Chapter 2

"How are we doing in here?" Fiyero asked as he poked his head into Bayram's room.

"Is everything ready?" The Lieutenant wanted to know as the Captain closed the door behind him. Bayram was seated in a chair trying to get used to the tightness of his dress shirt.

"Zetti has it under control. Besides, he knows if he doesn't, he's getting demoted," Fiyero chuckled. That made Bayram chuckle as well.

"We aren't going traditional. I hope the dignitaries will be ok with that. I don't want my first impression to be a bad one," the Lieutenant admitted.

"Honestly, my parents wouldn't have suggested it if they felt it would cause trouble," Fiyero said.

"I know, and I would never suggest that they would, but we are skipping the Royal Church of Oz," Bayram said. He'd never been overly religious but sometimes tradition was tradition.

"About time," Boq spoke up. He'd been shining the Lieutenant's dress shoes. The two looked at him.

"You seem to forget what a so-called religious upbringing did to Elphaba," the Munchkin pointed out.

"I try not to think of Frex ever," Fiyero told him. Boq nodded.

"I try not to pry but I can imagine that him knowing that Elphaba was not his child, went over like a lead balloon," Bayram said.

"I'm not sure that it would have mattered. She was an embarrassment to him. She was green and he never let her forget it," Fiyero said.

"I can't imagine what he would think of her now," Bayram smirked.

"He'd have probably keeled over," Boq was blunt.

"His loss is our gain. Speaking of which, when are you two getting married?" Bayram gave the Prince a look.

"Glinda said we have to wait a year before we try and steal her thunder," Fiyero chuckled.

"I imagine your folks would want to throw one heck of a party," Bayram said.

"Oh indeed, which is why I think Glinda is worried we'll show up the "royal" wedding," the Prince said.

"Why are we calling it a royal wedding anyway? I thought Glinda's title of "Lady" was just because no one could think of anything better," Boq looked up from the shoes.

"You shine those shoes anymore and people are going to be able to see up Glinda's dress," Bayram gave him a look. Boq blushed and handed over the shoes.

"Honestly, I think it's because it was always called that. Technically, the Vinkus is the only one to have a monarchy left, despite the fact that my parents really don't run things like a monarchy," Fiyero told them.

"Well as long as it counts, that's all I care about," the Lieutenant said. There was a knock on the door, which interrupted their conversation.

"We need the groom to head out to the garden in two minutes," Corporal Roth said to Fiyero when he opened the door.

"You got it. How's it looking out there?" The Prince asked the young man.

"Amazing, sir. I'm sure Lady Glinda will be happy," Roth smiled.

"Excellent. See you soon," Fiyero smiled back and then closed the door. When he turned around, he noticed Bayram was looking a little green.

"You ok?" The Captain asked.

"It's my nerves," Bayram said. Boq handed him a trash can before putting his hand to his forehead.

"He's burning up," the Munchkin looked at Fiyero. The Prince came over and felt his forehead and confirmed what Boq was noticing.

"I'll get Elphaba. He doesn't leave this room. If Glinda gets sick, we'll never hear the end of it," Fiyero tried to crack a joke before he took off looking for the green woman.
