Pandimala: *glances around* You are building up to something.
Authoress: *nods* I am. But, given the stress at work, it will take time to reach I fear.
Knockout: I don't know, you got this out fairly quickly.
Authoress: True, but I know better than to expect that. But we will see.
Chapter 12: War Council
Fanzone's 1st P.O.V.
It was almost time. You had to be a certified moron not to feel the tension that was in the air. With that last attack against the base, everyone had been waiting for the word. We were hopefully going to be striking back at MECH. This cat-and-mouse game that MECH had been playing with us would win. And with our allies, we would be the victorious ones in this conflict. MECH was going to cause damage, that was for sure. And maybe if they had been allowed to build their resources for a few years, they would have been a real threat to the bots, an enemy for them to fear.
However, I had worked alongside Pandimala and the others since their arrival here through that bridge, and I had seen the determination in their optics. They were ready to go to war against MECH if that was what it took to bring them down. Most of them were bots that had just gone through a war that had lasted billions of years, and it was evident from the stories that they told that they had been glad for the fighting to be done. They had come to Earth to avoid fighting with their government over the treatment of Paul, but they were prepped to fight if need be.
There were times that I saw the want to attack MECH directly in their optics. While the ones that had been on Earth before had other reasons to want MECH gone, the ones who were new to Earth held the same look. And I knew that those thoughts were helped by what MECH did to those five. I was sure that the only reason that they hadn't already obliterated MECH was because they respected our government and were making sure that we were in control on our planet.
They had better manners than half of the damn government.
Shaking my head out of those thoughts, I focused as I walked into the warehouse where I was asked to arrive. To my surprise, the only 'humans' in the room were myself, Paul, General Bryce, and Captain Lennox. What the hell? I thought this was a mission prep meeting. But, with so few humans in attendance, I realized this would be much more than that.
"Why are we the only ones here?" I asked any of them who wanted to answer me.
Paul, to my surprise, beat the others in answering me. "Because this is the core group of humans the bots trust right now. We will be discussing our plans to ensure that MECH fails and that we prevent them from rising ever again."
But there were more people cleared than what were here. "This is all?"
General Bryce nodded. "Yes. From what we have found, all of the other teams have agents of MECH in them. We just haven't narrowed down who they are in each squad. With your squads cleared, you two will be able to help us run point on the upcoming missions while keeping an eye on the other squads."
All of the other squads had infiltrators? Hell, I didn't realize it was that bad. I knew that two of the teams had moles, but for all of them outside of ours? MECH had dug deep into our ranks. When this investigation started, I thought we would find a handful of outliers who didn't align with what was expected. However, from the few humans at the meeting, it was easy to see that their infestation of our ranks ran deep. Hell, none of the higher command outside of General Bryce was here, so that said they had infiltrated even the highest ranks here at the base.
That didn't even include the MECH agents at other bases. I knew we had been slowly working on clearing them out as they committed other crimes, but I had to hope they weren't as inundated with MECH agents as we were. Since we were the center of advanced technology, given our contact with the bots, we would be the best place for MECH to gain any sort of advantage.
Of course, that made us prime targets for infiltration. Now that I thought about this more, I saw that more humans were involved than they might have initially figured.
"So, this is some secret meeting. I'm guessing we will be telling our squads about this?" Hey, if I could tell my guys later, I would. But I wanted to make sure that I had the okay to do that first.
But, as I figured would happen, Paul shook his head. "No. While your teams have been cleared, we must continue acting normally around the ones with MECH infiltrators. If they catch wind of our suspicions, they might get out before we get any information. This meeting and the discussed information must stay between us here."
I took a second to glance at the bots in the room, and only then did I realize that there were very few bots in here as well—Pandimala, of course, Wheeljack, Scavenger, and the drone known as Nemo. From what I found out, that drone had been studying with Prowl to learn more about intelligence work. Given his presence here, he must be doing better than I thought. From what I heard this morning, Vox was on one of the scouting missions to find MECH's bases, or I was sure he would be here too. If my guess was correct, the bots present were either intelligence bots or they were vital in training the new bots. Or, they were on missions.
That meant that we were still waiting on,
"I'm sorry we kept you all waiting." Glancing at the entrance to the warehouse, I was glad I was correct when I saw Prowl, who spoke, walk in with Soundwave. Yep, they were the last ones we needed to start this meeting. "I would have liked to wait for Vox to return before we had this council, but new evidence has increased our need for immediate action."
