'They offered you the city...'
'And you refused it.'
'And what did you do instead?'
'What I've come to expect of you.'
'you saved them.'
'You gave them the one thing that was stolen from them.'
'A chance.'
'A chance to learn.'
'To find love.'
'To live.'
'And in the end, what was your reward?'
'You never said.'
'But I think I know...'
'A family.'
When Jack opened his eyes, he didn't know what to expect. Maybe endless darkness, heaven, or being reborn. He wasn't sure, especially since he wasn't overly religious. Instead, in front of him was a beautiful girl who looked to be in their late teens sitting on a chair. He also noticed that he, too, was sitting on a chair. But he decided to focus on the girl in front of him.
Other than her unnatural light blue hair color, she wore a blue sleeveless vest with white trimmings and a green bow, a translucent short blue miniskirt (to which Jack wasn't a big fan of due to how short it was and how revealing), and detached white sleeves with blue and golden trimmings. She also wears blue thigh-high-heeled boots with white stockings with a blue trim.
"Hm? What are you doing here?" Said the girl, confused at Jack's appearance. "I should only be getting young Japanese here, not Americans," she said before looking closely at Jack. Then, a blue window appeared in front of the woman as she began to inspect something that Jack couldn't see. "Ah, I see you're from 'that' confusing world." The woman then began to mumble something about lost souls before speaking again. "Whatever, I'll deal with you like the rest." She then cleared her throat before continuing.
"Jack Wynand, welcome to the afterlife." Said the woman in a practiced somber tone, "Unfortunately, you passed away moments ago. But your life was a long and fulfilling one despite your beginnings. But now you are dead."
Jack knew the answer before the lady in front of him said it. He was saddened that he had to leave his girls behind, but he was still a mortal man in the end. His time had to come eventually, but Jack had no regrets. He raised his girls right and well, and he knew that they'll live a long fulfilling life with their own children. With a sad smile, he looks back at the woman before him.
"Honestly, what a boring life you had; I mean, you went through a whole city filled with freaks and killed the man who made you into an unwilling slave. But what did you do after that? Take five brats with you and raise them as your own!" Jack was surprised, no more shocked at the total 180 the woman did. At first, he thought he was meeting a messenger who would guide him to the next life or heaven. But instead, he's being insulted.
"I mean, come on, you had all these weird powers and stuff, and you let all that go for five brats!? Honestly, what a waste-*SMACK*" Whatever the woman was about to say was cut off by Jack slapping them across the face. The woman was surprised the someone would dare to raise a hand at her and was about to smite the man who struck her, only to shrink down into her chair in fear. Despite being a goddess, Aqua couldn't help but fear the man before her as Jack stood over her, giving her one of the most nastiest glares she'd ever seen in her short life as a goddess.
"I may not be the wisest man, I may not be the strongest man, nor the smartest, but I will not let anyone insult my children, whether they are a man, king, or a god. Am I clear?" Aqua would only nod quickly to Jack. "Good," said Jack calmly before sitting back down.
Aqua rubbed her cheek, wincing slightly at the pain, before giving Jack a slight glare. To which he responded with his own.
"Normally, I would've smitten you right here and now, but I still have my godly duties to do, even to disrespectful individuals like you." Jack would only scoff at that, causing the girl in front of him to pout before huffing. "My name is Aqua. A goddess who guides young deceased souls to the afterlife. But you're the exception today." Stopping a bit to let that sink in, only to be disappointed at Jack for not at least being one bit impressed by her, causing her to get ticked off a bit. 'I am more than tempted to just send this man to the parallel world without offering the chance to go to heaven. Wait, that's it!'
With a dramatic display, Aqua attempts to trick Jack into accepting being reincarnated into the other world. She's not even gonna offer him a cheat item.
"You currently have one choice, my brave soul! Due to your past accomplishments, you have been selected to be reincarnated into another world. A world that is currently being threatened by the demon king's army! The livelihoods of citizens are being trampled by monsters. Everyone lives in fear of the devil king's army mercilessly pillaging villages, killing all men, women, and children." She made sure to specify that last part, which got the reaction she wanted as she saw Jack tense. Smiling that her plan is succeeding, she continues, "So what do you say, Jack Wynand?" As she extended her hand for him to accept.
Jack sat there contemplating the goddess's words. Was he really worthy to be reborn? Or was he being used as a tool again? Can he refuse? "What if I refuse?"
"Huh? Why would you want to do that? Didn't you hear you were chosen to be reborn to be a hero?" Sounding nervous for some reason.
