·Immortal King, Chapter 1
The dragon roared, enraged and bloodthirsty. They called it the Black Dread, a colossal dragon with which Aegon Targaryen conquered the Seven Kingdoms—well, six, to be exact. Naruto watched it impassively, undeterred despite the threat of the imposing beast. He observed as the rider dismounted from the dragon. Maegor Targaryen, the current king of Westeros, wearing dark armor with the sigil of the Targaryens and the famous sword of the conqueror, Blackfyre, strapped to his waist, approached where Naruto was waiting.
Beyond Maegor and his dragon, a strong host awaited, undoubtedly preparing to invade and pillage everything in their path. Naruto knew these people were no different from those in his world. Perhaps they lacked Chakra and the shinobi skills of his homeland, but greed was just as abundant in this place.
When he fell into this corner of the world, there was nothing but wild men and women surviving in these harsh lands, small creatures they called the Children of the Forest, giants, and other wild animals capable of surviving the harsh cold of those lands.
Lost and with no way to return to his world, Naruto dedicated himself to exploring this one, trying to come to terms with his failures and loss. Never attempting to return to his own world—what sense did it make? He had lost everything; the place that was once his Leaf Village was now just the prison of that woman.
He explored what he could of the realms of Westeros, from the North to Dorne and then Essos, even the ruins of what was once the civilization of Valyria. What he saw, he didn't like at all: slavery, wars, and death. While his world of origin was warlike, this one was rotten. He learned all he could—history and the language they called the Common Tongue—then returned to the North, beyond what they called the Wall, where he had landed in the first place.
In his world, he had not achieved peace; he could not fulfill his dream of becoming Hokage. His precious people died without him being able to do anything, and now, Naruto thought about what to do next. He couldn't die. The Sage of the Six Paths had told him—those were the consequences of absorbing Kaguya's power.
Embarking on a campaign to free the slaves crossed his mind. He was immortal, a god, basically. He could subdue this world easily; no one could challenge him. But was it the right thing to do?
Despite what others thought, Naruto wasn't an idiot. He knew very well that while he could conquer this world and bring peace, history had taught him that peace is a fevered dream. He could bring order, but chaos would always be there, waiting for the moment to rise again. Besides, human nature would eventually lead them to fight against him, no matter how absurd it was to challenge him.
Humans would twist Naruto's ideals of peace and interpret them as those of a tyrant. And committing mass genocide he completely ruled out. It would be the most permanent solution—to eliminate the old and let new generations know only peace and not war...
So, if he couldn't bring peace and order to this world, he would take a small corner of it and make it his home, one where he would live his eternity in peace.
Or so he thought.
With his sensory abilities thanks to Sage Mode, enhanced by the divine Chakra he had obtained, he quickly realized that the nearly perpetual winter that plagued those lands wasn't natural. There was a darkness and putrid energy originating much further north, in what the inhabitants called the Lands of Always Winter.
As expected, Naruto traveled there, intending to find out what exactly was at the center of this darkness. It took him a few days, but he finally reached the heart of winter, and what he saw made his stomach turn.
Living corpses of men, women, children, animals, even giants and Children of the Forest, and large animals like mammoths and deadly ones like shadowcats—all under the influence of a single person or monster.
It was a terrifying sight. The Others, as he later discovered they were called, were beings made of ice and darkness capable of reanimating corpses and binding them to their will. The White Walkers were the slaves of the Others, forming their army, and, of course, there was the leader of it all: a being called the Night King, the most powerful of them all, ruthless and deadly like winter itself.
Naruto attacked with everything from the start, not wanting to take any chances. An Ōdama Rasengan at its maximum power struck the pale king, who looked at him with wide eyes before being engulfed by the attack.
To Naruto's disappointment, nothing remained of that being. Part of his army was vaporized, and those who weren't destroyed by the attack fell like puppets with cut strings, completely inert. The Others shattered into pieces of ice with the fall of their leader.