Pandimala's 1st P.O.V.
None of this felt right. Prometheus was not acting like we thought he would, and that was making all of us nervous. But we had to keep moving forward. Despite the different attitudes I had heard among the soldiers here at the base, I wasn't sure we could take on MECH even if we launched a full-scale assault against them. MECH was too organized. We needed to find out where they had hooks in our alliance before we could fight against them.
Or as many hooks as we possibly could. The recent attack told us that MECH might just force our servos, and we had to be prepared for that, regardless of our plans. We were always hoping for more time. While moving forward in their training, the five still weren't at the level we wanted them to be. Lunarblaze and Freelancer were the only two who I felt could hold their own in a fight—the only ones.
Arzen was getting there, but I hadn't been able to watch one of his training sessions in a while, given other issues. Whenever I had time to check in on the mech, Romanus started up trouble that I had to go and help put down. Of course, with how the mech's training had been slowing lately, I should have expected him to act up. Out of all of the bots at the base, only three were willing to work with him. His continued anger and resentment toward any bot that hadn't been an Autobot was only growing worse. Now, even the Autobots weren't safe from his anger.
Scattershot, who had been working with him, had made a comment during one of his training sessions about having Cohrada, who wasn't even online during the fighting, come in and work with the mech. While Cohrada was young, the predacon was well adjusted to his chassis and had been helping Morphia and Freelancer with some of the dysphorias they still felt at times. That caused a long rant from Romanus that ended up with the young mech taking a few swings at the Autobot. That, coupled with other incidents in the past, had been Scattershot's last straw. Now, only Springer, Inferno, and Warpath would work with the mech. Of those three, Inferno was already on the verge of leaving that list.
With the pressure from MECH rising, Romanus's actions would start showing their consequences as fewer bots would train with him.
"We intercepted a message from one of the MECH agents here at the base that was received by Prometheus," Soundwave took over. "He is making plans to attack within the next few solars. Teams are already on standby to intercept should he attack before we strike at him. We will make sure that MECH is eliminated. No more will suffer the same fate as Arzen and the others."
Prowl then took over. "And those five will not be left undefended. Over the course of our attacks against MECH, each of them will have two guards assigned to watch over them. In the case of an evacuation, coordinates have been preplanned for each of them. These coordinates will be revealed only when our strikes begin to lessen the odds of MECH discovering them. While we understand that this will diminish our attacking power against MECH, we must ensure that MECH cannot achieve their goals. Allowing them to retrieve the five would be allowing just that."
From what I had been told since I was one of the guards assigned to Arzen, those coordinates would be widespread from each other. However, even I didn't know exactly where each newspark would end up. Honestly, I didn't even know who else would guard Arzen with me. That was how tight we were trying to keep this information.
Of course, there was one part of the plan that had both Paul and me worried. Since we were trying to keep my history away from MECH, we had to act as if I was a regular bot and not a newspark like Arzen and the others. That meant that, even though I could potentially be a high-value target for Prometheus should he learn of my past, I had to move forward without any extra protection. Until we learned otherwise, the protection and safety of the other five were more important. And, while I agreed with that one hundred percent, I did have enough sense of processor to understand the risks that I was taking.
'Sure, now you just have to remember to save yourself as well if you get into trouble,'
The attitude from the peanut gallery was not needed. 'I'll be fine unless MECH forces our servos. Plus, Paul said he has some of the highest protections on my personnel file, so even if Prometheus got it in his raid, it would be months, at the bare minimum, before the man found out anything about me that would put my safety in jeopardy.'
There was silence from Plena Teo for a few clicks. 'There is more than one way to get information on a bot, femme. I'm not saying that you two are wrong, but you need to remember that moving forward.'
He was right, but I couldn't respond to him as General Bryce spoke up. "On the human side, we are ready to start closing in on the traitors inside our base. Once we take out a few of their local strongholds, hopefully cutting off their escape paths, we will close in on the operatives that have been here at the base. At that point, we will hopefully learn the location of their headquarters. From there, we will launch a decisive attack combining the efforts of you bots with the might of the US military complex to finally see MECH wiped out for good."
