Author Note: I didn't like how short the events were in between each other, during the previous chapter. So I'm going to try and make it longer, suspenseful. Also this is happening during the Shibuya incident if anyone's wondering. ALSO! My take on the Mahito vs Yuji fight might be a little different. Wish me luck
Chapter II
Determined Survival
The air worsened by the minute however Orihime stood her ground, following after the energy still. Orihime could feel herself grow weak, legs becoming like jelly. The energies that swirled were extremely foreign to her. Every buzz, hum and vibration reeked of sinister intent. She walked, and walked; the hallway seemingly endless. However, the light at the edge of the tunnel caused relief.
Upon nearing the end, she exited the train station, looking around again, frowning at the city's desolation. No human in sight. Just empty echoes and brightly lit buildings alongside the concrete roads. Orihime could feel his presence grow slightly closer though it was still quite far. Needless to say, Orihime took her time to admire this vast, strange other world. Unnaturally beautiful. Truly, a breathtaking experience.
It would be a while until Orihime reunited with Itadori-kun—the pink haired boy's name—so it was best that the brunette familiarized herself with the city. Her mind briefly wandered, thinking back on Noba-kun, and she sighed. Hopefully, he wouldn't be too mad at her for the last minute impromptu decision. Surely, he'd forgive her? Right? Then Orihime's thoughts strayed once more, remembering Tatsuki-chan and the others. Orihime pout, tugging at her hair nervously. Tatsuki-chan's going to definitely kick her ass, and don't get her started on Kurosaki-kun either.
"Haaaah, I just hope they don't worry themselves to death with my sudden disappearance, it would be troublesome."
Nanami cursed, a click of his tongue as he realized that Itadori-kun and he had separated during their battle against Mahito. Nanami didn't have time to waste, he had to return to his pupil's aid immediately. Who knows what Mahito might do to the pink haired boy. Tugging at his rather colorful, zebra print tie, Nanami let out a strangled huff. His mind quickly reminds him of Maki-san, worry plaguing his mind. Last time he'd seen her was when they were burned to a crisp by that one volcanic looking curse.
'Ugh.'
The reunion would have to wait then, he needs to find Maki-san, and get her to Shoko-san; wait—his eyes going wide, as he remembered the young girl who brought him back to life. Perhaps, it would benefit Maki-san more to seek aid from Inoue-san, no offense to his senpai but, Inoue-san skills were undeniable.
Too busy contemplating on who to take the Zen'in clan member to, Nanami fails to notice the red hole that rips through the air. Noba steps out, spotting the blonde man with ease. The hole disappears, leaving Noba alone with this interesting stranger. It looked like the stoic man was lost in thought, this wouldn't do.
Loudly clearing his throat, Noba stood a couple feet behind as he avoided the sharp tip of the other's blade hovering a few centimeters from his face.
"You." The man's recognition is immediate.
"Ah—I am called Noba." The mod soul introduced himself; bowing politely.
"Nanami Kento." Nanami replies; voice gruff and low.
ah. Noba continued, "I apologize for the inconvenience however, Inoue-sama wanted me to follow after you."
Nanami quirked a brow, curious. "Why?"
"Not sure myself—all I know is Inoue-sama's order."
"Where is Inoue-san anyway?"
"She went after your pink haired comrade."
Nanami let out a relieved sigh. That brought comfort indeed. Itadori-kun would be okay so long as the healer is nearby, as she'd be able to treat any injuries he's going to receive inevitably from the fight. Not only that, she would also protect him from imminent harm too. Now to the subject at hand, this isn't the time to dilly dally. Turning his head, Nanami regarded Noba-kun curiously. He needed some information on Inoue-san's technique, hopefully with whatever details he receives, Nanami will be able to deduce her abilities.
"If I may, what exactly is your master's technique?" Nanami asked simply, attention on the servant.
Noba, not minding the assumption, replied,
"It is called the Shun Shun Rikka [1]."
"Shun Shun Rikka?"
Noba nods, "Though I do not know much aside from what it's capable of. Inoue-sama is able to attack, defend, and heal. If you wish to know more, you're better off asking the Shun Shun Rikka themselves."
Nanami frowns; she can manifest her cursed technique? How peculiar. Unheard of.
"I see."
Noba remained quiet after that, anxious to return to Inoue-sama's side. Noba had this terrible gut feeling and he didn't like it. Nanami-san broke Noba out of stupor with his words.
"Help me find Maki-san, she's a student that was severely injured."
"Alright."
Noba winced, nodding. Looks like it will be a while until he is with Inoue-sama. Though this would be beneficial, as Noba could ask the blonde man some questions of his own. For starters, where in the world were they in? What was that thing? (Mahito.) Why was their world in chaos? Why did death linger in the air?
Nanami then walked forward, heading toward where he last was with Maki-san. It would be difficult to find her, after all, someone with no curse energy is practically nonexistent to those with curse energy. Hopefully, Maki-san would be okay, and unharmed for the most part. Ignoring the burns that would scar. But Maki-san wouldn't care, in fact, she would bear it as a reminder of sorts. Nanami continued, glancing back to check that Noba was still following, to which he was.
"Excuse me," Noba piped up, surprisingly attentive. "What exactly is your world?"
This caught Nanami's interest. "What do you mean?"
