Episode 8: Tree's a Crowd

Mew's next adventure has taken them into an unpleasant turn.

"Great, we're lost! And if the blame belongs to anyone, it's you!" Max says angrily towards May.

"Why is it my fault?" May asks.

"I said we should've taken a right turn at the fork in the road, but you insisted on going the other way and now we're lost!" Max says.

But May says, "But this path looked prettier and it had all those awesome flowers. There's nothing more dreamy than strolling through lovely flowers," Then angrily says to Max, "Anyway, who was in charge of the PokéNav? You should've been doing a better job as a navigator!"

"This PokéNav is out of range! Don't blame me!" Max angrily says.

"How convenient!" May says sarcastically.

Brock then breaks them up, "Come on, break it up! No one's to blame! Mew, the others and I got lost all the time, but we don't fight about it.

"That's right. When we were traveling around with Misty, we probably set the record for getting lost, but we always wound up getting to where we wanted to be in the end," Mew says.

The Pokemon agree. However, they can see that Max and May are still mad at each other.

Max angrily says, "This is completely her fault."

Suddenly, something leaps through a nearby tree, catching Mew's attention.

"What is it, Mew?" Tomo asks.

"I saw something!" Mew says.

Everyone looks and sees several Treecko leaping through the tree before one stops and looks at our heroes

"It's a Treecko!" Max says.

"So cool," Jen says

"So this is where they live!" Molly says.

"Let's see," Mew says, bringing out her Pokedex.

Dextette says, "Treecko, the Wood Gecko Pokémon. A Grass Type. Treecko are able to climb smooth, vertical walls and use their thick tail to attack opponents. Since Treecko build their nests in large trees, it is said that those trees will live a very long life."

"They're cute. Look at all of them," May says.

"This must be their territory," Max says.

"There's soo many of them," Molly says.

"I know. Look at them jumping through the trees," Mew says.

"Yeah. I want a Treecko," Tomo says.

"Me too," Mew says.

Soon, the Treecko makes its getaway.

"Now the Treecko's getting away!" Brock says.

"I wonder where they're going," Jen says.

"Let's follow them," Mew says.

"Yeah!" Tomo says.

With thatr, Mew, Pikachu, Eevee, Tomo, Meloetta, and Skwovet follow the Treecko.

Molly calls out, "Hey, Mew! Wait up!"

"Tomo, wait for us!" Jen says.

With that, Molly and Jen chase after them along with Amaura.

Then Max says, "Hurry up! Let's go!"

May zooms past, "I've seen Slugma slither faster than you!"

"You look like a Slugma!" Max shouts in anger, and runs after her.

"It's heartwarming to see them get along so well," Brock says.

Everyone proceeds after Mew and the others. Far up ahead, Mew, Tomo, and their Pokemon run through the forest looking for the Treecko

"Alright, where're you hiding? Treecko?" Mew says to herself.

Mew soon see a gigantic tree in the distance

"That tree," Mew says.

Suddenly, Mew trups on the roof of the tree.

"Mew!" Tomo calls out.

Mew is able to land on her feet, but slides all the way down to the base of the three. When she looks up, Mew realizes just how big and tall the tree is.

"It's huge!" Mew says.

Soon, Tomo, and the Pokemon come up to Mew.

Pikachu calls out, "Pika Pi!" (Mew!)

"Eevee?" (Are you okay?"

"I'm okay," Mew says and looks at the tree, "But look, the tree ist so big! Seems almost magical."

"Pika!Eevee!" (Awesome!) Pikachu and Eevee reply.

But Mew also notices, "But it, looks like it's dying."

"Eevee," (You're right.) Eevee says.

Meloetta notices it herself, "Loetta," (It's not looking good.)

Suddenly, a stick lands right in the first, pointy end first.

"What's that?" Tomo asks.

They look up and see a Treecko with a twig in its hand before it puts it in its mouth.

"It's a Treecko," Tomo says.

Mew shouts, "Hey! Cut it out! Why don't you come down and we'll battle?!"

"Pika Pika!" (Come and get me!) Pikachu says.

The Treecko leaps up to a higher branch, surprising the group

"Whoa," Mew and Tomo reply

The Treecko leaps from branch to branch before spitting its twig and Pikachu, who promptly dodges it, only to give the Treecko the opening to attack Pikachu with its tail, sending him flying into the tree.

"Pikachu!" Mew cries out.

