Chapter 5-Training
Three days later
Clarke's P.O.V
Clarke is woken up by someone shaking her. "Go away. I'm too damn sore for this. Anya is awful at training."
"Thank you, Clarke," Anya says. Clarke's eyes widen, and she looks at Anya. "Good morning."
"I'm sorry. Please don't break my leg," Clarke says.
Anya chuckles. "Get up, or I will get the water bucket. I already used it on Raven and Octavia. Did you know those two are together?"
"Yes," Clarke says. "They think they are hiding it, but I've known for a month. My Dad still doesn't, though," Clarke says as she stands up. "So, how many times are you going to cut me today?"
"I won't be fighting you today," Anya says.
"Then who will?" Clarke asks.
"That is a surprise. Come outside," Anya says.
"Really wished I stayed on the Ark right now," Clarke says with a groan as she stands up. She grabs her sword and dagger and walks outside, where Anya is waiting. "So, who is training me?"
"You have done well in your training, Clarke. You are learning quickly, but you are still having problems. You're clumsy when you swing. Your balance is not right. Octavia is doing well with her training, and so is Raven. I do not believe I am the best to train you."
"Then who is?" Clarke asks as they get to the ring.
"I am," Lexa says as she walks up behind her. Clarke looks at her.
"Why? You're the Commander. You have so many better things to do."
"No, I don't. We are at peace, Clarke. You seem scared," Lexa says with a smile.
"Of course I'm scared. I've been training with Anya for two days, and I have bruises everywhere. I have bruises in places I didn't even know I could get them. From my understanding, you are the best fighter in your Coalition. So yeah. I'm scared."
"Good," Lexa says as she walks towards the ring. "Come on."
"Please help me," Clarke says as she follows her into the ring.
Murphy's P.O.V
Murphy packed his bag and looked at Wells as he came into the room. "You almost done?" Wells asks him.
"I can't believe I'm doing this," Murphy says. The night after the dinner, Abby had told Wells and Murphy that if they wanted to, they could move in with her. "I'm about to become one of the princes of the Ark. This is why I hated you and Clarke."
Wells chuckles as he hits Murphy in the shoulder. "We need this, Murphy. I'm tired of sleeping in the same bed as you, and this way, we'll be able to talk about the plan with Abby, Kane, Aurora, and Bellamy without my Dad suspecting anything," Wells says.
"I know," Murphy says with a groan. "I hate myself," He says as he grabs his bag and leaves.
Raven's P.O.V
Raven swings her sword at Anya, who blocks the swing and swings her sword at Raven, who ducks. "What is going on with you and Octavia?" Anya asks.
"Nothing," Raven says as she swings her sword at Anya, who ducks under it and punches Raven in the face. Raven gets back in her fighting stance Anya showed her. "What if something is going on? Does that matter? Am I not allowed to be with someone if I'm a warrior?"
"That is not it, Raven. But loving someone-"
"I don't love Octavia," Raven says as she sets her sword down. "We had been down here for a month, we were still learning, and it was stressful, but she and I had grown close as friends and one night, she came into my room, and we just talked. The next thing I knew, I was kissing her."
"I understand. I do, but when you are in a real fight, and Octavia or whoever you may love is in danger, you must be prepared to lose them and not grieve them until the war is over," Anya says. "Indra is probably telling Octavia the same thing."
"I got it," Raven says, and Anya nods as Raven swings at her again.
Lexa's P.O.V
Lexa dodges a swing from Clarke and hits the blond in the side of her head with the hilt of her sword. Clarke groans as she lies on the ground. "Why?" Clarke asks as she stands up and grabs the second sword that Lexa had given her. "I am having trouble with one sword. Why give me to?" Clarke asks.
"Because Clarke, you have the same problem I did as a child. You can't find the right balance. With two swords, you are able to balance both sides of your body. Once you get used to that balance and you are property trained, you will be one of the most dangerous women alive," Lexa tells her. "You will be able to move fast. Defend from every side of your body. You'll be able to kill your enemy before they have a chance to swing their weapon."
"I know why we are training. But I haven't thought about the fact that one day, probably before the prisoners fall. I'll have to kill someone."
"It is not meant to be taken lightly," Lexa tells her. "I wish I could tell you that you won't have to kill anybody, but the truth is, you will. Some of my people see your people as a threat. People like the man who attacked you at your cabin won't care that you are from the sky. They'll just kill you or worse."
"Worse? What do-" Clarke stops herself. "Oh."
"It is a harsh world, Clarke. But that is why we are training you, Octavia, Raven, and Jake. So you can survive this world."
Clarke nods as she grabs her swords off the ground. "Let's keep going," Clarke says as she falls into a fighting stance.
Wells's P.O.V
Wells sets his bag down in Clarke's room and looks around. "I hope it's alright," Abby says from behind him as Wells looks at Clarke's drawing.
"It is," Wells says. "I remember staying in here when we were kids. I always liked her bed better than I liked mine."
"That's because you loved her," Abby says. "Are you gonna tell her that when we see her."
