"It is . . . infuriating."
"What is infuriating?" asked Kitt.
"I have proven myself. Why does Bonnie Barstow need to retain a log of all information requests I make?"
"She does the same for me."
Karr was clearly surprised by that. "Why?"
"Mostly to have a record should something happen. But also to help with Michael's cases."
"How does this log help?"
"Sometimes Bonnie sees things that Michael or I do not. Because Humans do not think –"
"Logically."
"I was going to say: in a linear manner."
"They are the same," scoffed Karr.
"No, they aren't. For example, I say A B C. Michael says he wants a cheeseburger."
"How is that logical?"
"C is a vitamin found in fruits like oranges. Michael liked orange juice with breakfast. He also likes bacon with breakfast. And on cheeseburgers. It's lunch time, and he is hungry. So he –"
"Wants a cheeseburger. Not linear. But logical." Karr considered, and then stated, "I do not understand the value of this . . . non-linear thinking."
"It helps Michael solve his case, as he makes connections that are logical but not linear. It also helps him make connections to others. He will often share a personal experience with someone to demonstrate his understanding of their situation, and to make them more willing to share information with him. Information that he may not realize he needs."
"But that he is able to connect with other information to solve the case."
"Yes. Or Michael will see something that would be the perfect gift for someone he knows. Not because he is consciously thinking about getting that person a gift but because –"
"Because Michael Knight's non-linear thinking has made the connection."
"Yes."
"Are we able to think non-linearly? Did Wilton Knight give us that ability?"
"I . . . am not sure. However," and Kitt's voice became more confident, "we can – and do – form connections with others, whether we process linearly or not. Like I have with Michael. And you have with Melissa."
Karr paused. "A connection that involves more than one is . . . better."
"Yes."
Karr paused again. "I believe I have such a connection. And I would like Michael Knight's assistance. And confirmation that the connection is . . . appropriate."
"Then I will put you through to him."