"You see, your world is similar to that of Inoue-sama's and I—but not quite," Noba said, head tilted. "It's inhabited by hollows [2] and their subspecies, I couldn't help but notice that your…creatures are similar to that of one, so what exactly are they?"
Nanami walked, glancing back, regarding with intrigue. So it seemed those two were from a different place.
"I'll answer your question after you answer mine, what arehollows?"
Noba hums to himself, it's only fair. "Hollows are former Pluses [3] who end up becoming evil."
Nanami became confused. "Pluses?"
Noba huffs, opening his mouth to speak as he sensed an unfamiliar presence nearby. His attention shifts, and he is met with a hideous, disfigured body wobbling their way towards them from the shadows. Horrified at the sight, it is green, deformed and its low pained groans cause a shiver to run up Noba's spine. It grows closer, much to his dismay and Noba contemplates on what to do, as he isn't much of a fighter; his skills reside as a tactician. Nanami reacts, and cuts through the thing—slicing it in half as it falls with a splat. Noba blinks, eyes wide as he looks at Nanami.
"What was…"
"It was a transfigured human."
Noba frowns.
"You didn't quite answer my question Noba-kun."
"Pluses are the souls of the deceased."
Nanami frowns. "In other words…ghosts…?"
"In short yes,"
"Strange. Our world doesn't have as such—only cursed spirits."
"Cursed spirits…?"
"Yes, they are a race of spiritual beings that are born from the curse energy of humans caused by negative emotions."
Noba hummed, nodded—they were similar to hollows.
"I see,"
Nanami continued on, passing by the many, many, stranded, crushed cars and empty buildings. Eyes searching, scanning as he looked for the familiarity of the place where they fought that octopus looking cursed spirit. Eventually, everything fades away as Nanami spots the place where the battle took place. He speeds, briskly moving through the dimly lit space and enters the area, Noba-kun right behind him. Slipping inside, Nanami looks around worriedly—he had left Maki-san here shortly after being attacked, deciding it would be a lot safer for her to stay here as he went to find Yuji after the surge in Sukuna's cursed energy upon waking up. Thankfully, she is right where he left her, scorched; the nasty stench of burned flesh assaulting his nostrils. Right next to her, was the deceased corpse of the Zen'in Clan head.
"By Kami, what happened to them?" Noba gasped.
"A special grade did."
That term caught Noba's attention.
"Special Grade?"
"It's a scaling system we use to determine how strong the cursed spirit is."
And it clicked. "Ah."
"Let's go," Nanami grunts, picking up the unconscious teen. He briefly moves his attention over to the now dead Naobito and contemplates, would it be a good idea to resurrect that fool? No. How stupid of him to think as such. "Noba-kun, can you get us to Inoue-san?"
"I can but—!"
"Nanami-san!"
A new voice broke through, causing both men to turn their attention to the newcomer. A spiky haired teenager wearing a uniform similar to the one with pink hair appeared, closely followed by a tall, muscular man with a buzz cut and a pair of sunglasses.
"Fushiguro-kun."
"I'm glad you're okay." The boy's words are halted at the sight of his cousin. "What happened?"
"We were attacked by another special grade shortly after you were separated from us. He then proceeded to set us all aflame."
The boy, Fushiguro, frowned, "Then how are you unharmed Nanami-san?"
" It's a long story, Fushiguro-kun."
"We have time." The man in shades answered.
Nanami sighed. "Very well,"
Adjusting his cuffs, Nanami began, "Briefly after our battle with Dagon; Naobito-san, Maki-san and I were attacked by a fire-type cursed user. Resulting in our very severe burns, I came to, barely conscious. I made sure to hide Maki-san in a place where she wouldn't be spotted by another after confirming Naobito-san's death. I went off to check for any survivors. Ultimately I ended up in the subway station again,"
Nanami continued, "Where I was fighting off some transfigured human stragglers, and eventually, I was found by Mahito. Seeing as how I was weakened, he decided to finish me off. Looking back on it then, I was a bit grateful, my struggles as a sorcerer would come to an end. And I'd be at peace."
A tense silence ensued and Noba felt himself become uncomfortable.
"Unfortunately, Itadori-kun stumbled upon my location. I knew by the looks of it, I was going to die at the hands of Mahito. And I did. I died in front of Itadori-kun's eyes,"
"What do you mean, you died?!" The buzz cut continued, voice strained.
"It's as I said, I died, Yaga-sensei." Nanami continued, "And then, I opened my eyes and I was alive again."
"How?" Fushiguro was the one to ask this time.
"By a young girl with extraordinary powers."
More silence. Noba could feel himself shrinking, his shyness creeping in.
"By a girl?" Yaga huffed, laughing.
"Yes." Nanami continued, "Her technique is at least that of a special grade."
This silenced the man. "Nonsense, this kind of talent hasn't been discovered since…"
"Okkotsu-kun," The 7:3 sorcerer inhaled deeply, "I know."
"With all due respect sir, you can't possibly have me believe such a ridiculous statement when you weren't there to witness the event." Fushiguro spoke up, tense; wary.
"He's telling the truth." Noba jumped in, weakly.
All three heads turn to him.
"I saw him die,"
Yaga then said, "Who are you?"
"You can call me Noba," The teleporter replied, with yet again another bow.
"Noba-san," Fushiguro frowned. "You are certain?"