This would be it. However, given my recent thoughts, I felt one more point needed to be brought up. "And don't forget," They all turned to me as I spoke. "Keep information to yourselves as much as you can. Until we eliminate MECH, we can't risk them learning information they already know." That was especially true since Team Lambda, the team that Knockout was helping, had a confirmed MECH operative on it.
Until we struck against MECH, we had to keep constant vigilance, or we would fall.
Paul's 1st P.O.V.
I felt nervous as I was driven to my headquarters. To help in our efforts, there were a few projects that I wanted to check on personally. These projects would greatly benefit both the bots and humans working with us in our efforts to stop MECH. We had to be ready, which meant that all servos and hands needed to be on deck. And, given that I was one of the largest military contractors in the country, that meant utilizing every single advantage that I could bring to the front.
Of course, this was not just a casual visit. My security team also found out what files Prometheus had been able to take with him, and that would give me a clearer glance at what knowledge he might have and what he could have planned. While I knew that he had my personnel files, I wasn't too worried about them. I had a pretty smart group of people working under me, and they would want their information protected with the very best that could be offered.
When I suddenly felt drowsy, I realized I was being called to a different meeting. Thankfully, I had my own escort to my headquarters, which included Hotshot driving me. "Hey, Hotshot, I'm going to take a quick nap. Wake me up when we arrive."
The young mech was quick to respond. "Yeah, or if we run into any trouble. Get some rest." He was highly reminiscent of his Transformers Animated version, so the energy behind his response could be taken as inexperience coming through. However, I knew his service record and that he could hold his own in a fight. Plus, despite the energy behind his vocals, he had a level helm on his shoulders. "I'll let Nemo know." Nemo, one of the previous drones, was my other escort. It was quite scary how authoritative the drone was, and I could see him taking command roles if he was given the opportunity.
"Thank you," I responded to the mech before I leaned my helm back and allowed my consciousness to drift away.
When I reopened my eyes, I found myself standing in my mindscape. It had been a long time since I had conferred with my 'executives', and I was curious about what was happening.
"Primus, I am glad we could reach you at a good time," I focused as Prima walked up to me, followed by Micronus and Solus. He had a concerned look on his faceplate, and that look never led to anything good. "Your current situation is more complicated than you know."
Which situation was he talking about? While I was worried about MECH, I knew a few problems could be building. Since I had been 'kidnapped' from Cybertron, I knew I would eventually be hunted down to be 'returned' one solar. But they shouldn't be hunting me yet. We should have a few stellars, at the minimum, before Cybertron got their act together. Not only that but since every other deity in existence drew their origins from myself and Unicron, anything that could be affecting them could come back to affect me. If I was affected by that issue at the wrong time, that could bring us even more trouble. "Which situation?"
Micronus shook his helm in frustration before he spoke. "It has to do with your sudden evacuation from Cybertron." Slag, I was afraid of that. "While the Council has been keeping your disappearance silent, they are working on tracking you down."
Frag it all to the Pit! "How much time do we have?" I was now hoping for a stellar.
To my surprise, Solus jumped in, making a calming gesture as she did. "You still have quite a few stellars to gather the necessary allies. At least, on the end of facing anybot from Cybertron." She then shot Prima and Micronus a light glare. "I told them not to panic you like this, but does anybot ever listen to me? The Council can't risk any information getting to the public right now about you being gone. So, their bounty for your safe return is only available to be seen off-world and fairly far off-world. However, while that does give you time, another problem could join in with this one, given the Council's strategy. I'm sure you have felt the disturbance that has been happening among the deities that are involved with the Galactic Alliance?"
I had, though I couldn't afford to give them much thought now, given my current situation here on Earth with MECH. "I have. They are struggling with their creations, though I am unsure why."
"Inner turmoils and manipulations in the Alliance have caused it to enter a cold war state. There is no physical fighting, but every planet is on edge against the other. Even the subordinate planets of member planets are on edge with each other. So, bots there are looking for ways to stay productive without setting off that powder keg." Prima had a solemn look on his faceplate as he explained that.
Now, I was sure I could see where they were going with this. "Those looking for ways to stay productive might pick up this bounty. There are plenty of deities that would even join the search for me. If they believe I am in distress, multiple deities could join in their search for me. However, if something were to happen to those deities searching for me, that could set off a true war in the Alliance."
