Chapter 15-More than just surviving
Jake's P.O.V
Jake walked up to Kane as he exited the dropship. "Got everything?" Jake asks Kane who nods. "I'm glad you're here, Marcus. But Jaha isn't going to let this go, when the prisoners come down, they aren't going to be alone."
"I know," Kane says. "We have five months to prepare for that day, to fight whatever Jaha sends at us."
"We'll beat him, Jaha doesn't know about the grounders. We have plenty of allies, Marcus, don't worry," Jake says.
"Let's go, boys," Raven says. "Let's go home."
"We're coming, Raven," Jake says as they walk towards the others.
Jaha's P.O.V
Jaha stood in front of the people of the Ark. "I know you all have a lot of questions," Jaha says. "It is time I tell you the truth, hopefully after you will understand why I hid it from you and we can work towards getting justice for the fallen, together. Jake Griffin, Clarke Griffin, and Raven Reyes were never floated, they escaped to the ground using a pod. Marcus Kane helped them, and they took his daughter, a second child. We had been investigating this girl for the past seven months and we were able to figure out that Marcus Kane and Aurora Blake were her parents. Shumway, myself and three guards went to arrest Marcus and David Miller was supposed to take guards to arrest Miss Blake. Instead Kane had a plan, he used teenagers to fight his battles, they killed over a dozen of our guards, people who protect us. Kane took some of your children with him, they could very well be dead!" Jaha says angerly. "He betrayed all of us, he took my son as well."
"Why was Jake Griffin arrested?" A man asks.
"Jake found a glitch in our system. One that can be fixed but instead of trying, Jake wanted to tell all of you and cause panic. I tried to talk him out of it but he wouldn't listen so I had him arrested, I promise, the glitch is being repaired as we speak and it will be okay. Jake Griffin, wanted to cause panic and uproar on the Ark. As did Kane, they wanted us to to betray each other and take power for themselves, they only cared for themselves and their families. They have both proved it. Kane made those teenagers believe that he cared in them, then he used them and turned them into to criminals and murders. Him and Jake are the reason all of this is happening."
"He took my son from me," Hannah Greene says. "How do you plan on saving our children, Chancellor?"
"In five months, I will lead a group of guards, and he will go to the ground to arrest them. If they are dead from radiation than we will die with them, but if not I swear to you, they will be arrested and your kids will be returned to you, safely," Jaha tells Hannah.
"Jaha is right," Diana Syndey says. "Jake and Kane have betrayed us and killed good people who are meant to protect us. They must face justice for what they have done," Diana says and the people cheer. "The adults who turned these teenagers into these criminals will face justice, they will die for their crimes!" The people cheer.
"Thank you Diana," Jaha says. "She is right, they must face justice but I will need your help, we must all come together if we hope to save our people, Jake and Kane, they do not care about us, they are not one of us. They would be okay with us dying, we are the last hope of the human race. We cannot die! We must eliminate the enemy! We must stand United!" They cheer once again. "I promise you that as long as we stay united, the human race will survive!"
Lexa's P.O.V
Lexa rode her horses into the Skaikru village and looked at Indra as she walked up to them. "More Skaikru?" Indra asks as she looks at Kane and his group and Lexa nods. "There was a rider while you were gone, Heda. From Polis."
"What happened?" Lexa asks as Clarke climbs off of her horse and stands behind Lexa.
"Titus is dead. Killed by the assassin last night," Indra tells Lexa. Lexa stays silent for a moment before she nods.
"I must return to Polis, Anya and Gustus will stay here and help them settle, you will as well Indra," Lexa tells the Trikru leader who nods as she walks back towards her horse.
"I'm coming," Clarke tells her.
"Clarke—" Abby says but Jake grabs her arm and shakes his head.
"You should stay here with you friends and family," Lexa tells Clarke.
"I am your second. I'm coming, Lexa," Clarke tells her.
"Either she goes or one of us do," Jake says and Lexa nods.
"Fine," She says as she climbs on her horse and Clarke climbs on her. "We will be back as soon as we can," She says before she leaves the village with Clarke.
Jake's P.O.V
Jake leads Abby into his house and she sets her bag down. "Why did you let her go?" Abby asks her husband.
"Clarke is Lexa's second and the ambassador of Skaikru, I don't let her do anything, she makes her own choice and she knew that Lexa needed her even if Lexa wouldn't say it," Jake says as he sets his sword on the table and turns to look at Abby. "They have grown close in the last seven months."
"There is an assassin, they could kill Clarke," Abby says.
"Clarke can handle herself just fine, she's proved it multiple time."
"How?" Abby asks after a moment.
"She's fought in battles, she killed men larger than her and with more experience in fighting, she's a better warrior than Raven and I and maybe Octavia," Jake says.
"You let her fight? You let her kill? Jake she is just a teenager. How could you—"
"You don't get to come in here and question my decisions!" Jake shouts at her. "You're the reason she is down here, every person she has killed, was because you told Jaha about my plans and I was arrested and I was'n leaving my daughter up there to be thrown in a cell! So you don't get to come down here and criticize me about my decisions or Clarke's!" Jake shouts at her in anger.
"I didn't mean for any of this to happen, I thought Jaha would talk to you," Abby says softly.
