Chapter 3
Mew joins the circus!
Mew was stretched out contentedly on the bench of the small vessel, tail hanging over the edge into the water like a Slowpoke's. Mew didn't expect to catch anything, certainly not a Shellder, but one never knew if one didn't try. Mew's ears flicking in Luffy's direction as the young man groaned.
"I'm starving! Oh, look there's a bird, I'm gonna grab it!" As Luffy's arms stretched out to grab onto the mast and launch him towards the bird, Mew rolled over to look up onto the sky. Eyes narrowing at the bird, a very big bird, a very big bird that now had Luffy's head trapped in it's beak.
Mew stared dumbfounded up at the bird that was flying away with it's human companion. Hardly aware of Zoro's cursing and frantic rowing in his attempt to catch up to Luffy and the bird. Mew couldn't believe it's eyes, Pokemon existed in this world as well! Well at least Fearows did, and they were still assholes even in this world. Luffy and the Fearow were almost out of sight before Mew reached the decision that it should go get Luffy back.
Sitting up Mew's eyes flashed as it Teleported, appearing directly in the Fearow's path. The bird letting out a strangled squawk of alarm around Luffy's head as it banked to the side to avoid Mew. Mew was ready for it however, a large sphere of rock forming out of the air between Mew's paws. A rock that it then chucked straight at the Fearow in a perfect text book example of a Rock Throw. The rock beaning the bird right between it's eyes, hard enough that it let go of it's prize. Luffy plummeting to the ground far below, throwing up a dust cloud on impact with the earth.
The bird tilted itself downwards, descending into a steep dive, not to catch Luffy, but to gain enough speed to try and avoid Mew. Today however wasn't proving to be the bird's day, as an instant later a cannonball hit it square on before exploding. Spinning around towards the direction that the cannonball had come from, Mew spotted a large red circus tent on the wharf of a small town. A bunch of people milling around the tent and the cannon, that was still smoking from having been fired.
An excited squeak escaped from Mew, just before it zoomed out of the sky towards the crowd. Stopping to hover just out of reach of the pirates that were staring in slack-jawed confusion at Mew. Before anyone could say anything though a blue haired clown with a bright red nose stepped out of the shadows of the circus tent.
"What in the flashy hell are you?" Buggy the clown asked, unaware that he had just drawn the attention of a creature that would recognize him. One that was also already hyperactive from finding a circus.
"Mew! Mew, mew, mew, mew, meeeeew!" Was the excited response from the pink Pokemon. Mew spinning in circles around the baffled Buggy as he continued to turn to try and keep Mew in his line of sight. Mew pausing only once to briefly mirror Buggy's pose before it returned to its spinning.
"What is it boss?"
"Can't you hear idiot, it's clearly a cat. You can hear it mewing."
"I've never heard of a cat that's pink and can fly."
"Will you idiots shut up, I'm thinking!" Buggy roared at the trio of pirates that had been discussing what the pink flying creature was. The three snapping their mouths closed before miming zipping them up. In that moment of distraction Mew darted forward, paw honking Buggy's bright red nose. The pirates that had been standing about freezing in place as Buggy's face turned as red as his nose.
"Big mistake." Buggy growled through gritted teeth, even as he reached for one of the many knives concealed in his cloak. Just as his fingers wrapped around the hilt there was a sudden bright flash of light from Mew, forcing everyone to shield their eyes until it faded, revealing that Mew was gone. Standing in it's place was a perfect copy of Buggy himself, face red with anger and perfectly mirroring his movements. The assembled crew gasping in shock at what they were seeing.
Slowly Buggy raised one arm, the copy mirroring the action. Buggy tilted his head first one way then the other, the copy doing the same. Anything that Buggy did copied perfectly down to the smallest detail. Even down to pulling out a knife when Buggy did, tossing it from hand to hand in sync with Buggy.
Buggy smirked as an idea came to him, ignoring the copy smirking as well, he just had to do something that this creature couldn't copy. Reaching up with both hands Buggy pressed the knife against his neck as he grabbed a fistful of hair. In a single smooth movement he sliced his head clean off, the hand not holding the knife yanking his head up at the same time. "Copy that you..Flashy Fuck!"
Buggy's howl of alarm almost drowned out by the screams of his men. Not only had the copy mirrored the action but it was now juggling it's head along with the knife. Up the head went, landing with a plop back on the copy's neck, the knife snatched out of the air, vanishing into the copy's cloak. Stepping back the copy broke into a jig, feet stomping as it separated into dozens of pieces, each piece ricocheting off of the stunned watchers. Returning to the copy, and reforming it, after several bounces.