It was anticlimactic. Naruto hadn't thought he'd be so weak. Perhaps his paranoia made him believe such a powerful attack was necessary. Naruto's action of defeating the Night King caused that dark energy to dissipate gradually. Over time, the winter would wane—not completely, but it would be more manageable.
Even though no one witnessed Naruto's feat of defeating a mythological monster, he soon found himself approached by the Children of the Forest, who looked at him with reverence and awe. They had always regarded him as an ancient god, but this time, it was different. If there was reverence before, now there was worship.
The fact that Naruto never denied being a god didn't help to dissuade them.
"You must be an ancient god... you… you feel like them, life seems to grow when you're near, we feel stronger in your presence, our magic, everything. You defeated the enemy of life, you yourself are life," said one of the oldest Children of the Forest from a small settlement of theirs. When Naruto asked how they knew that, they answered simply,
"A raven told us."
Naruto seemed like a flame in the midst of darkness. The Children of the Forest, the giants, and even some animals that lived beyond the Wall gathered around him. Without realizing it, a settlement began to form. The wildlings, or the free folk, depending on whom you asked, the more rational ones, started to arrive. He didn't know how, but word had spread that a god walked among mortals. Many didn't believe it, but others, prompted by their elders, whom they called forest witches, came to him seeking protection.
A city had been born. Although Naruto's original plan was to live in peace, he found himself enjoying his new life. Building a city and leading it became the perfect distraction from the thoughts of failure and loss that had tormented him.
Years passed faster than Naruto liked to admit. Uzu, the name he gave the city in honor of his mother's people, grew considerably. Large fortified walls protected the city, and behind the walls, a vast forest stretched out. Wooden buildings, houses, a large square, and even a massive tower, which the people called the Tower of the Sage, where Naruto usually resided, blended perfectly with nature. In some ways, it reminded Naruto of his old home, Konohagakure. The city expanded significantly, reaching as far as what they called the Fist of the First Men and Hardhome, a place they considered cursed. Naruto learned the story of that ancient settlement, attacked and pillaged by dragonlords before the fall of Valyria. The people there were enslaved, and those who weren't perished in the dragon fire. He didn't know exactly why they had attacked, but the Children of the Forest claimed the Valyrians were interested in the abilities and magic of the First Men, which was why they attacked.
It reminded him of Kumo, Danzo, and Orochimaru, who craved more power than they had.
While Uzu thrived, it was not without its challenges. Other tribes saw Uzu as both a threat and an opportunity—a chance to pillage and fill their pockets. Of course, Naruto destroyed them. He first offered them an olive branch, hoping they would come to reason.
They spat in his face, and they paid the price. He didn't know if it was because of Kaguya's Chakra or if he had simply changed. Before, he would have exhausted all options before going directly to the most violent one. Naruto had been reckless, but he always tried to see the good in people, believing in second chances.
But here, he gave no second chances. He offered clemency and peace, but also death and annihilation to his enemies.
Those who doubted his divinity were left without doubts when he incinerated hundreds of wildlings who tried to raid his city with his breath.
Soon, Uzu was visited by members of the Night's Watch. Naruto welcomed them in peace. Apparently, the Night's Watch was intrigued and frightened by the exponential growth of a city in the wildlands, as well as by the apparent climate change that was taking place. While the cold and snow didn't disappear, they were no longer as they had been. Naruto assured them he had no intention of attacking the North or the Seven Kingdoms, as long as they didn't attack first. Reluctantly, they accepted his words; they had no other choice, not after seeing him effortlessly annihilate a clan of cannibals, impaling them all with sharp rocks that suddenly emerged from the ground.
And peace reigned for a few years. Naruto enjoyed the peaceful life. He had a good relationship with the Night's Watch, although they were always cautious. He had even met Lord Stark and his heir, Torrhen.
Then came Aegon Targaryen. He conquered the southern kingdoms before turning his gaze to the North. Torrhen Stark had bent the knee to Aegon when he learned of what had happened at the Field of Fire. A wise choice—he chose the lives of his people over a crown, something few men would do. Torrhen was now Warden of the North; he kept his seat, but his title as king had been stripped from him. Then, Aegon set his sights on the newest kingdom, far to the north.