"Yes." He continued, "I saw him die with my own two eyes. Truly, a gruesome sight. As soon as it happened, I urged Inoue-sama to leave as it proved to be dangerous, but she insisted on helping the, then deceased Nanami-san and she did, resurrecting him from the dead."
Both males stared in disbelief. Fushiguro more so. It just wasn't possible.
"Do you know of her technique, Noba-san?" Yaga inquired.
"Yes—as I've told Nanami-san, it is called the Shun Shun Rikka."
Yaga and Fushiguro blinked, caught off guard by such a name.
"Do you know how her abilities work exactly?"
The principal asked, zeroing in on Noba.
And to his dismay, Noba could feel himself shrink from the intensity of the other's stare. Blushing softly—his whole face aflame. This caused the other three to gawk at him curiously. Noba fanned himself, closing his eyes as he reeled from the embarrassment. As he offered a sheepish apology, ducking his head, much to the blonde's dismay. Noba then coughed, opening his mouth to speak.
"I know not—the only thing I am aware of is what she's capable of doing; as I stated before, Inoue-sama has the abilities to heal, defend and attack. If you truly wish to know more, it is best to ask the fairies themselves."
"Fairies?" Fushiguro gaped, not buying this nonsense.
"Yes, they are the manifestations of Inoue-sama's powers; they are her soul [3]." Noba replied, relaying on what Inoue-sama had once told him.
The three other people couldn't help but just stare dumbly.
"We must make haste then. If she is as powerful as Nanami says, it would be wise to assess her prowess and enroll her in Jujutsu Tech under the tutelage of Shoko." Yaga said with a gruff, and a nod of acknowledgement.
Nanami was too fast to agree, much to Fushiguro's annoyance. He couldn't help but be wary. Someone who revives the dead? Not even Shoko is able to do such a thing, even with her knowledge as deep as that of the Reverse Cursed Technique. Well, he isn't one to disobey Principal Yaga's orders. Green eyes studied this Noba character, suspicious. Just exactly, does this guy do?
"For now, let's head back to Shoko and see what she can do for Maki." Yaga added swiftly as he then walked, headed towards the direction where the doctor was currently tending to the wounded.
Followed closely by the masked man. Noba didn't wish to go with, and seeked to reunite with Inoue-sama at once but he knew she would not like that. So begrudgingly, the mod soul stuck to the group. Hopefully, after this mess was settled with, Noba could be left to his own devices. The redhead could only pray that Inoue-sama had far better luck than he is. Dejectedly looking at the direction where he faintly sensed her reiastu, Noba sighed softly.
"Be safe, Inoue-sama."
Orihime wasn't sure if she was headed in the correct direction. Sure, Orihime could go off by Itadori's spiritual presence, but the city itself was a maze, and as much as precise she could be with her skills, it made Orihime wary. The air had settled into a much lighter tone, compared to where she and Noba had appeared. It's a relief that Orihime hadn't been expecting. Orihime has experienced many intense battles in her lifetime. From Kurosaki-kun's fight with Acidwire—her brother—to Ywach Bach, the Quincy King that made himself god.
"Goodness this city is huge—far more open spaced than Karakurachō. [4]"
Orihime trekked on, hands tugging at the hem of her pleated cotton skirt. The anxiety only worsened. A low groan sound echoes, causing Orihime to still, head tilted slightly. Something was here, the presence was very faint. Turning, she spotted what seemed like a gross looking spirit, letting out chitters as it grew closer. Frowning, petite fingers drifted over to her hairpin.
"Koten Zanshun, [5]" Orihime murmurs, "I reject."
And just like that, Tsubaki is sent into battle, slicing through the air cleanly just as it did to the spirit. Orihime heaved a sigh as Tsubaki returned to his sealed state. Orihime isn't one for violence however she isn't a pushover either. Orihime had grown up thanks to her experiences throughout the years. The brunette continued her way, looking around, a small shop district keeping the senior company. Brown hues shifted, alert.
"I'm running away!"
Orihime caught the sound of an all too familiar voice and immediately ran towards it. Heart pounding heavily within her Orihime's soul—an emotion that she hasn't felt in a while. Not since Ichigo's death at the hands of Ulquiorra back inHueco Mundo. [6] His gleeful cackles bouncing off the empty, abandoned streets. Something told her, things would go downhill if Orihime didn't do something about it.
"Get back here punk!"
A new voice growled, and Orihime blinked owlishly. It was reminiscent of a girl—no, it was a girl! Orihime hurried further, huffing and puffing in the process. Sweat clung to her pores, cascading down her visage. Orihime is definitely getting her daily work out for the day. Which is good, being healthy is what gives one longevity in life, that's what Tatsuki-chan says.
Orihime catches a glimpse of short, choppy ginger hair and navy uniform. Realizing that she must attend the same school as Itadori-kun! How funny is that? What a small world. The more Orihime discovers about this new place, the more her curiosity grows. Absentmindedly Orihime thinks about Urahara-san, and how his childlike wonder would explode at the sight of it. Also it makes Orihime wonder if it would've been better off if Kurosaki-kun was the one who was transported here.
After all, having raw strength in times like these were far more helpful than having support. It would make defeating the enemy a lot faster, dwindling the casualties. Surely. Shaking her head, Orihime slaps herself on the cheeks lightly—reddening the usual peach hued skin. This wasn't the time to be thinking on the what ifs, there are more important things at stake currently. Snapping out of her thoughts, Orihime took note that her surroundings had changed, and the pair were heading into the direction of another subway station. Brows furrowed, Orihime increased her pace, not wanting to lose sight of the girl.
