Many years went by and it all seemed to quick. While Issei was in Asgard and had been feasting on the teat of a Goddess, he was still a human child and was subjected to human aging. Only 2 years in the city, it was six years in Midgard so Issei was now seven, almost eight. He was standing before a mirror, with Frigg behind him messing with a collar on a uniform. He was dressed in a black suit with golden trims, as well as a golden shirt underneath, while Issei was messing with a tie.
"Do I have to go to school?" He asked, looking up at his mother. Within that year, Issei wasn't given much teaching. It was harder for Odin and Frigg to subject Issei to the same training and teaching as they would a God or Goddess, just because Issei grew up so much quicker. However, they did manage to at least teach Issei how to speak English, Japanese, Old Norse and Norwegian. It was time, however, that Issei would attend school. It was a little early for Issei to attend the school in Asgard for most Gods and Goddesses attended much much later in their years, but due to the human growth, it had to be done.
"Yes, I'm afraid you do. You're growing up so fast Issei and there's much that you need to learn."
"But couldn't you teach me?"
"That's not in my abilities Issei. I can teach you some things, but there is a reason they have schools here." She said, hugging him to her chest. Issei was a small boy with spiky brown hair, and light brown eyes. "But you'll come home every day and if you want, I can teach you some things that I know… but I'm afraid that until you stop growing so quickly, you're going to be going to school a lot… plus a friend of mine promised to train you."
"Train me?"
"… How to fight." She said quietly. "She's going to make you big and strong."
"Do… I have to know how to fight?"
"Yes… for it is the duty of all of Asgard to know how to fight for if Ragnarök comes and we're not prepared… all we've worked for here is destroyed."
"Ragnarök? What's that?" He said his mother, only for her to smile and kiss the top of his head.
"You'll learn that in school Issei… where you need to get going now or you're going to be late." She said, standing up and gently pushing Issei towards a small portal that appeared.
Issei looked behind him at his mother, who gave him the shoo motion with both hands. Issei frowned but didn't step forward.
"Mother… why am I growing so quickly… yet the others aren't?"
"I… maybe one day soon I'll tell you… just not right now Issei. Please." She said, begging her son to drop it. Issei gave a nod and walked through the portal. Frigg let out a cry of frustration, hugging her self in front of the full size mirror that was in front of her. "Please… please make sure he comes back to me alright." She replied, staring at herself in the mirror.
Issei exited the portal a few seconds later and stood staring up at the large golden building that looked like a court house. It had large steps that led up to the two big double doors, underneath an awning held up by golden marble. Not even ten seconds and Issei was knocked to the ground by a shoulder check. When Issei looked up, there was a boy around his age in looks. He had pointed ears, black hair and dark blue eyes. He looked cocky and smug, grinning. "Well, look who it is… the golden child of Odin and Frigg. No more mommy and daddy to protect you twerp. Go back to Midgard where you belong." He said. It seemed that everyone but Issei knew what he was.
"Asgard… is my home." Issei said, slowly standing up to his feet, fear in his eyes. 'I wanna go home… I wanna go home… I wanna go home.' He chanted to himself as he stood up, only to be knocked down again, this time by a dark light coming from the boy. "You don't belong here… and you better learn that quick or your time here won't be pleasant." He said, before leaving the poor human boy on the ground, who once more stood up on his own. Issei slowly made his way up the steps, knowing that he didn't want to disappoint his mother and knew that this is what she wanted.
Unknown to him, but a figure was watching from a perch on top of Valhalla. It was Freya. 'You show promise… perhaps you will be someone worth teaching.' She thought to herself before her wings appeared on her back and she flew to the school to keep a watch on Issei. Curiosity was something that didn't come to her often, yet it drove her. Her wings were iridescent feathers that extended from iridescent stalks that came from her back. She landed on top of the roof of the schoolhouse and made her way over towards one of the windows on the ceiling, looking down at the class. She spotted Issei rather quickly due to his signature spiky brown hair. She took a seat on the roof, placing her right hand under her cheek as she watched the human closely, while listening in on the class.
"Good morning everyone. I am going to be your teacher for the year. My name is Göndul." She said. Göndul was a very attractive woman who was wearing a silver dress that left everything to the imagination. However, it was well known that Göndul was actually a Valkyrie, the most powerful Valkyrie behind Freya.
"Wow, the beautiful Göndul is our teacher?! Woo hoo!" Said one boy in the back, which sparked a frenzy of cheers from the boys and girls of the classroom. Göndul's left eyebrow twitched in annoyance, hating the fact that she was constantly being cheered at for her beauty instead of her intelligence and her knowledge.
'So Göndul is the teacher for the year… I guess that's why she's not been around Valhalla much… wonder if this was Odin's doing...' Freya thought to herself.
"Alright, that's enough." Göndul said, quickly silencing the class. Issei was currently sitting in front, closest to the wall. It was then several books appeared on each of the students desks. "On your desks are the textbooks that you will be studying this year. Now open the one on top to the first page. It's time you all learned about the nine realms in detail." She said, her words giving no room for argument. She spoke with authority.
