Hi! I wrote this fic while manning a lemonade stand. I'll update from time to time, but i'm currently focused on my Stardew Valley fanfic, The Farmer's Children. Please leave reviews, because strangers like constructive criticism more than my parents.

She stood out in the patient ward, because she was the only human. She was tired, partially from the surgery and painkillers, but mostly from boredom. All she could do was watch the tiny TV and the other patients. Over at the doorway, a nurse was helping a sheep into a wheelchair. A chicken was sitting in front of the TV, watching commercials. The only other animal in the ward was sleeping in their hospital bed. As the human laid down, she wished she could walk so she could grab something from the magazine rack. But she was silent and helpless. All she could do was watch everything as she waited to be discharged in a few days. So, the human girl closed her eyes, sighed, and went to sleep.

Shayla was storyboarding a comic while Ms. Eloise talked about physics. Nook College was known for its unique curriculum where all the students chose any subject to work on while the teacher taught traditional lessons and helped out with things. Her desk was in the middle row, and she sat next to an intellectual-looking mouse and a hippo. While the mouse was studiously taking notes from the teacher's lesson, the hippo was sculpting a dinosaur. Shayla was an aspiring cartoonist, so when she read about this school, she immediately started packing her things. The bell rang, signaling the end of the day. Shayla joined the rush of animals, then caught up with her roommate, a pink kangaroo. She didn't have a home yet, so when the marsupial offered to let her move in temporarily, Shayla was happy to oblige. It was kind of hard, because her roommate had a joey, and ran an in-home daycare. Shayla didn't like kids very much. She was planning on looking for jobs soon, so she could save up enough Poki to get her own place. Maybe she could get a job at the vacation-home place near the school. But right now, she was going to get dinner at the café.