Pikachu slides down the tree, but gets back on his feet as the Treecko dares him to approach and try again. Pikachu charges in, but Treecko leaps out of the way. Pikachu tries again, but with the same result before Treecko lands another successful attack with its tail, only for Pikachu to get right back up. All the while, Team Rocket watches the struggle.

"Very impressive. That Treecko's unbeatable," Jessie says.

"There's really no need for Pikachu if we had that," James says.

And Meowth says, "You know, I bet da boss would be trilled at havin' us bring dis Treecko to him!"

Yeah!"" Jessie and James agree

Meowth has a fantasy of just what Giovanni would do with a Treecko as he says, "He'll wake up from his daily dose, wit a Treecko tail rubbin' his nose. Treecko will look after his needs each day, gently massaging his cares away. Leavin' da boss so happy and relaxed, he'll say: 'For catchin' dis Treecko Pokémon, I tink Meowth an' his team desoive a promotion. I'm appointin' you directors of da Hoenn Branch!'"

Jessie happily says, "It's the promotion we've been waiting for!"

"I can use all my leadership skills!" James says.

"Go Team Rocket at da speed of light!" Meowth says.

Soon Wobbuffet says, "Wobbuffet," (Oh, so right!)

Then James says, "Ooh! Look! That one Treecko has become a ton of Treecko!"

Jessie and Meowth panic as they see several Treecko confronting the one that was battling Pikachu. One of the Treecko approaches the battling one while Mew checks on Pikachu

"Are you okay, Pikachu?" Mew asks.

"Pikachu," (I'm okay.) Pikachu answers.

"That Treecko sure put up a good fight," Mew says.

"Pika Pika!" (He's a tough one!) Pikachu says.

The Treecko puts a twig into its mouth as an elder Treecko approaches him from the group.

"That Treecko looks older than the others," Tomo says.

"Loetta," (Probably the elder of the group.) Meloetta says.

"I think you're right," Tomo says.

"Wonder if there's a problem," Mew says.

"Eevee," (Maybe.) Eevee says.

The elder Treecko tries to convince the fighter to do something, but the fighter refuses to listen and then pushes the elder away, having heard enough. The younger Treecko attempts to retaliate, but the elder keeps them back.

"That's weird. Looks like he's not very good buddies with the other Treecko," Tomo says.

"Skwovet," (Seems so.) Skwovet says.

"There's a disagreement alright," Mew says.

Team Rocket continues to watch from the far.

"Ooh, we have a dispute here. I love watching other people's troubles," Jessie says.

Then turns to Meowth, "Come on, Meowth. Translate for us."

"Count on me," Meowth says.

The elder Treecko explains something to the rebel as Meowth listens in.

Meowth translates, "Ooh! It's sayin', "What do you tink dat you're doing? Dis tree here is dyin'. Its only chance is if you go live in another tree, cause if you stay here, it'll die and you'll be ruined.'"

Go on. Go on," Jessie says.

The rebel Treecko rebuttals.

Meowth translates, "'It's too soon ta write off dis tree. I was born in dose branches and dey've always been my shelta.'

The rebel Treecko continues to verbally defend its home.

Meowth says in tears, "'Now it's my toin to protect dis tree. Whatevah happens, I'll say wit it to de end.' Treecko! So much heroism and pride!" As Meowth admires Treecko's heroism and pride.

He and James start shedding tears.

"A weaker person would be moved to tears by that story!" James says in tears.

"That's not heroic," Jessie points out.

James and Meowth's tears quickly stop upon hearing Jessie's words.

"Life's all about exchanging old things for new. Especially when it comes to homes and...and boyfriends!" Jessie says.

James and Meowth just sweatdrop.

"Homes and boyfriends?!" James questions,

"Are you sure?" Meowth adds.

"Yes, I'm sure," Jessie says, "You should always strive for something new. For without change, there's no progress, and is the future! So, living in a rotten, old, dried up tree…" And turns away, "Is not exactly my idea of progress."

Then James says, "I think the Treecko are leaving."

Jessie turns and sees that James was right as the elder Treecko and the rest of the group take their leave

"Alright! On behalf of Team Rocket, I'm launching our 'Catch all the Treecko you can' plan!" Jessie says.

"Yeah!" The guys agees

"I'm brilliant!" Jessie says.

"She's brilliant!" The boys says.

Team Rocket cheer, "Go, Team Rocket!"

