Tales as Old as Time.

How does OverMaster pick which characters to spotlight next? asked absolutely no one ever.

In this instance, I was going to write Mr. Freeze at first. But then I realized I had just written too many Archers who use guns. I wanted a bowman, but I couldn't find one I could write a half decent bio for at this time. So I went for another character who throws things around, in this case boomerangs. I haven't written a boomerang throwing Servant yet!

Why was I going to write Mr. Freeze and not Captain Cold, when I'm writing about another Flash Rogue right now anyway? Well, imho Freeze makes for a 'better' Servant than Cold. Cold may be a better overall character imho, but Freeze has a more striking visual design, more poignant lines, and he feels more like the sort of tragic misguided soul most famous Heroic Spirits in the Fate franchise are.

But now, since I'm writing a DC Archer here, it'll have to be a while since I write another DC Archer. So Freeze will have to wait. Sorry, Victor.

Generally, I try writing seven Servants from each of the main classes and one from an extra class, and then it starts all over again. I also try not to have, say, more than one DC character and one Marvel character in the same batch, and whenever possible I try putting four males and four females in each batch of eight. I also try putting at least one already existing Fate character per batch, with the gimmick of those profiles being written in third person, or as wanted files, or as interviews, and so on.

So here it is. Captain Boomerang.

Yay... (I can hear you yawning. Sorry).

Archer.

True Name: George Harkness.

Other Names and Aliases: Captain Boomerang, Digger Harkness, Boomerbutt, Boomer, Mirror Master (briefly posed as him to fool the Suicide Squad).

Alternate Classes: Assassin.

Alignment: Chaotic Evil.

Attribute: Human.

Gender: Male.

Natural Enemy: The Flash, Amanda Waller.

Parameters:

Strenght: D

Endurance: C

Agility: B

Magic/Mana: E

Luck: A

Noble Phantasm: A

Likes: "Women, liquor and money. What can I say? I'm a man of simple tastes. Is that so wrong? Should I lie to you, or what?"

Dislikes: "Some bastard started those rumors about me liking pink ponies. So I now hate those bloody things."

First Ascension: Boomerang standing with a boomerang in his hand, wearing his quote tacky Silver Age outfit, a blue uniform with small white boomerangs sewn on it, and a small white hat. His actual boomerangs are tucked on his belt.

Second Ascension: Boomerang in the same pose, but wearing his more sensible Suicide Squad uniform, with a bandolier of boomerangs and longocoat.

Third Ascension: Still the same pose, but Boomerang has bulked up, slightly burlier and more robust. His clothes are more informal and ragged, as if he'd let himself down, and the hat is replaced by a wool cap.

Final Ascension: A closeup of a boomerang being flung at the camera while a smirking Boomerang, in his Second Ascension uniform, is tossing it in the background.

Biography:

The illegitimate son of an American businessman and an Australian woman.

His adoptive father hated and mistreated him. Archer blames his criminal tendencies on this, but in truth he had sociopathic leanings from a very young age.

As a young man, he had become a mildly famous performance artist of boomerang throwing, and he caught the attention of the Wiggins toy company. They wanted a spokesman for their new line of boomerangs, and gave Harkness the original Captain Boomerang costume, and his nom du guerre. Harkness hated this job, and soon he turned his attention to the cheap thrills of pickpocketing. During one of those petty crimes, he ran afoul of Barry Allen, the costumed superhero known as the Flash, and managed to knock him out with a lucky throw to his head.

Captain Boomerang embarked into a life of crime, but Flash, already wise to his tricks, stopped him during a bank robbery. They clashed several times, and Boomerang joined the Flash villain team known as the Rogues, headed by Leonard Snart, aka Captain Cold (also summonable as an Archer). Cold and the other Rogues tolerated him but despised him because of his cowardice and annoying attitude.

Eventually, Harkness was recruited forcefully by Amanda Waller (also summonable as a Ruler) for the secret strikeforce of the US government, Task Force X, better known as the Suicide Squad.

Harkness performed several missions with the Squad, a job he detested. Every so often he would somehow escape them and pull off 'jobs' with the Rogues or as an independent mercenary; one of said jobs was killing the father of Tim Drake, the Batman's third Robin. Jack Drake shot Harkness with a handgun just as Harkness flung a boomerang into Drake's heart, killing each other. Boomerang was much later revived as a 'Black Lantern' zombie by Nekron, but revived after Nekron was defeated by Earth's superheroes.

He likes to act in an over the top, all too stereotypical 'Aussie' way to get on other's nerves. This has caused to even other Australians despise him, pretending he is just an American passing himself off as one of them.

Class Skills:

Independent Action: A

It is possible to take action even without a Master. However, to use Noble Phantasms of great magical energy consumption, backup from the Master is necessary. At Rank A, it is possible for a Servant to stay in the world for about a week without a Master.

Often, Captain Boomerang would abandon the Suicide Squad or simply flee in terror from their enemies despite the threat of Amanda Waller's nanite explosives injected on his neck. He also would sometimes turn on the Rogues and leave them behind to pursue his own crime sprees. He is used to act on his own and even prefers it that way.

