I hope you like the story, and that you tell me your opinions, through them I know if I'm on the right path.
Remember English is not my native language, I hope the translation is correct, check it, but sometimes I miss some incorrect personal pronouns for the phrase, sorry.
I reiterate, I do not own the characters of Friends I only rely on them for the pure pleasure of writing stories without any economic interest, and Monica and Chandler they inspire me.
Chapter 3
Nina and Monica were feeling great. Nina walked around the house, she just hadn't gotten used to going down the living room step yet, but she was clever, she would sit on the edge, lower her little legs and get up on the floor below.
Nina wanted to touch everything, so Monica had to take some decorations off the coffee tables while trying to teach her about the ones that were left and that weren't to be touched, although Nina insisted by reaching her little hand towards the object while looking at Monica with a smile. Clearly she was going to be naughty.
The week after arriving home Monica decided to take Nina to Dr. Gettleman, who had been her and Ross's pediatrician, she trusted him and it was necessary for Nina to have the corresponding medical checks.
Dr. Gettleman examined Nina, he found her healthy and with weight and height appropriate for her age, although she seemed like she would be a tall girl in stature. She also checked the vaccination records, and told Monica to bring her back when she turned two for a check-up and to continue with the vaccinations.
The weeks passed, Monica was happy with the little girl, although the apartment was no longer a model of perfection with toys everywhere, the marks of little hands with candy on the chairs.
Finally Thanksgiving came, everyone came to dinner, even grandparents Judy and Jack who had fallen in love with Nina the moment they met her, evidently the girl would have a very seductive personality.
Then Christmas holidays came, Monica's tree was filled with gifts for Nina, toys, beautiful dresses, shoes, Nina looked at everything in amazement.
Monica is so happy, it was the first holidays she shared with her little girl
Nina was born on February 20, meaning she would soon be 2 years old. By then she talked a lot, she knew the names of all her uncles, her cousin Ben, her grandparents Judy and Jack.
On her birthday, there were balloons, signs, a cake with candles that everyone helped her blow out, and lots of presents. Nina was happy.
The following week, Monica took her to Dr. Gettleman's office, who examined Nina and gave her the corresponding vaccines.
Then he explained to Monica that he was leaving, it was time to rest, but that his office would be run by a young pediatrician, an excellent professional that he knew perfectly from the residency, and who also had a unique ability to empathize with children. "Monica, the pediatrician is Dr. Chandler M. Bing, he is a professional that I dare to recommend, but it is not mandatory that he treat Nina, if you know another one or someone recommends another one to you, you are free to choose the professional that you consider best."
"That Dr. Bing, is that his last name? He will be in this same place and with the same phone numbers," asked Monica.
"Yes, I will only change my assistant, Serena is also retiring, she was by my side all these years and she also wants to rest," answered the doctor.
"So doctor, I think we will not see each other again, I thank you for all these years that you took care of my brother and me, and now Nina, I will miss you," Monica said with emotion.
"Thank you, I will miss all my patients too, but we will be fine, you will see."
Over the next few months, Monica gradually managed to get Nina to stop wearing diapers, an important step towards her being able to start attending kindergarten in September.
When August 14th arrived, Monica couldn't believe that a year had already passed since Nina had come into her life; her dream had come true.
It had been about a month since Nina had started attending daycare when one afternoon Monica was contacted to tell her that Nina had a fever, like the beginning of a cold, and she said she had a headache.
Monica flew to daycare and took Nina home. She was alone, since all her friends were working, and she decided to call Dr. Bing's medical office. -
She was attended by a woman who said, "Good afternoon, my name is Sandy, I am Dr. Bing's assistant, how can I help you?"
"My name is Monica Geller, my daughter Nina was a patient of Dr. Gettleman's and I need an appointment as soon as possible since she has a fever and a cough."
"Mrs. Geller, when children are going through a problem you do not need an appointment, come immediately with the girl so the doctor can see them, keep this in mind for the future, if the girl gets sick bring her immediately. Do you have the address? You told me that the girl's name is Nina Geller, I'm going to look for the card that Dr. Gettleman left us, I'll wait for you."
Monica immediately left for the doctor's office. -
"Good afternoon, I'm Monica Geller and this is Nina."