"Wobbuffet!" (Let's get to it!) Wobbuffet adds.

Meanwhile, all the Treecko vanish from sight.

The Treecko looks up at its home, smiles and climbs up it

"Treecko!" Mew calls out.

The Treecko runs along one of the longer branches and leaps off of it and onto a ledge and into the woods.

"Treecko, come back! Don't run off!" Mew calls out.

But the Treecko is already gone into the woods.

Mew soon looks up to see the Pokemon on the tree.

Pikachu calls out, "Pikachu! Pika Pika!" (Come on! We'll wait for it!)

Mew says, "Good idea, Pikachu! Since the Treecko lives in that tree, we should wait here for it."

'And we get to see a great view too," Tomo says.

"Plus, if we climb up the trees the others can see us," Mew says.

"Then let's go," Tomo says.

Elsewhere, the rest of the group are having lunch.

"What do you guys think happened to Mew, Tomo, and the others?" Max wonders.

"Yeah. I wonder about it too," Jen says.

May cheerfully says, "Who cares? Let's just all enjoy Brock's delicious cooking."

"Thank you," Brock says.

"How can you be hungry and think about food when Mew and Tomo might be in danger?" Max asks.

May angrily says to Max, "You'll be in danger if you don't stop bugging me, so just give me your food if you don't want it!"

"No!" Max cries out and holds his plate away, "I didn't actually say I couldn't eat it! Hands off!"

"They're probably fine. There's no need for us to be worrying about those two. Mew's always getting into scrapes, but with Pikachu and Eevee, she'll be okay.

"Same with Tomo, Meloetta, and Swkovet," Molly says.

"That's true," Jen says.

Then Brock says, "So we can go look for them after we finish eating."

"Kay," Everyone replies.

Meanwhile, Mew, Tomo, and the Pokemon are still sitting up on a branch of the old tree, watching the sunset.

"I hope Brock and the others aren't too worried about us," Tomo says.

"Skwovet," (Me too.) Skwovet says.

"Yeah, but I want to wait for Treecko. I can't help but worry about him," Mew says.

Soon, some Murkrow fly past the setting sun

"Some Murkrow," Mew says.

That gives her an idea, "I know! I'll use Taillow!"

And Mew calls out Taillow

Mew calls out, "Taillow, I need you to find Brock and the others and bring them here while we wait for Treecko."

"Taillow," (Okay.) Taillow says before flying off.

"Thanks, Taillow!" Mew says.

Soon Pikachu quietly says, "Pika Pika." (Look who's down there.)

Everyone looks down and spots the Treecko pulling a leaf filled with water.

"Look like your idea worked, Pikachu," Mew says.

"Pikachu," (Right on cue.) Pikachu says.

The Treecko tips the leaf forward and waters the tree before putting leaves on the spot where the water hit the ground. The Treecko then wraps up the leaf and leaves.

"Treecko's doing everything it can to save this tree from dying," Mew says.

"Eevee." (Sure is.) Eevee says.

Tomo turns to Mew, "But do you think it's too late for it?"

"It's hard to say. The tree is already looking really old," Mew says.

"Loetta," (Poor tree.) Meloetta says.

Mew then says, "Maybe we can help him."

Meanwhile, the Treecko gathers more water for the tree, long into the night. All the while, the group watches on. Soon, Mew, Tomo, and the Pokemon climb down from the tree and meet up with Treecko. Then Mew and the others do the same as Treecko's doing.

"Hi Treecko," Mew says.

"Treecko?" (Huh?) Treecko says, confused and turns to see the group.

Treecko doesn't understand at first.

Mew says to Treecko, "We don't want to battle, Treecko. We just want to try and help you save this old tree."

Everyone nods in agreement.

The Treecko was surprised, but happy with the help. Soon, Mew and the others along with Treecko are seen carrying water back to the tree, but soon hear an explosion and look up to find it's coming from the tree. Up ahead, a bulldozer is seen ramming into another tree, causing multiple Treecko to fall out and into a net before revealing that the bulldozer is another Team Rocket machine just as Mew and the others, along with Treecko show up.

"What's going on?!" Mew asks.

The machine charges towards the group.

"What is that thing?!" Tomo asks.

The machine manages to send the group flying backward, but while Mew and the others land on the ground, the Treecko land safely on the body of a tree

"What do you think you're doing?!" Mew demands.

And with that, Team Rocket appears with the motto.

Jessie:

Prepare for trouble, and that's a threat!

