Chapter 1: A New Life For This God and Demon

The legend of the God of Conquest had spread far and wide across the land. Stories told of a man who could win the heart of any woman with a skill unrivaled by any other. It is said that no member of the fairer sex could resist his charms and that he always knew precisely the route required to conquer a woman's heart. Men and boys throughout Japan and beyond would seek out this mysterious figure's advice on how to win the objects of their affection. Thus, it was only natural that when the young demon Elucia de Lute Irma, also known as Elsie, was tasked with retrieving the spirits of the damned back to hell, spirits that would possess the bodies of young women and could only be exorcized by making the hosts fall in love, she would turn to the God of Conquest for aide.

The problem was that despite his reputation, Keima Katsuragi's skills only extended to the realm of dating sims. The young man was, in fact, an antisocial shut-in and loner who would very much rather avoid having to deal with people in the real world at all if he had any choice. But, the deal had already been struck before the misunderstanding could be cleared, leaving both Keima and Elsie bound together via magic contract to gather runaway spirits or share a gruesome end.

So far, the duo had managed to capture seven runaway spirits, with Keima applying his romantic skills to seduce the possessed hosts and release the damned souls while Elsie used her demonic magic to seal them away properly. They had reached the point where the process had nearly become a routine before fate decided to interfere.

Their latest target was a quiet transfer student who had just moved into town. Keima hadn't been able to gather much intel on the girl as no one in the area seemed to know much about her, other than that she was a big fan of anime. Thus, he had decided the best way to initial his latest capture route was to replicate a cliche 'meet cute' scenario that any otaku would recognize instantly.

Elsie had managed to turn the girl's alarm clock off during the night, causing her to oversleep that morning. Thus, she would have to rush through her morning routine and make a mad dash to their high school to avoid being late for class. All Keima would have to do is conveniently step out from around a corner so that she would run into him, and phase one of this operation would be a success. It may have been an old trope but it would get the job done.

Peering around the corner, Keima could see his target running along the street, a slice of buttered toast hanging out of her mouth. Perfect. Seeing that things were falling into place, Keima took a few steps back so that she wouldn't be able to see him waiting for her. Quickly calculating his timing based on how far she had been and the speed she was running, Keima dashed forward to collide with her.

What he failed to consider was that the girl had failed to properly tie her shoelaces and managed to trip on them mere seconds before impact, faceplanting into the sidewalk before reaching the corner. Keima ran right past the curb, stumbling into the street before he could slow to a stop and accidentally going from one anime cliche straight into another. A large truck had been driving down the street right at that moment and the driver, naturally, didn't have enough time to break fast enough. Keima's suddenly-limp body was sent flying through the air before landing on the other side of the intersection, broken limbs spread out like a ragdoll. Elsie screamed from down the road and ran over to him. Unfortunately, another truck driver passing through was busy taking a bite out of the sandwich he had packed for lunch, not looking up in time to see her.

Remember, readers, to always look both ways before you cross the street. You are not an anime character. You will not be sent on a cool adventure in another world. Probably.

Ko! * No! * Su! * Ba!

Keima found himself sitting on a plain wooden chair in the middle of an endless expanse of foggy darkness. The floor beneath his feet was like a giant glass chessboard that stretched out beyond the horizon in every direction. Beside him, Elsie was seated in a second chair, because of course he couldn't get away from her even in death. More important, however, was the majestic woman casually sitting in the more ornate white chair across from them, with light blonde hair and a lacy pink dress that Keima thought should have been considered far too revealing for an angel to be wearing, and she had to be an angel with those massive, feathery wings sticking out of her back.

"Keima and Elsie Katsuragi, welcome to the afterlife," the woman spoke up. "I am afraid that the both of you have reached the end of your mortal lives."

"Yeah, I think we both kind of figured that out already," Keima shrugged. "So, I take it this is heaven? A bit more bland than I was expecting."

"I am afraid not." The angel shook her head. "Or at least, not yet. The two of you have three options that you can choose from regarding what you want to do next. The first is that you can be reincarnated back on Earth, being born into new lives and, in Elsie's case, becoming fully human. The second option is that you, Keima, can go on to spend the rest of eternity waiting around in heaven, while you, Elsie, can go straight to hell."