"Oh yes, nice to meet you, the doctor already knows, I already gave him the card, as soon as he finishes seeing a child I will let her in." Sandy told her quickly
Monica sat down with Nina on her lap, with her little head resting on her shoulder, it was not normal that she was not moving and smiling
The door to the office opened, a mother and her child came out while greeting the doctor who stood at the door.
Monica, despite her concern for Nina's health, couldn't help but think that Dr. Bing was extremely handsome, tall, with brown hair, and a nice smile.
Sandy pointed to Monica and Dr. Bing approached, greeted her, and let her in.
Chandler also noticed Mrs. Geller, she was a small woman with jet black hair, white skin, and the most beautiful blue eyes he had ever seen.
Chandler turned to the girl, "Hello, what a pretty girl, you look like the little mermaid, did you see the movie, did you like it?" ... incredibly, Nina straightened up with a smile.
"What's your name?" Chandler asked.
"Nina E" the girl answered.
Monica smiled. "Her name is Nina Emma, but she likes to say that her name is Nina E."
"I love your name Nina E, now I'm going to check on your fever, your throat and your little lungs"
Nina let herself be examined, she even laughed when Chandler asked her to open her mouth like a shark. -
Finally he spoke to Monica, "Mrs. Geller, for now it is a bad cold, but an epidemic of bronchitis has started among small children and kindergartens are places where the contagion is faster, it does not seem that it is that infection yet, in principle I will give her medication to get better, but if you notice that the fever does not go down, more mucus, that she does not breathe normally, wrap her immediately in a blanket, and bring her, but if it gets worse at night take her to Beth Israel, before leaving call me, this is my personal phone, I will go see her at the hospital"
"But if it is night, I do not want to bother you" Monica told him
"You call me at any time of the night, it is not bothering me, I live alone, and if this happens in the morning you go directly to the Hospital and ask for me, I am at the Beth Israel Hospital starting at 8 am anyway, let's hope this ends here, if it does come with Nina next week to see how it evolves" concluded Chandler
"I am Nina E." Nina intervened.
"Oh, sorry for my mistake, it won't happen again Nina E" said Chandler with a tender and mischievous smile.
Monica said goodbye carrying Nina in her arms, at that moment Nina turned to Chandler who was accompanying them to the door and said "You're cute"
Monica blushed, actually she also thought he was very cute although she couldn't say it.
Chandler laughed, "Thanks Nina E. you're beautiful" he caressed her little head and went back to his office, thinking that Mrs. Geller was also beautiful, the most beautiful woman he had ever met in real life, too bad there was a Mr. Geller in his life"
In the afternoon Nina remained calmer, she was sleeping when friends were arriving and they found out that Monica had to take her to the doctor.
"And where did you take her, to the doctor who replaced Dr. Gettleman." Ross asked
"Yes," Monica replied
"And what did you think, did you like it?" Rachel asked
Monica smiled "yes, I liked it, with Nina it was perfect, he made her feel comfortable immediately, she let her throat be examined which is the hardest part, it's very nice"
"I think it's not just Nina that likes him" said Phoebe laughing
"He's very handsome, tall, with brown hair, blue eyes as clear as water, and a smile that is tender at times and mischievous at others" said Monica.
"Wow, looks like we found a nice specimen," Rachel exclaimed.
"To top it off, as we were leaving, Nina turned around and told him he was cute, just what I would have wanted to say to him," Monica said, laughing.
"Please, stop talking about the doctor and Monica can tell me what's going on with Nina," Ross asked.
"For now it's a cold, with a fever, but he told me there's an epidemic of bronchitic and if I see that she gets worse, I should take her immediately to Beth Israel, but first, at any time of the night, call him so he can go to the hospital and see us, he works there in the morning," Monica explained.
"Wow, he gave you his personal number! The wife must be used to being called at night for emergencies," Rachel commented.
"No, he told me I can call him at any time, that he lives alone," Monica explained.
"Fantastic! "Handsome, single, and clearly likes kids, Monica is a perfect prospect," Phoebe exclaimed.
"That's enough, girls, he's just Nina's doctor," Monica replied.
"Yes, for now," Rachel said as she passed by.
That night Nina got worse, she had the symptoms that Dr. Bing had predicted in case it was Bronchitis, so she wrapped Nina in a blanket, called Chandler who answered in a sleepy voice until he heard Monica and told her that he was already on his way to the hospital.