"And if they manage to find you and believe that you have been taken against your will, any retaliation you could bring against them to protect yourself would turn the Alliance against you. Losing them as an ally, as fractured as they are right now, would be a great loss in your defense against Cybertron for when they eventually find you," Micronus picked up.
This was a problem. However, it was one I would have to wait to take care of unfortunately. "Since it is not an immediate issue, I will have to wait until after MECH is dealt with before proceeding. Once they are removed, I will bring this up to Pandimala and the others." I then smiled at them. "Thank you for bringing this to my attention."
Solus smiled at that. "You are welcome. And I'm glad to see that spending time with Pandimala and the others has taught you to express yourself more."
It was hard to resist the temptation to roll my eyes, but I barely managed. "I hope to contact you all again soon. Until next we meet, keep us in your thoughts." As the three said their goodbyes, I allowed my consciousness to fade.
My eyes took a second to adjust as Hotshot's alt mode slowed down. I didn't realize we were so close to my headquarters when I drifted off for that meeting. "I'm awake," I told the mech so he didn't think he had to wake me.
"Good thing. Your security looks on edge, and I'd rather not go back to base with bullet holes in me. Joe threatened to turn me into a teapot if I returned from something again with more damage." I couldn't help but chuckle at the dread in Hotshot's vocals. Joe had really cemented himself as a respectable medic if this was how bots reacted.
Thankfully, our convoy was able to pass through security without any issues, and I was soon dropped off at the main entrance. "I'll call when I'm ready to go," I informed the bot before I walked into said building.
While the atmosphere inside still felt welcoming, as I liked it, there was also an underlying air of nervousness. Honestly, I couldn't blame them. While Prometheus had attacked my headquarters before, that last attack was the worst he had ever done. "Stephanie, do I have any messages waiting?"
The receptionist shook her head. "No, sir. Given recent events, your current contracts understand that you should be given time to assess what has happened." AKA she told those who called to wait until after the mess we were dealing with was over. "However, Professor Sumdac is waiting to speak with you about the armor he and his intern have been developing."
Perfect. "That is one of the reasons I am here today. I'll go and see them immediately. Also, if you could get Fred and Jonah to meet me there, I can learn about all we lost in the breach while I'm meeting with Isaac."
"Of course, sir," She responded to me.
"Thank you." Once that was said, I moved toward the elevator and started to go down to the research and development sector of the building. That armor was going to revolutionize protection on the front lines, and given our current fighting with MECH, it would be essential to have it ready as soon as possible.
Honestly, I was in full support when Isaac brought forward his intern's idea. Using technology that the bots left behind during their last stay, we would synthesize polymers from the base structure of the metal and the responsiveness that the technology had and combine them into an armor that was light and durable. Pandimala would call it a knockoff Power Ranger outfit based on how it looked in the last drawings.
But this was much more real.
Once the doors opened, I smiled when I saw Sumdac waiting there. Perfect. I would see how the armor was progressing, even testing it if I felt it was far enough, and hopefully, we would have it before MECH made their next move. Given what I learned from the Primes, I had more worries about to arrive on Earth's doorstep, and this problem needed to be taken care of as soon as possible. This armor would help that immensely.
Arzen's 1st P.O.V.
I jumped as I heard a clatter of metal hit the floor. It took my processor a click to realize that I must have accidentally bumped into it when I turned. I needed to be more careful. Everybot was on edge, and I didn't want to cause everybot any more worries by being afraid of my shadow. I wanted to be able to help protect everyone when MECH did attack.
Well, attack again.
Honestly, that was probably the reason why I was so nervous. That mech had been able to sneak right into Lunarblaze's warehouse and had almost taken her. If he had come into mine, I wasn't sure I would have been able to hold him off for help to arrive. From what she said when we last talked, the mech hadn't said a word when he came in, and she thought it was Wheeljack testing her reflexes. But, when she turned, she barely stepped away from the mech in time.
Of course, Romanus had taken the chance to say she had let her guard down too much by being trained by the bots who weren't Autobots. This prejudice that he had against the other bots was hurting him. I saw it during one of the few joint training sessions we had with each other. Thankfully, there had been enough Autobots to work with all of us, barely, so Romanus hadn't been angry about that.
