Disclaimer: I do not own The Mr. Men Show or any of its characters, but I do own Elizabeth and the idea for this story.
On the way down the road and through the portal and cutting through the cartoons' living room, Mr. Small explained what happened with the Youtuber. Elizabeth listened to him in silence and after they entered the portal and she stumbled out into their bedroom, the human's eyes were wide with wonder and excitement, reminding Mr. Small of all the times she begged him to take her here but he refused, worried one of their friends would question where she came from and how they knew her and it would lead to the discovery of the portal and everything they've done.
Now I'm willingly being her here, still at the risk of everything coming out in the open, he thought, suddenly worried, especially since kidnapping Jack has added yet another crime they've done. What have we become? he asked himself.
But he pushed that thought away, and he jumped when Mr. Nosy approached them from the direction of the basement. He widened his eyes when he saw Elizabeth, but before he could ask anything, Mr. Small walked past him and to the basement door.
He gestured for Elizabeth to follow him and he walked down the stairs. As soon as she noticed the boy sitting in the chair, tied up, she gasped and ran the rest of the way down the stairs, stopping in front of him.
"Jack! Jack, are you okay?"
The Youtuber stared up at her, shocked in his eyes. "Another human! What is going on? Do you live here with them?" He jerked his head toward the cartoons. Then he hesitated and looked her up and down. "You are human, aren't you?"
"Yes, yes I am," she assured him. "My name is Elizabeth and I'm one of your subscribers. I love your videos."
He still seemed wary. "Who are they? They wouldn't tell me anything! That one kept asking me why people like me and I don't know what he means!"
Mr. Small blinked when Elizabeth glanced at him.
"You probably won't believe this," Elizabeth said. Then she paused and looked around. "Okay, maybe you would since you're here. Okay," she repeated," cartoons are real."
Jack stared at her. "Cartoons?" He looked past her and eyed the Mr. Men. Then a light of understanding came in his eyes. "Wait, wasn't there a show many years ago about creatures that looked like them? Weren't they called–"
"Mr. Men," Elizabeth told him. "And Little Misses. These characters are from a version of the show that aired on Cartoon Network in 2008. That's Mr. Small and Mr. Nosy."
Jack was looking confused and scared. "I still don't understand how they are real." Before Elizabeth could reply, Jack added," Can you untie me?"
When she moved to untie him, Mr. Small stepped forward. "Wait," he said and the humans turned to him. "He still needs to tell me how to get people to like me."
Elizabeth sighed. "If people don't like you, Mr. Small, then that's your own fault. You made yourself get corrupted. You did everything you did. Nobody's fault but yours. Both of you," she added, turning to Mr. Nosy. "Maybe stop doing bad things like trying to get in my pants–" Mr. Small saw Jack's eyes widened at this–" and turned back into the cartoons on the show. Be who you used to be, the Mr. Men I met when I was twelve."
Mr. Small couldn't go on looking at her and he turned away, listening as Elizabeth began to untie the Youtuber. He felt angry. Annoyed. Frustrated. Sad. Lonely. Turning toward the stairs, he left the basement, hearing Jack ask Elizabeth if she could take him home.
Storming through the kitchen, he made for the telescope and hid behind it. He didn't want anyone to see him. He didn't want to see his ex-girlfriend walking past with the Youtuber toward the portal. He pulled his legs to him and stared at the wall.
He had no idea how much time had passed before he heard footsteps and Mr. Nosy appeared around the telescope. "There you are!" he exclaimed. "I didn't know where you went!"
He sighed and didn't answer.
After a moment, Mr. Nosy said," I took Elizabeth and Jack back to their homes." Mr. Small still didn't speak.
"Maybe she's right," Mr. Nosy said quietly and Mr. Small turned to him. "Maybe we should go back to our old selves."
Mr. Small sighed. "It's too late for us," he murmured.
"Maybe not," his friend pressed. "We can see the good in life and just hang with our friends. Stop using the portal and–"
"Don't you get it?" Mr. Small shouted, jumping to his feet and glaring at Mr. Nosy. "I don't want to be that character again! There is no good in this world or any world! It's all corrupted, just like us!" He stormed past his friend and headed toward the bedroom. He tossed the last words over his shoulder," And I'm not going to stop using the portal."
Privately he added to himself, I can't lose Elizabeth again. I lost her once and I'm not losing her ever again.
Never again, he thought fiercely as he entered the bedroom and slammed the door shut.