Rachel accompanied Monica. When she arrived at the hospital, a nurse told her that Dr. Bing was already on his way, she laid Nina on a stretcher and took her into a room, telling her, Ma'am, don't worry, we'll take care of it, don't worry, she'll be fine.
Chandler arrived a few minutes later, he was wearing clearly old jeans, a Knicks t-shirt and a jacket and his hair was clearly disheveled. Still, he was a handsome man. -
Chandler greeted them and told Monica not to worry, that as soon as she got over the condition she could be with Nina.
Rachel had told Phoebe and she had told Ross and Joey, so they all arrived at the Hospital, for all of them Nina was like their own daughter, they loved her deeply.
A couple of hours later Chandler came out, now wearing a white jacket and approached Monica, she only said "they are my friends, well Ross is my brother"
"Hi, … well, Nina is over the crisis, although we have to control her, the medication is taking effect, now she is in her room and you Mrs. Geller can accompany her, now she is awake and she ask for you, but in a little while she will fall asleep. Come with me.
They all went after Chandler, Nina as soon as she saw Monica, threw her arms, "mommy,"
Monica ran to hug her.
Chandler approached, "Okay Nina E, now you have to sleep, mom will be by your side and when you wake up they will give you a delicious breakfast" Chandler told her
And to everyone's surprise Nina said "Dad stay"
Monica blushed, "Nina this is Dr. Bing"
"No, dad" Nina answered
Chandler gently approached with a smile and took Nina's hand "honey, your dad is going to get jealous when he finds out that you called me that, I'm your doctor"
"No, you're dad"
"Okay, … but now I have to go, for a while, tomorrow when you wake up I will come, I promise"
"Promise" Nina said
"Yes, I never lie" and Chandler tangled his little finger in Nina's, "until tomorrow", he approached and gave her a kiss on the forehead.
"I'll see you tomorrow, Monica, get some rest too, try to sleep, everything's okay now."
The friends left the room with Chandler, "You guys go get some rest too, Nina will be fine, we'll see each other" and Chandler gave them one of his tender smiles and left.
The friends left commenting on Nina's reaction calling Dr. Bing "dad", and Phoebe said "that girl is special, maybe she anticipates the future" and everyone looked at her in disbelief.
"Phoebe, she's just a girl who talks without really knowing what she's saying" said Ross
"She never call you daddy" Phoebe answered, clearly upset.
The next day Chandler went to Nina's room "Hi Nina E, how is the little mermaid?"
"Hi dad, I ate everything" Monica looked at Chandler smiling, and shook her head, evidently Nina had made a decision as to what to call her doctor.
"I see you're much better, I'm sure you'll go home this afternoon" Chandler said with a smile.
"Are you coming?" Nina asked
"No honey, I have to work, but in a few days' mom will take you to my doctor's office to see how your recovery is going" Chandler answered
"Why not" Nina said with her eyes wet with tears and pouting.
Chandler couldn't see Nina crying, and although he was a bit uncomfortable, he looked at Monica questioning her with his eyes, "Look, let's do something, I'm going to work and this afternoon when I finish in my doctor office I'll stop by your house and stay with you for a while, but remember that I can't stay long, Ok"
"Ok" Nina answered with a smile
Monica accompanied Chandler to the door of the room "sorry Dr. Bing, I don't know what's wrong with her, it's really just her and me, and of course my friends who are her uncles, I adopted her a year ago, she was 18 months old, she's a sweetheart, until now she hadn't shown the need to have a father, surely she saw the other children in kindergarten."
"Monica, don't apologize, Nina is very sweet, calling me that not only doesn't bother me, it honors me, excuse me if I dare to tell you that I would stop by your house, but I can't see a child cry" Chandler told her
"You surely finish late, if you don't think it is excessive I will invite you to dinner, Nina will be delighted" and I also choked Monica in the throat.
So that it would not seem like a date, Monica asked everyone to come to dinner, despite Phoebe's opinion that she thought she had to go ahead.
Chandler received the news that there was no Mr. Geller with a deep feeling of relief, also the fact that Nina was adopted showed that Monica besides being a beautiful woman, had the courage, the maturity and the generosity to adopt that beautiful girl, clearly she was a woman who cared for her affections, Nina and her friends were proof, wow…. he was really interested in this woman.
