Chapter 23-The Border
No one's P.O.V
Clarke rode her horse forward and cut down the first man, swinging her sword across his chest. An arrow is shot through her horse's neck. She falls to the ground quickly picking herself up as she is charged by two men. She hits one sword away as she jabs her sword into the second's man's chest. She ducks under another swing from the first man and stabs her sword upwards into his neck. She removes the blade and moves towards another soldier.
Lexa fought beside Anya as she stabbed her sword into a woman's chest. Anya rolled away from a swing and swung her sword taking the soldier's leg off. He falls to the ground screaming as Anya rises and hits another soldier's sword away from her before stabbing him through the eye.
Raven stabbed her sword into a man's heart. Behind her Luna hits a sword away and swings her sword upwards across a man's chest. He falls to the ground as Raven blocks a swing from a woman who is then stabbed in through side by Luna. She removes her sword from the woman as the two continue to fight.
Jake fought with Indra and Gustus. Jake stabs a man in the throat as Gustus swings his sword cutting a woman's head off. Indra hits one sword away and swings her sword up across the man's chest.
Lexa's P.O.V
Lexa stabbed a man through the eye and looked around seeing nobody else coming towards her as the rest of the Azgeda soldiers were cut down. The sun was starting to rise in the air as Lexa put her sword in her sheath. She looks at Anya as she does the same. "Have our men start to build camp, I want trenches and towers build, no one sneaks up on us," Lexa tells her general who nods as she walks away from her.
Lexa begins to walk but stops when a man grabs her leg. "Please, Heda," He begs. Lexa looks at him for a moment before she removes her sword and stabs it into his back. She puts her sword back and looks at Octavia as she walks up to her.
"Are you okay?" Lexa asks her.
"I'm fine," Octavia says. "I got a few cuts, but I'll live, what now?"
"We set up camp, and we treat who we can, and figure out the best way to get to Azgeda with the least amount of loses. That is where Nia will keep the largest part of her army," Lexa tells her. "For now, help where you can."
Octavia nods as she walks away.
Nia's P.O.V
Nia sat her on her throne as her general came into the room. "I do not see the Commander's head," Nia says. "Did she flee?"
"No, my queen. The force we saw moving towards us was a distraction, the Commander took the rest of her army and attacked a weaker part of the border, she is in Azgeda," The general tells Nia.
Nia stands. "I trust you with the command of my Army. If we lose this war, I will die. Is that what you want?"
"Of course not, my Queen."
"Yet Lexa has entered our territory and will go through all of our camps until she reaches us. So, you tell me why I should not kill you?"
"Because I can still win this war, I have served you since our first war with the Commander. I know how she thinks,"
"Is that so? Then how did you not see this coming!?" Nia shouts at the general who backs up. "You do not know how she thinks, I don't either, she is not Commander because of her looks, fail me again and I will put your head on a pike."
"I will not fail again, I swear," The general says before he quickly leaves the room.
Clarke's P.O.V
Clarke stood in the medical tent tending to a man who lost his arm. "Clarke, I need your help," Nyko says.
"I'm busy," Clarke says as she presses a bandage against the unconscious man's arm.
"You cannot save him, we must save who we can," Nyko tells Clarke as blood continues to pour from the man's stump. Clarke stares at the man for a second before she lets go of the bandage and goes over to Nyko. "I need you to hold him down. I need to coitize the wound,"
Clarke nods as she holds the man down. Nyko grabs the knife out of the fire as Clarke holds the woman down. He presses the knife against the stab wound as the woman screams and pain and starts to move around. Clarke holds her down as she passes out and Nyko finishes. "I can do the rest," Nyko tells Clarke who nods as she looks at the man she was helping and sees that he is no longer breathing. "I know it is hard," Nyko says making Clarke look at him. "As healers we want to help everybody we can. But in war, we must decide who we can save but who can also help us, he would not have been able to, not with that wound. In war we choose who lives and who dies in this tent. It will never get easier, but it will save lives if we choose right, this woman will live because of us, she will continue to fight."
Clarke nods as Gustus brings in another soldier.
Roan's P.O.V
Roan looks at Lexa as he looks at two men on the ground. Both alive and staring at him. "They hid from us," Roan says. "Cowards."
"You're a traitor," One growls.
"My mother betrayed me first," Roan says. "What do I do with them?"
"Kill them, we do not have the supplies to take care of prisoners," Lexa tells Roan who nods as he removes his sword and kills the two men. "Are you still sure about what we are doing?"
