Letters 2

Dear Draco,

How are you? I have heard from Master Snape that the Headmistress seems to have lost her marbles since class has restarted for the new year. I hope you are safe.

Master Snape has also let me know that you have gotten closer all of a sudden to the young Potter and his small circle of friends. I am a little curious; I had thought that road was no longer available as you had set up yourself as his rival. What happened that you have suddenly succeeded where you had previously failed?

I am sending you some potions from your Mother. She fears the worst and I hope you don't need them.

Sincerely,

Your Father,

Lucius Malfoy

.

Dear Father,

I beg of you to be discrete with the contents of this letter. If anyone were to see it, it could mean our death.

It was a plan of Theo's and mine. You know that we've been flooing each other this summer, Father, and we discovered something about Potter. Unfortunately, because of the nature of the secret, I don't want to share it in a letter. However, we decided that if there was opportunity, even if very vague, that we would befriend Potter. It worked, even if I had to acknowledge my faults for it to work.

I've heard from you how the Dark Lord came back temporarily in that incident in which you were hostage. Because of that, I suspect that the Dark Lord is somewhat immortal. I have learned that Potter is the same, that he will come back from the dead until/unless certain conditions are met. Remember that night I accidentally overheard you and my Potions Professor talking about how Potter was marked as his equal and that he has the power to kill the Dark Lord? If Potter is truly his equal, that means that the Dark Lord is also immortal unless certain conditions are met. However, because we, and now you, know this, you know what danger we might find ourselves in. A conditional immortality must be heavily safegaurded if it was gained through effort, whereas I know the deity Death gave the Potters theirs.

I do acknowledge one failing in mine and Theo's plan. Vincent, Greg, and I have all been included into the Potter friend group, but Theo hasn't. There appears to be an "all in, or not in" style in Potter's circle. Even though Weasley was not part of Potter's group for part of fourth year, and it seemed that Potter might have been on the verge of leaving it himself in second, the group seems to thrive on constant togetherness. Even Longbottom, with his half-timid attempts at comradery, is not part of the group. Instead, the two have joined together with a few others into what I would almost call an adjacent group, except that it seems that Potter is oblivious in their meaning to be friends and not acquaintances. Even so, they are civil at least.

Father, the Headmistress has let the Slytherins know that she will soon be implementing another group for the sole purpose of making sure people are following her orders. I fear that she will assign it to us, and I hate to see how that could be used by her as proof of betrayal when there was none.

I hope that this will end shortly.

Sincerely,

Your Son,

Draco Malfoy

.

Harry,

Umbridge may be assigning the Slytherins to enforcing her rules. I know many of us don't want to, including me. She may force us into doing so.
