Hoenn? - Ch1
I do not own Pokemon, I only own my OC.
A new story from me, the one and only. I want to do a Hoenn adventure partially because it is my favorite region and houses my favorite Pokemon, but also there is a general lack of Fanfics that involve Hoenn, and not just SI/OC fics. Hopefully what I do in this fic will be interesting, as I am trying to have less of a blank slate character and more of an interesting situation surrounding the character as well. As much as I love Unova and having a character like Shawn, that created problems writing wise and apparently it wasn't the most popular type of character either.
Let me know what you think of this start down below in the reviews. Enjoy.
Darkness
That was all he could see. Who is he? He had no idea. He just knew he was here. Living.
Not dead, that was for sure. All he could see was black, he couldn't smell anything, he couldn't taste anything, he couldn't feel anything.
There was one thing he could do however (was HE really doing it though?), and that was hearing.
Voices, specifically. They talked by him? Under him? No, they talked above him.
What were they saying?
He couldn't fully tell, but it sounded something like regular, yet, somehow familiar people talking.
"What's this twerp doing here?" Said Voice 1.
"Seems like he's out cold, maybe a stowaway?" Said Voice 2.
"I dunno, he mighta been a troublemaker da captain threw back here." Said the final Voice, number 3.
Voice 2 spoke again.
"Ooooo, if he's a troublemaker like us then maybe we should take him with us. Afterall, if he was thrown back here then he would probably want to get off the ship when he wakes up."
Then Voice 1.
"Maybe so, but YOU have to carry him. I am NOT lugging some twerp all the way off a boat while trying to sneak off unless he can help us catch that Pikachu!"
"Fine with me! Come on little buddy, let's get you out of here!"
That was the last thing he heard from Voice 2, and the last thing he can recall up to this point. So where is he now? While not completely sure, based off the voices, he was on a boat or a ship beforehand and now-
Wait.
What is a boat?
He had to think for awhile, maybe a minute or so, before he realized a boat was-
Wait again.
What is a minute?
…
…
…
It all came back to him.
Not who "he" was, but what EVERYTHING was. A boat was a vessel of transportation on water for losers who can't afford a plane ticket. A minute is a measure of time - 60 minutes in an hour, 24 hours in a day.
Now, where was he?
Ahhh, yes, he was thinking about where he was. So he left the boat with the help of the voices, and now he is just sitting somewhere? Whatever he was sitting on, it was uncomfortable.
Uncomfortable?
He could feel.
His back to a surface, his legs on the ground, his arms laying beside his body, and his hair in his face, looking down at the ground.
Since he could feel, he decided he would try and open his eyes.
…
…
…
It worked.
Trees and greenery everywhere around him, lots of flowers and even some weird looking things in the distance.
Weird looking things?
'Not things,' he thought to himself, 'but Pokemon.'
Pokemon? Like, from the games and anime?
'Yes, like from the games and anime. A Zigzagoon and a Wurmple, looks like they are talking to each other.'
Talking to each other? Well, I guess Pokemon do communicate.
Brushing past the Pokemon, he focused on himself.
A pair of white and red tennis shoes, and black pants. Looking at his body, at least what he could see without a reflection, he saw a black shirt with his hands covered in white gloves.
Standing up with a little help from the tree he was seated against, he once again looked at the Pokemon.
'Wait, Pokemon?! Like, real Pokemon? This is weird as hell. I can see like I'm in a normal body, not like a VR set or camera does, and I can feel and hear everything normally as well. Is this real?'
He also wasn't freaking out over the Pokemon thing as hard as he thought he would.
For whatever reason, he was not surprised at the supposed existence of Pokemon - in fact, he feels like if he hadn't seen a Pokemon, he would've eventually noticed and felt like it was odd to not see one.
Again though, who was he?
'Ruby', he decided.
He was going to be Ruby for now. A name that's origins could easily be deduced when it comes to Pokemon, but if he was in the Pokemon world, why not go with something cool that no one else would understand?
'I'm in the POKEMON WORLD? Not the NORMAL WORLD? Which one is it? Is this normal or not?'
Unfortunately for the newly named Ruby, he didn't have any more free time to debate what was normal and what wasn't, as he heard a loud voice calling a familiar name.
