One Simple World

Chapter 2: Simply Following Instructions

Frisk's Point of View:

Oh, come now, get a move on. The sharp voice in the back of my mind shot me awake from where I rested against the rough ground. Tell me, Frisk? Are you always so lazy?

With a sharp gasp, I lifted my head and looked around from the vacant dream I had. My dream was the only safe place I had where I was with my sister. Able to say how sorry I was, able to cry into her chest, smothered in her warmth.

But waking up, that warmth was gone. Cold, and as close to alone as I could be with Chara around, and reality came back. I… my sister didn't make it. She was gone… somewhere I didn't know where. She most likely was…

Oh, my goodness fucking gracious… Chara snipped at me when my thoughts ran back to the night before. Get up already… I don't like being stuck here with you and your mourning thoughts, so get up and move so that I can move on already.

"S-sorry Chara…"

Don't be sorry, do something already.

"O-okay…"

My shaky legs had given out from under me the last time I tried to stand. After whatever bit of resting, I was able to do, that time I could actually stand. I stumbled for the first couple of steps before I was able to bring balance back to myself with the smallest of goals before me.

Getting to the tunnel before me.

Alright then. Chara's frustration finally seemed to slowly ebb away with myself ready to move and assist her with her final request. It will be much simpler if you follow me. I'll lead you through the tunnels and past the puzzles to get your strait to that woman, and the exit. Alright?

Trying not to annoy her by asking about the puzzles, which I'm sure she knew I was thinking about when her face scrunched up, I said a different comment. "R-right… q-quicker would be b-better right?"

She only sighed as she floated just ahead of me, traveling down tunnels and moving in a certain manner. Yes, but I suppose I'll be kind and answer your question. The monster people, quite strange in all honesty, like to use puzzles to confuse the humans who fall down before their death. The monster that took me in subjected me to them daily so that I would know how to solve them and not be harmed by them. Of course… Chara paused as she turned to look back at me. Curled into a ball, though not looking at all nervous as the position would normally be for people, she gave me a haunting grin. That woman preferred to keep me alive so that I could suffer under her hands rather than someone else.

I shivered at the thought, stopping at her words.

Chara groaned loudly before a glare was sent in my direction. Don't stop moving Francine.

I had to grit my teeth at the name I was born with. I hated it so much, and the fact that the ghost girl knew it. A smirk had been on her face until she heard ghost girl in my thoughts. Of course that was when she in turn snarled at me, and I tired to be brave for the first time since I fell.

Angel would want me to be strong. I had to be.

I thought I told you-

"Its Frisk!" My voice bellowed over the cavern at her. "If you don't want me to call you 'ghost girl' then don't call me Francine. Got it?"

Even as I tried to stand tall, I trembled before her. I struggled to hold it back while her eyes stared so deeply and intently at me… I felt like she was trying to shatter my soul with a look alone. Those dead like eyes that held so much darkness in them…

A loud groan like sigh escaped her before she closed her eyes and looked away. Looking away from me, her hands landed on her hips before she floated away from me. Then don't disappoint me, Frisk.

I slowly let out the air trapped in my lungs, doing my best to keep it steady. I had to try and show her I wasn't afraid, even if she knew I was. She could hear every thought, every single little thing in the back of my mind.

She was connected to my soul… I had to get whatever she wanted over with so she would leave me alone…

I still had to find Angel…

Chara ignored me for quite some time as we made our way deeper into the ruins. She solved puzzle after puzzle to keep us on the path she wanted. Even as she did so, I carefully looked around for any sign of Angel. I had no idea how far or close she landed to me. And if there was any sign of her. I had to investigate.

Even if I found her… dead… I still… I still had to find her.

Chara continuedto lead me through the tunnels until we made it to some sort of new area where a large tree stood all by itself. Leaves were all at its base, making me think... Maybe it was fall? It was a really pretty tree with such character in bark and the way it grew. Bright red leaves were on the floor at my feet. They were so pretty...

Just past it I could see a decorative pathway that led past it to a house. It was a tiny little home where I could see smoke coming out of a chimney. The colors on it were cute, white and red with adorable flowers planted all around it that still seemed to be blooming. Yellow in color. They reminded me of the sunflowers that Angel would show me.

Don't focus on it too much. Chara I could hear sigh in the back of my mind. You know it's all a lie. She sets it up like this to lure people like you in.

"I know you've said that..."

But you still don't believeme still. My friggin god...With an aggravatedhuff, the older female floated to the door. Go find out for yourself when she tells you she won't help you get home, and trap you here forever.

I gulped deeply at that before approaching the door. Chara floating just outside of my vision while I went to softly knock on the door.

Honestly, I wasn't very proud of how I tried.

Chara laughed at my attempt. I knew she enjoyed getting under my skin. The vengeful spirit attached to me. It seemed like she was taking a lot of interest in my suffering while attached to her.

Don't worry, it's just as funny as it is irritating.

I never had any privacy from her...

Then get this over with so I can move on.

With irritation in the back of my mind, I knocked on the door a bit louder than before. With my knocking a bit louder that time, I heard movement inside the home. I stepped back a bit from the door then with my heart pounding so loudly I felt my whole body shake from it.

Then the door opened and I saw a large female looking monster step out and that was when I saw curious red eyes looking back at me. Like strawberries, that was the color they looked like. I missed those...

But she was... a large goat woman? Her head was like a goat with tiny horns on the top of her head. Her fur was pure white with long floppy looking ears. A long purple dress was on her that reached all the way to the floor. I could just barely see her bare feet peeking out from below.

