Hello and welcome to another experimental fanfic of Boku no Hero Academia, in which a new inspiration popped into my head in an unexpected way, and for the first time, I will be incorporating a combination of detective -themed elements here as I find it quite challenging, as most of my other Hero Academia fics are purely romantic and comedic, and here this is where I will put the characters to the test.
This fic came to light when I was browsing Youtube on my smartphone, until I came across an uploaded video where I happened to accidentally saw the movieThe Big Easy, a 1986 film which stars Dennis Quaid and Ellen Barkin. It deals with drugs as well as detective-theme on snuffing out police corruption, so this gave me ideas to make a story on this and this one will use characters from Hero Academia
Izuku Midoriya is the likely lead, but then I decided to have the story's setting in America, and there I had to think of someone who would be the female lead, as Melissa Shield is out of the question due to her residing at I-Island, and had to think of someone who could fill the void, until Meryl came to mind, and there I find it intriguing as both Midoriya and Meryl have some contrasting personalities, but this would also challenge how they would get along.
Because this fic is M-rated, there will be LOVE SCENES between the two of them anytime within the upcoming chapters.

Ch. 1: Prologue
A few months ago…
I-Island is an artificial moving island inhabited by over ten-thousand scientists conducting research on Quirks.
Every company in the world involved with the Pro Hero business invested money to create a technological paradise for the research and development of Quirks and support items.
I-Island is an artificial moving island created for scientists to peacefully research together. Thousands of scientists and their families inhabit the island's main cities. Scientists primarily research the Quirk phenomenon and develop tools to support Pro Heroes.
The island was created to gather the worlds top researchers to a safe place where their combined talents could study Quirks. There are several countermeasures in place to prevent criminal incidents. The island's security system is on par with that of Tartarus Prison, many of its structures are built sturdier than bomb shelters, and scientists cannot leave the island to ensure confidentiality. There had never been aVillainattack on the island before.
I-Island is also home to the famous I-Expo, a city-wide event that showcases all the island's technological advancements. Pro Heroes are invited by the event sponsors and people are permitted to use their Quirks in public.
The scene shifts at a park where All Might and Izuku Midoriya are there, as they are waiting for someone to pick them up, and there another individual happened to be nearby, which was a female, where she is described as a dark-skinned curvaceous woman of seemingly average height, with blue eyes, thick eyebrows, and light blonde shoulder length hair.
For her attire, she is mainly seen in an all white thigh-length dress, with shoes in a similar color, and a wristwatch on her left wrist. The female blinked her eyes at seeing All Might here at I-Island where seconds later tourists were awestruck upon seeing the Number One pro hero and they immediately mobbed him, asking for autograph and requesting a selfie.
"Look!"
"Oh wow…"
"Its him…!"
"Its All Might!"
"No way! For real?"
"I want his autograph!"
"Me too! I want a selfie with him!"
"Out of the way! I got here first!"
The female individual was also awestruck as she didn't expect to see All Might being here at I-Island, and she wondered if this is a blessing in disguise. The female individual is revealed to be Meryl, who turns out that she is part of the BCD News, where it turns out that she mainly reports on the weather that is currently happening, even outside of the United States, and does some research on the weather herself, relaying the information in a professional condense way.
A flashback scene revealed that she was sent here by the BCD News president as he received an invite at I-Expo, but he is FULLY BOOKED due to his commitment at the studio and requested Meryl to go to I-Island in his place and use her position as reporter to GET SOME SCOOP within I-Island and see what she could dig on, so as she could bring something with her once she returns to America.
Meryl initially tried to decline, reasoning that she's only a weather reporter and felt that she doesn't deserve the invite but the BCD News president assured to her that it is okay as she earned it due to her diligent work, and he offered her a substantial raise in salary and some EXTRA POCKET MONEY to shop at I-Island, which slightly enticed her and she reluctantly accepted.
