I admit that things have been quite peaceful.
Enough for me to exploit the relative calm to grind as it was fucking possible for me. Between hitting the gym, sparring with Shiranui twice and crafting new stuff, I felt like I had achieved a lot for the ensuing SM-related business. I wasn't sure for other stuff, but I was twice stronger and even more than the last week or two.
I didn't have any genuine worry whatsoever in terms of power creeps considering that I had been hitting on several goals in less time than I had expected, and the end result was that I was several steps closer to get my Moon Cave fully operative. I had found the right building, bought a few stuff for the electric situation and I had... a good place where to rest during shifts.
And also Leveled Up a lot between sparring and completing the Quest.

That's going to give me an interesting way to make money beyond kicking criminals' asses.
Still, the real delight for me was that things were fine. I was already setting plans for the next events, I was bacing for Minako's return, and I was considering if I should get the Outer Guardians involved a season earlier. I already could tell they were going to discover their powers soon, so it could be fun to have these two involved. Or three if for some magical reason I can find Setsuna and have her become Sailor Pluto.
I was really interested in that opportunity, but I refused to give it a go on Season 1 considering that could have fucked the Timeline in a way I didn't like. What if that triggers Chibi Usa's arrival from the future far earlier than she should have?
I decided to just ignore this opportunity due to the potential drawbacks outweighing the rewards, and focused more on self-improvement. I was strong, I could keep up to some extent with Shiranui and... Tokyo was becoming less and less troubled by criminality.
I have to admit that facing the Yakuza as a Superhero was as thrilling as worrisome at times. I mean, they tended to get aggressive after a while when it came to cops busting their operations, but I have hardly seen any retaliation against me. I wasn't sure why, but I was hopeful this has nothing to do with something far bigger than the usual.
In the mean time, I would go out of my room for my nightly routine and went to check my Moon Cave. The place had been cleaned up, fitted with independent electric generators, and given the kind of furniture I needed to store books, resources and chemicals. The last bit wasn't as simple to buy, but I was taking my time to get it done as legally as possible.
I was busy finishing a 'Moon Shield' when I decided to go on patrol.
I was totally ripping off Captain America about it, but I was struggling in finding the right material and the right amount of 'skill' to use to get it done right. I had nothing that could fit with Vibranium, but I was going to eventually experiment on hybrid or new artificial minerals if this wasn't going to lead anywhere.
After turning the lights off and closing doors and windows, I proceeded to go through my usual routine... and quickly noticed how quiet the streets were. Like, it wasn't a normal kind of quiet- not the kind that would come when it was meant to be a peaceful night.
Something was happening, something that had my senses on high alert as I moved around trying to find the source of this instinctual unease. Rushing and soaring from roof to roof, I finally stumbled on something that sounded promising..
"P-Please, keep away!" The woman sounded incredibly terrorized, yet this wasn't a mere case of mugging.
Not when the mugger had been chopped to pieces and the purse that had been stolen by the woman was being given back from her 'savior'.
"What? Is this the way to thank the one that helped you, miss? Aren't you being a bit rude~?" The hooded boy that had aided the woman remarked with a hint of anger and dark displeasure.

Jesus Christ, that's a lot of HPs.
But the low level gave me hope that this guy, who felt familiar but I couldn't recognize at the moment, could be wrecked due to his potential low DEF stats. And as I descended and snatched the purse to be given to the woman, I made first contact in rather the cold manner. The woman tensed up at my descent, but looked relieved as she recognized me, picking the purse off my hand and nodding before leaving silently.
"That's... interesting. She trusted you even though I was the one that helped her."
"You didn't do it to help her. You didn't need to kill the criminal to 'help' her. You wanted her to bow to you, didn't you?"
The boy... smiled.
"I suppose that's one way to call it. But still, I finally found you, Moon Knight," The boy remarked. "My name is Kuroto and I seek my own Knight. Tragically, I can't rely on those Hell Knights skanks. So you will do just fine."
"I believe a choice goes both way. And I am leaning on refusing it, sir," I remarked dryly and his smile widened.
"Ah yes, people and their morals and ideals. But nothing matters in the business of power."
As he said this, pressure exploded from within his body, and his power was now evident to me. And holy fuck, this was going to be a rough battle.

"Take this!" Kuroto rushed fast, cocking a punch and... failing to connect.

Instead, he found a knee slamming against his left ribs and pushing him away. He recoiled with a hint of surprise and confusion, trying to make sense of what happened. Meanwhile, I had drawn an assumption which, as the boy resumed his assault, proved to be correct.
Despite him having a lot more power than me as each punch and kick carried enough to halve my HPs, I realized his low Level was tied to a lack of training and experience. Kuroto was not that good in live combat, not against an opponent as similar-matched to his skills as me.
He didn't seem to realize quickly enough as I continued to wreck his HPs with some counters, slamming him on the wall a few times and then wrecking a few strange eldritch extensions coming from his shadow trying to bite me down with the use of a few explosive Moon Cutters.
It eventually got to the point where I had gone through roughly a third of his Health Points in less than a few minutes, the damage still easy to perceive for my foe despite him having no means to know how bad the situation was for him through the Gaming system.

The swinging emotions sure do be feeling wild right now.
"How about you just call quits, pal? I have stuff to do, homework to get done and sleep that-!" I didn't notice the tentril that had emerged from his shadow and taken hold of my right leg.
"You and I are not 'pals'!"
I raised my arms to block the mutated right arm of his as he slammed it at me, dark energy pushing through and, much to my surprise and horror, tearing part of my Moon Knight armor.

Still, I manifested my sword and cut the tendril, seeing it burn back into Kuroto's shadow as the boy paused a moment.
"Hmm, odd eyes, you got."
My right eye and some of my blonde hair was exposed now, but I didn't give it too much attention. Instead, I kicked him on the face and decided to do something quite risky.

I glared at the bastard, red eyes trying to appear defiant but he was tired and depleted. He had tried to regenerate, but I had punched through most of his energy and this last beating had truly screwed with what was left of his regeneration for this fight.
"Y-Yes-"
"What? I can't hear you, demon!"
"Yes, I- I will not cause problems in this realm anymore! I swear!"
And I let him go, feeling dizzy as I thought it had to do with using so much SPs all at once. I just left him there to try and stand up in the alley. I just moved away, knowing I needed some much needed hours of sleep. And as I made it back to my room, I tiredly settled on bed and... noticed that a certain cat had been waiting on my pillow.
Luna was asleep, but I have a feeling tomorrow was going to be a rather interesting day to explain where I have been through the entire night...

Kuroto is actually Edwin Black's son in this timeline rather than a 'fusion' of him and Kotaro. He is a pure-blooded vampire, deemed by many as Edwin's proper heir, but the Lord of Nomad never hesitates to correct people and remind them that his loyal daughter Felicia is the oldest thus the heiress.
While this detail should piss him off, he is actually fine shredding away his father's legacy to carve his own path. Sadly for him, he may have inherited more than just his arrogance and power from Edwin, as now he has someone to obsess after.
