Sir Nighteye sighed, "The nerve. What are you doing with your face? Is this a joke to you?"

Izuku replied, "Uh, no, I guess not."

Nighteye continued, "You attempted this blasphemous excuse of an impression on All Might's former sidekick? All Might's wrinkles aren't like this at all. You fool. In his early days, his crows' feet were 0.6 centimeters long. From the Silver Age on they were 0.8. These days, even unlicensed merchandise manages to have the correct wrinkles in the correct era. But you don't even know that much?"

Danny looked around the room, there was All Might memorabilia everywhere. "And I thought Izuku was the big All Might nerd."

Izuku realized that Sir Nighteye was a serious All Might fanboy, especially since he had a copy of the unreleased tenth anniversary poster.

Sir Nighteye then said, "I don't care for this one bit. You can see yourself out." He then looked over at Danny, "So what do you have to say? Are you going to be insulting, too?"

Before Danny could say anything, Izuku interrupted, "The vinegar river incident. Are you not aware of it, sir? A middle schooler whose Quirk allowed him to change the properties of water was drowning in a river. But All Might stepped in and saved him. The drowning kid panicked and accidentally turned the river into vinegar. Which obviously ended up getting in All Might's eyes. His face looked slightly different from normal after. That smile. Those narrowed eyes. That's the look I chose to impersonate earlier."

Nighteye said, "I know this rescue. Although it took place before I teamed up with him. And I believe they mentioned it briefly on the widely-run television special entitled A Look Back."

Izuku shouted, "Yes, I love that show! I know there weren't any villains involved, so some people think it was a boring save. I'm sure that's why the fans don't talk about it much, but I really like it for some reason! Honestly, I think the best part of the whole thing is the witty response he gave after being thanked by the kid he rescued!"

Nighteye said the quote, "My skin feels ten years younger."

Izuku grinned, "That's it! It was the perfect one-liner!"

Nighteye realized, "Now I see. You were just testing me."

Izuku shook his head, "On, no! It's just that, since All Might is a teacher at my school, I never really got the chance to geek out about him. I maybe got a little excited."

Nighteye walked over to him, "As I recall, it turned out the child's volatile homelife was to blame."

Izuku nodded, "That's right. And that made All Might's actions and words carry even more weight, I bet!"

Mirio noticed that Danny wasn't behind him anymore. He looked around and saw that Danny was over getting Bubble Girl out of the contraption Sir Nighteye put her in. Bubble Girl said, "Thank you. Who are you? And who's that with you? He's loud."

Danny replied, "I'm Danny Fenton. And that's Izuku Midoriya. We go to UA High just like Mirio."

Mirio was impressed that Danny helped Bubble Girl out. And even though Izuku failed to make Nighteye laugh, the green haired boy was actually making a good first impression."

Nighteye looked over at Danny, "Who said you could take her out of that?"

Danny looked over at Nighteye, "She looked like she needed help. And I always save people who need help. It's in my nature."

Nighteye said, "I see. Let me ask you this. Do you feel there needs to be more humor and energy in today's world?"

Danny thought for a moment, then answered, "Humor is a good thing for people to have and it can help bring happiness to those who need it. As for energy, it can be hard to be energetic when everything seems to knock you down, but if you have hope and courage, then you can find that energy that you need. But, I believe that there are times to be silly, and there are times to be serious. I think I got that quote right."

Nighteye was confused, "Quote?"

Danny nodded, "From Veggietales. It's an American cartoon with talking vegetables. Silly Songs is one of their segments. Always made me laugh. That quote was when they parodied a boys' band and sang about not having a belly button."

Nighteye replied while silently laughing, "I've heard of that. Interesting. Very well."

Sir Nighteye sat down at his desk and heard about why Izuku and Danny were there. "Interesting. Midoriya, you want to do a work study here because you think that doing so will make you stronger. And Fenton, despite the thousands of offers you've gotten based on your sports festival win and the fact that you've fought alongside All Might, you want to do a work study here."

Izuku replied, "Yes, sir! Please let me!"

Danny added, "I would love the opportunity to work for you."

Nighteye said, "We'd need to draw up a contract."

Izuku quickly pulled one out of his backpack, "Of course! Yes! I brought one."

Nighteye said, "You will not interrupt me while I'm speaking to you."

Izuku handed Nighteye the contract, "Sorry, sir."

Nighteye turned to Danny, "Do you have a contract?"