"I have lived my life already, Ms. Aqua. In truth, it feels like I'm only being used here. If you're a goddess, why don't you head down there and fix the problem yourself? You're a goddess, aren't you?" Jack was suspicious of this deal, especially since he recently slapped her. He thought this may be her way to try and get back at him.
Aqua, sweating nervously, began to deny his claims, "No, no! It is nothing like that, you see; you have a hero's heart and soul, plus, if you defeat the devil king, the gods will grant you any wish you desire as a reward."
"Anything?" Said Jack, this time sounding interested. Right now, he doesn't know what he'll wish for, but he will no doubt figure something out. And if he succeeds, he'll be able to live peacefully in heaven with his children once they finally cross over. But at the same time, Jack still feels like he's being used. "Alright, I accept this offer."
"Great!" Instantly, a magic circle appeared underneath Jack, surprising him. "Just stay in the magic circle, and I'll do the rest." But as she did so, a magic circle also appeared underneath her. "H-huh? What's this!?" Said a panicked Aqua.
"Lady Aqua." Said a beautiful voice before an angel appeared. "The gods have taken notice of your mismanagement of these souls. You have withheld information about the parallel world and were about to send this man into the parallel world blind."
"WHAT!?" Roared out, Jack. Turning, he gave the goddess a nasty glare, which caused her to shrink under his glare.
"Wait, wait, wait! I'm sorry, I'll be better; please don't punish me! I'll be better. I'll process this soul properly!" But Jack saw that her pleas were falling on deaf ears.
"Enough!" Shouted the angel, causing Aqua to squeal in fear. "Your punishment has been decided here and now." The angel then turned to Jack, and he saw just how beautiful she was. "Jack Wynand, you are a kind soul who went through great misfortunes at an early age. Despite all that, you still came out on top and became a fantastic father."
Jack couldn't help but smile at hearing that and nod his head at her in thanks.
"You may go into heaven, Jack, or as this excuse of a goddess has said," casting a brief glare at said goddess, "You may be reincarnated into this parallel world with your body and all your memories intact. And if you succeed in felling the demon king, the elder gods will grant you any wish you desire. So what is your choice, Jack Wynand?"
"I wish to help this world. I can't in good conscience leave a world like that in ruins when I know I can help. Especially one where children are suffering." And he meant it. When he first arrived in Rapture, even as a pawn, he couldn't leave those little sisters to their doom, forced to feed on the dead bodies of splicers to retrieve Adam. And now, he can't leave a world where more innocent children's lives are at stake.
The angel, smiling at Jack's words, accepted his request. "So be it." The magic circle then flared up, and he began to float. "As for you, Aqua, your punishment is to assist this man in his duty to rid the demon king. You may not return until it has been done."
"No, this can't be possible! It has to be against some rules, right!? Please, I'm sorry, I don't wanna go. He'll hit me again!" Jack could only stare at the 'goddess' in disgust as she begged to not be punished.
"Now, go forth forth on your journey!" Soon, the angel saw both of these disappear. "Good riddance, that girl definitely needed that. But I hope that man will be able to teach her to be a better goddess." She said with a sigh. She was about to leave before she noticed something odd. Right where Jack was sitting, there was now a grey tear, and the chair seemed to be glitching and changing forms. But the tear disappeared before the angel was able to investigate. "Odd."
(In the parallel world)
When Jack opened his eyes again, he saw he was now standing on a busy street. Carts were being pulled, children were playing, people were working, and overall, everyone was going through their day-to-day life.
"This place doesn't look too far off from home." Said Jack as he continued to observe his surroundings. In fact, he couldn't help but let the feeling of the sun hit him, the way the wind blew around him, and the clean air. Well, semi-clean as he caught a whiff of horse dung. "But better than spending my last months alive in the hospital." He thought out loud. But he was taken out of his musings when he heard small, pitiful cries next to him.
Turning to his right, he saw the goddess on the floor crying. He was more than tempted to leave her there, but he still had no information about this world. So, with great reluctance, he kneeled beside her and shook her. "Hey, get up. I have no idea where to go from here, and you're the only one I know." The goddess turned to him, her eyes all red and puffy. Witnessing her pitiful state, Jack couldn't help but think of his little girls. When they got hurt, they would cry and call out for him. And seeing her like this already fills him with regrets about leaving them.
But he shook his head, 'They're adults now with their own little ones. They're more than ready to be without me.' He thought before he moved his hands and began wiping her tears. "Calm now, goddess. Crying here won't help you. Come, get up, and let's figure out what to do here." He said, giving her a kind smile. Despite what she had tried to do to him earlier, Jack was willing to look it over if she had managed to pull her weight. But he definitely won't forget it. Still, he extended his hand for her to accept.
