Emma sat on the bench in the girl's locker room getting ready, she was thankful for the chance for one on one sessions but was still worried at the thought of not getting back to where she was. She finished changing into her gymnast clothes and headed to the gym where Principal Hatzilakos was waiting.
"Okay, why don't we start with some basic warm up stretches?" She said as Emma lifted her leg up, she was actually surprised how flexible she still was, it wasn't like she used to be but for how long Emma was off for, it was still impressive. As Emma continued the warm up, she noticed Hatzilakos's phone ring. Ms. Hatzilakos sighed wearily.
"Okay I'll be right back, continue the warm ups until I get back." She said annoyed as she left the gym. As Ms. Hatzilakos left, Emma continued the basic stretches, she lifted her leg up onto one of the balance beams, Emma thought back to when she started and how she struggled to do simple exercises.
"Wow look at you!" Emma heard someone say, interrupting her reminiscing. She groaned and immediately put her leg down to avoid giving Peter any ideas.
"What do you want?" Emma asked, annoyed.
"I'm looking for Hatzilakos." Peter said simply.
"Well she's clearly not here." Emma said, her annoyance growing.
"Yeah i can see that...so listen, tomorrow night, I'm having a party at my dads crib while he's out of town. In case you're interested. You can even bring that boyfriend of yours." Peter said, trying to sound playful.
"Yeah…. between school, gymnastics, and being a teen mom to twins, i don't exactly have alot of freetime right now." Emma stated flatly.
"Hey everyone needs a break, even teen moms." Peter responded. Emma sighed, annoyed at his lack of knowledge of her situation.
"Yeah, and who's going to look after the kids? You know, Manny really likes you for some reason, maybe you should invite her." Emma said.
Peter finally seemed to have given up and left, at least for now. Once he left, Emma went back to her stretches until Hatzilakos returned.
"Sorry there was yet another issue with the yearbook club, ready to get back to work?" Ms. Hatzilakos asked, Emma nodded.
With her guidance, Emma moved onto more advanced things over the course of a hour. "That was a good first session, you'll be back to where you were, just remember to take it slow and not overdo it." Ms. Hatzilakos said as they finished up. The phone rang yet again and Ms. Hatzilakos sighed as she said a quick goodbye and answered the phone as she left. Emma finished up in the gym and went to change before heading home.
As Emma arrived home, she found her mother with Jack and her own twins while Snake was busy in the kitchen.
"How'd the session go?" Her mom asked.
"Pretty good for the first session." Emma said, quickly filling her in. "How were they? Any problems?"
"They slept mostly. Got woken up by some annoying drag racers though. Spike said with some annoyance as she handed them over.
Emma carried them down to her room, she placed Madison in her crib while she held Aaron who had woken up. It was interesting how even so young they were already different, Madison was more relaxed and slept easier while Aaron was the fussy one.
"Hey, how's my baby boy?" She said to him as he cooed. After stressful days at school work and dealing with people like Peter, moments like this made the whole thing worthwhile. Emma tended to their needs and eventually she managed to get them both down, this gave her the chance to work on her homework.
Emma opened her laptop thinking back to Mrs Kwan's assignment, choose one event that shaped your life forever and if you would undo it if you could have the option. Emma thought back to that day of the shooting and what Rick did, as she did it was like her hands were on autopilot.
It was one year ago when the day that changed everything at Degrassi occured. Everyone remembers what happened to Jimmy and Sean and especially Rick, what very few people know is what happened to me before that. It happened after the prank with the paint and feathers, I tried to comfort him but instead he forced me into a bathroom stall. You can probably guess what happened next based on the fact I'm now a teen mom.
After that, I spent weeks in a traumatic daze. I started hanging out at the ravine with a bunch of people doing unspeakable things I never expected to be doing, I just wanted to not think about what happened and escape the nightmares, if only for a bit.
Then came the day I took the pregnancy test, a friend who had a similar but less horrific experience pushed me to get counselling and therapy for it all. While it did help with the trauma, it didn't fix the fact I was pregnant with two babies. I was treated differently by classmates and even some
teachers, they didn't say anything but i could tell from the looks they gave what they were all thinking.
Even a year later, I've been referred to as "the girl who had her babies" rather than remembered for anything else. While others were worrying about dating or school, I was worried about doctors appointments and just trying to get through and money. It was and still is hard, however despite it I'm sitting here next to their cribs as they sleep, and honestly even if I could undo everything Rick did to me, I don't think I could bring myself to do it to them.
I know what I'm in for with them, mom and grandma were also teen moms, but everytime i think about how miserable I was I think back to them and how they made everything worthwhile. Thinking about this even if i could i wouldn't undo what happened to me that day solely for them.
Emma looked back at what she had typed so far, she knew she'd have to stretch it out further for the essay but she was content with what she had so far as an outline.
Her phone began ringing which she quickly answered so it wouldn't wake the babies. "Emma! Peter just asked me to a party he's having tomorrow night!" Manny screamed without even giving her a chance to reply.
"Oh that's great." Emma said, trying to sound supportive.
"I'll keep you posted on how stuff goes."
Emma couldn't stand him but she knew Manny did like him for some reason and Manny had supported her so much the past year that Emma wanted to be there for her also. She figured it was best to just be quiet on the subject, what was the worst he could do?
Authors note: youre bot imagining i am back. It was a stressful and eventful summer but things have finally calmed down. Hoping to get back to more regular updates. As usual all comments are appreciated
