You're So Sweet

Season Two, after "Band on the Run." Inspired by Cory's comment in "It's a Long Walk to Pittsburgh" that Topanga had taught him how to dance.

The next one after the "Feeny Song" was much softer. The sort of music Jedidiah with that had taught Topanga how to dance. She closed her eyes, feeling the vibrations of the music just like her father said she would. It was wonderful to have a father who was a musician.

"This melody is perfect for dancing," Topanga said, opening her eyes but still feeling one with the music. She held out her hand for Cory to accept.

His adorable brown eyes grew big, and they darted between her and the exit. "I'd loved to, Topanga, I really would, but…" He sighed, briefly staring at his feet before glancing back at her. "I'm not sure… I don't know…" Despite his nerves, Cory looked truly upset that he couldn't accept her invitation to dance.

He clearly knew how much she'd wanted to dance tonight. That's what made him such a good friend.

Placing her hand in his, Topanga smiled at him. "There's no one here to see if you make a mistake. And I'll help you." The grin he gave her in return made her heart jump.

"Put your other hand here," she said, bringing his left hand to the same spot on her waist that Jedidiah had put his hand. Then she placed her left hand on Cory's shoulder.

It felt warm and firm and touching him made her hand tingle.

"Now we move our feet to the music like this," Topanga said, attempting to guide Cory's feet to the right direction. Just like Jedidiah had guided hers.

Unfortunately, his coordination was lacking, and Topanga stumbled over Cory's feet while he stepped on hers. "See, Topanga." He shook his head. "I'm no good at this."

Topanga shook her head, not letting go of his hand or his shoulder. "Why don't we try again? Remember, there is no one here but us." They placed their feet in the right position, and she guided his feet in the right direction again.

"Just let the music flow through you, Cory," she told him, just like Jedidiah had told her. "And the vibrations will become a part of you."

Cory obviously didn't let the vibrations become a part of him, but he followed Topanga's lead. His feet moved slower than Topanga and Jedidiah, but they succeeded this time. In fact, their achievement felt so good, Topanga almost felt she was floating. By the happy look on Cory's face, she thought he might have felt something similar.

She couldn't stop looking at that happy face or into those adorable eyes.

But suddenly, Cory backed away, shaking his head. "You have a date, Topanga. Thank you for helping me with dancing, but aren't you supposed to be meeting him soon?" He let go of her hand.

She sighed, missing the presence of his hand. A part of Topanga wished to say she had wanted Cory to be her date to this dance. Hadn't she told him she wanted to "know what his plans were" before she accepted Jeremy's invitation?

But a larger part of her couldn't help but notice how nice it was that Cory had thought of Jeremy when it was a bit inconvenient. She couldn't think of another boy who would do such a thing. "You're so sweet, Cory." She let go of his hand. "And you're right. I told him I catch up with him."

"And I promised Shawn I'd catch up with him."
