Chapter 1 Percy
Percy woke up and gazed out his bedroom window trying to rid his mind of the painful nightmares that poisoned his mind. For while Percy loved New York, when he walked down the same streets where his friends were killed, where his family took their final stands… the memories were almost too much to bear. With Annabeth still asleep on his chest he carefully took Riptide out of his sweatshirt pocket and studied the craftsmanship of his magical sword. The way that the letters were engraved in Ancient Greek on the handle of the sword just gave Percy a boost of enthusiasm, thinking about the good memories he had with this sword in his hand. It stayed like that for a while (or at least what felt like a while, hard to tell with ADHD) before Annabeth started to stir with sobs building in her throat. Quickly she sat up searching the room for danger with her anxious eyes darting around the room, tears streaming down her face. As soon as she laid eyes on her boyfriend she practically collapsed into him.
"It'll be alright Annabeth, as long as we're together." Percy whispered into her ear as she was starting to calm down. While rocking her back and forth attempting to calm her down.
"Percy.. How are we even going to get through the school year like this? All broken beyond repair and all." Annabeth whispered into my chest though trying to lighten the mood. With her voice breaking in between the heart broken sobs that still pledged them each time they closed their eyes. Her gray eyes demanding answers none of them had any answers for.
Annabeth decided to spend senior year with her father in San Francisco. Due to wanting some distance from her mother after the whole "Happy birthday Annabeth watch while I disown you and then proceed to send you and that Sea Spawn of a boyfriend of yours to Tartuarus! Good luck!" For while deep down she still loved her mother, a betrayal like that would still take some time to heal. And with Percy still living in New York, let's just say that the couple felt as though they were screwed.
Although that would allow Annabeth to see some of her mortal friends from school, which she enjoyed spending time with for the first few months of the school year last year. She didn't know how she was going to cope without Percy, through the panic attacks and nightmares that refused to leave them alone. Thankfully after some help from Apollo, the panic attacks were able to be restrained to only during the night. Though even his godly powers could heal the demigods so much.
Percy just wished he would have been faster, stronger, been anything more than the Son of Poseidon that let them fall from the little ledge. Annabeth told him about how when she closes her eyes all she can see is losing him down there, either through death or pure abandonment. Percy can't sleep without seeing her face as he choked Misery in her own tears. It was painful to remember how afraid she was of not the goddess, but of him. He hated himself for ever making her afraid.
And as they looked at each other through tear blurred vision, it was clear that they were thinking of the same events. As well as the same question of how the Hades were they supposed to survive the school year apart?
Eventually they decided to get ready to face the day that inevitably lay ahead of them. The day that Annabeth would have to leave for California.
