Chapter 27: One Call
Kagome
Sesshomaru had slipped out of bed and I missed him already. I stretched listening to him turn the shower on. I wrapped myself up in the sheet and rolled over into the spot he'd laid in. I wanted to feel the warmth he'd left behind. I smiled to myself. I looked at the alarm clock. It was only 9 in the morning and I was still tired. I could already feel myself drifting off to sleep. Maybe a little nap wouldn't hurt. I wouldn't see him until later anyway...
I stretched and rolled over. I took another peek at the clock. It was eleven-thirty now; almost three hours. I was surprised I didn't sleep for longer; especially after what he did to me last night. I smiled to myself after getting flashbacks. I laid out flat on the bed and took a deep breath. This was perfect; he was perfect; and to think I ever wanted to explore with anyone else. I can't believe how much of an idiot I was. Thank God it was all in the past. Now, I could only look forward. I grabbed my phone and sent Sango a quick message. I let her know to come over. I needed some company in this big house. If not I would end up wandering and getting lost. I plugged my phone in and ran into the shower. The bathroom was gorgeous. It was all white, but not the cheap kind of white. It was marble tile from the floors up, with cream decorations. The tub sat in the middle of the room. There was his and hers everything. It was fully stocked. Soap, shampoo, tampons; you name it.
He'd really thought all of this through. How cute. I'd definitely bother him about this later.
I peeked behind the curtains. The windows stretch from the ceiling to the floor. The view was beautiful. There was so much greenery. Our backyard was humungous. I had to squint to see the next house in the distance. He was right. This place would be a perfect place to start a family. I turned on the shower and stepped in. The water scalded my skin in such a good way. I scrubbed the sweat and grime from my skin and hair. I had to get out. If I stayed any longer, I would turn into a raisin. I hopped out and wrapped myself in a towel. I heard my phone ring and I ran over and answered it.
"Hey, are you here already?" I asked.
"Of course I am. How could I not take another chance to see this house? I need more time to snoop and pick my room. I probably got a few speeding tickets on my way here."
I laughed. "Good thing you come from money." I joked.
"Tell me about it. Well, don't leave me standing here. Come open the door - Oh wait, someone else is opening it."
Someone else? Was Sesshomaru still here?
"Never mind, I'm coming up," she said, hanging up.
I went to the bathroom and hung up my towel. I grabbed the, hers robe from the bathroom, and slipped into it. I went back into the bedroom and plopped onto the bed. A few minutes had passed and she hadn't come up yet.
"Did she get lost or something?"
Right on cue there was a knock at the door. I rolled off the bed and opened it. It was Sango and a strange man dressed in a butler's suit.
"You are?"
"I am Myoga, my lady. Master Sesshomaru has hired me and a few more staff to care for the house. Please let me or anyone know if you need anything."
I pulled Sango into the room. "Sure, thank you," I said closing the door.
She grinned. "Full staff, how fancy. He's pulling out all the stops for you."
I laughed. "I know right? It feels so unreal."
"Sigh, one day I'll find a love like this, but only if men bring back insatiable yearning. I won't settle for anything less, and to think you almost missed out on this."
I groaned. "I know. I was behaving like a big idiot."
She smiled. "But I saved you from yourself. You are very welcome," she said kissing my cheek.
I looked at her shirt if you could even call it that.
"Sango, what is this supposed to be?" I asked pointing to her shirt.
"What? You don't like it?"
"No, I do, but this is not a morning shirt. This is something that should only be worn inside."
She smiled. "Not even, this is a tasteful amount of cleavage."
I laughed. "In what world? I can practically see your heart beating."
She winked. "My world. God that means it's doing its job, but seriously how are you."
"Great. He doesn't want me working though."
"Good. I didn't want you working either and we're not even together. He's got the right idea about that."
"I want to work Sango."
She scoffed. "Well, for the life of me. I cannot understand why. We'll see if you still want to work when you swell up like a balloon, with his kid."
I playfully rolled my eyes. "Yeah, yeah, whatever. It feels weird to talk about this out loud. Even though I really like talking about it." I admitted.
"Who could blame you? You've struggled for so long. You deserve this. You deserve happiness Kagome."
I tucked my hair behind my ears and smiled. "I agree.
Sango craned her neck to the side. Her eyes went wide. She grabbed my head and titled it to the side.
"What is this on your neck?"
I touched my neck.
"What are you talking about?"
She let me go. "There's a little blue moon on your neck Kagome."
"A little blue moon? Oh... Oh! Sesshomaru, he and I, you know."
I could see her thinking about it until the realization hit her.
"No, I don't know. Why don't you explain it to me; in detail," she said with a smile.
I flicked her on the arm. "Yeah, nice try. I will not be explaining anything in detail. I can tell by the look on your face that you know what happened. We mated, end of story."
"So, how does it feel to be mated?"
"Well-"
I was cut off, by my phone ringing.
I'd been saved by the bell. Thank God, because I refused to have this conversation.
I grabbed it and answered.
"Hello?"
"Hello, is this Kagome Higurashi?"
I didn't recognize the woman's voice on the phone.
"This is she. May I ask who is speaking?"
"I'm sorry you do not know who I am. It is a bit difficult to explain. I never thought I would see you; let alone get to speak to you again, but then I saw all the papers were talking about you and your soon-to-be husband. I took it as a sign. I just had to reach out to you."
"I'm sorry ma'am but can you please tell me who you are? This is beginning to get a little strange."
I could hear her taking a deep breath, on the other end of the phone.
"I am the woman who left you at the orphanage."
I immediately ended the call and dropped my phone on the bed. I felt Sango's hand on my shoulder.
"Kagome, what's wrong? Who was that on the phone?"
I looked up at her.
"My mother."
