Another two months and two weeks had passed since Kai had set his goal: to defeat the strongest creatures on the island and become its undeniable ruler before leaving. The past few months had been a test of his endurance, strength, and mastery of his Devil Fruit powers. He had gone from facing small creatures and beasts to larger, more imposing opponents—smaller dinosaurs, wild elephants, and other ancient beasts of enormous size and power.
Each fight pushed him to his limits, forcing him to rely on his instincts, strength, and growing mastery of his Devil Fruit powers. He wasn't just relying on Blue and Red; he was testing his physical abilities more and more. Punches, kicks, quick dodges—each move in battle felt more natural, more fluid. Yet, even with his progress, every victory came with a price: exhaustion, pain, and the ever-present reminder that there was always a bigger challenge ahead.
Now, two weeks remained before his planned departure. And today, he was about to face the biggest challenge yet—the island's apex predator.
Reflection on Progress
As he prepared for the day, Kai sat at the edge of his base, staring out over the dense jungle below. His body had changed in ways that felt unreal to him. His muscles were defined, his endurance had grown immensely, and his control over his Devil Fruit powers had sharpened to a level he hadn't thought possible a year ago.
Blue and Red were now tools he could rely on—he could summon them with ease, but still, there were limits. On a good day, he could use Blue and Red each around 21-25 times before he reached the point of exhaustion. He had begun to push himself further, hoping to increase that limit, but no matter how hard he tried, the toll on his body remained. His Infinity Barrier had also improved, becoming more stable and controllable as he learned to let it flow naturally rather than forcing it into place.
Teleportation had become a part of his arsenal, though it remained a skill he couldn't fully master. The short-range jumps were useful for dodging and repositioning, but long-distance teleportation was still beyond his reach.
His Haki had also evolved. His Observation Haki had continued to guide him, allowing him to sense presences, strengths, and intentions with increasing precision. But the emotional aspect of it remained elusive. He had a nagging feeling that he would need to be around actual people, not just animals, to truly understand and tap into that part of his power.
As for his Armament Haki—it had finally begun to show signs of awakening. He had felt it in the heat of battle, small flickers of energy coating his fists or legs during moments of intense focus, but it wasn't consistent. He knew it would take time, but with only two weeks left on the island, he was determined to push harder than ever.
"I'm almost there," he muttered to himself. "Two more weeks. Just need to finish what I started."
The Apex Predator
Kai stretched his limbs as he stood up, feeling the familiar tension in his muscles. He ate quickly, grabbing some of the fruits and dried meat he had collected over the past weeks. His eyes gleamed with determination as he prepared himself for today's goal. He was going to face the strongest dinosaur he had encountered on the island—the 'boss.'
It was a massive T-rex, towering over the landscape with dark green scales that shimmered in the sunlight. Its size was enough to make most creatures run in fear, but what made it truly terrifying were its powerful legs and longer-than-average arms. This was no ordinary predator; it was a beast that dominated the island, and today Kai was going to take it down.
The jungle felt unnaturally quiet as Kai made his way toward the area where he had last seen the T-rex. Every now and then, a smaller creature would scurry through the trees, but they quickly vanished into the underbrush as if sensing the danger that lay ahead. The air was thick with tension, and Kai's senses were on high alert.
Finally, he spotted it.
The T-rex stood in the clearing, its massive form hunched over as it tore into the carcass of another creature it had just killed. Blood dripped from its jaws, and the sight made Kai's stomach churn. But this was no time for hesitation.
"This is it," he muttered, clenching his fists as he approached the beast from behind. "Time to finish this."
The Fight Begins
The T-rex's head snapped up as soon as Kai stepped into the clearing. It turned to face him, its glowing eyes narrowing as it sniffed the air, recognizing the scent of a new challenger. With a deafening roar, the T-rex charged toward him, its powerful legs thundering against the ground with each step.
Kai jumped back, dodging the initial rush as the dinosaur's massive jaws snapped shut where he had just been standing. His heart pounded as he summoned Blue, pulling a nearby tree toward the creature. The tree slammed into its side, momentarily slowing it down, but the T-rex shook it off with ease, letting out another roar as it charged again.
"Damn… it's fast!" Kai growled, ducking under a swipe of the T-rex's arm.
He summoned Red, forming a small orb in his hand before launching it toward the beast. The orb exploded on impact, sending a shockwave that pushed the dinosaur back. But the T-rex wasn't easily deterred. It skidded to a stop and let out a growl of frustration, its long arms thrashing wildly as it tried to close the distance between them again.
Kai's mind raced. The T-rex was faster than he expected, and its strength was overwhelming. He couldn't rely solely on his Devil Fruit powers—he needed to use everything he had.
As the dinosaur lunged at him once more, Kai darted forward, using his enhanced speed and agility to get in close. His fist collided with the T-rex's side, but without the full force of Armament Haki, the blow barely made a dent. Still, he pressed on, landing a series of quick jabs and kicks, trying to find an opening.
The T-rex swung its massive tail at him, and Kai barely managed to dodge, rolling to the side before summoning another Blue orb. This time, he pulled several large rocks toward the creature, bombarding it with a barrage of debris. The T-rex stumbled, momentarily disoriented, and Kai seized the opportunity to strike again.
He charged forward, his hands glowing faintly as he tried to coat them with Armament Haki. The energy flickered, unstable, but it was there. He threw a punch directly at the T-rex's leg, this time feeling the impact reverberate through his arm as the Haki-enhanced strike connected.
The T-rex roared in pain, but it wasn't down yet. It whipped its head around, jaws snapping dangerously close to Kai's face. He leaped back, summoning a quick burst of Red to push the beast away. But he was running out of energy. He could feel the strain in his muscles, the exhaustion creeping up on him with each use of his powers.
A Moment of Struggle
Kai panted heavily as he dodged another attack, the T-rex's claws grazing his side. Blood trickled down his skin, but he ignored it. His mind was focused solely on the fight.
"I'm not… giving up," he muttered through gritted teeth.
The T-rex lunged at him once more, its jaws wide open, ready to snap him in half. In a split second, Kai's instincts kicked in. He teleported, blinking out of existence for a brief moment before reappearing several feet away, disoriented but alive.
The T-rex growled in confusion, searching for its prey. Kai staggered to his feet, his breath ragged as he tried to gather his strength.
"That… was close," he muttered, wiping the sweat from his brow.
The teleportation had saved him again, but it was still unreliable. He couldn't count on it to win this fight.
The T-rex turned toward him once more, its eyes blazing with fury. It roared, charging at him with renewed vigor. Kai's muscles screamed in protest as he summoned both Blue and Red, trying to combine the two into Hollow Purple.
But the energy didn't form.
"No… not yet," he muttered, his heart sinking as the T-rex closed in.
He'd have to do this the hard way.
Kai braced himself, ready for the final clash as the T-rex lunged at him, jaws wide, ready to tear him apart.