The day went along rather quickly for Issei, his mind engrossed in Göndul's teaching, eagerly taking in all the knowledge on the nine realms that she brought to the table. A considerable amount of time was spent on Midgard, which was good knowledge for Issei. He learned of all the different Pantheons of Midgard as well as the Three Great Powers of Christianity. A good portion of their day was spent talking about them, due to their relevance to the world due to their size and power.
Göndul closed her book and stood up from her seat, looking out at the class. "Alright, that is enough for the day. I expect everyone to be here tomorrow with a two page essay about the Three Great Powers by the morning. No excuses. Dismissed." She said, before turning to look at Issei. "Oh, Issei. Please stay put. I need to speak with you." She said. This brought a lot of unwanted attention to the poor human boy, who was now being laughed and snickered at. The Valkyrie didn't say anything nor did she look at them. She seemed cold to Issei, which made him frown. The classroom emptied out of Issei's peers, leaving him and the Valkyrie alone, minus the Freya on the roof. "Alright, I've been asked by The Allfather to give you additional instruction every day after school. Seems you are requiring extra." She said without mercy, making Issei feel like crap.
"I… yes teacher..." Issei said defeated.
"Good." She replied, plopping a large textbook, three times the size of the first one he had opened for his class session. "Get to reading." She said coldly, obviously not a fan of having to teach a human. Issei still hasn't yet figured out that he's a human.
The Valkyrie on the roof frowned a bit at the cruelty her subordinate was showing to Issei, but she sighed as she realized it was for the best. 'The universe is a cruel place… if you can't survive the teasing, the bullying or the hatred that is directed to you… you won't survive Ragnarök.' She thought grimly. She would then smirk. 'But it doesn't mean I can't give you the tools and the confidence to survive.' She relaxed on the roof and watched over the human, staring down at him as he studied Göndul's teaching.
Three hours later, Issei was finally leaving the classroom and making his way down the hallway to the front doors.
"This sucks… my classmates hate me… my teacher hates me… and I'm being forced to go to schools. No friends..." He muttered to himself a little loudly, kicking at a soda can left behind by one of the students. The kick was rather hard due to the frustration and anger coming from the boy, but when the can never made a loud sound after being launched into the air, Issei looked up from his feet, staring at a woman who was holding the can.
"Sounds like you're having trouble fitting in around here." The woman spoke, her voice deep and seductive. Issei didn't respond, just staring at the woman that reminded him of Göndul. "Your mother asked me a question the day you were brought here to Asgard." She decided to continue, tossing the can into a nearby bin full of cans.
"Brought here to Asgard?" Issei interjected with a question. It was then Freya realized that Issei thought of himself as a God of Asgard. His parents hadn't yet told him. She knew he was intelligent and decided to take the fallout from the Allfather and his wife.
"You're from Midgard." She said, staring into the boys eyes. "Your mother took you after your family was killed. You were an infant so it's no wonder you don't remember any of it." She said calmly, sighing. "They seemed to wanted to wait to tell you until you were older… I didn't mean to divulge that but what happened happened. The name's Freya."
"As in… The Queen of the Valkyries?"
"Yea, the one and the same. Goddess of love, fertility, beauty, war." She said, not really caring about all of her titles. It was a mouthful.
"My parents… are dead?" Issei asked to himself, though with the super hearing of the supernatural, Freya heard just fine.
"No. No. No. Your parents are Frigg and Odin." She said, shaking her head in disagreement. "They were the ones who took you in and gave you a home as well as their love. You may have been born to humans, and they might have been your birth parents, but your real parents are Odin and Frigg. It was fated that you were to be here Issei."
Issei closed his eyes and he realized that Frigg and Odin are his parents and that he shouldn't lose sight of that just because he learned everything he knew was wrong.
"Is that why everyone hates me?" He asked after a minute, frowning. "Because I'm human?"
"Afraid so. We don't let humans into Asgard unless they are the fallen warriors that go to Valhalla. We're distrustful of their nature so by default, most of us do not like them. Of course, not all of us hate humans but they aren't very many."
"Do… you hate me?"
"No. I respect strength and resilience. I've had enough hatred in my life that I don't harbor any towards the humans as a whole. It also helps that your mother is a very good friend to me and I trust in her decisions. Now, let us change the subject. Your mother asked me when you were brought to Asgard when you were an infant to make you strong. I didn't decline nor did I accept, as I said I wanted to see if you were worthy of my training."
"Worthy?" He asked, a bit confused.
"Strong in your heart. Your resolve. Your will. Your ability to survive. So far, you've met these expectations so I've decided to take your mother up on her request. So I am going to train you and make you a strong man. A warrior."
"Why would she want that of me… to be a warrior?" He asked, mostly himself.
"I cannot answer why Frigg would want that, but it is expected that Ragnarök is coming someday and everyone must either fight or roll over and die." She said.
"I… how strong will I be?"
"As strong as you can be. You are your only limit." She said confidently. "So, are you going to take up this Goddess on her offer?"
Issei stared at her and ten seconds later, he nodded. "I don't want to disappoint mother." Issei replied. Freya smiled at him warmly.
"She'll always be proud of you. It's the benefit of being a mother." She said, before walking away with Issei by her side.