There faintly in the distance, just a couple of meters away, the subway stairs lay. The duo quickly disappeared from her sight, though Orihime could still hear the other's gleeful cackles. Descending, Orihime winced, momentarily forgetting she had no shoes as cold metal stairs caused her to inwardly shiver. Orihime really needed a pair of shoes, and soon, she couldn't keep this up, it's highly uncomfortable. Just like the previous subway station before her, the atmosphere made her uneasy. Maybe it's the loneliness of it all perhaps.
"Run Kugisaki!"
Itadori-kun's voice hollered, causing Orihime to jump in surprise as she approached closer. The healer then turned the corner and then.
Yuji panted heavily, fists clenched, as he stood before Mahito, who seemed to be sporting an mirthful expression.
"Not bad Itadori, you've gotten stronger." Mahito huffed a laugh, "Maybe it's because that 7:3 sorcerer survived."
Yuji just grunted, refusing to speak to the other, still pissed. Though, the heaviness in his heart was no longer there, that numbing sensation that plagued him when he witnessed Nanami's death in his previous lifetime. How helpless he felt then. Granted, he was unable to do anything but he could start trying now. Yuji circles Mahito, glaring angrily.
The curse is still recovering from Kugisaki's attack on his soul earlier. He licked his lips, snickering, ready for another fight. Yuji sends a fist, going for a harsh right hook, the curse howling with laughter. It was enough to piss Yuji off. Mahito was something else entirely, and it irked the pink haired sorcerer. Yuji's muscles coiled tensely, anticipating the other's next move, ready for anything.
"Itadori?" Kugisaki's voice bounced off the walls as she came into view, chasing another Mahito.
Yuji gasped, attention immediately shifting from the curse to the girl in front of him. Eyes widening infearas the memory of her demise all but flashed within his mind. Immediately Mahito's eyes lit up with glee, turning his attention from Yuji to the brunette. It's about time that Mahito got his revenge, payback for the damage she had inflicted on his soul. Running towards her, hand outstretched, a sadistic, mirthful smirk tugging at his mouth.
"RUN, KUGISAKI!"
Itadori-kun yelled, horrified at it all. Chasing after Mahito as he rushed towards Kugisaki-san Kugisaki-san in turn, stood still in momentary confusion. Orihime gasped, peeking from the stairs, hands gripping the concrete wall tightly. As the Mahito clone zoomed past the original, Yuji's breath hitched, he's not going to make it and then, the way in the back of his mind, Yuji recalls how he was able to boost his speed to that of a superhuman level.
Although still tired from Sukuna's little escapade, Yuji pushed through the aching pain, gritting his teeth. Unconsciously, a fist came and smacked his thighs with a growl. Not wasting any time, Yuji boosted himself and zoomed past both Mahitos, catching the pair off guard. Orihime watched as Itadori-kun ran until he reached Kugisaki-san, grabbing hold of her in a protective embrace; holding onto his teammate tightly and roundhouse kicked Mahito right in the face, who still seemed to be reeling from the unexpected movement. Orihime let out a huge sigh of relief, leaning against the concrete wall. That was too close for Orihime's liking. Orihime could've sent out santen kesshun to save Kugisaki-san but that would only give her away, ultimately jeopardizing everything.
Orihime isn't the type to keep in the shadows, but this is the strategic route. If Orihime hides herself, the stitched user wouldn't know of her presence until she acted on it. It would serve to Orihime's benefit to stay hidden until she is needed. It's never a good idea to give away your back up plan, right? It's what Urahara-san always said. Thanks to that kind of strategic cunning that they were all able to get the upper hand on Ywach. So it would be better to hide away for now, no matter how useless and annoyed at herself Orihime felt.
Orihime's attention is brought over back to Itadori-kun and Kugisaki-san—the name of the girl she had learned via Itadori-kun's yelling—who seemed to be in good health. However, brown hues widen as Itadori-kun cups Kugisaki-san's chin, inspecting her for any sort of damage. Both Orihime and Kugisaki-san turn red, flustered. Kugisaki-san growls though, shifting his grasp as she tries to pull away. Orihime stays quiet, watching the interaction. Itadori-kun then lets out a gentle puff of air, leaning in and resting his forehead against the brunette
"You're okay."
A scandalous gasp is elicited from the buxom beauty, hand covering her lips. Oh so it's likethat? However, this turns out to be too much for Kugisaki-san and she headbutts him harshly, cheeks a glow; pretty and pink.
"IDIOT." Nobara huffs angrily, shifting in Yuji's grasp. "Of course I'm okay, why wouldn't I be?"
Quietness settles within the atmosphere—Yuji's expression is that of a pained one. Tears pooling at the corner of his eyes as the boy recalls this very day—when she had died. The reassuring smile Nobara had given him before dying. The brunette's eye socket blown out—herblood spurring everywhere, some of it landing on his youthful visage. His resolve and determination died that day. Yuji had lost not only one person close to him, but two, in the Shibuya Incident.