As the crowd dispersed after getting their autographs, All Might is alone with Midoriya, and there Meryl blinked her eyes at seeing the younger boy, as she somewhat recognized him, and there it is revealed that Meryl happened to watch a Livestream video of the UA Academy Sports Festival several weeks ago, and she watched it from the start to the end
Meryl also watched the tournament portion of the sports festival where she saw Midoriya fought Shoto Todoroki during the quarterfinals of the tournament portion and there she was baffled at seeing how Midoriya fought, and saw how he injured himself when using his Quirk, and this made her wonder why would Midoriya study at UA Academy if he has a Quirk that would harm his own body.
By then someone appeared and greeted All Might, who turn out to be Melissa Shield, as she is a longtime acquaintance of All Might from ten years ago, and there she led All Might and Midoriya away as Meryl had a feeling that she might run into Midoriya again as she sensed that he is here at I-Island for a reason and this made her curious and intrigued, seeing that Midoriya is more than what he appeared to be despite acting like an ordinary boy.
"Hmm…that Midoriya…I wonder what he's like once I get to interview him…"

Later that night, an incident took place where the villain identified as Wolfram took the party guests hostage and threatened to kill them, prompting Midoriya and a few classmates of his to stealthily take action and managed to lure Wolfram and his henchmen away from the hostages and fought outdoors, where Meryl, who managed to evade the situation, watches on from a distance.
The next scene shows that All Might soars through the helicopter, rescuing David Shield, Melissa's father, and sending the villains to their fiery demise all in one motion. David tries to apologize to All Might but Wolfram abruptly appears from the smoldering remains of the crashed helicopter.
"Boo!"
"What the…?"
"Surprise, All Might!"
"How…?"
"Ha-ha-ha! Take this!"
"Ooof!"
"And this!"
"Uuuunnnfffhhh!"
He attacks them both with a metal pillar and traps David in a metal casing. Wolfram is using David's Quirk Amplification Device to boost his Quirk exponentially. The No. 1 Hero tries to silence the villain but Wolfram proves far more powerful than before.
Wolfram uses his enhanced powers to transform the tower's roof into a scrap metal hell. Wolfram nearly crushes All Might under the weight of a steel barrage. Shoto Todoroki and Katsuki Bakugo prove a hero is never alone and come to his rescue. The other students join the fray, with Tenya Iida and Eijiro Kirishima taking on the metal pillars as well. Motivated by his students' heroic passion, All Might goes beyond his limits and uses his awesome power to break through Wolfram's iron defenses.
"Enough, Wolfram!"
"Uuuunnnfffhhh!"
"Your foolishness ends here!"
"Uuuunnnfffhhh!"
"No more criminal shenanigans!"
"Uuuunnnfffhhh!"
"And you're going to jail!"
"Uuuunnnfffhhh!"
Just when it seems like the No. 1 Hero is gaining the upper hand, Wolfram traps him with metal wires and tries to crush his throat with a surprise Muscle Augmentation Quirk. All Might can't believe Wolfram has even more power and deduces that his most evil foe, All For One, must be behind this. Wolfram reveals that when he was planning the invasion, All For One contacted him offering to help.
All For One gave Wolfram this power and information on All Might because if David plans to walk on a path of villainy, he wanted to help twist All Might's best friend to the darkness so he can demoralize All Might when he finds out his friend betrayed him. All Might's smile fades from the shock of finding out his arch-nemesis has orchestrated the whole incident. Wolfram crushes All Might under a torrent of scrap metal. Izuku's instincts kick in and he breaks the iron prison apart in time to save his mentor.
All Might scolds Midoriya for being reckless with his Quirk. Midoriya argues that a hero must act when people are in trouble.
"Are you out of your mind, young Midoriya?"
"Yeah! I do!"
"What?"
"A hero must save lives as much as one is able to! And to do that one must sometimes do reckless things in order to save lives!"
"Young Midoriya…"
"So don't worry! I'm here!"
"Heh…heh-heh-heh…"
"…"
All Might's smile returns and he thanks his young successor. He asks that Midoriya aid him in this final battle. There Midoriya arms his Full Cowl and places his faith in Melissa's Full Gauntlet. Sensei and pupil race into the heat of battle, rushing pass an endless iron assault from their foe. Melissa watches as Midoriya mirrors All Might's power and is moved to tears by their teamwork.