Seeing Jack's point, the goddess nodded and accepted his hand. "So then, Ms. Aqua, what do we do now? Am I given a guide? How about tools or weapons?" Asked Jack, as he had no idea were to start.
"Why are you asking me *sniff* that?" Answered the goddess, still trying to calm down from crying.
"What do you mean? Aren't you a goddess? Shouldn't you gods be all-knowing or something like that?" Jack was now starting to feel uneasy about this.
"I'm a goddess! You can't expect me to keep detailed information about every little part of this world! Especially this city that has nothing of interest to me!" Replied the goddess, causing Jack's right eye to twitch.
'Did I really get sent down here to kill a demon king only to not be given any clues on how to start? They also tossed this excuse of a goddess in for me to babysit!' Jack could feel his irritation rising, but he calmed himself down. Taking a deep breath, he continued. "You know what, forget it; we'll ask around here and go on from there."
So both of them (mainly Jack) went around asking for directions on how to get started in this city. It took only a short amount of time until Jack found someone who told them about the adventure's guild. Once getting directions, they began their trek to the guild.
(A few hours later)
"Ok, we're here; you can get off now." He shook Aqua, who was getting a piggyback ride from him. She got tired mid-way through when he was being a benevolent man to the people around him. He even got a few coins for his efforts. When she didn't respond, he shook her again but got no reaction. "Hey, didn't you hear me?"
"Mm five more minutes." With a sigh, Jack let go of her, and she fell onto the floor, inciting a yelp from her.
"Hey, what was that for!" Cried the goddess, to which Jack couldn't help but huff in irritation. Jack is usually a very patient man, but this 'goddess' has to be the worst view of gods he has ever gotten. He might have expected something grandeur, but instead, he's met a goddess who acts like a spoiled child whose parents never said no to.
"We're here." He said before entering the place first. Once inside, Jack was instantly exposed to the lively atmosphere of the place. People were either eating their food in peace, celebrating a successful mission, or simply having a nice drink of beer.
"Welcome!" Said a blond-haired waitress, instantly noticing their presence. "If you're here to eat, please take any seat that's available. If you need job guidance, head to the counter inside."
Jack smiled and thanked the waitress before heading to the counter. As Jack neared the counter, he saw another blond-haired woman. But the difference was her very exposed cleavage, which Jack wished was more covered. But being a gentleman, he didn't stare and made eye contact with her instead.
Leaning over the counter and flashing the woman a friendly smile, he spoke. "Hello, I have a question. Is this where you come to obtain jobs for..." What should Jack say? When he first said he could join to defeat the demon king to the people here, some laughed at him and said, 'Good luck.' Quickly coming up with a new reason, he continued, "Mercenaries?"
The lady behind the counter smiled, "Yes, do you have an adventurer's card?"
"A what?"
"I'll take that as a no. If you want, you can register as an adventurer right now. All I'll need is a registration fee. After that, this device here will do the rest of your registration." As she placed a hand on a strange contraption, Jack had never seen before.
"Alright, I got a few coin, how much?" Once paying the fee, both of them soon got a lecture on how the adventurer's card works, how it describes your occupation, the number of monsters you killed, your level, skills, etc.
"Alrighty then, just place your hand over the crystal, and it'll do the rest." The lady instructed as she finished informing them about their card.
"Like this?" Jack asked as he hovered his hand over the crystal ball, and instantly, as he did so, the ball began to work its magic. Jack had seen many marvels in Rapture, but with this contraction in front of him, he couldn't help but watch in fascination as it worked its magic on his card.
"Let's see here... Jack Wynand? Unusual name, but... WHAT!" Jack nearly jumped when the lady before him suddenly shouted in surprise. "Y-your stats are unusually high; all of them are! Your strength, endurance, agility, wisdom, intelligence, luck, all of them!" Jack was surprised to hear this, but not only that, he didn't like the attention he was getting from everyone as he noticed people beginning to surround him.
"Ma'am, could you please not say it all out loud." He silently begged.
"Huh? O-oh, I'm so sorry!" She apologized, bowing to him, which showed some of her cleavage. Which caused many male adventures to shamelessly gaze at them in lust.
"Ah, please don't do that, ma'am. It's ok, you were just surprised, is all." He immediately grabs her arm to make her stop bowing and casting a stern gaze at everyone who attempted to sneak a peak at her. The good thing is that some had the decency to look guilty. Key word: some.
