Chapter 13 -Arizona
It's been one of the most amazing days of my life. I woke up in bed with the woman of my dreams, yeah, we had a setback, but thanks to Alex, that is all fixed. I have to remember to thank him, as much as it pissed me off, that he told her about Joann. She needed to know, and if I know myself, I wouldn't have told her. I'm sitting on the back porch smoking, after an amazing dinner that my dad and Callie made together. "hey" Alex says letting the screen door slam behind him.
"hey" I look at him and smile
"is that a smile" he laughs "a true 100% Zo Robbins smile?"
"shut up" I chuckle
"she's it isn't she?"
"hmm" I hum taking a drag off my smoke, watching the smoke float away.
"well Pop and I both like her"
"doesn't really matter if you didn't" I look at him, he nods, we sit there quiet for a bit "thank you Alex"
"for what?" I look over at him "for going and seeing her today, and" I wasn't sure if I needed to say the and part, I see him nod "when I was telling her I felt like I was breaching some bro contract we had, I'm sorry if" I reach over placing my hand on his leg "Alex, she needed to know, if this is going to work, she needed to know" I pause "so thank you" we make eye contact and I see him nod.
"you and Pop have been way too good to me, I don't want to do anything to jeopardize that"
"Alex your part of this family, it's me, you and Pop against the world" we laugh, I don't usually call my dad Pop, unless I'm talking to him.
"at risk of being corny here" he laugh "I much appreciate that" he reaches for my pack of smokes and takes one. He doesn't often smoke, so I don't mind when he takes mine. Besides he's my brother, what's mine is his. Except Callie, Callie is mine. "she's mine" I mutter
"what" Alex asks confused
"she's mine" I say a little louder this time.
"she is, and for some unknown reason she loves you"
"well you did save me from a tornado" Callie says coming out on the porch, the screen door slamming behind her. Neither Alex nor I said anything "I'm not interrupting anything am I"
"no" I shake my head
"we were just chatting" Alex says "Zo can't believe you're hers" Callie smiles and leans towards me "believe baby, I'm all yours"
"get a room" Alex laughs
"we have one, and we'll be using it tonight, so make sure you sleep with your ear plugs in"
"she's one of those" he looks at me, and when I nod, he rolls his eyes, and we laugh. Dad comes out with some cans of coke, handing them out to us, and sits down, with an umph then lets out a sigh "sure is a nice night"
"yes it is" I say and look at Callie, who is looking off into the field at the setting sun. Then turn to look at dad, he nods and gives me a smile, that's his way of telling me that he approves.
"so what's on the agenda for tomorrow" Callie asks
"a lot of what we did today" Alex says
"I think we have a couple dogs being dropped off, but other than that" dad says
"I think I should run home at some point, you know, get a change of clothes and feed the cat"
"you have a cat" Alex asks, and Callie starts to giggle, god I loved that sound "no" she shakes her head, "but I've always wanted one"
"well you have a puppy" I say, pointing to the yard where Jack and Rose are sniffing around along with the new puppy.
"awe, Penelope" she says and calls the dogs over. Jack and Rose come running, their tongues sticking out, happy to be getting attention. Penelope, on the other hand, stood there looking around then took off running. Crashing into Jack and knocking him over. "damn kids" dad mutters and we all laugh.