Magic Resistance: D

The resistance to spells achieved by the Servant, at best, amounts to that provided by a good amulet.

He was part of a team effort to defeat the arcane evil of the Enchantress. That pulls his rank up from E. Under stress in a fight his Luck can further rise the rank occassionally.

Personal Skills:

Kavorka Man: B

Despite being uncouth, crass, and generally a louse, the Servant has remarkable success seducing women. He could even be considered a charmer on human women. But most female Servants with high amounts of intelligence or Eye of the Mind will find him repulsive.

Mana Burst (Throwing): A+

Thanks to a deal with the demon Neron and some cybernetic gloves he stole, he has the ability to increase his throwing and reaction speed as if he were tapping on the Speed Force. He can defend himself just fine by blocking incoming attacks with his boomerangs, but this does not necessarily translate into an increased speed on his feet.

Boomerang Mastery: A++

The aptitude needed to handle the ancient Australian tossing weapon, first designed by the aborigins.

As a Servant, Archer has an arsenal of boomerangs only limited by the mana provided by his Master; these boomerangs can be blunt, sharp or even explosive, electrical or incendiary. They travel at incredible speeds, and they are able to even tag the Flash, which in terms of fighting Servants translates into them being able to hit Servants with an Agility of even up to A++, and occasionally EX if Archer has passed a Luck roll (his own Luck makes this possible more often than his foes would believe, and that makes them understimate him).

Additionally, since the boomerangs always return to Archer's hand unless they are meant to explode after hitting his targets or they are otherwise destroyed by them, they can be reused several times until they are broken or pulverized, with no need to expend mana on new ones.

Disengage: A

The Servant is a coward, and he'll flee readily in the face of overwhelming forces. But when he's backed against the wall he will fight with teeth and claws for his survival.

His retreat foot speed is much higher than that he uses to attack.

Noble Phantasm:

Space Boomerang Trap- Digger Harkness' Greatest Triumph: A

Anti-Unit.

A recreation of the time Captain Boomerang came closest to killing the Flash, strapping him to a giant boomerang and throwing him into outer space. This was a betrayal after Boomerang and Flash had worked together to halt an alien invasion.

The enemy finds themselves pulled towards a giant boomerang Archer brings forth, and unless they struggle free with power surpassing that of the Noble Phantasm they will be chained onto it and promptly propelled past Earth's atmosphere.

In terms of gameplay, this is seen as a closeup of Archer's smiling face, and then it pans over to show the enemy tied to the boomerang right before it shoots up and above the planet, disappearing into the Solar System in a blink.

Start of Battle:

"Oi, mate. Good morning."

"You can throw me away, but I return!"

"What if we go for some beers instead? No? Ah, bugger!"

"Gonna give you a chance to run away since I'm that nice."

Attack:

"In your ugly mug! Now even uglier!"

"Laugh at me now!"

"Try picking your teeth off the floor!"

"Tagged!"

"Slowpoke!"

Damage:

"What the!?"

"I'm gonna kill you!"

"Gotta get away!"

"Why you freak!"

"No, no, no, stop!"

Damage by Noble Phantasm: "This was a suicide!"

Victory:

"A round of beers for everyone! Never say I never did anything for you mates!"

"Now bugger off!"

"You still here? Go away! You eyesore!"

"The Flash can't stop me, and you thought you could?"

"Crikey! That was a close shave, mates!"

Defeat:

"Should've bailed while I had the chance!"

"Oh crap! The dingo just ate the baby!"

"Do the Harry, kid! You still can make it!"

"You wankers, you'll pay for that!"

Summon: "G'day, mate! You just summoned Captain Boomerang, the Flash's archenemy! We've got this on the bag, lucky bogan! They'll never know what hit 'em!"

Noble Phantasm Activation:

"Normally I only send the ladies into orbit, but I'll make an exception for you. You snoozed! Now you're caught in my Space Boomerang Trap! Tell 'em Digger Harkness sent you!"

Extra Dialogue:

"That... That's the Reverse Flash! What have you done, why did you bring that insane wanker here!? He'll kill us all!" (When you have Assassin Reverse Flash Professor Zoom).

"I can't work with this. I can't work with this! The Joker, for real!? The bloody Joker!? What kind of benefit did you think there could come from summoning him, you idiot!?" (When you have Archer, Caster, Assassin or Berserker Joker).

"(Gulp) H-Hey, Boss Lady... Nice to see you again... Business as usual, right? (Crap, even here I can't escape this land whale)." (When you have Ruler Amanda Waller).

"So that cutie is also from the homeland? Heh heh, looking forward to rooming with her. What? I can't? Bummer! But we're the sole Aussies in this joint, we gotta stay together, right!" (When you have Foreigner Wandjina).

Birthday: "Happy birthday! I'll show you a real way to liven up a day! Let me tell you, the boys back at Central never complained about the parties I threw for 'em!"

Event: "What's the John Dory? Why are all those blokes there? Hey, it looks fun!"

Holy Grail: "'Wishing for unlimited wishes is the way to go! Eh? Whaddya mean others already thought of it? It can't? I thought that stinking thing could do anything!"

Next: Well, the next one should be a Saber, so he should have more dignity than... What? Konosuba? Oh dear.