Danny nodded as he reached into his backpack and handed it to Nighteye, who continued, "Once I stamp these two documents, you two will officially be contracted with my agency for a work study."

Izuku bowed, "Yes, sir!"

Danny added, "Understood, sir."

Nighteye continued, "You both have to understand that this will be nothing like the week long internships that you students take on so casually. You must work here for a minimum of four months and will be paid wages. However, your academic responsibilities will likely suffer due to absences you'll rack up. Which means your classmates will pull ahead of you."

Izuku replied, "I understand that. But if I worry about what everyone else is doing, I'll never be number one."

Danny said, "I'm used to missing classes back in the states because of….extracurricular activities, so I have learned how to balance both school and work."

Nighteye raised his hand that had a stamp in it and stamped down, but not on either one of the contracts.

Izuku was confused, "Um. I think you missed."

Nighteye said, "Because I am not approving of this. More specifically, I want to know how you two working here will benefit me and my agency. This office currently runs smoothly, with two sidekicks and one work study student already under my employ. So why would I add not one, but two other work study students? How can you two contribute to society? How can you two be useful to others? In order to be acknowledged, you two must be able to answer those questions unequivocally."

Before Nighteye could go on, Danny answered the two questions, "I can contribute myself to society by helping others. I know that's a generic answer, but like I said earlier, it's in my nature to save people. I can't stand by and watch someone suffer who needs help. If someone needs saving, I'll be there. And that's also how I can be useful to others. And even though I may be having a bad day or I am feeling pain inside, I will face the world with a smile and wisecracks to show that nothing will get in the way of my duty to help others."

Nighteye turned to Danny, "I thought I asked you not to interrupt me. However, you have a point, Mr. Fenton. I have heard through the grapevine that you shout witty remarks to your foes and that seems to lighten the mood. I'll consider your words." He then turned back to Izuku, "What about you? Can you answer those two questions? All Might showed his worth using power and humor. He gave hope to those who lived in fear of criminals. That's why the people were happy to acknowledge him."

Izuku nodded, "You're right. I need to find out how I can help the world."

Sir Nighteye then stood up, "It's time to show me what you would bring to the table. Using actions, not words. Midoriya, you have three minutes to try and take this seal from me. If you want to work as a hero under my guidance, then stamp that contract yourself."

Izuku was confused, "Wait, what?"

Nighteye continued, "I'm saying that even though you don't appear to possess a single ounce of humor in your body, I'm still giving you a chance." He pointed to Mirio and Bubble Girl, "The two of you, go wait outside. Take Fenton with you. He'll have his chance."

Mirio and Bubble Girl replied, "Sir, yes, sir!"

"Once more with feeling," Nighteye retorted.

"Sir, yes, sir!" Mirio and Bubble Girl shouted.

The two of them went outside with Danny and Bubble Girl asked Mirio, "So, did you have to do a practical interview like that?"

Mirio shook his head, "No, Sir asked for me specifically, so I didn't have to jump through hoops or anything."

Bubble Girl replied, "Geez, you really are his golden boy. Must be nice. I can't believe I'm jealous of a high school kid." She turned to Danny, "Are you going to make me jealous, too?"

Danny shrugged, "I don't know." But internally, he was worried about Izuku. He secretly created a duplicate that turned invisible and phased into Nighteye's office. The duplicate stayed invisible and quiet.

Nighteye turned back to Izuku, "I'll take no offensive measures during this time, and you're welcome to attack me in any manner you desire. Don't concern yourself with what happens to the room. Just come and get it."

Izuku activated One For All, and charged at Sir Nighteye, who said, "An approach from the front, but it's merely a feint and a failed grab. And then another jump attack, to no avail. I can see everything."

Izuku kept attacking and Nighteye kept dodging. Danny's duplicate was trying to figure out how Nighteye was doing it.

Nighteye asked, "Is that all you've got? I thought you were attempting to show me your usefulness. This is a waste of time."

Outside, Danny was waiting nervously as Mirio got a soda out of a vending machine.

Bubble Girl said, "He's really stringing that kid along."

Mirio replied, "I know, right?"

Danny could hear the noises coming from the office. He could tell that Izuku was giving it his all, but he would have a better idea once his duplicate came back.

In the office Nighteye sighed, "One minute passes. He backs up briefly. And appears nervous. Finally understanding that he can't overcome my Foresight. The activation requirements are secret."