"PIKACHUUUU! WHERE ARE YOU PIKACHU?!"
Since he didn't have anything better to do than go investigate why some idiot was calling for a Pikachu in the middle of the forest, he followed the voice.
As he got closer, he heard a loud thud, and he eventually made it past the trees, into the open.
The sun shined down on his eyes, and as they got adjusted, Ruby could see a man in his 30s or 40s in shorts and a white lab coat running around a tree from some Poochyena while screaming very loud.
"Please stop it! Can't we discuss this?!"
The man climbed up the tree, and finally noticed him, but as soon as Ruby was noticed, another figure appeared from the same trees he came from.
The girl was wearing a red jacket of sorts, blue shorts (?) that were skintight, and a red bandana (again, ?) that covered up what seemed to be brown hair.
The man spoke in desperation, "Either one of you, please help! There are pokeballs in that bag right there! Please hurry!"
The girl stood there confused, so Ruby decided he would take action.
He jogged to the bag, pulled out the first Pokeball he saw, and threw it.
"Go!"
As the Pokemon materialized, he deduced what it was.
Blue, quadrupedal, with a white fin on its butt and a blue fin on top of its head that matched the color of its body.
Ruby smiled, it was his favorite Pokemon line, the Mudkip line. Swampert was always his favorite, along with the Fire type Hoenn starter, Blaziken.
Before he got too sidetracked reminiscing though, he let out a command.
"Mudkip, use Water Gun on those Poochyena to help him out!"
The Mudkip looked at him for a second, before following the order. It jumped down from the higher piece of land Ruby and the girl were standing on, and shot out a big Water Gun at the 3 Poochyena who were at the base of the tree.
The three Dark type Pokemon were hit dead on, and pushed back very far from the tree. They quickly ran away from the clearing as Mudkip let up its attack.
The man sighed in relief, "Thank you very much, but if I may ask, what is your-"
The branch he was hanging on broke off from the tree, and as a result, the man came crashing down onto the ground with a loud THUD.
"OW!"
The girl spoke for the first time after the man hit the ground. "Professor, are you alright?"
The man responded while he rubbed his head, probably in pain.
"I'm fine now, and since you know me I'm assuming you must be the new trainer May, am I correct?"
The girl nodded in response, and so the so-called "professor" looked at Ruby.
"And who might you be? I've never seen you around these parts before."
Ruby responded with a blank expression, "The name's Ruby. You've never seen me because I'm not from around here. Besides me though, what happened to you? How did you end up getting chased by three tiny Poochyena? And why were you calling for a Pikachu earlier?"
The girl, whose name was May, spoke out too.
"Yeah Professor, what's going on? I thought I was supposed to get a Pokemon today?"
The Professor got up hastily as he responded. "Ah, yes! I need to find that Pikachu! Thanks for your help Ruby, but this discussion will have to continue another time!"
He climbed up the slope to the two teenagers, where he grabbed his bag, and pulled out seemingly the same Pokeball Ruby had used, which was Mudkip's Pokeball.
He returned Mudkip, before jumping back down the slope, bag in hand, and running off while calling back, "Sorry, but you will have to wait May! I'll see you back at the lab later!"
May didnt take too well to that statement.
"Oh really? I come all this way just to be told to wait even longer? Not gonna happen!"
She rode her bike down the slope, and followed after the Professor.
Not a moment later, an absolutely MASSIVE amount of electricity emerged in the direction the professor, and now May, were headed towards.
Ruby just stood there, watching the two disappear into the forest, before he heard loud voices behind him.
"He was right here Jess! Where could he have gone?!"
Voice 2. It sounds very familiar now that he is actually awake.
"I don't know! But if he's gone then we have to get a move on with capturing the Pikachu anyways before the Twerp gets him fixed up!"
Ruby walked deeper into the forest towards the voices who took him off the boat, and after just about 30 seconds of walking, he came back to where he was situated when he woke up. Three figures surrounded the tree, with one being noticeably tinier than the other two.
The first was a woman with extremely long red hair, which was also somehow curved like a boomerang. The second was a man with shaggy blue hair. Both were wearing something akin to a uniform he assumed, a white top with a white bottom and boots.
