Chapter 2
Mew meets a Swordsman
Mew was hovering beside Luffy, holding a head of lettuce the size of Mew's head between it's paws. Luffy was talking excitedly to Coby about meeting the Pirate Hunter Zoro, while Mew took small bites out of the lettuce. The green leaves occasionally crunching since the lettuce was still partially frozen from Mew using Ice Beam to cool the vegetable.
Luffy and Coby had been shocked when Mew used Ice Beam, not that Mew understood why a simple move like that was so surprising to the pair. After that revelation Luffy had lifted Mew up, swinging the tiny Pokemon around and around as he laughed. Mew soon joining in with it's own high pitched laughter. Since then things had settled down, allowing Mew the chance to eat it's meal.
"Look there's the island-" Coby started to say before Mew stopped listening. Mew's full attention and sparkling eyes fixed on the tower that rose high above the rest of the island. Landing on Luffy's shoulder Mew began vibrating with excitement.
"I know Mew. After we recruit Zoro let's head to the top of the tower, okay?"
"Mew!"
"Luffy how can you understand what it's saying?"
"Dunno, I just can! Shihihihihi!"
After that It didn't take long for them to reach the island. Luffy leading the way into the city with Coby following after him. Mew draped over Luffy's shoulder, front paws holding onto his vest while it's feet were pressed against his back. Mew's tail carelessly tossed over the opposite shoulder. Other then resting on the HAT or the PINK hair, this spot was rapidly becoming one of Mew's favorite resting places.
Mew found the reactions of the citizens to Zoro's name to be amusing. The reactions they had to Morgan's name far less so. If the people so feared this Morgan then he shouldn't be in charge. Privately Mew placed removing Morgan on its list. After visiting the top of the tower, and seeing this Zoro fellow of course. One needed to have their priorities in order of course.
The Marine base was a sprawling place with several large towers that reached into the sky, along with a wall surrounding the courtyard. Mew had to lean it's head really far back in order to still see the top of the towers. As Coby stumbled through trying to say his goodbyes, Luffy scaled the nearby wall, trying to see if he could get a glimpse of Zoro. Heads popping up over the wall, Luffy and Mew scanned the courtyard for this Zoro fellow.
Coby tried to talk Luffy out of freeing Zoro even as Mew studied the man. Zoro had mossy green hair, lean muscles, and despite weeks of starvation surprisingly fit. Mew would put it at even odds of Zoro beating a Machoke in a contest of strength.
Zoro, his attention drawn by the noise that Luffy and Coby's arguement was making, shouted that the pair of them were eyesores and to get lost. The swordsman hesitating a bit when he spotted Mew staring at him. Who knows how long the staring contest between the two would have lasted if they hadn't gotten distracted by a ladder thumping against the wall beside Luffy and Coby.
A little girl climbed up the ladder, gesturing for them to be quiet before she dropped into the yard and approached Zoro. The girl offering riceballs that she had made to Zoro, making Mew's eyes sparkle. What a sweet girl!
Despite Zoro's protests and the angry words that he said to the girl, Mew could tell that secretly Zoro was touched by the gesture. Then a blonde haired man in a purple suit strode into the courtyard, snatching one of the rice balls from the girl's hand. Insulting Zoro for being mean to a little girl as he was doing so. Like the blonde idiot had room to talk, he had just ruined a touching moment after all.
The snobby blonde took a bite out of the rice ball, his face screwing up in disgust at the taste before he spat it out. Mew practically fell off of Luffy's shoulder with laughter as the girl admitted that she had used sugar instead of salt. The laughter turning into a soft growl when the blonde knocked the other rice balls to the ground before stomping on them.
If the prior actions hadn't cemented Mew's dislike for the man what he did next would have. The snob held up a poster that proclaimed that anyone helping a criminal would be executed as well. The final insult was when the man ordered the soldiers with him to throw the girl over the wall. Even though they were clearly reluctant to do so they picked up the little girl and tossed her over the wall.
A pink glow surrounding her as Luffy stretched out to catch her. The girl guided slowly to the ground by Mew's use of Psychic. The girl thanking Mew and Luffy for the rescue before hurrying away. Barely even giving Mew a second glance despite how odd Mew must have looked.
Luffy eagerly jumped into the courtyard to talk to Zoro. Mew pushing off of Luffy to spiral through the airas he talked to Zoro. Zoro, only slightly distracted by Mew's flying, telling Luffy quite clearly that he wasn't going to join him, and that Zoro only had to hold out for a few more days until he'd be freed. He could survive not eating for a few more days. Luffy saying that if it was him he wouldn't have lasted half as long.
Upon hearing this Mew flew in close, stopping to hover in front of Zoro who was now eyeing Mew warily. Reaching behind it's back Mew pulled a bottle of milk from somewhere It then held the bottle out in offering to Zoro, bumping the bottles lip against Zoro's closed mouth.
"Whoa! Mew that's so cool! You can summon milk out of thin air!"
"Great, lovely. Now get it to stop trying to make me drink the milk!" Zoro shouted at Luffy, twisting his head up, down, and side to side to avoid the bottle. Mew chasing Zoro's mouth around like it was trying to feed a reluctant baby.
"Only if you say your going to join my crew!"
