Nagato Uzumaki
Karin Uzumaki

The funeral was small, and it was held within 2 days of the yokai who escaped the Uzumaki estate ariving to Kuoh. Since there weren't any bodies to bury or cremate, it was an easy matter to get the funeral going. It helped that Nagato's funeral preparations had already been settled before his death, and adding Karin onto that added just a little more difficulty.

'Oh Naruto.' Akeno looked at his back.

Naruto was standing directly in front of the grave, in front of everyone with the Origami Tsugumogami standing at one side, and the Bakeneko at the other. Nagato's personal guardian Konan, and Naruto's personal guardian Himari. Konan placed her hand on Naruto for emotional support, and she seemed to take some level of comfort in him being next to her. She wasn't crying, or bawling her eyes out. Nagato's death had been an expected thing to happen soon, but this just so happened to speed it up.

There was a deep sadness, but also pride, in her eyes.

"Nagato hated Yokai all his life, to him, yokai were impure, unclean creatures. He never changed that viewpoint, but even with his hatred, he viewed those of us who pledged ourselves to the Uzumaki name as different, better than our brethren. His last act of kindness was allowing us to escape." Konan spoke to those behind them. Akeno wasn't a yokai, but she knew Nagato thanks to the times she went to the Uzumaki estate as a child with her mother. Nagato had always been a kind man to her, and treated her as part of the family.

Her most fond memories were spent at the Uzumaki estate, partly for that reason.

Akeno recognized most of the yokai who were attending the funeral, even though they were all in their human forms, and thus didn't look like the yokai she grew up with. The same could be said about Himari though, who she only saw as a white cat when she was younger.

Then there was Shizuku, standing at the back of the funeral, watching Naruto.

'The Uzumaki seem to really have been a different breed. This man died for yokai he hated.' Shizuku looked at Naruto, and she couldn't help but wonder if the kindness inside of him that didn't want to hurt others, but truly etched into his blood.

The funeral went on for several hours.

Each yokai approached Nagato's only living relative, and would tell him stories about Nagato from before Naruto was born. Naruto, who hadn't ever said a word through out the entire funeral, just remained stone faced through the entire thing. He stared at the names on the gravestone, seemingly he wasn't listening to them when they spoke. The expressive Naruto couldn't be read, when usually his emotions were easy for anyone to read plain as day.

Naruto took a deep breath when Akeno approached.

"... I'm sorry for your loss." Akeno didn't have a story to share, and she didn't know what she should say. She had kept her words short for that purpose.

The funeral ended when Naruto was the last person standing in front of the gravestone.

His fist slowly gripped tighter, before he released it and walked away.

-The Next Day-

"We're sorry for the inconvenience we're placing on you. Thank you for allowing us without a home to stay with you." Konan bowed her head to Rias. Even though Konan couldn't stand the devil species for the role they played in the destruction of the Demon Slayer family her bloodline originally served, the kindness that Rias had shown her was worthy of praise and thanks.

"It's no trouble, my family almost never uses that mansion anymore. You are all free to stay there as long as you like." Rias had a mansion in the mountains that she almost never used. When the homeless yokai approached her to tell her they were staying in her territory, she offered it to them rather freely. It wasn't like Naruto had much room to allow anyone to stay with him. "... how is the wolf one doing?" Rias asked.

"Ginko is depressed, but she will recover. Once Master Naruto takes up his role as the Head of the family, the Uzumaki clan will be revived, and we can all rest easier knowing Master Nagato's legacy will shine brightly." Konan spoke with certainty. "Did... Master Naruto come to school today, I would like to speak with him, but Himari said he wasn't home when I checked with her." Konan asked after a moment.

Rias looked at Akeno.

"I'm in the same class as you, but I didn't see him during lunch." Akeno was a year older than Naruto, and wouldn't know if he came to class. She just knew she didn't see him at lunch. She looked at Yuuto though.

"He wasn't in class."

-With Naruto-

"Young Master... it isn't healthy to stay in bed all day, at least eat the meal the snake cooked."

"I don't have an appetite right now." Naruto responded with his back turned to Himari. He had taken the day off school so that he could sort out his emotions. The food that Shizuku cooked smelled amazing, but he just didn't have the ability to eat anything.