Yuji vividly remembers the helplessness and despair he felt that day. How he cried and cried, unable to bear the guilt, the hopelessness of the situation. If it hadn't been for Todo, Yuji would've let Mahito kill him that day. He had failed Nanamin and Kugisaki. Yuji held the blood of the innocents that Sukuna so mercilessly killed with a cruel and maniac sneer.
It was also that day, Yuji learned how easily the jujutsu world crumbled without Gojo-sensei. Had Yuji been stronger—none of the numerous fatalities would've happened. If only he had been up to par in strength like Gojo—however Yuji halted that reckless thought. No one could ever come close to Gojo-sensei, even Sukuna, who had to rely on the Ten Shadows Technique and Mahoraga to win. In fact, Sukuna had won due to his strategic and tactical skill that had outsmarted Gojo-sensei. Perhaps in a different universe, Gojo-sensei had been the one who won.
Mahito seethed, furious. Yuji had rescued his little friend from his grasp. No matter, Mahito would make that pink haired insect despair one way or the other. Nobara had freed herself from Yuji's grasp, still flustered but nonetheless, confidently cool. Yuji stood in front of Nobara, holding a protective stance while also raising his fists—expression grim. The ginger huffed, a bit peeved at Yuji's change in demeanor.
"Don't you think for a second I'm not going to be a part of this fight!"
Orihime blinked, noting the noisy teenage girl at Itadori-kun's side. Head tilted in rabid curiosity, so she's a fighter? This filled Orihime with indescribable joy. Perchance, she could ask the girl for some fighting tips? Kami knows Orihime needs the help. She isn't a fighter, more so of the supporting class—Orihime was decently skilled in her healing and defensive abilities. Not so much on the offensive, Tsubaki, more often than not, got destroyed or severely injured.
"Of course not. You're strong Kugisaki, I just want to make sure you're safe." Yuji retorted, turning to the fuming ginger. "Let's kick his ass together."
Orihime and Nobara perked up at that, the loud redhead looking a tad bit too excited. The healer watched as Kugisaki-san reached for the brown knapsack attached to her hip, summoning a hammer and couple nails. This caused the human to regard the ginger curiously. Kugisaki-san then turned to Itadori-kun, grinning wide. It would be one hell of a fight, and either they'd die trying or win. Itadori-kun then let his fist glow a soft smokey blue.
"Let's do this."
Yuji is the first to charge at Mahito, eyes narrowed as he jumps high—Nobara throwing a nail into the air before hitting it dead on with her hammer. Orihime watched as the tiny little screw soared through, embedding onto the monster's shoulder followed by Itadori-kun descending with a heavy sucker punch to the other's cheek—drawing out a bit of blood. Orihime could only watch in pure awe. Mahito stumbled, growling at the jujutsu sorcerers in pure contempt. A hand clutching his injured shoulder that had been struck by Kugisaki's attack. Mahito let out a powerful cackle.
"You two are truly a formidable team."
Mahito then vomited out deformed balls of flesh. Eyes shining viciously at the two. Immediately those marred flesh balls transformed into more human-like shapes. Nobara winced in disgust as Yuji gritted his teeth. No more…no more suffering at the hands of Mahito. The curse user sent a few abominations towards the ginger, who readied herself—two threw themselves at the straw doll user.
Seeing the fleshlings heading her way, Nobara unsheathed three nails, imbudding it with her curse energy and used her hammer to launch her attack. One of the disgusting fleshlings was disposed of, while the other two kept heavily injured, staggered towards her—wobbly and bleeding. Nobara glared, shifting through her hip knapsack to fetch more nails though it was too late—as they cornered her and latched themselves on the ginger. Their hurried and gurgling voices whispering in pain,
"Please kill us."
"Kill us."
Nobara froze. Heart sinking as she realized this was the voice of a child and woman. A mother and her child. They continued to sob and beg, tugging at Nobara's limbs dangerously. Yuji turned away from his fight with Mahito, paying attention to a frozen Nobara. "Kugisaki!"
Mahito then tackled Yuji—holding him into a severe headlock; weighing all his body mass onto the already weakened vessel. A pleased, malevolent smirk tugged at the curse user. This would be the day, Itadori Yuji would truly know despair. Yuji began to squirm, trying to escape the curse's weight, and normally this would be a walk in the park—but he's exhausted, both physically and mentally. However, that really didn't stop Yuji though, and he continued to fight. Mahito, though, found it far more amusing.
"Ne, you shouldn't look away,Yuji-kun."
At this, Mahito forced Itadori-kun to look at a struggling Kugisaki-san who had long since snapped out of it, and disposed of the hagglers. Oblivious to the creeping Mahito behind her, grinning uncontrollably. Itadori-kun's honeyed hues widen as he once again screamed out his ginger classmates name,
"MOVE OUT OF THE WAY, KUGISAKI!"
"What?" Nobara huffed out tiredly, her form haggard. Mahito only cackled with joy as he slapped his hand onto her left eye socket with a loud 'slap' and everything went still. Orihime let out a stifled scream, hiding behind the palm of her hand, brown eyes going wide with unspoken fear. Itadori-kun's reaction was different, the boy's expressionbroke. He let out a cry mixed with anguish and anger as the pink haired boy charged at the curse, punching the patched creature's cheek which flung Mahito across the subway station.
"Itadori." Orihime heard her say, the healer's own heart sinking, "Tell everyone: Life wasn't so bad!"