Izuku was starting to freak out. Danny's duplicate was wondering if Nighteye knew he was there, but noticed that he was only focused on Izuku, meaning his Quirk only focuses on one person at a time.

Nighteye continued, "I had high expectations of you. You have the power to become a symbol, but you're mediocre. Meanwhile, villains everywhere are getting restless, and gloom is creeping closer. A pity. All Might chose wrong after all. Mirio should have inherited that power."

Izuku asked, "What are you talking about? Chose wrong after all?"

Danny's duplicate was shocked by this info.

Sir Nighteye said, "Don't get me wrong, I do love and respect All Might. But I don't understand why he chose you. How can you succeed him?"

Izuku was shocked, but understood that there were other candidates for One For All before him. Danny's duplicate knew that there needed to be a conversation with All Might and soon.

Nighteye asked, "You think you have time to stand there frozen? Or are you just getting tired, running out of ideas? I was honestly a bit curious when Mirio told me that he was going to bring you and Fenton here to introduce the two of you. But it turns out it was a waste of time, in your case. There is a candidate who is far worthier of inheriting One For All than you. As such, I cannot acknowledge you."

Izuku remembered the words All Might said to him, about becoming a hero. He was more determined than ever to get that stamp.

Izuku declared, "I'm going to take that stamp from you. I swear. I will make you acknowledge me." He bounced all around the room, off the walls, ceiling, and floor, trying to move as fast as possible so that Nighteye wouldn't have any time to think, since he didn't know how far into the future Nighteye could see.

Izuku tried a grab from behind, but Nighteye dodged, "Gran Torino's style. But you're a mere shadow of the original. For the next hour, provided the conditions are met. I can see what you'll do, wherever you go. In case you're interested, two minutes from now you'll be slumped on the floor with neither the seal nor the contract. You've looked unsure since this trial began. But All Might certainly must have taught you better than that. Fear and indecision are luxuries a top-tier hero can't afford. Someone who understands that will always act with vision and purpose. You must've been told this countless times, but now, when your training's being put to the test, you choke. You said you would make me acknowledge you, but the more I see, the more convinced I become that you will ultimately fail."

Danny's duplicate could tell that Izuku was getting frustrated and Nighteye kept taunting Izuku. He knew that Nighteye was testing his friend, but he still wanted to punch the guy in the face.

Izuku shouted, "He said I could do it!"

Nighteye taunted, "Who said that? One of your little friends?"

Izuku launched himself at Nighteye, "The greatest hero the world has ever seen! And my greatest friend in the whole world! They both believe in me!" Nighteye dodged his attack, and Izuku went for a bookcase and threw it, causing papers to fly everywhere. "Sorry! But you said not to worry about the room, right?" He wanted to test his theory about Nighteye's Quirk, so he used the scattered papers as a distraction. "Whether you like it or not, I am All Might's successor!"

He launched himself at Nighteye, but the pro hero dodged, "That doesn't alter what I see."

"Not yet!" But suddenly Izuku recognized something he was about to hit and changed his trajectory and face-planted into the wall, sliding down to the floor, "I'm not done."

Sir Nighteye said, "It's over."

Izuku argued back, "No it's not!"

Nighteye pointed to the clock, "Three minutes have passed. You're All Might's chosen successor? It beggars belief. You devised only a single plan, and it failed spectacularly. Leaving you worn out."

Izuku replied, "I didn't botch this test because I'm tired."

"Then what happened?" Nighteye asked.

Izuku answered, "I realized I was about to step on the poster for All Might's tenth anniversary as a hero, the one that was never for sale."

Nighteye realized, "Don't tell me. He was in constant motion, jumping as Gran Torino would, and yet he still managed to avoid every image of All Might in the room? Even emotionally off-balance from my provocations, he formulated a strategy to defeat me and remained aware of his surroundings." He then let out a soft chuckle.

Mirio and Bubble Girl burst through the door, "And cue our well-timed return!" Danny was behind them and felt his duplicate come back to him and he received everything that was seen and heard. He was silently proud of Izuku.

Bubble Girl asked, "You're done, right, Sir? That loud bang at the end sounded pretty final."

Sir Nighteye turned to Mirio, "I'll take Mirdoriya, Mirio."

Mirio cheered, "That's awesome."

Izuku was confused.

Nighteye turned to Danny, "I could test you as well, Fenton, although given your talents, I feel you don't need to."