Maegor observed the imposing city in front of him, with high walls protecting it. He felt a certain peace here, even stronger. His eyes landed on the man who ruled over the entire city. Naruto Uzumaki, the supposed Immortal King Beyond the Wall. Some even called him a god—nonsense, Maegor thought disdainfully. He never understood why his father never conquered this place. Maegor never cared for what he thought was a frozen wasteland, yet this was not what he had imagined. For a long time, he had heard rumors about this Uzu, about the wealth they possessed—something absurd, but explorers had confirmed that Uzu was indeed absurdly rich. Three large gold mines had been found in these lands, with just one producing as much as the Lannister mines currently did.
Uzu was the goose that laid the golden eggs, and Maegor would be the first to claim that prize.
"Naruto Uzumaki, the king Beyond the Wall. It's a pleasure... to meet you," Maegor greeted with a smug smile on his face.
Naruto already despised him. However, he smiled politely.
"Maegor Targaryen, you look like your father," Naruto said.
Maegor had the typical Valyrian appearance and the same build as his father. However, there was a certain cruelty and madness in him that his father did not possess. Aegon had exuded an aura of power and authority, whereas Maegor, from what Naruto had heard, reveled in the fear of his subjects.
"Yes, my father. You knew him, I see. They say Aegon the Conqueror came here once but left empty-handed…" Maegor's voice hinted at intrigue, yet Naruto saw the truth behind those words.
"I wonder, what brings you to my humble home, King Maegor? I heard you were a bit busy with some affairs with the Faith in your kingdom. Ruling a broken kingdom can't be easy."
Maegor frowned before smiling.
"The matter with the upstarts has been resolved, King Naruto. Fire and Blood, the reign of House Targaryen will endure."
"Fire and Blood, very true words. But let's stop beating around the bush. What do you want here, Maegor? Why do you bring an army to my home?" Naruto already knew the answer, but he still had to ask.
"You already know the answer. Under my command, I am uniting the Seven Kingdoms, and Uzu, I'm afraid, is part of the Seven Kingdoms," Maegor declared, absentmindedly stroking the hilt of his sword, Blackfyre, in a clear warning. "The realm needs to be pacified and unified, all under the rule of House Targaryen. My terms are generous: Bend the knee to me, and you will retain your seat of power as Warden of these lands. In return, you will be under the protection of my house forever, as long as House Uzumaki remains loyal."
Naruto merely observed him in silence. Noticing his lack of response, Maegor continued speaking.
"I am a generous king. I've heard you have a daughter, Princess Kaori Uzumaki. If you bend the knee, I will take her as my wife, and she will become queen of the Seven Kingdoms. Those are my terms. Accept them, and no blood will be spilled in your lands. Uzumaki and Targaryen blood will unite, and our descendants will rule Westeros. Deny them, and I will burn your walls, my army will sack your city. If you haven't died, then I will make you watch as my men dishonor your daughter, again and again, and you will be able to do nothing."
Naruto watched him in silence, his expression betraying nothing. The audacity of this bastard, Naruto thought. Threatening him was one thing, but even thinking about threatening his daughter? Naruto looked at Maegor, and any trace of friendliness disappeared from his face.
"I'll give you the same answer I gave your father back then: Get out of here if you don't want to die." Hiding his fury behind an impassive façade, Naruto replied.
The smile vanished from Maegor's face, and his expression contorted with rage. No one defied Maegor Targaryen, least of all a wildling with delusions of godhood.
"You dare…!"
"I've heard what you've done, Maegor Targaryen. I know your sins, usurper. You stole your nephew's rightful throne, then took his life, murdering your youngest nephew. Oh, mighty Maegor, the Child-Slayer, the Kinslayer, the Usurper! Oh, and let's not forget how you forced your niece to marry you for the lives of her daughters. Do you think I would let my sweet daughter marry filth like you? I'd sooner let the Others take over the world. Get out of my house, Maegor Targaryen, and take your army with you—unless you want me to slaughter all of you."
