The Protagonist - Ch2

Disclaimer: I do NOT own Pokemon. I only own my character.

"Prepare for trouble, for the umpteenth time!"

"Make it double and I'll make it rhyme!"

"To protect the world from devastation!"

"To unite all peoples within our nation!"

"To denounce the evils of truth and love!"

"To extend our reach to the stars above!"

"Jessie!"

"James!"

"Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light!"

"Surrender now or prepare for an out-of-this-world fight!"

"That's right!"

'I forgot Team Rocket does this shit every time they appear, it's pretty funny sometimes but every single time is actually insane.'

At the moment, Ruby was sitting in a tree, watching his new "friends" in Team Rocket attempt to steal this special Pikachu he has been told about. Looking at the people who had to be perplexed at Team Rocket's intro, he saw the girl, May, from earlier, the "professor" who was being chased around by tiny little Poochyena, and a boy wearing a blue sweatshirt with black sleeves, a red and black hat, and jeans.

Said boy was holding a Pikachu, which looked very familiar.

'Holdup, is that A-'

His body fell to the ground from the tree, his mind being forced from his body.

Location - ?

Darkness

Once again, that was all he saw.

It didn't take long however, for color to appear from the black abyss. A tiny green line from what Ruby saw at first, but as it got closer, Ruby could actually tell what it was.

A humongous green serpent with yellow insignia engraved into its skin, a fierce, V shaped pointed head, a giant maw, and piercing yellow eyes.

Compared to the Legendary Pokemon, Ruby was almost like an ant - an ant floating in darkness, but an ant nonetheless.

It swam around him, seemingly inspecting the boy, before stopping right in front of him, and looking Ruby right in his eyes.

"You are not supposed to be here."

Ruby's eyes widened.

"Because of that, I have been sent to give you a message.

I suggest you not take this lightly, as this is a one-time warning.

You are only here because it would take too much effort to get rid of you,

So you will be given a chance to live a new life, with one rule.

You WILL NOT harm ANY of the Chosen Ones, or ANY of their Pokemon."

Ruby couldn't believe his ears. He was inferior to other people? Just because some Legendary Pokemon said that they like this one guy more than normal?

This thought pushed him to make a uh, irrational decision at best.

"Are you FUCKING kidding me? What makes them so special compared to me? I apparently get transported from one world to the next without my permission and now it's my fault? Now I have to get "warned" by the Pokemon that got BITCHED by Deoxys, just because big poppa Arceus didn't feel like dealing with business? REALLY?!"

The Sky High Pokemon stood silent for a moment, before letting out an ear shattering guffaw.

"BWAHAHAHAHA! It's been a long time since ANY mortal has spoken like that to me.

You should consider yourself lucky that I'm not in a fighting mood, otherwise you would be crippled when you arrive back in your body.

But to answer your question, yes, you are inferior to those we Legendary Pokemon call the Chosen Ones.

If you want an answer as to why, then ask yourself - have you ever saved the world?"

Ruby stayed silent this time.

"Exactly. Now, since you have been so entertaining, I will leave you with a gift of my own.

It gets boring staying up in the sky sometimes, so when you aren't a weakling anymore come and give me a visit.

You know where I'll be, Dimension Traveler."

Rayquaza let out a huge roar, which sent Ruby backwards into the abyss, and he saw darkness once again

"I think it's a really cool Pokemon!"

That was the first thing Ruby heard once he woke up from his Legendary induced slumber.

'Damn, what the hell happened? One minute I'm sitting in a tree watching Team Rocket, the next I'm face to face with fucking Rayquaza, now I'm back - wait, where am I?'

The "Dimension Traveler" sat up from his laid down position, and immediately remembered what happened.

Ash Ketchum had happened.

The future champion was currently looking at a green reptilian Pokemon, one Ruby easily identified as Treecko. Ruby also noticed that May was here as well, and because of that, he remembered that she was a new trainer according to the "professor". Therefore, she must be picking out her first Pokemon, which would be one from the Hoenn starter trio.

'And if I remember correctly,' he thought. 'May picks Torchic since she doesn't like Mudkip or Treecko, and Torchic was extremely friendly with her. Her Blaziken was weak as all hell though - I can't remember much about the Anime but I know it tied with Ash's Sceptile in a contest, how it didn't obliterate that lizard with a type advantage is bey-'

"He's awake!"

That line came from the trainer in question, who had apparently noticed Ruby sitting on the cushioned couch nearby.

This caused the other two in the room to turn to him, with the protagonist looking at him with a sympathetic expression as the professor walked over to him.

"Finally! You had all of us worried about what had happened to you lad. Do you remember what happened?"