The lady blushed as Jack grabbed her but quickly shook it off. "R-right, now for your classes; due to your high stats, you have a large variety of classes you can choose from. Even advanced classes such as archmage, paladin, and more." She showed him the options he could choose from until he saw something familiar.
SPLICER
His eyes widened when he noticed the familiar word. But he wasn't the only one to notice it.
"Huh, that's odd, I've never seen this class before." Gently patting the lady's arm, he asked for the card before selecting the splicer option. Immediately, Jack felt the changes. The Adam that has long since run dry has been filled again. His hands began to flicker with electricity, and his veins began to glow bright blue, gaining gasps from the spectating adventurers. Soon, fire appeared, his veins turning bright orange and his fingertips hot blue as fire danced on both hands. Then, it changed to a faint hue on his hands, and small particles floated around them. It changed again as his hands were covered in ice with spikes piercing out of his skin. Changing again, this time causing people to cry out in disgust, hornets began to crawl out from his skin, covering his arms in red pores and rashes. And finally, changing one last time, his hands were covered in a ghostly white shimmer.
With a deep chuckle, Jack spoke, "I'm back."
(An hour later)
Jack was sitting across from them as they were discussing their game plan. Right now, they have nothing regarding weapons except Jack's plasmids. But even then, his EVE is limited, even if it now passively regenerates.
"We can do an easy extermination mission. I heard the giant toads are the recommended ones for rookie adventurers."
"But why not the ones that pay more?" She whined, "Plus, that mission doesn't pay much; only five thousand Eris per toad killed. With all those abilities you've gotten and my advanced class, we can afford to do a tougher mission," Said Aqua confidently.
"Hey, that type of mindset will get you killed quickly?" Warned Jack, but her response was only a huff from her and a pout. 'This girl.' He thought angrily, his eye twitching in annoyance. "Look, do what you want, but I'm doing this with or without you. If you come with me and help with your powers, I'll ensure you get half the share. But if I go alone, I'm paying for my room and letting you sleep in the stables."
"Huh! You can't do that! We are a team; we're supposed to stick together!"
Again, his eye twitched, and he began to pull on her ear. "I swear you are like a spoiled child whose parents never said no to!"
"Ah, ow ow ow ow! I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'll help! Just please stop pulling my ear!" Jack didn't care that he was currently getting stared at, only that this girl learns some damn humility!
(Later)
Kill quest:
Kill 5 "giant toads" in 3 days.
"Jack, help! Please help! AHHHHHH!" She cried out to Aqua as she was running away from a toad. And Jack couldn't help but look on in disappointment.
"This is a goddess? What a fucking embarrassment." Jack is usually a very kind man. But this 'goddess' has pushed his limits on his kindness and his own views on her.
Earlier, Aqua tried to prove to Jack that she meant business by using her godly powers on the toads. At first, he was awed, genuinely believing she would show her might right then and there. Only to be instantly disappointed. With a sigh, Jack charged up his electro bolt and zapped the toad chasing her. Instantly, the toad seized up as electricity began to run all over its body.
Aqua, who was running, stopped to catch her breath. "About time! What took you so long!? If I didn't know better, it would seem like you're trying to get me killed!" She said in between breaths.
"I didn't want to shock you and get eaten." Argued Jack, to which Aqua only grumbled in agreement. "Now get out of there before it stops-" *Thoomb* Suddenly, the giant toad fell over Aqua dead. "... Huh, I guess it's weak to electricity." But he didn't have time to think more about it as Aqua's legs thrashed underneath the toad as she attempted to get herself out.
"Hold still, I'll get you out!" Said Jack, rushing to her side to get her out.
(Later)
"*Hic* It was horrible; it was all dark and slimy, and I couldn't move or breathe." Jack couldn't help but sigh as Aqua followed behind him, crying.
"Well, at least you didn't get eaten. That may have been a worse outcome than being crushed." Jack said, causing Aqua to shiver in fear.
"Ugh, I don't even want to think about that." She gagged in disgust.
They (mainly Jack) have managed to kill five toads and are returning to get paid for the job. Jack took out his adventurer's card to inspect it as they walked. He was pleased that he had gone up two levels and was now inspecting what skills he could upgrade or buy.

Jack was impressed by the haul of upgradable plasmids. But he was surprised by one of them, "antidote". In fact, he was surprised by a few of them being changed. But he did have to admit they were useful. So, scanning over them again, he chose the ones he thought would help.
Security command 2
Antidote 2
Hypnotize 2
Having one left over, he decided to unlock another slot for his plasmids. Satisfied, he continued walking with Aqua.