His feelings towards Karin were simple.

He was sad that she died.

His feelings towards Nagato were so complicated that he didn't know if he was relieved he was gone, sad he was gone, or some combination or so many other emotions. He felt like he was relieved Nagato was gone, but sad he was gone, and guilty that he was relieved, and angry with himself for feeling guilty, but also angry with himself for feeling relieved. There was a swirling storm of emotions inside of him that raged like a tornado, spinning every which way. He just didn't know what was the right emotion to feel.

Nagato had traumatized him as a child.
Nagato has also shown him love.

Nagato was a powerful figure that commanded respect, but he had also been gentle at times. It was the conflicting Nagatos in his memories that made it so hard for him to know if he loved or hated the man. Nagato's had been a hateful man, but also a loving man. He used others like tools to further his goals, but he still protected those tools with his life if it was needed.

"Onto the more pressing matter, will you take revenge you know?" Shizuku looked into his room.

"Of course he will, those yokai need to die!" Himari answered for Naruto. He sat up and actually looked towards them. It was their first time seeing his eyes since the funeral, because the second he got back to the apartment he hadn't looked at any of them.

There it was.

His eyes were a vortex, a maelstrom of power waiting to be unleashed with his emotions. A powerful force that could tear the world around him to pieces if he wished. Shizuku froze in place when she made eye contact with eyes that were so blue and intense. In that instant she saw his potential, and the innate power that was hidden deep inside of his pacifist ways. The kind of Naruto that could exist if it weren't for his desire for peace.

Just as quickly as that maelstrom showed, it was gone though when Naruto lost the energy to maintain a desire for revenge and laid back down on the bed.

"I'm not going to seek revenge. I don't want to live my life hunting down yokai, or becoming obsessed with killing those who wronged me." Naruto stated.

That was the end of that for him.

"Those are dangerous yokai, they have to be killed." Himari didn't agree with him.

"I agree."

"Then you want to kill them you know?" Shizuku asked him with some growing confusion. His statement ran contrary to his previous statement.

"Of course I want to kill them. Every part of me wants to rip them to pieces. I hate them... I hate them so much, and I want to hunt them down... but I am not going to live my life that way. I'm not going to put myself on the path of revenge. I don't know what I should do, but I know that if I kill them in revenge, I won't be able to come back." Naruto didn't want to become the man he saw himself becoming if he went down that path.

"They NEED to die, revenge doesn't need to be the reason."

"Himari! This is too personal to me now. If I am ever put into a position where I can kill them, there is no way I won't be able to look them in the eyes and not kill them out of revenge. I'm not strong enough to keep revenge and justice separate from each other... I don't know what to do, so both of you just leave me alone right now!" Naruto snapped at the two yokai in his room.

There was a short pause as Shizuku left the room.

"I understand... I don't agree, but I understand this is how you wish to live. Still, if those yokai ever show up, I will be doing my best to kill them. I won't allow them to lay even one filthy hand on you. You are my Young Master." Himari stated as she shut the door behind herself.

She saw Shizuku move to the couch.

"I agree, by the way, that those two yokai need to be killed. Shuten-Douji and Tamamo-no-Mae are threats to humans and yokai alike. If there were any yokai who I think Demon Slayers should slay, it's those two you know." Shizuku had an immense, a very immense, respect the the strength she felt from Naruto's heart in how he wasn't going to act on his desire for revenge. It took a strength of willpower that she couldn't even comprehend.

He knew himself well.

He was smart enough to know that even if he could rationalize his desire for "revenge" as "justice". It was easy to say "I'm killing them because they are a threat" when you're killing them for revenge. That logic is very easy to follow, and if you follow it once, it becomes easier to follow it more and more. Eventually, revenge and justice become the same thing, and then your desire for revenge needs to constantly be sated.

He knew if anyone killed the yokai who hurt him, then it couldn't be him that did it.

That must make him feel helpless.

"I think he should embrace his desire for revenge. Exterminating yokai is a noble cause to fight for." Himari just couldn't agree with Shizuku on the words she wouldn't say out loud. She could understand that Shizuku would prefer Naruto not dirty his hands, and there was part of her that agreed, but she understood that there were too many yokai that caused humans problems that needed to be finished off.

