Ch 10
After the battle, the rest of the Shazamily along with their foster parents walked into the destroyed stadium as soon as the dome shut down.
"Billy!" Freddy shouted, praying with all his might that Billy wasn't dead.
If he was gone, he wouldn't know what to do anymore.
"Billy!" Mary joined in Freddy's calls.
"He's over here!" Anthea said.
Then they found the fallen Billy with his shirt entirely scorched and his eyes closed.
"Hey, wake up." Freddy said. "You did it! Okay, you're supposed to open your eyes and laugh and say 'you got me.' Cause you got me. Hey, joke's over man."
After a full thirty minutes, Billy still didn't wake up.
No, no, no! Freddy thought with overwhelming dread.
This had to be a nightmare.
This couldn't be happening.
This couldn't be possible.
Now he knew what it must have felt like for Billy when he had been captured.
Why did this always happen?!
Then Freddy had a complete breakdown.
"You asshole! We're a team! WE'RE A TEAM!"
Freddy's sobs were the only thing that broke the cold silence as Rosa hugged him sadly.
"He was a hero." Mary said. "He was a hero and a god."
"And he should be laid to rest like one." the Wizard added.
The next day, everyone went to Olympus and they buried Billy with the picture of him and Freddy above his grave.
"Will this land ever come back?" Darla asked.
"It needs the power of a god to restore it." the Wizard said. "And there are no gods left."
"There is one." a familiar voice replied.
To everyone's complete shock, Wonder Woman had arrived.
"What?" Freddy asked in surprise.
The Wizard gave Diana her staff and she plunged it into the ground.
A burst of magic flowed through Olympus, then the Tree of Life sprouted out of the center, majestic and beautiful.
Dozens of flowers also emerged along with colorful birds.
Olympus had been revived.
Then one of the birds landed on Billy's grave before it flew off just as a hand burst out, startling everyone.
"What the hell?!" Billy asked. "You buried me? After what, two minutes?"
After everyone embraced Billy, he couldn't believe his eyes.
"Oh my, why didn't anyone tell me? Uh, sorry. I didn't see you there. I was dead at the time."
"I think you've got something." Diana said.
"Where?" Billy asked.
Then he awkwardly pulled out a spider from his mouth and threw it aside.
"That's a spider. That's disgusting. Actually, that's really embarrassing."
"Yes. But it was a noble thing. The sacrifice you made. Maybe this time gods and humans can learn to live in peace. Use the power of Zeus wisely. Be well, Billy Batson."
"Hey, just cause your father's power is surging through me, that doesn't technically make us related and I'm gonna be 18 in a few weeks, so.."
Billy made a clicking sound with his tongue.
"Stick to saving the world, kid." Wonder Woman declined before she walked off.
Oof, that was a hard pass from his superhero crush.
"Yeah, that's cool, see you." Billy said but she was already gone. "Hey, who wants the house back?"
Literally everyone raised their hands.
"We can do that, right?" he asked.
"Yeah." the Wizard replied.
Later, the family did get their house back with a few changes.
Freddy had a picture of him and Anthea in his room and there was also a no-Shazamming sign in the room.
Then the Wizard arrived and he had human clothes as well as a hat.
"Whoa." Billy said in wonder. "Hey guys, look who it is!"
"What is this?" Freddy asked in amazement. "You're pimpin!"
"Well, I was just in the neighborhood and I wanted to see your faces one last time before I disappear into a pile of ash." the Wizard said.
"No!" Everyone said worriedly until the Wizard laughed.
"I am making a joke." he said and everyone sighed in relief. "Besides, I have Uber waiting."
Then the Wizard took the staff back.
That was the real reason why he came here.
"You were just in the neighborhood?" Billy asked knowingly.
"Okay, I came for the staff." the Wizard replied with a chuckle. "Perhaps I will hold onto it for now. It has been an honor watching you all soar."
"What should my superhero name be?" Billy asked as the Wizard opened the door.
"Your name is…Shazam." the Wizard replied, then left.
"Of course." Billy said.
It was the word he used to turn into a superhero so it made perfect sense.
"I still think we can beat it." Freddy said with a grin.