Ruby sat silent for a moment as he thought of a reasonable explanation.

"I don't fully know. I was sitting up in a tree, next thing I know I'm sitting here. I must've passed out or something, but I don't know why that would've happened."

He said this with a thoughtful expression - one that was not fully faked, but was partly a show he put on to try and keep suspicion of anything out of the ordinary (like what had actually happened) far and away from him.

The professor started pacing around the room slowly, looking like he had his thinking cap on, before he suddenly stopped and walked back over to May and Ash.

"Well, whatever happened to you must be fine now! I'm an expert in Pokemon anyways, so any diagnosis I gave you could've been very easily flawed. For the moment, I suggest you just try to take it slow Ruby. You don't have any Pokemon too, so you were going to have to wait for a solution to be made for that anyways! Hahahah!"

'Well', thought Ruby, relieved. 'That just put the professor into his happy mood. Maybe I can take advantage of this…'

Whilst Ruby was plotting and planning, the Professor went back to showing the three starter Pokemon to May, with Ash chipping in about each Pokemon.

"And this is Mudkip."

"THAT'S a Water type!"

That comment knocked Ruby right back out of his private thoughts.

'Holy dude, Ash is a straight up idiot! He thought Treecko was a Water type at first, so now he has to be absolutely sure that Mudkip is a Water type even though the starter trio is always water, grass, and fire. He really is a dumbass, tried and true.'

Professor Birch then released the last of the Hoenn starter trio.

"Next, I would like you to meet Torchic. Torchic is a Fire type."

The future Fire/Fighting type Pokemon was released from its Pokeball, and it immediately took a liking to May, running to her leg and rubbing against it affectionately.

'Well, there goes my plan already', thought Ruby. 'I guess it wasn't a very good plan to begin with considering it relied on May picking a different Pokemon, but I'm still annoyed I didn't even get to try it out, since the Professor seems like a nice person, and probably would've given me Torchic if I had played the pity card.'

Why not still try and get Treecko or Mudkip, one might ask? Well, to answer that question, Ruby did remember certain things about the Hoenn Anime - specifically, that within the first like 20 episodes, the main cast finds the habitats of wild Treecko and Mudkip respectively, with the Treeckos being located right in Petalburg Woods. The Mudkips he wasn't entirely sure of, but he knew that Brock gets one very early, and that there was a huge Mudkip in the episode - one that he wanted badly.

'With Torchic though, there was no spot the gang found where a ton of them lived, so if I don't get one now, I'm actually going to have to search to find one, which will likely be a pain considering how rare the starters are made out to be in the games - though since this is the Anime it might be different. Considering there are giant civilizations of the other two starters, there may be one for Torchic too that wasn't mentioned in the show.'

"Sounds like a great goal May!"

The protagonist broke him out of his thought process while encouraging May to become a strong Pokemon trainer, something she definitely failed at considering how weak her Blaziken was, and based on the fact that Ruby couldn't remember any of her original Hoenn team besides her Blaziken.

As May exited the building, Ash told Birch, "I'm going to go back and sit with Pikachu until he wakes up, Professor."

The kindly man responded. "Of course Ash! I'm sure Pikachu will be happy to see you there when he wakes up!"

As Ash left the room, Ruby contemplated what to do. Should he try and get one of the professor's Pokemon anyways? Or should he just wait until he gets to the areas where the starters are easily available and avoid any drama with him?

The tree named Professor actually ended up making the decision for him.

"Well son, I can't give you one of the official "starter" Pokemon of the Hoenn region since you don't have any kind of qualification of living here, but there is a Pokemon I can give you to make sure you have help when you need it."

The Professor pulled out a Pokeball from his desk, and Ruby saw his future partner materialize in a flash of white.

End!

Shorter chapter than before, but I write in spurts so if I didn't cut it off here then I likely would've taken another like 3 or so days to finish it. Would rather just get the content out quicker to keep interest in the story, but that's just my opinion. I have also just decided I will make a different story for responding to reviews, so expect that to pop up soon.

There is a poll on my profile, and another one active but not on my profile, but I don't know how polls really work so I don't know if you can access both. If you can then please complete both, but if not then please vote in the poll I have set on my profile.

Also, Internet Archive (where I watch the Hoenn Anime for dialogue and just knowing how to write someone) is currently down, so it might be a little while longer until the next chapter is released.

Besides all that though, thoughts on the story so far? Did I do a decent job with keeping the story different and interesting? Is it actually good or just mid? Who will Ruby's first Pokemon be? What is Rayquaza's "Gift"? Please review and lmk what you thought of the chapter and what you think I should do next. Thanks for reading, and peace.