The third figure was-
What?
"Is that a Meowth?"
His accidental speaking out of genuine surprise alerted the trio of his arrival.
The blue haired one, who he now knew was named James, spoke first excitedly.
"There you are! We've been looking all over for you! Where did you go?"
Ruby took a few seconds mentally to comprehend what was happening.
'Team Rocket? The goofy comic relief characters from the Pokemon Anime? So they took me off the boat, but why?'
Ruby finally responded. "I woke up, and decided to explore. I'm assuming you three took me off the boat I was on?"
Meowth spoke this time. "Well, we couldn't just leave ya there out cold, so my buddy James here carried ya off the boat, and we laid ya down here while we went to go get our Supa-Pikachu-Battery."
Ruby just looked at the talking Pokemon blankly. "What the hell is a Super Pikachu Battery?"
Jessie responded before Meowth could, "Just come on twerp, you can see it for yourself. We need to get a move on and capture that Pikachu!"
James added on, "Yes, come with us! You might could help us capture this Pikachu!"
The three looked at him expectantly, and Ruby sighed.
"Alright, I'll come along with you for now, but why are we capturing this Pikachu in the first place?"
James answered first as they started making their way through the forest, "It's the strongest Pikachu ever, that's why! The boss would be delighted to have such a powerful Pokemon!"
Ruby was skeptical.
"So it's a very strong Pikachu, but Pikachu is also an inherently weak Pokemon since it's a middle evolution, so overall this Pokemon is not actually that strong in the grand scheme of things right?"
James shook his head.
"You'll understand what we mean when you see this Pikachu in action! It's gotta be the strongest Pokemon I've ever seen!"
Ruby wasn't letting it go that easy, however. "So how long have you been hunting this 'supreme Pikachu' then?"
The trio ahead of him stopped.
A long pause ensued.
…
…
…
After what Ruby would call a minute, James spoke weakly.
"Maybe uh, 2 years or so? Maybe?"
The protagonist shook his head in shock. "Are you serious? Hunting down a rodent like a Pikachu for 2 years? No matter how strong a Pikachu is, it's still a Pikachu, and after two years you must've trained up some decent Ground types to defeat this rat, right?"
No one spoke.
…
…
…
"Are you guys serious?"
…
…
…
"You know what, just forget it. We can talk about this later. For now you guys have a Super Battery to get to right?"
The three laughed awkwardly.
"Ahahah, yes that's right, come on, let's get to our Pikachu Battery to try and get the twerp's Pikachu again!" Said Jessie.
No more words were said as Ruby followed them through the forest, and eventually to a small clearing where a giant machine shaped like a battery with arms and legs stood tall.
Meowth loudly said, "This is da top of da line Super Pikachu Battery! It can suck Pikachu's electricity dry, so that we can take it away widout any trouble!"
James then proclaimed from beside his teammate, "This will be the day that Pikachu is ours! The twerp will be wallowing in despair when we take away his most precious and powerful Pokemon!"
Ruby just looked on at the three, who were chatting excitedly amongst themselves.
"Well, y'all can go ahead and start with that machine, I'll just watch from the side."
James expressed his agreement. "Great idea chum! You can watch us experts snatch away that Pikachu from the twerp! Let's go!"
The three proceeded to hop into their giant battery, and it made its way through the forest, until Ruby could see it no more.
The boy sighed as he started to walk, following the trail of the robot.
'So what is going on here? Team Rocket has been hunting a Pikachu, and while it seems extremely familiar, I can't recall the exact details of the Pikachu, or even who it belongs to. Actually, I really don't know anything. I know I'm in the Hoenn region, but what universe am I in? The games? The anime? A mixture? The manga? The spin-offs? I can't remember anything besides what I have already seen, which is just Team Rocket.'
The young (?) boy just kept up his steady trek through the woods, following the path Team Rocket's giant walking battery left.
End of chapter!
Let me know what you think in the reviews, and how should I continue his interactions with Team Rocket? I already have a team planned out, but I am willing to take suggestions if there is a good case for a certain mon, though try to keep it to Pokemon in Gen 3 or before. Is this a good starting point? Is this different from other stories so far? Is it at least half decent? Lmk down below and thanks for reading. Peace.