"What?" Danny and Izuku shouted.

Danny said, "That's not fair. Izuku gets tested and I don't? I will do your challenge, too."

Nighteye shrugged, "If you insist. I can have Midoriya wait outside with….."

But then Nighteye suddenly tensed up. Bubble Girl was concerned, "Um, Sir, are you OK?"

Mirio noticed Danny was missing. "Wait, where did he go?"

Izuku looked over at Nighteye and noticed his eyes turning green. He immediately knew what Danny was doing.

Possessed Nighteye suddenly did a twirl, then tiptoed over to the desk and stamped Danny's contract. Nighteye said, but in Danny's voice, "I think that should do the trick." Danny then left Nighteye's body, who shook his head, trying to regain his senses.

Mirio saw Danny reappear next to him, "What did you do?"

Danny shrugged, "The challenge was to stamp the contract myself, or get the seal out of his hands. I decided to stamp the contract myself, so to speak. Or at least, have Sir Nighteye go ahead and stamp it."

Nighteye looked over at Danny, "Possession. Interesting. One part of your Quirk you've never used in public." He chuckled a little. "Consider the challenge passed. Same goes for you, Midoriya."

Izuku replied, "I don't understand. I didn't do either of the things you asked me to."

Nighteye said, "I told you to take the seal from me and stamp the contract yourself, but I didn't say you'd be rejected if you failed."

Mirio said, "Congrats to the two of you. You two pulled it off!" He looked over at Nighteye, "So, they made you laugh."

Sir Nighteye replied, "I had already decided I would take you two on when I heard you boys were coming. I also knew, Midoriya, that you weren't entirely lacking in skill and intellect. But I still wanted to see it for myself. And Fenton, given your track record, I would've taken you in regardless. The Symbol of Peace is gone, and the people are looking not for a dim light, but a dazzling one. You two will work here alongside professionals. And you will see. Regardless of All Might's mandate, you are not worthy of his power."

He handed Izuku the stamp and Izuku stamped the contract, despite knowing that Nighteye doesn't accept him as All Might's successor. Danny growled internally, but kept his cool.

Izuku said, "I look forward to working with you."

Nighteye shook Izuku's hand, "We shall see." He then turned to Danny, and Danny shook his hand.

Suddenly Nighteye saw a future vision of Danny as Phantom, but with a flaming crown on his head and a glowing ring on his right hand. Nighteye was curious as to what he saw, but kept quiet. Danny noticed one of Nighteye's eyes changing color, and knew that must be his Quirk activating, realizing he must have seen something.

Mirio led Izuku and Danny back to the dorms, where the two first years told their classmates about their day. Ochaco said, "Congratulations, Deku, Danny."

"That's awesome," Mina added.

Tenya nodded, "Indeed. Well done, you two."

Izuku smiled, "Thanks, guys."

Tenya replied, "Thank you. You two are an example to us all."

Momo smiled at Danny, "Looks like you're getting a good start. I'm going to have to catch up."

Danny smiled back, "You'll get there. I'm sure of it."

Kaminari walked over, "I dunno how the rest of us are supposed to compete, though."

Sero was next to him, "Yeah, you two will be working at Sir Nighteye's agency. That's seriously amazing."

Kirishima added, "And I hear Togata recommended the two of you."

Sato bit into a chip, "Pretty impressive!"

Izuku stuttered, "Um, yeah, I guess."

Danny shrugged, "Just an opportunity to get some real world experience. The legal way."

Shoto was standing several feet away, "The distance between us just keeps getting wider. We've got to catch up and soon."

Bakugo was next to him and huffed, "Huh."

Ochaco sighed, "I wish I had a place picked out. The school said Gunhead hasn't had enough interns, so his agency is a no-go."

Tsuyu said, "I know what you mean. I wanted to go to Selkie's, but that's out, too."

Kirishima sighed, "Yeah, so is Fourth Kind. He doesn't even accept students for work studies."

Sero mentioned, "The teachers sure aren't making it easy for us, are they?"

Kaminari said, "Thanks to all these requirements, a ton of agencies are ruled out right off the bat."

Oijiro pointed out, "We can't really blame them. Unlike the internships, we'll be directly involved, so if anything were to go wrong, then…."

Aizawa interrupted, "Then the pro have to take responsibility for whatever happened."

Everyone was shocked to see their homeroom teacher there. Kaminari shouted, "Oh, hey, Mr. Aizawa."