And then, she fell, blood spurting from her injury and splattering onto Itadori-kun's cheek with a loudsquelch, his face contorting into an expression of shock. It seemed he began to hyperventilate, his breathing erratic. Orihime began to panic, freaking out over the teenager's mental well-being. To see two of your comrades in battle within the same day? It's insane, it's cruel, and inhumane. If she were in his shoes, Orihime's spirit would've broken too. This is all too familiar to that of Ichigo's pseudo death, back in Hueco Mundo.
The way she froze in terror as Ulquiorra blasted Kurosaki-kun's chest with a cero. How she desperately sent out santen kesshun to catch the love of her life. His lifeless eyes haunted Orihime's to this day. Her powers malfunctioned, unable to heal him. Orihime's mind went numb and blank, ultimately going into a panic attack. It wasn't a pretty sight, so Orihime could only imagine how Itadori-kun felt at this moment in time.
Orihime was at a loss, wondering exactly what the plan of action would be. Orihime could sneak in, drag the girl's body away to a more secluded spot so she could heal but what if that only furthers the boy's mental breakdown? It's risky, too risky and Orihime can't risk that. Peeking from her hiding spot, the brunette notices how Itadori-kun is currently out of commission, the look of panic quickly settling into his eyes, completely oblivious to the monster's ministrations. It's getting back up, ready to fight and it laughed, charging at the boy at impressive speed. And within the moment, it was reunited with Itadori-kun's presence, landing a fist onto his stomach.
Orihime winced, briefly closing her eyes as Itadori-kun was sent flying just like how Mahito was. The pink haired boy landed against the concrete wall with a nasty 'smack'—a minor crack splitting the concrete in two. Punch after punch, Itadori-kun took the beating without fighting back and Orihime's heart ached. Orihime couldn't make out what the jerk was saying to the weakened boy. Causing Orihime to worry, fidgeting with herself. She then looked over to the ginger, the giant gaping hole in the girl's eye socket a gruesome sight.
"It's time I killed you, Itadori Yuji!" The monster said with glee, raising his arm high in the air as its hand transformed into a curved blade and swung it down, ready to decapitate the pink haired boy's head.
Orihime reacted, sending out her shield blocking the other's attack successfully. Her indecisiveness almost killed the boy today. Mahito froze, staring in disbelief; recognizing the damned luminous shield. Its golden hue is too familiar. The curse turned, pure unfiltered hatred in its eyes as they landed on the girl whose arm stood outstretched. Mahito's plans were foiled yet again by this stupid human woman. Mahito let out a frustrated growl, pointing the blade at her.
"It's you. Dumb bitch! How long are you going to stand in my way?"
Orihime refused to acknowledge it, and just let out a huff. Which only made Mahito furious.
"Fine! Keep up the silent act." He hissed. "I can't wait to hear the shrieks of pain when I stab you."
Orihime didn't flinch, eyes glancing back at the dead girl. She could save her, Orihime just needed to make sure Itadori-kun would be safe. As the monster creeped on her slowly, a resounding clap echoed within the empty subway tunnel. One minute Itadori-kun was behind the safety of her santen kesshun and the next he was laying a few feet away.
"The bells of the Gion monastery in India echo with the warning that all things are impermanent. The blossoms of the sala trees teach us through their hues that what flourishes must fade." A boy with a knotted bun who wore a similar outfit to Itadori-kun came into view, tugging at his jacket with gusto. "However, we are the exception."
Orihime blinked in between looking surprised and confused. Mahito halted in his steps, acknowledging the new presence. The boy continued to walk until he stood next to Itadori-kun, looking down at him.
"Brother! Our fight isn't over yet! Get up."
This seemed to stir the blanked out Itadori-kun; his bloodied nose dripping new set of blood.
"Todo…"
Orihime hummed to herself, making sure to remember his name. However her thoughts were interrupted Todo-san turned to her; intrigued. His facial expression shifted immediately. Getting all up in her face, Todo-san grinned; blushy. Never before had he bare witness to such beauty. Well, she pales to Takada-chan, that much is obvious! Yet, Todo Aoi is not a liar. The young miss was quite the lovely lady, perhaps second to his beloved Takada-chan.
"My, my, my, you're very beautiful, miss!" Todo-san sang, "What kind of man isyourtype?"
Orihime stared and stared, and stared, and stared. "Eh?"
Todo tilted his head upwards, fingertips resting against his temple—ah, so she was bashful. "No need to get shy! If you like women, there's no harm in that."
Orihime blanked out, flushing a bit before shaking her head. "That's not—I mean, women and men are both very beautiful and—! ah…"
Todo-san smiled, "No need to answer now, miss! We have much more important matters to attend to."
Todo-san turned, facing the curse as he stood protectively over Itadori-kun. Mahito cackled, recognizing just exactly who he was upon his arrival. The sorcerer boy who gave Hanami trouble.
"Thank you for protecting my brother," Todo addressed to Orihime. "Your shield is quite the cursed technique."
'Curse Technique? Is that what they call their powers in this universe?' Orihime mused with a small hum.
That would explain a lot. Orihime then shook her head, waving her hands around, "N-No need to thank me, I just couldn't leave Itadori-kun to die,"
Todo-san huffed inquisitively, "Ah, so you're familiar with my brother, I see. Are you a new student perhaps?"
Orihime responded, careful of her words. "I am merely a bystander."
