? What about the location? Did Arceus bring up any potential locations for Season 2 or are we just going to reuse the island from Season 1?" Goodra queried.

"Arceus sent me a location last weekend!" Flapple explained with a weak smile… before it turned to a scowl immediately. "Which BY THE WAY, she also asked me to check it out!? I'm a co-host now apparently and I still have to do grunt work!? Don't we have interns to do this?! What if there's rabid animals on the island?! I swear… Arceus hates me. She's such a hateful bitch!"

"I'll help you check it out!" Goodra offered with a warm smile. "We can do that… next Saturday? Does that sound good?"

Flapple sighed as she gestured for a waiter to take her order. "I guess that's fine…" She then bit her lip. "But, I need to drink… a lot of herbal tea… and champagne and wine and tequila and Pinap Cooladas. Work is too much work!"

"Haha… you're not alone there. I think I'll order a drink too." Goodra laughed nervously as she positioned her elbows on the table and head on her hands. "It's going to be another long season…"

TWO WEEKS LATER…

Pikachu had an anxious expression as he followed after Comfey and Bruxish down the hallway. They apparently had someone to tell him but he already had a bad feeling about the whole situation.

Comfey smirked as they stopped at a poster on the wall, which shows a vibrant advertisement. Bruxish pursed her lips as she read its contents aloud.

"Basically A Total Pokemon Sequel ~ Sign-Ups Are Open! Submit an email to-"

"Isn't that a r-reality TV show?" Pikachu stammered, hugging her backpack as he started hyperventilating. "I don't know if I'd want to sign up."

"I can't sign up for it since you know… Total Pokemon Ultra Vacation… but you? You can sign up, [REDACTED]! Do it for me!" Comfey urged, batting her eyelashes cutely.

"W-what!? You're just asking me because I'm the only guy you can push around, Comf-" Pikachu pointed out, before stomping his foot on the ground. "N-not that I'd let you push me around on this! There's no upside to this. This is an easy decision to make!"

"But-"

"Nope nope nope! You're not going to change my mind THIS time! I'm leaving!" Pikachu stammered as he turned around and immediately broke into a run, leaving the two girls behind.

Bruxish deadpanned as she gave Comfey a look. "I knew he wasn't reliable, hon."

"He'll be back!" Comfey said, giggling. "This won't be the last Total Pokemon season anyways~"

"Hmm… I guess you have a point there~ But what's the deal between ya and these seasons-" Bruxish asked only for Comfey to glare back at her, making her look away. "Ooor… you don't wanna share. I get it, I get it. I'll shut up now."

"How many applications do we have right now, Flapple?" Goodra asked as the duo were stuck in an office, arranging their permits and certifications so that they can use the 'island' for their competition. Flapple had dark circles around her eyes by this point. She had worked herself to the bone, advertising the show and announcing that casting had begun… and surprisingly, there were more sign-ups already. She didn't even had to recruit anyone for the show and worse yet, SHE had to do all of this, since she didn't trust Goodra to have enough experience to get the work done.

"I have 793 applications right now… there's so many people who pretended to have a personality and well… narrowing down the cast hasn't been easy either." Flapple said, slamming her head on the table. "GUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUH…"

"We still have a few months before the first episode is due!" Goodra pointed out, concerned. "You can take it easy for-"

"Take it easy!? Arceus would KILL me if she sees me slacking!" Flapple retorted, clenching a fist. "As if she even does any work. She just tells Legendaries to do the work for her. What can she even do!? Groudon controls the earth. Kyogre controls the waters! Hell, do I even talk about Dialga and Palkia!? I am FLOORED!"

"Flapple… I think you drank too much espresso-"

"YOU THINK!?" Flapple exclaimed before immediately falling unconscious, almost falling off her chair. "..."

"Ookay, that was… interesting." Goodra remarked, laughing nervously. She was missing Klefki more and more each and every day… Flapple was definitely going to be someone interesting to work with, that's for sure.

"You did well, Flapple" Goodra whispered as she draped a blanket over the collapsed apple dragon.

Staring at the calendar on the wall, she tapped her chin. "Two months until this show starts… I won't lie… I'm excited and scared at the same time…"

As for the elephant in the room, Total Pokemon Ultra Revival. I know that's not exactly general knowledge… but there WILL be spoilers in this. It's bare minimum though since this is not in the same series. It will still be updated frequently and these two projects will swap in order of releases! If there are any changes, I'll be sure to communicate them! Episode 11 is already finished so TPUR has officially reached the halfway point. The episode will be posted sometime this month so stay tuned!