Kill quest complete!
"Thank you for your service!" Said the attendant, bowing to Jack before he went back to sit with Aqua and order some food for them. Once the food arrived, they ate in silence before Aqua spoke.
"Hey, I saw you checking your card earlier. What did you get?" She asked while having a mouth full of food.
"First, finish chewing before you speak. Secondly, I got some new slots for my plasmids and tonics and upgraded a few." He explained, but Aqua only had a confused expression on her.
"... What?" With a sigh, he just said that he had upgraded his existing skills, which she interpreted better. "Why didn't you say so? You didn't have to get all fancy pansy on me."
"Whatever, I'm turning in for the night. You remember our room, right?" Earlier, when Jack got his payment, he also asked if they had any rooms, to which they said yes. But he quickly found out how expensive they were. So he got a room for both of them to share that sadly had one bed.
"Yeah, But why couldn't you get two beds? *Gasp* You're trying to get your lecherous hands on me, aren't you? So you can fondle and grop-AHHH, OKAY, OKAY, I'M SORRY I DIDN'T MEAN IT!" Jack angrily pulled on her cheek as she began to sprout nonsense.
"Don't you dare say such things about me; you got it!" She nodded, tears forming in her eyes; letting go of her, Jack continued. "I've been nothing but kind to you, and yet you still keep pushing my patience. And I am a very patient man, Aqua. But you, you pompous, self-entitled, narcissistic, selfish piece of shit keeps breaking past that! And I am more than convinced you are a lost cause. No wonder the gods decided to punish you and send you with me. In fact, I'm more inclined to believe you don't deserve to be one." He said cruelly to her, but Jack knew she needed to hear this or else she wouldn't change. And even if she doesn't, she'll just prove him right, and he'll just leave her.
Aqua stared at Jack with wide eyes as tears began to spill out of her eyes. She made a few whimpering sounds before standing up and storming out of the place.
(Aqua)
Aqua needed to find out how long she was running for. She only knows that she traveled far enough to cry alone underneath a tree on some random hill.
"That stupid Jack, what makes him *hic* think he could talk to me like that? I'm a goddess." One that insulted him and his family. Aqua continued to cry underneath the tree until her tears ran dry. After that, she continued to sit there in silence, thinking about what Jack had said.
And the more she thought about it, the more she felt she may have deserved it. 'I did accuse Jack of being a creep suddenly; any man would taken that badly. But he didn't have to go that far.' Wiping the remnants of her tears, she looked at the sky. "I wanna go home," she said pitifully. "Please, just take me home, I'll be good." She begged to whatever higher god was listening. But no one answered.
"There you are." Said a familiar voice, suddenly causing her to jump. Turning her head, she saw Jack climbing the hill to where she was. "I was worried something bad happened. Don't you know what time it is?"
"What do you care? Didn't you say I was some narcissistic, selfish piece of shit?" She huffed angrily.
"Yes, I did say that. And I may have been too harsh on you." With a sigh, Jack went up closer, "May I sit?"
Looking up at him suspiciously, she nodded and scooted over for him to sit. Sitting down, Jack stayed quiet for a bit before speaking again. "Look, what you have done has yet to make good first impressions on me. You first insulted my daughters; next, you tried to send me down here without giving me another option and tried to blindside me. And because of that, you got punished by your fellow gods." Pausing, he let those words sink in for a bit before he continued, "When we got down here, you began whining and crying, hell I was kind enough to give you a piggyback ride. But even then, despite all that, you tried to accuse me of trying to assault you. I couldn't have been more insulted."
Every time Jack listed every bad thing Aqua did, she couldn't help but wince.
"Look, we're stuck together, whether you like it or not, and I do want to get along with you, Aqua. But the way you are, I can't get along with you. And I really want to get along with you, Aqua. But you have to remember, despite being a goddess, you were sent down here as a punishment. Who knows, even if I do defeat the demon lord, you may not be let back in if you don't change." Hearing that scared Aqua. What if she didn't change? What if they decided to punish her more and remove her divinity?
"NO!" Suddenly, Aqua yelled out, startling Jack a bit. "I will change! I will go back to my realm!" She said fiercely, determination burning in her eyes.
"Well then," standing up, Jack extended his arm to her to accept. "Let your actions prove it." With a determined look, Aqua accepted his hand.
(Elsewhere)
In their shared empty room, a normal table was sitting there. Nothing was unusual until a grey static tear formed around the table. Rather than there being a table now, it was a table full of Jack's old weapons. Soon, the tear manifested, and the weapons appeared, waiting for their rightful owner to take them back.