The angel suddenly flushed. "Wait, that didn't come out right. I meant you can go back home… to hell… Sorry, I'm not used to having a demon here."

"Why is Elsie here, anyway?" Keima asked. "Shouldn't she already be back in hell?"

"Hey, are you saying that you want to get rid of me?" Elsie fumed.

"Your words, not mine," Keima muttered to her and turned his attention back to the angel.

"Yes, that is normally how that would work." The angel picked up one of the two clipboards sitting on the table next to her. "But according to our records, Elucia de Lute Irma was officially adopted into the Katsuragi family by your mother, Mari Katsuragi, and because of that, and because your souls were linked together as a side effect of your spirit-hunting contract, Elsie's soul is now being classified as human, or at least human-adjacent."

Elsie broke out into a massive grin as she grabbed Keima's shoulder and started shaking him about wildly. "Keima! Keima! Keima! Do you know what this means?"

"That I'm never going to be able to get rid of you?" Keima glared as he forcefully removed her hand from his shoulder, though the corner of his mouth ticked up.

"It means I'm really your sister!" The demon girl declared excitedly.

"Yeah, well, you were pretty much just part of the family already, anyway. Not that it makes much of a difference now that we're both dead." Keima shrugged and turned his attention back to the angel. "So, reincarnate back on Earth or move on to heaven or hell, respectively. That seems pretty definitive, but you mentioned that we had three options. What's the third?"

The angel cleared her throat before answering. "Ah, yes, I'm glad that you asked that. You see, your Earth is just one of countless worlds and while the residents of many of those worlds are perfectly capable of dealing with their own problems, many others face issues that require outside help. In particular, there is one world that is being plagued by a powerful demon King, who's been making life so hard for the residents that many choose not to reincarnate, which in turn has been leading to a gradual decline in birth rates. Your third option, should you choose to accept it, is to be sent to this world to defeat the demon King with the reward of having one wish granted to you by the gods if you succeed. Of course, you are not expected to be able to do this on your own and are permitted to bring one 'Cheat Item' of your choosing with you, in addition to whatever skills and allies you can amass while there. I read that you're a gamer, so you can think of it as being like an RPG."

"I'm not into RPGs," Keima told her. "I only play galge."

"Galge? I… don't think I'm familiar with that term."

"Mostly dating sims and visual novels." Keima waved his hand dismissively.

The angel stared at him blankly. "Dating sims? You mean games about going on dates?"

"That's an oversimplification. Dating sims aren't merely about 'going on dates'. It is a genre, neigh, a medium built around exploring the inner depths of humanity and their interactions with those around them. They are, at their core, a vessel through which we can dive into the inner workings of the most complicated minds and explore what makes them-"

"Yeah, they're games about going on dates," Elsie explained before Keima could continue his rant.

"That's… so dumb," the angel said bluntly. "I understand playing games about things you can't do in your world, like going on adventures and stuff, but if you want to go on a date then you should just ask a girl out. There are literally millions of them out there to choose from."

"I don't care about 3D girls," Keima snapped. "Everyone is flawed and imperfect. Only within the realm of 2D can you find girls worthy of interest."

"Of course everyone is flawed, that's part of what makes you distinct individuals! How can you be so callous? The Angel yelled in frustration, then sighed. "Ugh, forget it. Look, you can be reborn on Earth, spend the rest of eternity in heaven-slash-hell, or go on a big fantasy adventure in Belzerg. Which do you want?"

"Well, clearly the best option would be to be reincarnated. A fantasy world likely wouldn't be able to offer any of the luxuries or amenities available on Earth, and it sounds like going to heaven is the only option that wouldn't let me pick another route after another lifetime. And that's without mentioning the dearth of dating sims outside of Earth."

"I want to go on an adventure!" Elsie declared, jumping out of her seat excitedly.

"Of course, you would," Keima grumbled.

"Very well, then." The angel smiled and closed her eyes. "Then Keima Katsuragi will be sent back to Earth to live another lifetime, hopefully one with more meaningful interactions than his previous one-"

"I had meaningful interactions!"