"Nev-glub!" As Zoro opened his mouth to protest Luffy's statement, Mew took the opportunity to shove the head of the bottle into his mouth. Tilting it upwards as it forced Zoro to swallow the milk. A faint glow enveloped Zoro, a couple of sparkles drifting off of him, as the milk instantly seemed to reverse the effects of starvation.
Pulling away Mew bobbed it's head in a quick nod. Please by it's work Mew shot up into the sky, doing loop de loops through the air. As Mew was performing the loops something PINK flashed in the corner of it's vision. The Pokemon giving up on the loops to spin around and around, chasing the elusive PINK thing that remained tantalizingly out of reach.
Finally, finally, Mew twisted around fast enough to latch it's front paws onto the PINK thing. Little mouth opening wide before it chomped down, right onto it's own tail. Mew purring at the results of a successful hunt. Then Mew looked down as a pair of long stretchy arms shot past it to grab onto the roof of the tower. Mew vanishing with a pop as it Teleported onto Luffy's shoulder.
"Gomu Gomu No Rocket!"
Mew and Luffy zipped through the air as they were launched straight upward. The pair speeding past the top of the tower, now able to see a bunch of Marines trying to lift a huge statue up with ropes. Arms stretching out once more Luffy used the statue to correct their course and successfully land ontop of the tower. As soon as they landed Mew shot back into the air. Spinning around as it surveyed everything, totally oblivious to the commotion below it. Including the fact that the giant statue was crashing to the ground far below it.
"Ignore the pink thing and catch that pirate! He destroyed my statue!" Glancing down Mew observed a man with an iron jaw and an axe replacing one hand gesturing to the stunned soldiers. Trying to direct them as a dark aura swelled up from inside of him. Mew frowned and started to float closer when the man turned away. Vanishing down the stairs in search of Luffy, the soldiers running to catch up.
Mew darted down after them, flying as fast as it could in an attempt to catch the man with the strange aura. However with all the twists and turns, Mew quickly lost track of everyone. Following this discovery, was the revelation that Mew was hopelessly lost. Never one to panic Mew was about to Teleport back to Luffy when something in the room it had just passed drew it's attention.
Reversing it's course Mew floated back to the room, a brief use of Psychic pushing the door open enough that Mew could get through. Inside the room and what had caught Mew's interest in the first was was a row of snails. Each one having what looked like a speaker attached to them. The snails emotionlessly studying Mew as it did the same to them.
Mew stared and the snails stared.
Mew stared some more, tail twitching. The snails stared back, one chewing on a piece of leafy greens that it had snagged from a nearby plate.
Mew drew closer before smacking the reciever off of the snail that had been eating. The brass object clattering onto the desk before falling off the edge. Mew paid it no attention, entranced as it was by the buttons that the receiver had been covering. Paws darting out to smack against the buttons at random. Mew trilling along to the sounds that they were making.
A loud ringing noise suddenly split the air, Mew shooting up to hover by the ceiling. The noise happened again just as loud as the first time, Mew realizing that the sound had come from the snail. As the third ring rang out Mew glided down to hover in front of the snail once more. Head tilted curiously to the side as it poked the snail, wondering why it was making that sound.
Before the snail rang for a fourth time there was a click. The snail suddenly adopting a severe expression along with a mustach, a long braided goatee, and an afro. "What?" The snail asked in a deep voice laced with irritation.
"Mew? Mew, mew, mew, mew!" Mew shouted as it flew rapidly around the room, stopping only to hover in front of the snail again.
"Who the hell is this?!" The voice roared, snail flashing gold as it swelled slightly in size.
"Mew!" Was the informative response followed by a faint popping sound as Mew Teleported away to safety.
Meanwhile in Marineford, Sengoku stared at the Den Den Mushi on his desk. Mind going over the strangest snail call of his life, one in which he hadn't actually understood a word. Hanging up the receiver Sengoku turned to the other person in the room when he had recived the call. Monkey D Garp, who looked just as confused by the whole thing as he did.
"Garp. I want you to head to Shells Town and the 153rd branch base. Find out every scrap of information you can about who made that call. I don't want a single stone left unturned."
Mew unaware of the chaos that it had caused appeared on Luffy's shoulder with a soft pop. Startling everyone except Luffy and Coby, much to Luffy's amusement.
"There you are Mew! Look I got Zoro to join us, and took down this guy with an axe for a hand!" Luffy's excited chatter rolled over Mew as the Pokemon fixed its gaze on the unconscious Morgan, studying the man's foul aura. Most was of the man's own making, he had let power corrupt him, buried deep though were lingering traces of hypnotism.
The faint sound of a bell ringing was completely drowned out by the chatter of the humans. Not a single one noticing Mew's eyes flash as it used Heal Bell to break the hypnotism's effects. Memories long locked away in Morgan's head now free to be recalled. Mew's self-appointed task complete the pokemon joined in with the celebration with a happy trill.
After a wonderful meal in town it was finally time for to head out. Luffy, Zoro, and Mew boarding the small boat before it was pushed off from the dock. Luffy and Mew waving goodbye to Coby and the Marines standing at the docks. Coby waving back while the Marines saluted behind him. The small boat sailing directly towards the setting sun and the next big adventure!