A brilliant light flared from the copy, forcing people to shield their eyes once again. As it cleared enough for people to see again, they found Mew hovering before them. Paw's pressed against it's mouth as the Pokemon giggled. Flying up into the sky Mew set off in a random direction to check on how Luffy was doing, leaving a flabbergasted group of pirates behind. If Mew had stayed for just a couple of minutes longer however it would have found Luffy tied up by the red-head, being led straight to the still stunned Buggy and crew.
Mew did a circuit above the town, keeping a sharp eye out for Luffy, alternatively something shiny or interesting. The only real thing of interest that it could find however was a small white dog guarding a pet shop. At least it was the only thing of interest until part of the town behind Mew up and vanished in an enormous explosion. The shockwave from the blast sending an unprepared Mew tumbling end over end across the sky, until it was able to finally regain control over itself.
Looking back in the direction that the explosion had came from, Mew could see a line of smoke and dust that extended outwards into the town from the very circus tent that Mew had just so recently been at! Which almost certainly meant that Luffy was over there as well. Chirping with annoyance Mew started to fly back towards the tent, when the tiny Mew, that pulled the levers in Mew's brain labeled Chaos and ADHD respectively, flipped them both into the off position. Mew recalling that it had a faster and much easier way of getting to Luffy.
The pink Pokemon vanishing with a soft pop as it Teleported to it's companions side. Reappearing on Luffy's shoulder, who Mew discovered was tied up inside of a cage. The red-headed girl from earlier arguing with Buggy, at least that was what had been happening before Mew appeared. Now everyone, except Luffy who was smiling and happily welcoming Mew back, was staring at Mew, most with expressions of horror or concern on their faces.
"Hey, straw hat brat." Buggy started to ask slowly, his voice laced with fear. "This flashy pink cat thing doesn't happen to be with you does it?" When you were a pirate that had survived for some time on the Grand Line, you quickly got used to weird things happening and just started to roll with it. The current day's events however already proving to be stranger then anything else he had ever witnessed.
"Yep! It's name is Mew and it's my ships mascot!" Mew chirped in agreement to the proclamation and confirmation of what it was on the crew. Luffy and Mew somehow failing to notice as several of the surrounding pirates keeled over backwards in sheer terror. Buggy himself alternating between grinding his teeth together and looking like he wanted nothing more than to wring Luffy's neck.
"I'm not even in the Grand Line right now, yet still it's madness follows me. I blame Shank's for this, because somehow I just know that this is partially his fault." Buggy muttered to himself, quietly enough that no one else could hear it.
"Brat, who did you get that straw hat from?" He asked Luffy, in the slim hope that it wasn't who he thought it was.
"This? I got it from Shank's when he visited my village." Luffy's cheery reply causing several more pirates to keel over. Even as whispers about one of the four emperor's, and red haired Shank's circulated through the crowd.
"I knew it. I just knew it was gonna be him." Buggy sobbed to himself, both hands pressed against his face.
It was to this scene that Zoro, and the three pirates of Buggy's crew that he had captured, walked in on, much to their confusion. Launching itself off of Luffy's shoulder, Mew squeezed through the bars of the cage before flying over to where Buggy was standing. Reaching behind it's back Mew pulled out a bottle of rum, setting it down before the man.
"Mew, mew, mew!" Mew proudly proclaimed. Removing his hands from his face Buggy looked down at the bottle, then over to Mew, back to the bottle, then back to Mew, finally looking at Luffy as if hoping that he could understand what Mew was saying.
"Uhuh, uhuh." Luffy responded as if he understood every word and was holding a thrilling conversation with Mew. "Mew says that instead of fighting we should have a really big party and get drunk."
Once again Luffy paused, head tilted to the side as Mew repeated it's name several more times. "Mew also says if you don't agree it will do something dangerous."
"Oh yeah? Dangerous like what?" One of the Buggy Pirates that had been picked up by Zoro shouted, missing the frantic shaking of heads from his crewmates that had seen Mew in action earlier.
"Watch and see for yourselves." Luffy replied, Mew flying over to the edge of the wharf, facing outwards towards the sea, then it opened it's mouth. White particles of energy appearing out of the air, gathering inside Mew's mouth. The energy making a low-pitched hum that grew steadily louder and more high-pitched as the energy continued to gather. Opening it's mouth wider and thrusting it's head forward Mew fired off a massive Hyper Beam. The beam of energy causing a section of ocean twice as long as that caused by the Buggy Ball's explosion, and just as wide, to cease to exist. Water rushing in to fill the newly created gap with a roar of sound.
Mew swiveling about to face everyone before blowing out a smoke ring and smiling innocently.
"So, party?" Luffy asked, his voice just as innocent as Mew's smile.
"Party." Buggy confirmed once he had picked his jaw off the floor. A sinking feeling in his gut whispering that maybe he and his crew were better off heading to the Grand Line. Because at least the madness there he could predict.