"-while Elsie Katsuragi will be sent to Belzerg to take on the demon King. Now, before you go you will need to pick your cheat item. You can choose almost anything you want, though I do have a list of some of the most popular choices right-"

"I want a fire engine!" Elsie burst out before the angel even had a chance to pick up the stack of papers she was reaching for, to the angel's surprise and Keima's exasperation.

Keima sighed, stood up and placed a hand on his adopted sister's shoulder. "You can't just stick a modern-day vehicle in the middle of some medieval fantasy world. They wouldn't have the infrastructure required to maintain it. Where would you get the gas? Or oil? What would you do if it broke down? Will they even have a proper road system for you to drive in? You don't even have a driver's license."

"But, but, but… fire engine!" Elsie pouted as she looked up at Kazuma, her eyes wide and watery while her cheeks puffed out, as her dream was soundly crushed by logical reasoning.

"That's right," the angel sounded relieved and reached for her papers again. "Now, if you want something more practical, then I would recommend-"

"You would have to make it some kind of magic fire truck," Keima sighed, already regretting what he was saying. "One that runs on a fuel source that would be abundantly available in this other world. You'd also want it to be indestructible, too, so that you wouldn't have to worry about maintenance. That way you wouldn't have to worry if you had to use it to fight a dragon or something, since no one there would have any idea how to repair it."

Elsie dried her tears and looked back up again, a goofy grin plastered on her face. "Yeah, I want that! I want a magic indestructible fire engine that runs on something I'd be able to find easily!"

The baffled angel stared at her incredulously, entirely at a loss for words. After a moment, she finally sighed and closed her eyes again. "Well, that's certainly a new one. Fine. One indestructible fire engine powered by magic, coming up."

With a snap of her fingers, a large red-and-white truck appeared next to them, complete with an extendable turntable ladder resting on the top.

"Fire engine!" Elsie squeed as she ran over to her new most prized possession, running her hand along the shiny red coating.

"I'm surprised that worked," Keima admitted as he turned back to their heavenly host, reconsidering his options. He had initially thought that reincarnating on Earth would be the best option as it seemed like the only option that would allow him to continue his passion, but if he could take anything with him in this other world, then perhaps he could have what he wanted without the risks inherent in essentially restarting life from scratch as a new person."Is it too late to change my choice?"

"Huh? Oh, no," the angel replied absently, still trying to process what she had just allowed. "Decided that you don't want to be split up from your sister after all?"

"Split up?" Elsie repeated, walking back to them quickly. "What do you mean, split up? You can't leave me, Keima!"

Keima sighed and turned to the demon who had forcibly intruded into his life. "Oh, come on, you knew that our contract was only temporary. Us going separate ways was always how this was going to turn out!"

"But, but…" Elsie tried to process that, having completely forgotten that she was, in fact, more of a business partner to him than an actual sibling. "But we're family now!"

Keima sighed again. "Besides, I just said that I am going with you."

"Yay!" Elsie pulled Keima into a hug that was entirely too close for the antisocial teen. "I knew you wouldn't leave me!"

"Get off me," Keima grumbled as he pushed Elsie away and turned back to the angel. "So, about my cheat item…"

"Of course, what would you like?" The beleaguered divine bureaucrat closed her eyes, silently praying to all of the gods she knew that he would pick something normal.

"I want a Play Field Personal loaded up with every dating sim and visual novel ever made," Keima stated simply, "with an infinite battery that never needs to be replaced or recharged."

The angel gave an incredibly forced smile and she raised a finger. "Just one moment, please."

With that, she turned and walked behind her chair, raised her arm to her mouth and screamed into the slave of her dress. After a solid minute, she finally turned around and walked back to where Keima was waiting, a shaky smile weakly plastered on her face.

"You know what, fine. If you want to be an anti-social NEET for the rest of your life, go ahead. See if I care."

With a wave of her hand, the desired game machine appeared in the air before Keima, who grabbed it and booted it up to make sure it was working. He nodded in satisfaction after skimming through the downloaded games and slipped the device into the pocket of his school uniform.