But, when he started going through the obstacle course with us, it was obvious he wasn't as attuned with his chassis as we were. His mom…no, the word was carrier. His carrier was even more relaxed with her chassis than he was. Morphia's chassis type, from what Soundwave told me later, should have made that particular obstacle course difficult for her, given her rotors. The fact that she had an easier time than Romanus said he was behind. From what Soundwave noted, he and Freelancer, given the time they were training, should have had the same difficulty going through. However, Freelancer had been a good distance ahead of the mech.
Romanus had not been happy to see that he was so far behind in his training. The fit he threw, saying that the Decepticons were influencing the Autobots to stunt his training, was the final straw for Cliffjumper and Brawn. After that solar, they refused to work with Romanus.
I was honestly grateful for all the training I had been receiving. And it didn't matter who it was from. While the Autobots who had worked with me had some neat tricks that they taught me, I wouldn't be near as far as I was without the help of the neutrals and Decepticons here at base. Honestly, I had Skywarp and Soundwave to thank. They worked so much with me and were so patient that I wanted to return the favor one solar. I wanted to be an asset to the team here instead of a hindrance. That was why I was going to keep training. I wanted to learn everything that I could, and they would be able to help me.
"What are you doing?"
A shriek escaped from my vocals when Skywarp's vocals came from behind me. Turning, I felt relieved when I saw the mech along with Thundercracker. "Sorry, Arzen, I thought you heard us come in."
I smiled at Thundercracker and nodded. "It's alright. I've…just been jumpy lately."
"I'd say," Skywarp laughed before sitting on the ledge. "Had to be a new record. I've never seen a bot jump so high." I felt slightly embarrassed as Skywarp pointed that out. I honestly didn't mean to jump that high.
Thwack!
"That's enough, Skywarp," Thundercracker shot back at the mech with a helmslap. He then glanced at me. "Despite Skywarp's attitude during this, we do understand how you are feeling." He then motioned me to sit, which I did, before he sat and continued talking. "When Starscream first disowned us, we faced backlash fom the Decepticons. He was the second in command, and since he disowned us, there were bots that thought we were traitors."
"Kinda funny, honestly," I glanced at Skywarp as he chimed in. The normal carefree attitude he usually had in his vocals was absent as he continued. "'Cracker and I had to fight off a lot of ambushes those first few hundred stellars. There was even a time when Vos from the DJD caught up to us."
While I wasn't sure who Vos was, he sounded like bad news. "Who is that?"
Both seemed to freeze at my question, and I saw fear easily in their optics. "Vos is one of the members of the Decepticon Justice Division, or the DJD for short. I'm not sure if you are ready for that kind of lesson yet, Arzen, but I'm sure it will come eventually. Just know that running into any of the members of the DJD will bring about pain. If you are in their sights, it will be your offlining."
I wasn't sure why, but I felt my spark grow old when I heard his description of them. Worse, this Vos bot was only one of a group of bots like this.
"Vos, alt mode, sniper rifle, known to torture his victims by removing his faceplate, which is lined with spikes and other various sharp ends, before forcing it on his target's own faceplate." We all jumped as Soundwave walked in, that information projecting from his speakers in Megatron's vocals with a corresponding picture. The mech looked the size of Soundwave but had orangish-red optics.
In those optics, I saw a bot who would take no prisoners.
Thundercracker took a step toward Soundwave. "I'm not sure if it is wise to teach Arzen about the DJD yet. We are only bringing them up to let Arzen know it's okay to be on edge when you know that some being is after you."
Soundwave, in turn, tilted his helm toward Thundercracker before he shook his helm. "If we want Arzen to truly understand that it is alright to be on edge, then he should understand your example. I know he can handle it."
I wasn't one hundred percent sure of that, but if Soundwave thought I could handle this information, then I was sure I could…maybe. "Thanks. I think I can picture why him finding you all would be bad." But, thinking of this mech, and the group he was a part of, I had a terrifying thought. "What will they do now that Megatron has dissolved the Decepticons?." While Megatron said that the Decepticons were no more, many, including the ones here, still identified as such.
What would a group of violent zealots do when they found out?
