Chapter 19: Frenzy
Jaken's abominable screech pierced the tranquility of the forest, sending wildlife scattering and birds fleeing in a terrorized frenzy.
Recovering quickly, Sesshoumaru turned a murderous glare on his retainer, daring him to mention his misstep. The imp predictably gulped rather loudly, opting instead to cower before the daiyoukai, body properly crumpled before him.
Turning back to the path. Sesshoumaru managed only a single step before a deep, booming laugh reverberated around the pair. Eyes narrowed dangerously, Sesshoumaru chose to ignore the insult and quickened his pace until he stood before the great tree himself.
"Ah, Sesshoumaru," the same booming voice echoed through the glade. "What brings you to visit this Old One?"
"Bokusenou," Sesshoumaru intoned, then waited until the wizened face of his father's oldest ally emerged from the massive trunk before continuing, "Are you familiar with my brother's betrothed?"