"Oh my goodness..." She seemed to gasp as she looked at me. Quickly, she kneeled down before me. "A child? A human child?"

At those words, I couldn't help but back away. Instant fear took over me from my lack of judgement, and I couldn't go back then. "I-I'm s-sorry..."

"Oh goodness! I didn't mean to frighten you, little one. Please, it's alright. I'm sorry."Her hands rose to her face to cover her mouth. It was a gesture I saw Angel use sometimes when she interacted with certain people she would actually talk to.

She sounded nice... but Chara said she was evil?

Damn right I did.

I had to struggle to not look at the girl that followed me. Focusing on the woman before me, she showed me a warm smile while she nearly bent over on herself to show that she wasn't a threat.

"My name is Toriel. What is your's, little one?"

"Um... Frisk...?"

"What a lovely name!" She clapped happily at my response. "Would you like to come in for some food? You look as if you're hungry."

"Um... is... that okay?"

"Of course! Oh and you poor thing... you look as if you could use a bath! Are you hurt? You must have taken a nasty fall when landing here. Are you hurt?"

Just the weight of everything came crashing down. How tired I was, how hurt I was, how lonely I was.

"M-my sister..."

The woman blinked at me. "I'm sorry?"

I wanted Angel... I wanted my sister...

"A-angel... m-my sister... w-we fell... I-I d-don't know... w-where..."

I sobbed against my will to try and tell this woman of my struggles. Words wouldn't escape me any longer as my wails began. I could barely see the woman gasp and quickly reach out to grab me up in a hug.

Nestled in warm, fluffy arms, I was quickly pulled inside while hushed whispers of kindnesswere given to me.

I was still so tired from everything... I hadn't gotten proper sleep when Chara forced me to move from where I'd fallen. I simply couldn't resist letting the woman take me into her home and letting her care for me.

I went numb as I was given a bath, soft clothes were given to me. She tried to give me food, but I was still too numb from it all. The last thing I remembered was being laid in her arms while a book was read to me. I cried into her arms, even as she tried to sooth me.

I didn't even remember falling asleep.

Witch's Note:

Oh the pain… watching Frisk go through so much on her own is just heart wrenching as we sit here and watch, isn't it folks? Man is it frustrating. And now we have met Toriel as she took care of a fear filled Frisk who didn't know what to do as her sister was gone and she was all alone with a deathly spirit who wants her dead… for some reason…

Oh boy and here we go again! I'm so excited that now I get to talk to you all again! So many text from the people who have been with us for so long! Well now, we have a job to do! And its talking to you all!

Mystic Girl: We get to respond to reviews again?!

Me: Of course we do! So let's get started!

MysticBoywastaken: Its great to see you again, and I know you've been looking forward to this the longest of us all. Chara is now involved with our story! You have to tell us what's going through your mind and heart right now. We really would love to know. And I hope this story lives up to your expectations.

Thechaosmaster: My goodness is it great to see you and Red again! I see you two are just as busy as ever in the new tower. Hope its to your liking! The office is always available for you whenever you want or need.

But this spooky season just seemed like the perfect opportunity for what was next on our radar, so I made sure to delay its posting for the appropriate season. Spooky music, creeps and crawls, and all the things that make us feel horrid at night. Its lovely. And I'm rather excited to see how you two respond as the series keeps going onward. What will your opinion be to what I have in store for you all? Will it seem believable? Is it a true genocide run? Or will there be bumps, turns, and learning curves that change the direction? Who knows?

But it would be lovely to see your story continue. No pressure. Make sure your happy with it.

Shadow8Phantom: Ah Shadow, hardly feels like it's been so long since we've been chatting it up out of our normal weekly updates with your plots and ideas. But I love when you analyze everything. Its… I can't tell you how much of a thrill it gives me to sit and read, and see you digest everything and give me a detailed report of the happenings and most likely reasons for everything. Its incredible.

Perhaps I did miss a few key elements that could have been implemented to tie in more olden lore of the original Undertale universe with the 'crybaby' comment and so forth. Yet, in the same moment, I didn't feel it fit. But that's more of a personal preference and my objective vision of Chara. As well there is far more of us to see of her temperament and the two arguing and dealing with each other as the story goes on. I'm eager to see what you think as each chapter is presented and a new problem, or solution, is developed.

midnightwreken: Why hello there! A new reviewer! Its lovely to meet you! I'm sure you're already aware, but I'm Halloween Witch, and my best friend and I, Mystic Girl, are the authors' of this story and the series you've read. Its always lovely to meet a new person who enjoys the story. And your more then welcome to leave your comments, thoughts, concerns and the like in each review, we'd love to hear more from you if you're willing. I hope you continue to like the series!

And here we are! At the end of chapter two out of twenty. The shortest story I think we'll have. Even less then Underground Sprits!

Mystic Girl: That's right! It was like only 22 chapters, right?

Me: That's exactly right. Previously our shortest one. Our first book, Two Worlds, Two Souls, was 92, and our most recent of One World, Many Souls was 70. This one is entirely written, and done, and there will be no wait time on this one for anyone to wait.

Mystic Girl: And when do we talk about what you put on your profile? Huh? Don't think I didn't see that!

Me: (I only shrug.) When I feel like it.

Mystic Girl: Seriously? Your going to leave them hanging, when you wrote on your profile, under this series, FINAL BOOK!?

Me: Yep.

Mystic Girl: Oh my God… I think my brain is going to explode.

Me: That's okay, the next chapter may do you in too.

Mystic Girl: Halloween!?

Me: And that's all the time we have, love you all and see you next week folks!

Mystic Girl: Excuse you-

Halloween Witch and Mystic Girl