Maegor looked at him in disbelief and fury.
"They call you an immortal king, they call you a god, but all I see is a foolish man," Maegor the Cruel spat. "Let the gods bear witness—I offered peace. Now, you will burn along with your city."
Naruto simply shook his head.
"Let it be known, I gave you the chance to leave peacefully."
Jaehaerys Targaryen felt the weight of the responsibility to repair the damage caused by his uncle on his shoulders. More than that, he was scared but determined. He could no longer allow his uncle to continue spreading discord and chaos throughout the kingdoms, which is why he was gathering allies to overthrow Maegor. His cruelty had driven allies into Jaehaerys' arms, discontent with the king's cruel and bloody actions.
According to the latest reports, Maegor had marched north with a considerable army, but he hadn't gone to Winterfell or any northern settlement; instead, he went much farther north. Without a doubt, Maegor intended to conquer the kingdom of Uzu, something even Aegon the Conqueror, with three adult dragons, had been unable to do. But Jaehaerys would take advantage of this; he had already taken Dragonstone less than a week ago. While his uncle was in the North, Jaehaerys would make the most of the opportunity to expand his influence in the other kingdoms. He had to make them see that his cause was the best option for the realm.
However, he also worried that his uncle might succeed with Uzu. It was said that the army of this kingdom had hundreds of giants at its disposal. Many dismissed it as falsehoods, but Jaehaerys knew better. Why wouldn't he believe in the existence of giants or the Children of the Forest when he himself rode a dragon?
No, for now, he had to focus on taking the Iron Throne. In his uncle's absence, Jaehaerys could take King's Landing, which would be a severe blow to Maegor and a great victory for his cause.
He observed the map of Westeros on the Painted Table, moving the pieces again and again, thinking of the best strategies, marking those who would rise against him and those who might support him.
A cold breeze brushed his face, and then a voice spoke, completely startling him.
"You are Jaehaerys Targaryen, aren't you?"
The son of King Aenys, grandson of the conqueror, drew his sword upon seeing the intruder. Red, slitted eyes looked at him coldly.
"Who are you?" he demanded, pointing his sword at him. He was about to call his guards, but no words left his mouth when he felt the cold steel at his neck.
"Go ahead, scream," Jaehaerys froze when he felt the cold breath on his neck and a voice whispering in his ear. "Before anyone gets here, your blood will stain the floor."
"You... what do you want?" Jaehaerys asked him. "Did Maegor send you?"
He heard a snort from his attacker.
"No one sent me. I'm not here to harm you, unless you give me reason to. But in a way, your uncle is responsible for my being here. I only want to talk, Prince Jaehaerys."
Then the blade was removed from his neck. Naruto stepped away from the Targaryen prince, using his speed to appear in front of him. The prince looked at him with wide eyes.
"He's just a boy," Naruto realized, but Naruto had also been a boy when he went on his first shinobi mission. He didn't allow himself to doubt; he unleashed his killing intent, and the young prince froze, looking at him with fearful eyes.
"More than talk, I've come with a warning. I have no quarrel with the Targaryens, but I will not tolerate their ambitions over my kingdom. Anyone who dares to attack my home will be dealt with mercilessly. Your uncle has paid the price for his arrogance."
He summoned a scroll into his hand, one with a storage seal.
Jaehaerys, completely paralyzed with fear, watched as that pale-skinned man with red eyes made a scroll appear out of nowhere, and from it, something emerged and was carelessly dropped to the floor.
It was a person's head—Maegor Targaryen's head—rolling to his feet.
"The king is dead. Long live the king," Naruto whispered darkly. The words echoed in Jaehaerys' ears. "Maegor and his army no longer exist. I took care of them. Rule well, Jaehaerys Targaryen, and keep your hands away from my home."
And in a puff of white smoke, that man disappeared as if he had never been there in the first place.