"He didn't he should have known he wouldn't have. He wouldn't have let that get out, never. I've killed people, Abby. I shoved my sword through the chests of men and women. But I did it to survive after what you did, and every guard that died on the Ark while you guys were escaping, they died because your mistakes and choices, so don't try to act like I've made the wrong decisions," Jake says before he leaves the house leaving Abby standing in the middle of the room.
Murphy's P.O.V
Murphy and Wells walk into a house that Octavia had shown them too. "Not too bad," Murphy says as he sets his bag down. Wells nods as he sets his bag down. "You doing okay?"
"It's all a lot to take in," Wells says as he looks at him. "There have been people down here for a hundred years. I don't know what I expected to find when we got here. But this wasn't it and Clarke. She's different, stronger but she's also colder."
"We don't know what they have had to do since coming down here. She'll tell you when she gets back," Murphy says as he sits down. "You still love her."
"Yeah," Wells says as he sits down. "But it doesn't matter, she likes the Commander, might even love her."
"You caught that?" Murphy asks Wells who nods. "We're getting a fresh start, Wells. Let's use it. You need to talk to Clarke, make sure she knows how you feel but you also need to move on, we have five months until your father will wage war on us, let's enjoy it," Murphy says. "Alright?" Murphy asks Wells who stays silent. Murphy hits his shoulder making Wells looks at him. "Alright?"
"Alright," Wells says with a smirk and Murphy grins as he stands up.
"Alright, come on, I wanna explore this village."
Kane's P.O.V
Kane walks out of his room and looks at Aurora and Bellamy as they talked. "You going to stay here, Bell?" Kane asks.
"Yeah, unless I hear you two, then I'm sleeping outside," Bellamy says making Kane chuckle as there was a knock.
"Come in," Aurora says and Octavia opens the door and walks in with Lincoln behind her.
"Hi," She says with a smile. "You guys doing okay?"
"We're fine, sweetie," Kane says as he looks at Lincoln. "Marcus Kane," He says as he holds his hand out to the man who takes it.
"Lincoln," He says as he shakes his hand.
Kane let's his hand go and looks at Octavia. "Is he your boyfriend?" Kane asks his daughter who nods with a blush. "As long as he makes you happy."
"He does," Octavia says. "Alright, get ready and meet us outside, we're going to give you a tour," Octavia says before she leaves with Lincoln.
"She's all grown up," Aurora says.
"That's not going to stop me from threating him," Kane says as he looks at the door.
"I'll help," Bellamy says.
Lexa's P.O.V
The elevator stops on the top floor of the tower and Lexa and Clarke walk out. They walk to the throne room and push the door open. Titus's body laid on a table and a man stood in front of it. "Did you find the assassin?" Lexa asks the guard who shakes his head. "What did you find?"
"Nothing Commander," The guard says. "Only the body, I have guards searching the room for anything that could tell us why the assassin was there."
"Leave," Lexa tells the guard who nods as he leaves the room and Lexa walks up to the body.
"I'm sorry, Lexa," Clarke says.
"Really? He hated you and you weren't his busy fan," Lexa says.
"I know, but you cared about him," Clarke says as she lays her hand on Lexa's shoulder. Lexa looks back at Clarke and then lays her hand on top of Clarke's.
"Thank you, Clarke," Lexa says. Clarke nods as the door is pushed open and a guard walks into the room.
"We found something, Commander," He says as he holds a journal out to Lexa. "The first page."
Lexa takes the journal and nods for the guard to leave. She opens the journal. "Nia's people have taken Costia. She has fulfilled her end of our agreement. I hate to hurt Heda but the Commander must be alone. Nia get's to hurt her enemy and in doing so, Lexa will see that I was right and this will keep her safe, it will allow her to be the best Commander we have even known," Lexa stares at the page before she flips to the second one. "Nia sent Costia's head to Lexa. At least I that is what I believe. Lexa believes it as well, but who knows what Nia could be doing, if this is truly Costia. But as long as Lexa believes that her love is dead. She will be safe. I will always protect her. She must believe that love is weakness," Lexa stares at the journal for a moment before she throws it across the room. Clarke looks at her in shock as she lets out a shout of anger and flips the table that Titus's body was on knocking the body to the ground.
"Lexa, what is it?"
"It was him! He gave Costia to Nia! He betrayed me! He helped kill the woman I loved!" Lexa shouts in anger. She breathes heavily as she stares at the body. "He helped hurt me more than anybody else alive," She says softly. "Just so I would believe him. So I would believe his lie," She says as her voice breaks. "He caused me so much pain."
A tear slides down Lexa's face as Clarke wraps her arms around her. "He's gone now, he will never hurt you again," Lexa wraps her arms around Clarke. Lexa lays her head on Clarke's shoulder.
"I'm glad you're here, Clarke," Lexa says.
"I'll always be by your side," Clarke says.
Lexa pulls away from Clarke. "Why would you want to stay by my side, everybody dies that way. You would be safer as far away from me as possible. That is how you survive Clarke," Lexa says.
"I don't want my life to be just about surviving. I want my life…our life to be more than that. Shouldn't life be about more than just surviving?"
Lexa stays silent for a moment before she lays her hand on Clarke's face and pulls the blond into a kiss. Clarke lays her hand on Lexa's neck as she kisses her and after a moment. Lexa pulls back. "It should be about more than just surviving," Lexa says. "Our lives will be about more than just surviving."
