The fire station was alive with the sounds of laughter and chatter as the team settled in for their afternoon. Sirius was still riding the high from the evening before, where they'd shared stories and laughter over plans for a barbecue. Just as he was about to pour himself another cup of coffee, the door swung open, and Bobby stepped inside, a confident smile plastered across his face.
"Hey, everyone!" Bobby called out, his voice booming through the station. The chatter quieted, and all eyes turned toward him, curiosity piqued. "Sirius, Regulus! Can I have a word with you two?"
Sirius exchanged a glance with Regulus, a mix of intrigue and apprehension reflected in both their expressions. "What's up, Bobby?" Sirius asked, setting his coffee cup down and stepping forward.
Bobby leaned against the doorframe, his arms crossed, a glimmer of mischief in his eyes. "I've been thinking about something, and I wanted to run it by you both. We're in need of more hands on deck here at the station, especially with Buck going on maternity leave soon."
Regulus raised an eyebrow, the gears in his mind turning. "You mean you want us to help out? But we're not firefighters!"
"That's the beauty of it!" Bobby said, his enthusiasm bubbling over. "I want to make you both firefighters, along with Archive and Lucifer. I know it sounds wild, but hear me out. You already have training with the dogs, and we could really use your skills. Plus, you're both great under pressure."
Sirius's eyes widened in disbelief. "Wait, wait, wait. You want us to be firefighters? Us?" He pointed between himself and Regulus, half-laughing, half-incredulous. "Are you serious?"
"Absolutely!" Bobby replied, his smile unwavering. "I wouldn't suggest this if I didn't think you could handle it. Besides, it's not just about fighting fires. It's about helping people, and I know you both have that instinct."
Regulus shifted on his feet, the weight of the suggestion sinking in. "But we've never been trained for this," he said, his voice hesitant. "What if we mess something up? It's a big responsibility!"
"That's why I'm offering the training," Bobby reassured, stepping closer to them. "We can get you both enrolled in the firefighter training program. It won't be easy, but I believe in you. And think of it—Archie and Luci would be with you, too. They'd make great support animals on calls."
Sirius felt his heart race at the thought. The idea of becoming a firefighter was daunting, but it was also thrilling. "And what happens when Buck comes back?" he asked, glancing at Regulus for confirmation.
Bobby nodded. "When Buck returns, we'll have a bigger team. You could either stay on as full-time firefighters or choose a different role, but we need to fill the gap while he's on leave. It's a win-win!"
Regulus took a deep breath, his expression serious. "What about our current work? The K9 unit? The training we've done with Archive and Lucifer?"
"I wouldn't want to take that away from you," Bobby said quickly. "You can still be involved in K9 training while taking on this new role. Think of it as an expansion of your skills. You'd be diversifying your abilities!"
Sirius's mind raced as he considered the possibilities. "I mean, it does sound exciting," he admitted, glancing over at Regulus, who was still processing the information. "What do you think, Reg? Are you up for this?"
Regulus chewed his lip, a mixture of uncertainty and excitement flickering in his eyes. "I've always wanted to help people more directly. I just never considered being a firefighter."
"Exactly!" Bobby chimed in. "This could be a fantastic opportunity for both of you. You have the heart for it, and I know you'll excel. Plus, the adrenaline rush of fighting fires? You'd be hooked!"
Regulus finally cracked a smile, the tension easing from his shoulders. "Okay, I'm in. I can't let my brother have all the fun without me!"
Sirius laughed, relief washing over him. "You're serious? I thought you'd be more hesitant!"
"Yeah, well, I'm still hesitant," Regulus said, playfully rolling his eyes. "But if it means doing something meaningful and getting to work with Archive and Lucifer, how could I say no?"
Bobby clapped his hands together, a look of triumph on his face. "That's what I like to hear! I'll set up the training schedule, and we can get you both started right away. Just think—by the time Buck is back, you'll be ready to roll!"
"Speaking of Buck," Sirius said, looking over his shoulder. "What does he think about this?"
Just then, Buck walked in, looking slightly disheveled but beaming. He caught the tail end of their conversation and raised an eyebrow. "What's this about? I hear my name, and I'm curious."
Bobby grinned widely. "I was just telling your boys here that they're going to become firefighters along with their K9 partners."
Buck's eyes widened in surprise. "Really? That's fantastic!" he exclaimed, walking over to the three of them. "Sirius, Regulus, you're both going to be amazing at it!"
"Yeah, but what if we mess up?" Regulus asked, a hint of anxiety creeping back in.
Buck chuckled, placing a reassuring hand on Regulus's shoulder. "You won't mess up. We'll be training together, and you'll have the whole team supporting you. Plus, you already have a foundation with your K9 work. You're practically halfway there!"
Sirius nodded, feeling a surge of confidence at Buck's words. "Alright, I'm excited! Let's do this!"
Bobby's face lit up with enthusiasm. "Great! We'll have a meeting later to go over the details, and then we can start training next week. You both ready to commit?"
"Definitely!" Sirius said, and Regulus echoed him with a nod.
"Perfect!" Bobby clapped his hands together again, looking energized. "I can already see the headlines: 'Rainbow Reg and Sirius the Firefighter Save the Day!'"
Regulus smirked, shooting a glare at Sirius. "Let's hope I don't end up with hair the color of flames."
Sirius burst out laughing, the anxiety from earlier melting away. "If you do, we'll just make it a new trend!"
The playful banter resumed, filling the station with laughter and camaraderie once more. Sirius felt a sense of belonging that warmed him from the inside out. The uncertainty of the future began to fade as he realized they were embarking on an exciting new chapter together.
As the team settled back into their routine, Sirius and Regulus exchanged glances, both silently acknowledging the leap they were about to take together. They were stepping into a world that was both thrilling and terrifying, but with each other's support and the love of their team, they knew they would face whatever challenges came their way.
Bobby turned to leave, still grinning. "Alright, get ready, because this is going to be one wild ride!"
Sirius could hardly contain his excitement. "Bring it on!" he shouted after Bobby, a wide grin spreading across his face. He looked at Regulus, who mirrored his enthusiasm. Whatever lay ahead, they would face it together—brothers, partners, and now, firefighters.