All three of them tensed at my question, and at least Skywarp and Thundercracker were looking like they were panicking. Slag, I didn't mean to cause that. Before I could apologize, Soundwave spoke. "We will have to be on guard. Training, once MECH is taken care of, will increase. This is not a threat we have been preparing you for, yet as you may be thinking it will more than likely come. That training will include learning more of the other members of the DJD and what they can do." He then motioned to me. "Back to where this started, it is alright to be on edge. Thundercracker, tell him what happened."
The seeker glanced at Soundwave for a few nanos before he let out a vent. "Vos was able to capture the two of us and put us through his brand of torture. However, before that torture could break us, Vos entertained Skywarp's idea of a patch proving our loyalty. It was…painful. But, the patch proved to the mech that we were still loyal to Megatron and his cause. We had just broken ties with Starscream."
"Though he still left us a wreck, the fact that he left us online and sane told us that we were removed from the List, which is the list of traitors they keep to hunt down," Skywarp added on. "But, it took us time to realize that. We were looking over our shoulders for the DJD for stellars before we realized that they weren't going to be coming for us anytime soon." Thankfully, he then smiled again. I didn't realize until now how calming Skywarp's normal attitude was. "So don't worry about jumping a little. That just means that you are going to be ready for what is coming." He then paused before he glanced at Soundwave. "What are you doing in here anyway? I thought you were at that big war council that you all organized."
That was right. With all of what we were talking about, I forgot the reason Soundwave wasn't giving me lessons in the first place. "How did it go?" I asked my trainer.
Soundwave glanced between the three of us for a nano. "We are preparing to fight. Part of our forces will focus on routing out MECH installations, and the rest will remain behind to watch out for Arzen and the others. Paul will be having tw guards, as will the five of you. Should an attack happen here, evacuation plans are already set to send the five of you away."
"I'm sure Lunarblaze will be thrilled with that," Skywarp laughed.
He wasn't wrong. Lunarblaze was going to be frustrated when she learned that, if an attack came, we were going to be evacuated. But, I was relieved. Despite the training I was getting from Soundwave and the others, I wasn't sure if I could last very long against MECH's soldiers. From what I heard happened with Lunarblaze, the MECH bot would have overpowered her if Pandimala and Soundwave hadn't arrived when they did. She was the most ahead in our training, from what the regular reports said, and if she could barely defend herself, then I was nowhere close. Escaping would be our best option.
For now, the best we could do was keep training and be ready to take action. Like the others said, it was alright to be on edge when you knew that you were being hunted. And that was what was happening right now. While MECH was not this Vos bot, they were specifically hunting me and the others. I couldn't let them take me. A shiver traveled through my chassis when I thought about what they did. The pain was almost unbearable thinking about even now.
No, we would be ready.
We would survive.
Arzen: *shivers* I'm not sure who to be more scared of: MECH or the DJD.
Skywarp: *pops in* Definitely the DJD. But, since you haven't met any of them, and hopefully you never will, let's focus on MECH. *shivers* Trust me, the DJD is a group you don't want to meet.
Knockout: *shivers* You don't want them even to know you exist. Trust me, I wish that they didn't know I did.
Pandimala: *nods* While I haven't met them, I know enough about them to know that we need to be prepared, just in case. For now, though, we must focus on eliminating MECH.
AN: And here is the next chapter! We have a war council gather to discuss what will happen once they start moving against MECH. And don't worry, for all of you action enthusiasts, plenty to come in the chapters ahead. For now, though, we get a plan along with different views. While Fanzone thinks that the bots could have this in the bag if they weren't being respectful, Pandimala knows that they would be struggling against MECH regardless.
Of course, we then get Paul meeting with a few of the Primes. The situations building in the cosmos have him worried about other problems rising. Better to be rid of MECH immediately so they don't have to worry about them along with everything else.
And speaking of problems coming up, a lesson to Raf about being on edge, and why that can be a good thing, reveals a new problem that may rear its ugly helm. The DJD is a threat that none of them realized could be a reality, and with Megatron having 'dissolved' the Decepticons, there is theoretically no one controlling the urges those bots would have. But, don't worry. If we do see them, it won't be for a while. Also, I will not be adding The Pet. He will not exist in my dimensions unless I expressly say he does. If I don't mention him, then he is not there.
And that is all I will say for now so I don't ruin anything. Here are the next chapter titles to keep you all happy.
Chapter 13: A Battle on Two Fronts
Chapter 14: Monster in the Machine
Chapter 15:...(You will find out next time!)