James:

This time, what's double is our net!

Jessie:

To protect the world from devastation.

James:

To unite all peoples within our nation.

Jessie:

To denounce the evils of truth and love.

James:

To extend our reach to the stars above.

Jessie:

Jessie.

James:

James.

Jessie:

Team Rocket blast off again at the speed of light.

James:

Surrender now or prepare to fight, fight, fight!

Meowth:

Dat's right!

Wobbuffet:

WOBBUFFET! (End of scene!)

"TEAM ROCKET!" Mew exclaims in shock and anger.

"Not you three again!" Tomo adds.

And then, the Meowth balloon soon inflates.

"An electrifying plan!" Jessie says.

"Now let us enlighten you!" James says.

"Dese Treecko belong ta us!" Meowht adds.

"Oh, no you don't! Pikachu, Eevee, Thunderbolt em, now!" Mew calls out.

The attack lands, but Team Rocket is unharmed, as evidenced by their fake screaming

"Ha. Just kidding," Jessie says.

"This fabulous balloon is fitted with electric blocking devices!"

"In that case, I'll…" Mew says, but realizes something, "Oh, no! I sent Taillow away!"

"Aw, too bad," Meowth says, and uses one of the nets scoops up Pikachu and Eevee

Both Pokemon cry out, "Pika Pi!/Eevee! (Mew)

"No! Pikachu! Eevee!" Mew cries out.

Just then, the Treecko climbs up the tree it landed on.

"Da boss will boist his buttons when we bring him dese Treecko, Pikachu, and Eevee!" Meowth says.

The Treecko spits its twig at the balloon, catching Team Rocket's attention.

Meowth notices, "Huh?"

Jessie laughs, "You thought you could bring us down by attacking with a twig?"

James then calls out, "I choose you, Cacnea, Pin Missile!"

Cacnea comes out and fires the attack, but Treecko grabs another twig, puts it in its mouth and dodges just in time.

"What Pokemon is that?" Tomo asks.

"It looks like a Cacnea," Mew says and gets out her Pokedex.

Dextette says, "Cacnea, the Cactus Pokémon. A Grass Pokemon. Cacnea lives primarily in dry desert areas and attacks by swinging its pin covered arms like hammers."

"Looks like Team Rocket got themselves a new Pokemon," Mew says.

Mew calls out, "Pikachu! Eevee

James says to Cacnea, "Now, ready for your first mission? Go and catch that irritating Treecko."

Treecko climbs up the tree, leaps up to the balloon and smacks Jessie with its tail, causing her to back into the button that opens the cage beneath the balloon allowing them to escape while one of them rescues Pikachu and Eevee as Team Rocket tries to catch the one that attacked Jessie

Jessie cries out, "Hold it!"

"You shouldn't run in a balloon, guys!" James panics.

"Someone catch it!" Meowth shouts.

As Team Rocket talks and tries to catch the Treecko, it knocks them all out before it climbs and clings onto the balloon and taunts Cacnea. Cacnea falls for it and fires a Pin Missile at the balloon, ripping a hole in it

Team Rocket cries out, "Oh no!"

The free Treecko manages to rescue Pikachu and Eevee by breaking the net arm while they land in the tree top and the Meowth balloon flies off.

"Don't hang on to me! Hang on to someone else!" James panics.

Team Rocket cries out, "Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off again!"

"Wobbuffet! ("Not again!") Wobbuffet cries out.

Mew rushes over, "Pikachu! Eevee!"

Both of the Pokemon happily run to Mew and the three embrace each other.

Then Mew says to the Treeckos, "Hey, guys. Thank you."

"Pika Pika!" (We're in your debt.) Pikachu says.

The Treecko accepted the thanks. Later, at the old dead tree, the other Treecko talks to the rebellious one before finally getting it to agree to leaving the old tree.

"Looks like they're all friends again," Tomo says.

Suddenly, they all hear a cracking sound and see a crack forming from the base of the tree and climbing up rapidly before the whole thing split in half. The elder Treecko urges the others to stop the two halves from falling down.

"Oh no!" Mew cries out.

"What can we do?" Tomo asks.

Then Mew has an idea, "Hey, I know!" And takes off her backpack, "I have a rope!"

The Treecko do struggle to keep the halves from falling. Soon, the sun rises and a glow is soon seen from inside the tree, amazing everyone. Within the glow, was a seed. which sprouts into another tree.