Wolfram's last-ditch effort is forming his metal into a massive iron cube large enough to crush the tower. All Might and Midoriya go beyond their limits and break through the cube with a Double Detroit Smash! David and Melissa watch as the U.A. students cheer on their heroes to victory. All Might and Midoriya chant the time long motto of U.A., "Plus Ultra", as they finish the villain off with twice the full might of One For All.
"Plus Ultra!"
"Plus Ultra!"
"Uuuunnnfffhhh!"
"This is for David and Melissa!"
"And for the trouble you caused!"
"Uuuunnnfffhhh!"
"You're going down!"
"So stay down!"
"Uuuunnnfffhhh!"
At last, the heroes are victorious and the scrap metal hell disintegrates into dust, along with the Quirk Amplification Device and the Full Gauntlet. As he regains consciousness, David sees the triumphant pose of Midoriya, and sees a young All Might within him. Melissa checks on Midoriya and All Might on David. David thanks All Might for saving him but All Might bestows the credit on their successors.
They are the two heroes who saved the day. Reuniting, Melissa appreciates everything Midoriya has done, while reminds her that her actions helped save everyone on this day, also apologizing for getting the Full Gauntlet destroyed, though she assured to him that it is alright as what's important is that he is alive and well.
"So sorry, Melissa…the invention you gave me has…"
"Its okay, Deku. I don't mind it."
"Really…?"
"Yes."
"Melissa…"
"What's important is that you and uncle Might are alive and well."
"Thanks…"
"Its okay."
As police and medics arrived, Meryl watches on as the injured are being tended whilst Wolfram and his henchmen are being restrained and taken away, and there she sighed as she internally stated that she at least have something to bring back to the US as she got herself a scoop even though she is still technically a weather reporter.
"Looks like I got myself a scoop…"

Three days later, the incident was left behind as the I-Island situation stabilizes and it was business as usual, as the I-Expo exhibit is open to the public, and there Class 1-A are seen showcasing their displays whilst Denki Kaminari and Minoru Mineta are doing their rounds as staff members accommodating the tourists and guests, while Bakugo reluctantly represented Class 1-A because he was the first-place winner of the UA Academy Sports Festival, and tourists and guests began taking pictures of Bakugo whilst the latter was forced to use his willpower to restrain himself from arguing with the tourists and guests who are using their smartphone cameras.
"Wow…if you behave…you'd be good-looking…"
"You're really a good boy…"
"Face here, please."
"…"
"That's it…"
"Nice…"
"You'd make a good souvenir…"
"…"
Meanwhile, Meryl attended the expo exhibit and there she saw Midoriya at a stall, all alone and she glanced at the younger boy, finding him intriguing as he doesn't show off any proud demeanor or showboating himself as a UA Academy student, as he is acting in a humbled way and this made her wonder what kind of boy Midoriya is, especially after witnessing him helping All Might in defeating Wolfram.
There she approached Midoriya and introduced herself as a reporter from America and began engaging in a friendly yet casual talk with Midoriya, and there she noted that he appeared to be quite shy towards a female individual yet he is humble and accommodating, and there Midoriya said that he is glad that Meryl wasn't caught in the crossfire though she assured to him that she knows how to be careful.
"Thanks for the concern…but I'm okay now, so don't worry "
"Really…?"
"Yeah…though I'm a bit worried about you. Saw you on TV…the UA Sports Festival…you blew up your own hand whenever you use your Quirk and…"
"Oh…it's okay. I managed to control it. I'm more careful now."
"Huh? Really…?"