"This will do," Keima said, turning his attention back to the angel. "So, what now?"

"Get in the truck." The Angel buried her face in her hands, not believing what she was saying. "I'll send you down to Belzerg."

The pseudo-siblings complied, Keima climbing into the passenger seat while Elsie bounced up and down excitedly behind the wheel of her new fire engine. Once they were both in position, the angel raised her hands and a large, glowing magical circle appeared beneath the fire engine. With a flash, the truck and its passengers suddenly found themselves whisked off to a grassy clearing.

"Can you believe it, Keima? We're actually in another world!" Elsie caressed the leather grip of the steering wheel. "And I have my own FIRE ENGINE!"

"Yep," Keima leaned back in his chair and pulled out his PFP to boot up a game, thoroughly disinterested in going on any sort of adventure.

"Where do you think the demon King is?" Elsie asked as she fiddled around with the controls.

"Planning on running him over?" Keima picked a game at random and booted it up.

Elsie managed to start the engine and drove forward slowly. This may have been her first time actually behind the wheel but she had done enough research to have a general idea of what she was doing. "Of course not. We need to find a town to recruit a team of adventures, working alongside them and growing until we're finally ready to take on the final boss. Haven't you watched any anime?"

"Why do you want to take down the demon King, anyway? Aren't you a demon?"

"What would that have to do with anything?" Elsie asked.

"I don't know, I was just ask- Whoah!" Keima was nearly thrown out of his seat as the fire engine suddenly lurched and bucked. "What was that?"

"I think I just ran over a bunch of goblins," Elsie admitted bashfully. "Or at least I think that's what they were."

"Of course…" Keima muttered as he shifted back into his seat, beginning to dread that tagging along on this adventure would not, in fact, be worth the game machine in his hands. "I think I see a city wall over in the distance over there. Park behind that cluster of trees near it and try not to hit anything else."

"You got it, Bro!" Elsie floored the gas and they rocketed off.

Ko! * No! * Su! * Ba!

Elsie whistled as she skipped along the tall stone wall of the city they had reached, the keys to her very own fire engine(!) clanging around in her pocket. She was really here, in a fantasy world, about to embark on an adventure with her best/only friend! Keima, for his part, followed along quietly while barely looking up from his game. It would have been nice if he could be there without that thing, Elsie thought, but at least he was there with her.

"Afternoon, travelers. What brings you to Axel?" A guard stationed next to the big gate leading into town waved to them as they approached.

"Hello!" Elucia said cheerily, beaming up at the tall man. "I am Elsie and this is my brother Keima. We have come here from a faraway land to defeat the terrible tyrant who calls himself the demon King!"

"Ah, new adventures." The guard nodded knowingly. "We get a lot of your type here. You're going to want to head to the Adventurer's Guild to get registered. It's a big building near the center of town with a large crest displayed above the entrance, you can't miss it."

"Why, thank you, kind sir." Elsie bowed politely, LARPing the hell out of her new role as a fantasy hero. "We'll be sure to head straight there."

"Hey," the guard leaned in and whispered, "Is your brother alright? He just keeps staring at that strange box he's holding."

Elsie turned back to see Keima still focused on whatever nonsense game he was playing. "Oh, he's fine. He's just a hopeless hikikomori."

"Ah," the guard nodded again, recognizing the word but not knowing what it meant, "so another one like Kazuma. Oh, well."

"Hey, I can hear you!" Keima said indignantly, glaring up from his game briefly before shifting his attention straight back to it.

"I know." Elsie stuck her tongue out at him before running into the city. "Last one there's a rotten egg!"

Elsie managed to navigate through the town without too much trouble. Or to be more precise, Keima managed to navigate while repeatedly stopping Elsie from wandering off too far. Before long, the two managed to make their way to the building that the guard had mentioned and stepped inside.

"Wow, this place is so cool!" Elsie exclaimed while taking in the rustic environment of what was essentially the quintessential fantasy tavern. Rows of large dining tables lined the main hall, the skeleton of some kind of dragon-like serpent was wrapped around one of the support beams and they even had a large bulletin board set up by the front desk that was covered with notices for available quests.

