10/12/2656- Police Vessels Commandeered Across The Union, Resistance Faced To The Order

"Today, the Union President signed an executive order ordering all police and system patrol vessels controlled by local governments within the Union be handed over to the Union Navy for the duration of the current crisis. Their crews are to be conscripted with Union officers put in command. There has been some resistance to the order within several local governments, notably the Prolar Protectorate, a semi independent nation deep within Union territory in the Milos Cluster. The Protectorate was formed from the Prolar Confederation after the Union-Confederation War 200 years ago as a stipulation of the peace treaty, removing much of the nation's autonomy. The Protectorate Assembly and Navy have put out statements claiming that the Protectorate Navy is unaffected by the order due to its partial independence, unlike the Commonalities. The Protectorate Navy is a shadow of its forberer two centuries ago, restricted both in size and maximum ship tonnage by treaty. Nonetheless, it is the strongest naval force within Union Space outside of the Union Navy itself, having a formidable fleet that includes many corvettes, frigates, sloops, destroyers, small cruisers, and modest monitors for the defense of the Protectorate's four systems. The Union has yet to respond to the declaration, but the erosion of Protectorate autonomy over the last two centuries, much to the displeasure of the population, makes it clear what it is likely to be."