Aizawa continued, "Only pros who are the real deal will take on rookies like you guys, knowing the risks involved. Fenton, even though you have a work study, you are still under obligation to continue meet ups with your government assigned watchdog."

Danny sighed, "I knew that already."

Aizawa then said, "Tokoyami, looks like you've got an offer from one of them. Hawks has invited you to work with him in Kyushu."

Kaminari was shocked, "No way!"

Sero exclaimed, "He's the number three hero! That's awesome!"

Sato added, "Whoa, good job."

Aizawa asked Tokoyami, "Well, what do you say?"

Tokoyami replied, "I respectfully accept."

Aizawa said, "All right then. I'll make sure you get the relevant paperwork later. Just let me know when you're expected in Kyushu. I can sign off on your absences."

Shoji asked, "Congrats, Tokoyami, are you psyched?"

Tokoyami replied, "I am grateful, of course."

Shoto sighed, "We've really got to catch up."

Bakugo growled, "Would you stop saying that?"

Aizawa turned to Kirishima, "Also, Kirishima, apparently Amajiki of the Big 3 wants to talk to you about something."

Kirishima asked, "He wants me?"

Aizawa continued, "Uraraka and Asui, you've got your own Big 3 summons from Hado. You can track them down sometime tomorrow or whatever. That's all for now." He turned around and left.

Kirishima said, "Amajiki? That's crazy. I wonder what he wants."

Tsuyu added, "Considering the timing, it could be about the work study program."

Ochaco shouted, "No way! That'd be too good to be true, right?"

Kirishima sighed, "I have to wait until tomorrow? Nope! I'm going over to the third years' dorm right now!" He ran out of the dorm.

Tsuyu agreed, "I don't think I can wait, either. Let's go with him."

Ochaco nodded in agreement and they ran after Kirishima.

Shoto muttered, "We've really, really, gotta…."

Bakugo shouted, "Just shut up!"

Kaminari sighed, "Aw, man. I'm so jealous of those guys."

Sero said, "We'll just have to work harder."

Danny smiled, "You all will catch up. Don't worry."

Momo agreed, "We'll all work harder and get work studies of our own."

Danny's phone beeped and he saw that he got a text from All Might, "Well, I have to go meet with my government assigned watchdog. See you all later."

Danny left and met up with All Might, who said, "Greetings, Young Fenton. I heard you both got in. Congrats."

Danny smiled, "Thanks."

All Might then said, "Down to business. How is Sir Nighteye?"

Danny went on to explain what happened and what Danny saw and heard during Izuku's challenge.

All Might sighed, "I figured as much. And how is Izuku holding up?"

Danny sighed, "He seemed determined, but I could also tell that something was bugging him. You owe him an explanation, All Might. And I would like to sit in on that conversation, since I'm one of the people who know about One For All."

All Might replied, "Fine. I'll meet with the two of you later."

The next day, Danny and Izuku went back to Sir Nighteye's agency with Mirio, dressed in costume. They went to his office and Nighteye explained, "Today, we will be doing patrols and surveillance. We'll split up into three teams. I'll be with Bubble Girl, and Mirio, you're with Midoriya. Fenton, you're going to be my eyes in the sky."

Izuku asked, "Surveillance?"

Bubble Girl explained, "Nighteye Agency is currently working on a secret investigation."

Phantom said, "Cool."

Nighteye continued, "Shie Hassaikai is a small organized crime syndicate." He opened the file and pointed to a picture. "That's Kai Chisaki. As the young head of the group, he's its second in command, and he's been behaving strangely lately. That plague mask is his trademark."

Phantom stared at the picture, "That's a creepy mask."

Izuku said, "I thought there wasn't much trouble with organized crime these days, since the police know who they are and monitor their movements."

Bubble Girl explained, "It's been that way since the big groups broke up. But this Chisaki guy is starting to gather them together again, though we don't know why. The details are unclear, but we do know he made contact with the League of Villains recently."

Izuku and Danny were shocked at that revelation.

Nighteye said, "Unfortunately, we don't have solid proof linking him to anything criminal yet. Hassaikai operates in a legal gray area that's close to black, but we can't treat them like villains. Our objective is to tail them and find out what they're up to. Be careful not to arouse any suspicion. No fighting."

Phantom, Izuku, Mirio, and Bubble Girl shouted, "Yes, sir!"