"Killing them didn't bother me, Heda. I want to kill my mother, that is all I care about, all these idiots who stand in my way will die," Roan tells him. "They stopped being my people when they didn't fight for me."
Lexa nods as Roan walks away from her.
Raven's P.O.V
Raven sat against a rock as Luna cleaned a cut on her shoulder. "You know we have a medical tent, right?" Raven asks her.
"They don't need to be bothered with this, I can do it," Luna says.
"Are you just good at everything?"
"Yes," Luna says. "When I first started Floukru, we didn't have a healer for a while, so I learned, I'm not as good as Clarke and Nyko but I know the basics," Luna says. "You did good."
"So did you," Raven says. "I would love to sleep."
"So would I, but we must set up camp, we probably won't move until, tomorrow. Nia isn't going to send her soldiers after us. They'll be at a disadvantage."
"What do we do with all the bodies?" Raven asks as she looks at the body.
"They'll be thrown into a pile and burned, as many as we can," Luna tells her. Raven nods as Luna finishes. "Let's go find the others."
Murphy's P.O.V
Murphy walked through the tower. "What are you looking for?" Murphy turns around and looks at Emori. "Emori, right?"
"Yes."
"Why are you here? I thought you left yesterday."
"Clarke asked me to stay, I'm not the best fighter," Emori says as she holds her hand up. "But she asked me to stay and help you guys. So, I ask again, what are you looking for?"
"I'm just looking around," Murphy says. "I don't have to be down to the training yard for another hour, so I'm giving myself a tour."
"I'll give you, one. Come on," Emori says as she walks in front of him and Murphy sighs as he follows her.
Kane's P.O.V
Kane walked up behind Aurora and wrapped his arms around her waist as she watched the city from the balcony. "Our daughter might be dead," Aurora says.
"She isn't," Kane says softly.
"How can you be so sure?" Aurora asks.
"I don't know, but I just know that she is still out there, and she is going to come back, it might be a couple of weeks, but she will be back," Kane tells her. "When she is, we'll be here waiting for her."
Aurora nods as she turns and looks at him. "She'll come back."
"She'll come back."
Clarke's P.O.V
Clarke wrapped a bandage around a man's arm. "Go help the others Clarke," Nyko tells her. "I have enough help, if I need more, I will send for you."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, we've saved who we can, the rest will either die during the night or they will live," Nyko tells Clarke who nods as she leaves the tent. She looks around the camp. Over the day they had made trenches and set up tents and watch towers. She looks at Indra as she walks up to her. "Have you seen, Lexa."
"Her tent," Indra says as she points at the large tent. "She asked me to get you when you were done."
"Thanks, Indra," Clarke says. Indra nods as she walks towards Lexa's tent. She nods at Gustus as she enters the tent. Lexa was bend over a table looking at the marks she had made. "Lexa."
Lexa looks at her. She walks over to Clarke and hugs her. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine," Clarke says as she let's Lexa go and kisses her. "How about you?"
"I could use some help."
"Sit down," Clarke tells her and Lexa nods as she sits down. Clarke grabs her bag as Lexa pulls her shirt up revealing a cut. "Why didn't you come to us?"
"You had more important matters and this isn't that bad," Lexa says as Clarke starts to clean the wound.
"How many did we lose?"
"We haven't done a full count yet, but Azgeda lost more," Lexa tells her.
"So, what's next?" Clarke asks.
"There is a village, two hours from here. It supplies a lot of food for the capital of Azgeda. We take that out. Nia will struggle in the weeks to come," Lexa tells Clarke who nods. "There should not be many soldiers."
Clarke nods. "Does Roan know anything that may help us?"
"He's told me everything he knows. That is how I found out about this village," Lexa tells her. "No clan is helping Azgeda, as long as we take out their supplies, they will either starve or surrender."
Clarke nods as she finishes stitching the wound. "You are all done."
"Good, now get some sleep," Lexa says.
"The sun hasn't even set yet."
"You have had a long day, you need to sleep, Clarke. I will wake you if you are needed. It will not be long before everybody else goes to their tents too."
"I need to eat first," Clarke says.
"Fine but after you sleep."
"Yes, Mom," Clarke says. "Come on," Lexa nods as she follows her out of the tent.
Thanks for reading. Next chapter the army moves onto the village, Nia starts to work on a plan, Skaikru continues to train and Jaha begins to prepare for the ground. As always suggestions, ideas, and feedback are welcomed. Until next time.