"Good afternoon!" A buxom blonde lady in a low-cut top smiled at them from behind the front desk. "I don't recognize either of you, what brings you here today?"

"We're on a quest to slay the demon King!" Elsie declared as she walked up to the lady, Keima trailing behind. "But before we can do that we must start from the beginning, as new adventurers!"

The receptionist regarded the pair for a moment before smiling. "I don't think I've heard that one since Kazuma and Aqua joined. In fact, you two kind of remind me of them. You've even got the same floaty scarf thing."

"Haqua's here?" Elsie gasped excitedly, absently clutching at the pink raiment in question floating around her shoulders. "I used to go to school with her!"

"She joined a few months ago, and her party members have actually been some of our top adventurers lately, even if they are rather… eccentric. So I take the two of you will be registering to the guild?" The woman's smile turned acidic for a moment. "I trust you will be able to pay the registration fee?"

"Registration fee?" Elsie parroted, her hopes dashed for a second.

"It means we have to pay to join," Keima explained.

"I know what it means!" Elsie snapped at him.

"Oh, well, I guess we'll just have to drop this whole adventuring thing." Keima's tone showed his complete lack of disappointment as he turned to leave. "Let's just find a place to stay and settle down. Who cares about some stupid demon King, anyway."

"Not so fast!" Elsie grabbed him by the collar of his school blazer and pulled him back to the desk. "Just give me a moment, I have a plan!"

Keima rolled his eyes as Elsie walked over to the dining area, where a mixed assortment of various adventurers were scattered around. The receptionist sucked in a sharp breath as the demon girl hopped onto a table and raised her hand dramatically while clearing her throat.

"Hark, fine members of the Adventure's Guild!" Elsie exclaimed. "My name is Elucia de Lute Irma, future slayer of the demon King! My brother and I wish to join your noble ranks but we are currently short on cash! Would any of you kind souls be willing to lend us some money for the registration fee?"

A deafening silence filled the air as everyone in the guild hall stared at Elsie. Keima sighed and was about to walk up to the girl who was in no way his sister as far as he was concerned, seeing that she looked like she was about to cry when no one volunteered to help. But then a high-pitched cackle filled the hall and every adventurer around seemed to freeze.

A small girl in bright red robes struggled to climb onto one of the tables. She had a large, wide-brimmed wizard hat that flopped about her head as she waved around, two oversized buttons sewn on to look like eyes. She almost fell off before an armored blonde woman helped out by lifting the girl onto the table with just one hand. Once she was standing firmly on the table, the girl quickly pulled on an eyepatch with a cross emblem on it and struck a pose with the staff her friend handed her, which was notably taller than the girl herself.

"Aha, it is good to see that even a fledgling adventurer such as yourself knows the importance of a properly dramatic introduction!" The girl declared wildly. Most of the adventurers quickly evacuated the area, though Elsie didn't notice "But I am afraid that if you set your sights on defeating the demon King, you will be sorely disappointed. For it is I, Megumin, the foremost genius of the Crimson Demon Clan and mistress of explosion magic, who will be the one to defeat him with the aid of my adventuring party!"

Elsie blinked a few times before breaking out into a wide grin.

"Oh ho? So I see that you are also a fellow demon!" Elsie held her hand below her chin, in the pose generally reserved for vain noblewomen in anime, as she walked up to the edge of her table to directly face the overexcited chuunibyo. "Then you of all people must know the importance of removing one who gives our people such as bad name. Perhaps we should be allies in our quest to defeat the false king?"

"Oh no, not another one." The receptionist gave a defeated sigh from behind the counter.

The girl calling herself Megumin smirked maliciously, her red eye starting to glow. Keima was increasingly sure that he should run out the door immediately and even tucked his game machine into the pocket of his school blazer.

"If you are a demon as well, then you would know that we have no allies!" Megumin declared, pointing a finger at Elsie dramatically. Though calling anything she did dramatic may have been redundant. "For ours is a cold and lonely existence full of misery, unable to form any close connections to those around us, for it is our nature to betray or be betrayed."