Chandler arrived carrying a dessert, everyone greeted him and when Nina saw him she ran out "Hi daddy" and jumped into his arms.
Everyone looked at her with a smile at her determination to call him dad.
Chandler picked her up "Hi little mermaid, how are you feeling, there isn't so much mucus anymore"
"No, I love you" Nina told him with a huge smile, words that made Chandler blush.
Dr. Bing, well at that point he was Chandler for everyone, turned out to be a fun, funny, at times sarcastic, good talker, everyone really had a nice time with him.
Nina fell asleep in Chandler's arms so they took the opportunity to put her to bed so Chandler could leave without any complaints from the girl.
Before leaving Chandler told Monica that in a week he wanted to see Nina in his office.
Actually, he wanted to see Nina and her mom, but he wasn't sure if it was right to invite Monica on a date.
The consultation went as expected, Nina was fine now, she kept calling him daddy despite Monica's corrections. Chandler didn't dare to speak, so they said goodbye. -
About 15 days had passed when one Sunday morning Monica was walking from the park with Nina, she was in her stroller, and suddenly she bumped into Chandler who clearly, by his clothes and racket, had come from playing tennis.
They both smiled widely, they greeted each other, obviously Nina wanted to get out of the car to hug Chandler.
After discussing where each of them came from, Chandler perked up and asked Monica if she had time for coffee, an invitation she immediately accepted.
After making their requests, Chandler asked her, "I hope you don't mind my question, but there's something that puzzles me. You're a beautiful young woman. According to your file, you're only 27 years old. Why, Nina? Why adoption?"
Monica smiled at him, "I know that many people don't understand. Look, since I was a little girl, I always dreamed of being a mother. Over the last few years, I met some young men who had no intention of starting a family, and I dated someone who was quite older, who had no intention of having children again. So I thought, why should I delay my desire to be a mother just because I didn't have a partner who I loved and who loved me enough to have a family? So I decided to do IVF, despite the total opposition of my friends and family. "Obviously, they did the medical tests and it turned out that my uterus is inhospitable"
Chandler interrupted her "but that doesn't mean that you can't have your own children, it may be more difficult, but I know that many women have managed it even more than once"
"Yes, probably, according to what the doctor explained to me, but from the clinic's experience with that problem it was highly difficult for the fertilized egg to implant, it wasn't a technique that was recommended, and he told me about surrogacy" Monica explained and continued
"As you can imagine the news devastated me, it had never crossed my mind that I physically couldn't be a mother. I thought a lot about surrogacy and concluded that I wasn't going to be able to carry a baby in my womb anyway, I wouldn't be able to breastfeed, I would miss out on part of my dream, and I realized that before resorting to surrogacy it was better, more honest, to adopt a child who needed a home. I signed up with an agency, they didn't give me much hope since they prefer adoptive parents to be couples, but after a few months the assistant called me to tell me that there was an 18-month-old girl whose mother had died in an accident and she had no other relatives. She took me to meet her and I fell in love with Nina instantly. And here I am, happy with my little girl and with my dream fulfilled."
"It's a wonderful story, you are a very brave and determined woman, I'm glad you fulfilled your dream, and Nina is an incredible girl."
Nina, who had remained silent during the conversation, looked at Chandler and said, "Daddy, Nina E."
"Oh right, excuse me, I'm a little silly," and made a face that made Nina laugh.
"Now I ask," said Monica, "why doctor, why pediatrician?"
"I had a complicated childhood, that's a story for another day, but during high school I didn't really know what to study, I was between letters and mathematics or systems, but none of them excited me, and my counselor had noticed that I had been interested in learning some nursing techniques, and he also noticed that I had an inclination to help… and he suggested that I think about medicine. It took me a while to decide, it was a long and demanding career, but I had the support of my grandparents and also my father, as soon as I started my Bachelor in pre-medicine I realized that it was what I wanted to do, and almost from the beginning I knew that I would dedicate myself to pediatrics."
The conversation continued with great interest from both until the time came to leave, and it was then that Chandler was encouraged
"Monica, I like you and I would like to invite you on a date, look, I usually finish late, but if you want on Friday I would like to invite you to dinner"
"Of course I would like to have dinner with you, Friday is fine"
"Ok, at 7 pm I will pick you up" Chandler gave a kiss on the forehead to Nina and a strong handshake to Monica.