Silence ensued, and that unsettled Orihime but it was to be expected. One doesn't just randomly pop out of nowhere, with powers of their own and magically just happen to be in the center of the battle. Her voice was enough to snap Yuji out of his dazed, hurt stupor. He immediately sat up, rushing over (crawling more like) and grasped her shoulders tightly. His tears are still fresh from his earlier breakdown.
"Inoue! C-Can you heal Kugisaki?! Like you did Nanamin!?" He sobbed softly, "Please?"
This caught Todo's attention, arms crossed. Head tilted to the side, curious. A curse technique that allows the user to have both shield and healing abilities?
"Of course I can, I promise you that. Let me just treat your injuries first."
"NO." Itadori-kun sniffled, his grip becoming a bit tighter; hurting Orihime. "Help Kugisaki first,"
The healer let out a soft sigh, touched by his selflessness. Itadori-kun eerily reminded Orihime of herself.
"Okay, just be careful okay?"
Orihime shimmied herself out of Itadori-kun's grasp and walked back to where Kugisaki-san's lifeless body lay. Everything went quiet, and the familiar incantation escaped her lips.
"Sōten Kisshun," Orihime's hand hovering over Kugaisaki-san, everyone noted the little brief glow emitted by her hairpins, taking notice of the two little flying critters emerging, and encasing the girl in a golden dome. "I reject."
Sukuna's interest was yet again taken. He watched carefully through the brat's own eyes, expression morphed into that of an amused mirth. It was the same woman, the one who miraculously resurrected the 7:3 sorcerer from death—an impossible feat, even with the knowledge of the reverse cursed technique. There is a limitation to when it can and cannot heal, to what it can restore. Silence ensued as once again, that blasted womanhealedKugisaki. The flesh and muscle that was torn and mangled slowly mending, restoring the destroyed eye and brain. And yet again, the woman had returned someone back from the dead. Sukuna's own mirth turned malicious; full of glee and annoyance.
This woman, she's trouble!
Todo's eyes widened at the sight of Kugasaki's revival. The other boy who arrived with Todo-san, let out a gasp, gloved hand over his mouth.
"How…?"
Kugisaki-san looked good as new, as if her injury had never happened. Itadori-kun let out a sigh of relief as he laid against the golden dome, shedding his tears of joy. Body filled with tremors, due to the immense pain he was suffering from.
"Your turn, Itadori-kun," Orihime's gentle voice caught his attention, looking at her curiously.
"Right," Itadori pulled away, he stilled as the dome extended, encasing him in with Kugisaki as well. The effect was immediate. Warmth encased his entire being, touched his soul, soothing the pain. Sukuna felt it as well, closing his eyes and for once, let himself relax—letting out a deep exhale. Orihime, satisfied with her work, let out a hum, withdrawing Shun-ō and Ayame. At that moment, Kugisaki-san decided to awaken, confused and dazed.
Light brown eyes slowly opening. "Where…am I?"
Yuji shifted, towering over Nobara with a soft smile. "Kugisaki!"
A bit bemused, Nobara continued, "Itadori, could you be any louder?"
Orihime watched a Kugisaki-san rise, carefully all while Itadori-kun threw himself, hugging her as gently as he could. Kugisaki-san seemed to be caught off guard, flushed as she tried to pry the clingy boy off herself. To which, Itadori-kun refused. Todo-san and the blonde boy stared at him as if she were some sort of god. This kind of attention was new, even with the others back home. After all, everyone was familiar with her powers, however they were not.
"That was amazing, Inoue-san! I've never seen such a display of power even with reverse cursed technique!" The bob haircut blonde went up to her, clasping his gloved hands together.
"Indeed, you're quite the surprise Miss Inoue." Todo-san chimed in, letting out belly laughter.
Orihime felt herself turn a pretty pink, "Ah, you're giving too much credit, truly. I was just doing my job."
"Still, you seem strong—how come you've never been scouted before?! It's hard to miss your rather immense cursed energy." The buff boy said with a hum. "However that is a conversation for another time, we have pressing matters to deal with,"
Todo-san said, turning to look at Mahito, who looked absolutely livid. "Whoa! That's a scary face ya got there,"
Todo snorted, standing tall before the curse user, who was joined by Yuji. "Ready brother?"
Yuji responded in kind, "Ready."
"Inoue-san, if I may, let's get out of here and take Kugisaki-san to safety." The blonde, who was revealed to be called Arata Nitta.
"What you crazy, I can still fight you bastard!" Kugisaki cut in, snarling.
"Kugisaki-san, you've just recovered, you need to rest," Orihime said, placing a hand on the feisty girl's shoulder.
The ginger was ready to retaliate, however, she quickly changed her mind—thinking how she would just be a nuisance, besides she was still a bit tired. Her cursed energy on the low reserves. "Fine, only because I feel like fucking shit."
Orihime giggled, amused by the girl's vulgarities. Before turning to Arata-san,
"Sounds like a plan, let's retreat for now."
Arata-san nodded and motioned Orihime to forward, closely followed by an irritated Kugisaki-san. The trio disappeared, but not before Orihime picked up on Itadori-kun's tenderthank you.