"The desire for revenge is more powerful than you know. It causes you to attack innocents too you know." Shizuku had experience with that. She had tried to kill Naruto in her desire for revenge against all demon slayers.

She locked eyes with Himari.

The two of them weren't going to come to an agreement, it was as simple as that, so the two of them didn't say another word to each other on the subject.

"Loli Snape."

"Cow Tits Kitty."

"Himejima is the one with cow tits." Himari deadpanned, and Shizuku raised an eyebrow.

"Is that the red haired one, or the black haired devil... both of them look the same to me you know."

"I understand, both really smell bad. The red haired one is Gremory, the black haired one is Himejima. I'm forbidden from killing her though... and I really want to slay her." Himari had a powerful itch to slay Akeno. All the stuff she pulled as a child, and having the nerve to be engaged to her Young Master were crimes that couldn't be forgiven. Still, she was forbidden from acting on her desires, unless Akeno acted out first and tried to attack her.

"Oh, I thought they smelled kind of sour. Why would I want to slay her though, smelling like the Underworld isn't a crime you know."

"She wants to seduce the Young Master away from his role as a demon slayer, and she takes great enjoyment in other people's suffering. She's a sadist." Himari added onto the list of crimes.

"I'm a sadist you know."

"You are rather harmless, because you lack breasts to seduce the Young Master with."

"Oh, you foolish child, never underestimate the charms of a loli who knows how to seduce a man... or one with a tongue like mine you know." Shizuku stretched out her snake tongue until it was 4 feet long, and she shaped it so that it looked like the cherry, not a cherry stem, but the entire cherry itself. She pulled her tongue back into her mouth, and gave a wide smile.

Himari stuck her tongue out and mentally measured it.

She clicked her teeth in annoyance at how small her tongue was in comparison, before she blinked and raised an eyebrow.

"Why should tongue length matter?" Himari asked, not getting the entire picture.

"There are sex acts I can do, that no other girl will ever be able to manage... for example, I can *Beep* my *Beep* around his *Beep* while also *Beep* his *Beep*... and with the extra 2 feet of tongue I can do it all while sitting on his face you know." Shizuku explained in explicit detail.

Himari's jaw dropped.

"... I can smother him in my boobs." Himari countered.

"Boobs are no match for a skilled tongue you know." Shizuku successfully managed to change the subject away from killing and revenge with that.

"I am quite confident in my licking abilities, I am a cat after all."

"Oh yes, because a barbed cat tongue is so pleasing to the tender parts of a man you know." Shizuku countered.

"My tongue doesn't have barbs on it when I'm in human form!" Himari shouted at her.

Asia was sitting next to Shizuku on the couch during this entire conversation.

'I have no idea what they are saying... Naruto seems depressed though, I wonder what happened.' Asia really wished she knew what was going on, but everyone around her was speaking in a language she didn't understand at all. She would really love if somebody could focus on teaching her Japanese, instead of just relying on Naruto to translate everything for her. When she went shopping, she could pay for things since numbers stayed the same no matter what language you used... for the most part.

Though, she DID buy sugar instead of salt that one time.

-In a Secret Location-

"Damn... that man got me good... these wounds... these will not be simple to recover from." Shuten groaned in pain as he looked at his wounded chest. The wound had closed up, but over half of the organs in his body had been damaged beyond the point of simple regeneration. Half of his chest was scarred from Nagato's final attack on him. "... Yes Tama, it will take me some time before I'm in proper fighting condition."

Tama had half recovered.

Eating Nagato had allowed her to recover, but there was so little meat to him, and his body was so close to death, that the recovery was almost a hindrance to her. Her body felt slower since she ate him, but she would guess that was simply because she didn't fully heal when she ate him. She was in a half-healed state, where she could move her body, but her powers were too weakened to hunt on her own.

She would have to recover from the rest of her wounds naturally before she could hunt again.

"That Demon Slayer may have killed us if he hadn't been as close to dying as he was... a shame he didn't kill me. I would have loved to meet him in hell, and continue fighting him for all eternity." Shuten lamented his own survival. He hated demon slayers, but this was the first time that he had met one so powerful that he had been no match for him at all.

It was a humbling experience for him.