"If," Wells says as he stares at a drawing of him and Clarke.
"When," Abby says.
"When we see her. I don't know," Wells says. "I don't know what I'll do when I see her again."
"That one room is as big as my apartment," Murphy says as he walks up to them.
"I'm glad you like it, John," Abby says with a smile. "Thank you two for doing this."
"We didn't do anything, Abby," Wells says.
"You did. Just you two being here makes me feel better, not so lonely," Abby tells them.
"Don't worry, Dr. G, we'll make you regret this by the end of the week," Murphy says. "I'm hungry," He says as he walks towards the kitchen.
"Interesting friend you have," Abby says.
"He is interesting, to say the least," Wells says. "He's probably right, though."
"I don't doubt it," Abby says as he goes to follow Murphy, and Wells follows with a smile.
Jake's P.O.V
Jake swings at Gustus, who blocks the sword, and swings at the man, who ducks and rolls away from another swing. "Good," Gustus says as he circles Jake. "You must be quick on your feet if you wish to live through your fights. Strength will not always win," Gustus says as he puts his sword away.
"Thanks for the advice," Jake says. "I gotta be honest. I'm surprised you are training me. I didn't think you liked us."
"I do not," Gustus says. "But Heda gave me a Command."
"Why don't you like us?" Jake asks.
"Our people believe that you are weak. They think that the Commander is showing weakness, and that puts her in danger."
"How do we prove to them that having peace with us will help your Coalition, not make it weak?" Jake asks.
"Show them that you are strong," Gustus tells him. "But before you show them, you must show me," Gustus says as he withdraws his sword again.
"Alright," Jake says as he swings at the large man.
Kane's P.O.V
Kane walked up to Jaha's apartment and knocked. Jaha opens the door. "Shumway told me that you wanted to see me," Kane says, and Jaha nods.
"My son and John Murphy are now living with Abby," Jaha says.
"I know. I had dinner with her the other night. I suggested it after they left. She needs them. She needs support," Kane says.
"Yes, you were seen going there with Aurora and Bellamy Blake," Jaha says.
"What of it?" Kane asks. "Aurora is my girlfriend. Bellamy is her, son," Kane says. "Are we not allowed to have dinners anymore, Jaha."
"Kane, I trust you, probably more than anybody on the Ark. You would tell me if someone was breaking the laws."
"Of course, I would, sir," Kane says.
"Good, Abby is my close friend, but keep an eye on her. Grief can make people do unexpected things."
"Of course, sir," Kane says before he leaves the apartment.
Octavia's P.O.V
Octavia walks into her room and sees Raven lying on the bed. "How did training go?" Raven asks her.
"Good," Octavia says as she sits down beside her. "Did Anya give you the same talk Indra gave me?"
"The one about us, yes," Raven says. "What do you think about what they said?"
"I don't know. I don't even know how I feel about us. This was supposed to be simple; we were using each other to blow off steam, and now I don't know."
"Neither do I," Raven admits. "I guess we'll have to figure it out," Raven says as she takes Octavia's hand.
Jake's P.O.V.
That night, Jake, Clarke, Anya, Lexa, Raven, Lincoln, Octavia, Gustus, Lexa, and Indra gathered inside Indra's house to eat. "You were able to bring people back from the dead?" Lexa asks Clarke, who nods.
"Yeah, A month before we came down, a patient had come into Medbay. He was having a heart attack, and he died, but my Mom brought him back. It's called C.P.R.," Clarke says. "I can teach your healers if you'd like."
"I will talk to Nyko tomorrow," Indra says.
"So, how long do we have to stay in this village? It's awesome, but I would like to see the rest of the world, like Polis," Raven says.
Lexa smiles. "Depending on how well you do in your training. Two or three months, after the first month, you will be allowed to leave the village and explore the surrounding area," Lexa tells them.
"Alright," Raven says.
"What are the Mountain me?" Octavia asks after a moment.
Lexa sighs but begins to speak. "The Mountain men come from a bunker. Mount Weather, they have been taking and killing my people for decades," Lexa says.
"You haven't stopped them?" Jake asks.
"We can't get in," Anya says. "Their technology is better."
"That's why you made an alliance with us," Clarke realizes as she looks at Lexa. "You want our help to beat the Mountain me."
Lexa stays silent but nods. "You're using us," Raven growls.
"No," Lexa growls. "I know it may seem like that, but I'm not. Regardless of if you help us or not, you will have peace because your people can help us in many other ways. But yes, I wanted this alliance because I know it is our best way of stopping them for killing more of my people."
"Our people," Jake says after a moment. "We're on the ground now. That makes us grounders, too," Jake says. "You have given us a chance, a new life. I can't promise anything right now, but when our people come down. I will try and get them to fight with you."
"Thank you, Jake," Lexa says.
"He's right. We're with you," Clarke says, and Octavia and Raven slowly nod.
Thanks for reading. The next chapter will have another time skip, and the group on the ground will go to Polis as the group on the Ark work on getting more allies. As always, suggestions, ideas, and feedback are welcomed. Until next time.