"But it hasn't been that way since the war." Elsie pouted, though Megumin didn't seem to notice.

"I can see that you do have what it takes to be a worthy rival!" Keima heard a soft growl and turned to spot another red-eyed girl, this one taller and with her dark hair tied in twin-tails running down her shoulders, hiding behind a shrubbery. He found this concerning but decided not to question it for now, as Megumin pulled out a small satchel from under her robes. "Here, I will lend you the money you need to start your adventures! We will discuss repayment after you register."

Elsie hopped off the table, using the power of her raiment to glide slowly down to the floor, and walked over to Megumin who handed her a few gold coins. "Thanks a bunch."

Elsie skipped back over to Keima, whistling all the way. "I got the money!"

"Yes, I can see that," Keima grunted. "I'm also pretty sure that you've managed to convince everyone here that we're a couple of whacked-out lunatics."

"At this point, I think most of us are getting used to that kind of behavior," the receptionist sighed, turning their attention back to her. "And in the future, please don't stand on the furniture."

"Oh, right, sorry." Elucia blushed. "I guess I got a bit carried away, there. I'm just so excited to be an adventurer!"

"I understand." The blonde woman smiled. "That's why I'm letting you off with just a warning this time. Now, your payment?"

"Oh, right!" Elsie placed the coins on the counter. "Is this enough?"

"That should do it." The woman grabbed the money, pulled out a crystal ball set within a metal frame, and placed a small sheet of paper on its base. "Now it's time to make your registration cards. They keep track of important information such as your class, levels, skills and the monsters you've killed. By killing monsters and completing quests, you'll earn experience points which will raise your level, increasing your stats and letting you learn various skills depending on which class you've chosen. Now, just hold your hand over this crystal so that it can print out your card."

Aha, so this world operated by RPG mechanics? That just made Elsie even more excited.

"I'll go first," Keima sighed and followed the lady's instructions. The crystal began to glow as the device came to life, a small laser shooting down and printing out a small piece of paper. Once it had finished, Keima picked up the ornate card. The writing was in a language that they'd never seen before but somehow they both could read.

"Everyone starts as a basic level one Adventurer," the receptionist explained, reaching over Keima's shoulder and scrolling through his card like it was a touchscreen device instead of parchment. It must have been magic. "That's the basic class, which levels up quickly and can learn any skills but doesn't have any real strengths and skills take more points to learn, so most adventurers switch to one of the starter classes as soon as they can. It looks like you've got slightly above-average stats, though your Wisdom and Luck are a bit low and your Intelligence is incredibly high. From the looks of it, you'd probably be best suited for the Wizard class, which specializes in various forms of magic. Is that alright?"

"Sure," Keima nodded, and the woman selected the Wizard option in his list of available classes.

"There you go." The woman smiled and stepped away. "You can learn skills by first seeing another adventurer use them so that they appear in your list of available skills, then spending Skill Points to unlock them. However, learning spells is a bit more complicated, so I'd recommend finding a more experienced Wizard to teach you the basics."

"I'll keep that in mind," Keima said as he slipped the card into his jacket pocket and pulled his PFP back out to continue his game.

"My turn now!" Elsie skipped forward and placed her hand over the magic printer after the receptionist placed another blank card into it, which was quickly filled out. She snatched up the card once it was one and practically shoved it in the blonde woman's face.

"Oh, um…" The lady pulled Elsie's hand away so that she could actually read the card. "That's interesting, it says that you're already level two. Have you already been hunting monsters?"

"I ran over some goblins with my truck on the way here," Elsie said.

"Oh," the woman looked at her uncertainly before going back to the card, "Oh, Eris, these are the highest starting stats I've seen since Aqua! Your Intelligence and Luck are both a bit below average but everything else is incredible! You could start with just about any of the starting classes! In fact, it looks like you even already have some advanced classes available!"

"Yay!" Elsie pulled her card back and began scrolling through her list of available classes, looking for one to choose from.

