This was an idea that I just suddenly had today (well, yesterday, Saturday just turned into Sunday a few minutes ago in Arizona) about the possibility of a character who had been wronged taking a stand for himself as well as a general stand.

Draco Malfoy was very overprivileged. So much so that his father, Lucius, had literally bought Draco's way onto the Slytherin Quidditch Team by purchasing seven expensive Nimbus 2001 broomsticks and gifting them to the Slytherin Quidditch Team.

Lucius had offered Slytherin Quidditch Captain Marcus Flint seven Nimbus 2001 broomsticks in exchange for replacing Seeker Terence Higgs, who had caught the snitch in Slytherin's last two matches against Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff and helped Slytherin win the Quidditch Cup.

Flint had eagerly accepted the offer. He was sure these Nimbus 2001s would give Slytherin a huge advantage in their quest to retain the Quidditch Cup. And Malfoy certainly seemed like a good enough flier.

Alas, Flint's decision had not paid off.

In Slytherin's first match of the year against Gryffindor, Malfoy had failed to see and thus failed to catch the snitch despite it being right under his nose because he had been too busy taunting Harry to notice it.

Flint had given Malfoy a piece of his mind.

It was now the day after the match, and he now thought it was time to reverse his decision.

So, that morning, Flint approached Higgs, who was causally sitting in an armchair by the fire just relaxing on a Sunday morning.

"Hey, Higgs?" piped up Flint as he approached Terence.

"Yes, Flint?" replied Terence in a harsh voice.

"As I am sure you saw yesterday," said Flint firmly, "Draco Malfoy proved to be hot garbage in the role of Seeker. In the hope of retaining the Quidditch Cup, I want you to rejoin the team, replacing Draco Malfoy. We've still got a chance if we win our last two matches. Remember that last year, we lost our first match of the year against Slytherin and came back to win the Quidditch Cup by winning our final two matches against Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. That was mostly because of your two spectacular catches of the snitch. Your beating Chang and Diggory to those snitches is why we won that Quidditch Cup. Come back to the team and help us win it again."

"Fuck that," replied Terence bitterly, standing up and looking Flint face to face.

Flint looked shocked.

Terence continued, "You threw me away like wilted salad after what I did for the team last year because you let Malfoy buy his way on the team. I'm not letting you fish me out of the trash now. When I was on the team, I didn't have to buy my way in, I got in on pure talent. "

"Bring that talent back to us," pleaded Flint.

"Hell no!" exclaimed Terence, "You showed no appreciation for what I did for the team last year by tossing me aside like an empty Skittles bag the nanosecond you got paid to put Malfoy on the team. Independently of that or of the fact that it was Malfoy who was given my spot, it was flat out disrespectful to me to just give my spot on the team to someone else without a tryout. I will grudgingly admit that Malfoy is a good flier. Had a trial been held and he had beaten me fair and square, I could have accepted that, and I'd probably be willing to return now at your request. There's fair competition and there's selling a position, and you did the latter. You threw me away like wilted salad and I WON'T let you fish me out of the trash."

"Don't you care about Slytherin and our chances to keep the Quidditch Cup?" Flint asked Terence desperately.

"You and the team never valued me, so why should I care about you?" retorted Terence.

"House pride?" suggested Flint.

"I don't give a shit about housemates and former teammates who discarded me like I was a barbie doll they gotten sick of playing with," seethed Terence, "You deserve to remain stuck with Malfoy as your Seeker. You bought him, you keep him. I have no sympathy for a captain who treated me like hot garbage."

"I hope you will reconsider once you have calmed down," said Flint pleadingly.

"I won't," insisted Terrace, "And I hope Malfoy never catches another snitch while you are captain and that you lose all your remaining matches. Once you graduate, I might be willing to try out for the team again depending on who the new captain is. This year and next year, the team will have to make do without me and I hope they finish fourth both years."

"You are showing the maturity of a girl," Flint spat at Terence, "As a boy, you're supposed to behave more maturely than you are right now."

"Keep your sexist comments to yourself," spat Terence, "If you make another sexist comment, I'll have Tracey, Daphne, Astoria and Lily prank you."

"Can't you let bygones be bygones and rejoin the team?" demanded Flint.

"I could, but I won't," replied Terence, "Karma's a bitch! And there's something else as well."

"What's that, Higgs?" snarled Flint.

"Even when you have graduated, I will only try out for the team again under one circumstance," explained Terence.

"What might that be?" grilled Flint.

"If the new captain wants me to join the team, he will have to hold fair trails. And I don't just mean not letting money or gifts dictate things," insisted Terence, "The new captain will have to show proper fairness by allowing girls to try out for the team. The continuing history of sexism on the Slytherin Quidditch Team is literally disgusting."

"Boys are the superior gender, especially at Quidditch, that's just a fact," spat Flint.

"That's bullshit," retorted Terence, "How can we know if any girls are good enough to make the team when the captains never let them try out?"

"Back to present time," deflected Flint, "I'll pay you-"

"NO!" cried Terence, "You're not paying me anything to rejoin the team. You've made your choice and now you have to reap what you have sewn. I have no need to help out sexist sellouts!"

And with that, Terence glared at Flint before walking away towards the second year dorms.