Noba and the group arrived at the building where this Shoko person was stationed. Upon entering, Noba was caught off guard by the countless injured people. And amongst them all, was a sole woman in a lab coat, smoking a cigarette. Frazzled and on edge, Shoko Ieiri, ruffled her hair in frustration. Too many were fatally wounded, a good bunch died, and others were biding time to recover from their injuries. Shoko could feel herself becoming drained. All these people and not enough time or help.
"Shoko," Yaga called out to her, much to chagrin.
"Yes sensei?" Shoko responded tiredly.
"What's the status?"
"Not good. I'm doing as much as I can, but I feel myself reaching my limit."
"You must rest then, no point in overexerting yourself. It would do us more harm than good. You are our only doctor,"
Shoko gritted her teeth, briefly crushing the cig in her lips. "I know but I can't."
Nanami came forward, placing Maki on an empty cot carefully. Shoko noticed immediately and rushed over to the second year. "What happened?"
"We were ambushed by a special grade after our previous battle."
Shoko sighed, rubbing her temple as she went to work. Addressing Maki's injuries and prioritizing the more fatal wounds on her charred body. Nanami then turned to Noba, much to the interest of Yaga. Fushiguro meanwhile, stood over his cousin, worried for her safety and well-being.
"Noba-san, we have to get Inoue-san," Nanami said.
"I agree, if your mistress is as powerful as you say, then we are in desperate need of help. Shoko can't do this by herself, especially when she's running on empty." Yaga hummed, crossing his arms.
Noba sighed, as he loathed it, they were right; these people, innocent civilians were suffering and Inoue-sama would not tolerate such distress.
"Alright, I just have to sense her reiatsu and I should be able to teleport us to— "
However he wasn't able to finish that thought as someone arrived. Alongside an all too familiar face. Noba felt himself cry in relief at Inoue-sama's presence.
"Shoko-san!" A new voice chimed in, and everyone turned.
"Inoue-sama!" Noba cried tears, as he rushed over to his assigned partner. Orihime's eyes sparkled, as she rushed too.
"Noba-kun."
The pair met halfway and grabbed each other's arms, relieved to see the other safe. Everyone's eyes went immediately to the new arrivals. Yaga looked at Nanami, motioning to the brunette accompanying Kugisaki. And the blond man nodded. Fushiguro couldn't help himself from staring at the other, she was awfully optimistic and cheery, just like Itadori was. A vague sense of déjà vu filled him. Shoko could care less, they were all fine and uninjured.
Yaga approached first, bowing before Orihime, "I take it your Inoue-san?"
Orihime nodded, feeling herself blush—she was getting treated with far too much respect. "Yes that's me,"
"I am the principal of Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School," Yaga continued, "Please, lend us your strength."

Shun Shun Rikka [1] :
(盾舜六花, Six Princess Shielding Flowers)
Orihime's spirit energy is harbored in the pair of six-petal flower-shaped hairpins that her brother gave her. Shun Shun Rikka is composed of six spirits that reside within the hairpins, each of which is two petals on the clip when inactive. Only spiritually aware beings can see them. They reside in her hair-clips, which are shaped like six-petaled flowers. Through various combinations of the six fairies, Orihime has the power to reject phenomena by denying or undoing events in various forms. This power can be used for attack, defense, or healing (depending on the combination).
Hollows [2] : ( 虚 / ホロウ; Horō) are a race of creatures which are born from Human Souls who, for various reasons, do not cross over to Soul Society after their death and stay in the Human World for too long. They are corrupt spirits with supernatural powers which devour the souls of both living and deceased Humans. Hollows settle in Hueco Mundo, but can cross over to the Human World and Soul Society. Hollows are the opposite of Humans
Pluses & Souls [3] :
Souls (魂魄, Konpaku) refers to the spiritual beings that reside in the Rukogani area of Soul Society and the spirits of dead Humans in the World of the living. While many Souls are deceased Humans from the Human World, it is known that they can be born within Soul Society as well.
(整 / プラス; Purasu; Wholes) are the benign ghosts in the Human World. They are the spirit of a person who has died. A chain, known as the Chain of Fate, protrudes from the chest and connects the soul to its living body. When this chain is severed, the soul can no longer return to its body and live. The soul can move about freely if the chain is broken, but this also causes the chain to slowly corrode. Normally, pluses are sent to Soul Society by Shinigami in a ritual called Konsō before this corrosion becomes significant. If the Chain of Fate is corroded entirely, the Plus will become a Hollow. This type of Soul, not possessing any regrets or other ties to the Human World, is also referred to as Fuyūrei (浮遊霊, Wandering Spirit; Viz "Floating Fuyu Spirit")
Karakurachō [4] : ( 空座町 ; Empty Seat Town) is a settlement in the Human World, located in Western Tokyo.
Koten Zanshun[5] : (孤天斬盾, Solitary Sacred Cutting Shield) is Orihime's offensive technique. It rejects the fusion of matter and splits it. The incantation summons Tsubaki, who has the ability to repel "both sides of the shield." He breaks through the enemy, puts up a shield inside, and repels the combined substance, splitting the enemy in two. While Tsubaki can cut through basically anything, Orihime's general dislike of combat and hesitance to use lethal force degrades the effectiveness of the technique, making him easy to counter and equally easy to injure.
Hueco Mundo [6] : (ウェコムンド, Wekomundo ; Spanish for " Hollow World", Japanese for " Hollow Sphere") is the dimension in which Hollowa and Arrancar usually reside. It lies in between the Human World and Soul Society.