"Now, based on your stat distribution, it looks like you'd probably be best suited for a magic-based class, something along the lines of a Priest or Arch Priest that would use your Wisdom stat for healing and support magic, or perhaps-"

"Oh, what's this Dark Knight class? That sounds cool! I want to be Batman" Elsie waved her card in the woman's face again.

"What? Dark Knight? But that class is only for…" Her eyes widened as she grabbed the card from Elsie and saw that the class in question was highlighted. "But that doesn't make sense. The Dark Knight class is normally exclusive to evil creatures, like demons or undead monsters. How could you have it?"

"Well, probably because I am a demon, obviously," Elsie said as if that explained everything.

"What?" The receptionist seemed even more confused than before. "I know you mentioned that during your outburst earlier, but…"

As the woman puzzled through this sudden revelation, Keima noticed that most of the other adventurers who hadn't fled earlier were now starting to stare and he could sense a sudden hostility in the air. Sighing, he put his game machine away again and quickly came up with a plausible cover story.

"What my dear half-sister means is that she is part demon," Keima lied and elbowed her in the arm before she could object. "My family's village was attacked by demons when I was a baby. My father was away at the time and my mother wasn't able to defend herself against them. And, well…"

"Oh!" The woman gasped in horror as she realized what Keima was implying, and many of the eavesdroppers shifted uncomfortably. "Oh, dear, I'm so sorry."

"Sorry for what?" Elsie tilted her head in confusion. "What are you talking about?"

"Nevermind," Keima said. "You were discussing classes?"

"Oh, right." Luna looked back down at the card. "Well, I'm not as familiar with the Dark Knight class since it's usually exclusive to monsters but from what I've read it's essentially the dark version of the Crusader class, which would make it a defence-based class specializing in heavy armor, two-handed weapons and… I would assume dark magic instead of holy magic."

"Yeah, that sounds cool!" Elsie took her card back and confirmed her class selection.

"Congratulations!" The woman still sounded uncomfortable. "The both of you are now official members of the Adventure's Guild. You're now free to take on any quests from the quest board as well as access to our dining facilities and various other amenities we offer. I'd suggest starting with simple quests for now, until you get strong enough to take on the higher-level ones. Oh, I'm Luna, by the way. I'm the chapter head for the guild's Axel branch, which is where you are right now. We also have branches in almost every city in Belzerg but I wouldn't recommend venturing too far off until you've gained at least a few more levels. Welcome to the guild!"

"Thanks!" Elsie said cheerily. "Now, let's go take on some quests!"

The peppy girl took two steps before stopping and clutching her stomach, which had started rumbling loudly.

"On second thought, let's get lunch first."

Keima just sighed and went back to his game, feeling that he really should have just let himself be reincarnated. Meanwhile, a group of unfortunate goblins were about to start their own epic isekai adventure, but that is a story for another time.

On the next exciting chapter of God's Blessing, God Knows: A Quest For These Noobs!

A true adventurer wakes up precisely when he intends to and for Kazuma Sato that meant roughly the crack of noon.

Kazuma suddenly needed to know everything and more importantly, if he would be able to con that guy out of what was most likely the only game console in Belzerg.

"This is fun!" Elsie laughed as she drove her borrowed blade down to bisect an unfortunate goblin whose leg had been trapped in ice from one of Keima's spells. To a reasonable person that would probably be seen as worrying behavior but a reasonable person wouldn't have been in Belzerg to begin with.

Author's Notes: Lately I've been reading a lot of Konosuba fanfiction and it reminded me of an old fanfic idea I had years ago. After redeveloping those original ideas, adding on to them and coming up with an outline, I felt inspired to actually start writing instead of just leaving the notes to gather dust like most of my fanfic ideas. I'm actually really excited to work on this story and have a lot planned. Especially when my original idea was just "Wouldn't this title be funny?" and not much to go on beyond that.

This is going to be mainly based on the anime for both series involved in the crossover as I haven't read the books (Konosuba) or manga (God Knows) yet, but I will be including elements of the Konosuba books and spin-off material later on.

I'd also like to point out that I recently made a Discord server for discussing my fanfics and that you can find the invitation code in my bio. It's kind of empty right now, though.