Mew is amazed, "Look at that! A brand new tree's been born right in front of our eyes!"

"That's amazing," Tomo says, astonished.

One of the blossoming flowers soon loses its petals and another seed drops from the bud, followed by others, which grow into saplings, replacing the trees that Team Rocket destroyed while the main tree grows bigger. But then, it all fades away, the saplings, the new trees, leaving only the dead, split one. On cue, the two halves fall. The two halves fall with a thud before a seed rolls to the feet of the rebel Treecko before Mew approaches.

Mew kneels to Treecko, "Hey, Treecko. I think that tree was trying to say thank you for for helping it."

"Eevee!" (I believe so.) Eevee says.

"I agree.) Pikachu says.

"Yeah," Tomo agrees, so does Meloetta and Skwovet.

Suddenly, the Treecko attacks.

Mew cries out, "Hey! Why did you do that for?!"

The Treecko then turns to the tree, smiles, and then turns back to Mew.

Soon, Mew understands, "Oh I get it. You wanna battle us, huh," She then smiles, "Alright, let's battle!"

"Pika Pika!" (Then let's do it!) Pikachu agrees.

Meanwhile, Taillow leads the rest of the group towards Mew and her group

"Can't you run any faster, Max?" May says.

"Not with you in the way!" Maz shouts.

Soon, Brock notices, "Hey, look!"

They soon see Mew and the others.

"There they are," Jen says.

"Mew is about to battle!" Max says.

Mew calls out, "Pikachu, Thunderbolt!"

Pikachu launches the attack, but Treecko dodges, several times until one finally hits. But Treecko withstands it and leaps forward.

"Treecko's strong!" May says.

"And electric attacks don't have much effect on grass Pokémon!" Max says.

"That's not good! Look how fast Treecko is! Pikachu doesn't have a chance against a Pokemon that fast, especially starting with a disadvantage!" May says, worried.

"Don't forget, this is Mew and Pikachu we're talking about. I know they'll find a way to beat it," Jen says.

Molly nods.

Treecko manages to keep up with Pikachu before smacking him with its tail.

"We gotta try something else, Pikachu! This isn't over yet!" Mew calls out, "Quick Attack, Pikachu, now!"

Pikachu darts in, but Treecko leaps to avoid it.

Brock calls out, "Now's your chance!"

Then Mew calls out, "Pikachu, Thunderbolt, go!"

Pikachu launches the attack, causing some of the ground to part before hitting Treecko.

May and Max cry out, "Oh, no!"

Treecko soon falls

"How'd an electric attack work on a grass Pokémon?!" Max asks.

Then Brock says, "Well, I'll tell you. Pokemon that are strong against electric attacks are usually so because they diffuse it into trees or the ground. But they're not able to do that in midair. There's more that decides a battle, than the disadvantages."

"Oh," Max says.

Mew then throws her Pokeball, "Go, Pokéball!"

The Pokéball hits, warbles, wobbles and finally pings.

Mew picks up her Pokeball, "Alright! I caught Treecko.

Pikachu and Eevee cheer about Mew catching a new friend.

Pi Pikachu! (Another catch!)

Later, Mew lets out her new Treecko friend.

Mew asks, "Treecko, do you want to come and travel with us?"

Treecko nods before the elder presents him with the seed from the old tree.

Mew says, "The elder said you have one last job, and said you should plant it."

Soon, the seed is planted. And before long, our heroes head on their way.

"So long, everyone! Look after the trees!" Mew says.

The other Treecko bid the humans farewell.

Everyone calls out, "Goodbye, Treecko!"

Even all the Pokemon call out.

Suddenly, Tomo feels something tugging on his hand. He looks down to see a smaller Treecko, and this one has a flower on the little sticks in its mouth.

"Hey little guy, what is it?" Tomo asks.

The little Treecko extends its arm to Tomo.

Mew giggles, "Looks like this little Treecko wants to travel with you."

"Really?" Tomo asks.

The Treecko nods.

Tomo takes Treecko's hand, "Of course. You can come."

The smaller Treecko hops on Tomo's shoulder.

Max laughs, "Looks like you caught a Treecko as well."

"Yeah. I think I'll call you… hmm… Willow," Tomo says.

"Treecko," The little Treecko happily says.

May giggles, "I think it likes it."

Soon, Mew and the others take their leave with their new Pokemon friends. They continue on their adventure to Rustboro City.