"Yeah…you saw it the other night…I helped All Might defeat Wolfram…"
"I see…"
"Well…"
Not far, Kaminari and Mineta stared wide-eyed at seeing Midoriya talking to Meryl, and expressed jealousy and envy at seeing their classmate talking to an attractive woman and began to suspect that Midoriya is discreetly trying to HIT ON HER and planning to take Meryl on a secret date and then go to a LOVE HOTEL and GO ALL THE WAY with her all night long
"That Midoriya…"
"First Melissa…and now that woman…"
"He's trying to one-up us out…"
"I really suspect that he has a SECRET SEDUCTION QUIRK…"
"Damn that smooth-talking, curly-haired bastard…"
"Midoriya is a SEXUAL MANIAC…"
"I'm going to grill him…"
"Me too…"
However, a few pro heroes from America happened to see Meryl talking to Midoriya, and they expressed intriguing curiosity as they seem to see SOME CHEMISTRY between her and Midoriya, even though the two have a slight age gap (Meryl is 22 years old while Midoriya is 16 years old).
The pro heroes in question turn out to be:
- Captain Celebrity
- Elecplant
- Cow Lady
Captain Celebrity felt being upstaged as a mere younger boy appeared to be GETTING FAMILIAR with Meryl and wanted to try HITTING ON her but Elecplant and Cow Lady held him back as they reminded that his wife is OBSERVING HIM and he would face a severe consequence if he dare flirt with a female out of the blue.
"Stop right there, Cap."
"No flirting…"
"Huh? But…I…I just…"
"You know what would happen, right?"
"You're wife…she…"
"Eeeehhh?"
"If you don't want that to happen…behave."
"That's right."
"Geez…"
A few days later Class 1-A left I-Island once the exhibit ended while Meryl head back to America to tell her boss what went on at I-Island, and at the same time resume her role as a weather reporter though at certain occasions she would act as a standby news reporter if needed, which she accepted after being promised of a slight raise in her salary.

Several weeks later…
Back at Musutafu, the next scene shows that nearly all members of Class 1-A passed the provisional hero license exam, with Bakugo and Todoroki being the only ones who failed, and Midoriya is looking forward to do actual hero work, and all he needed is to wait for the go-signal, while Bakugo and Todoroki were told to be on standby ad they would be taking make-up sessions leading to a supplemental exam that would give them a chance to earn the provisional hero licenses.
Back at America, despite the pro heroes' diligent and relentless works, problem intensifies, as drug trafficking persists in several counties, ranging from Chicago, Illinois to Texas to West Virginia to Louisiana up to New Orleans, and there the townspeople are getting restless as the drug trafficking ensnared several youths into getting involved in the drug trade, resulting in several youths getting arrested and some killed due to gang wars.
"Please do something!"
"Our kids are falling prey to the drug trade!"
"Cant you cops do something?"
"We want results! We want our town to be free from drugs and gangs!"
"Yeah!"
"Yeah!"
"Yeah!"
"Yeah!"
The next day, the scene shifts at the rooftop of the Metropolitan Police Department, where the police commissioner, identified as Jaime Gourdo, is discussing with his trusted colleague, identified as Harvard Bullshet, a police Sergeant, and there the two are facing mounting pressure from the public due to the escalating gang wars that involves drug trafficking, and that they believe that there is corruption within the police department.
"This is bad, Bullshet. We can't solve this problem as we have been held back by our superiors…"
"I agree with you, commish. What's more I couldn't pinpoint how many of the corrupt are amongst us…it could be anyone…"
"I wish we could get help…"
"But we can't do that openly since we're being watched…"
"Looks like we're on our own…"
"I'll see which cop we could trust…"
"Please be careful…"
"I will…"
By then the two had an unexpected visitor who somehow sneaked towards the rooftop of the building without being seen, and as Gourdo and Bullshet looks on they were surprised that the unexpected visitor, who then removed the hat and revealed to be a female, as that visitor turns out to be Makoto Tsukauchi, a police detective from Naruhata, Japan, and there she revealed that she is an ally to Captain Celebrity.
There she revealed that she is aware of the corruption that is plaguing the Metropolitan Police Department and said that all they need is evidence to flush the corrupt officials out but in order to do that, they'll be needing a pair of individuals who could go undercover as she said that she got a lead on which gangs the corrupt officials are connected to.
"A pair…?"
"As in…?"
"Yes. A pair that would not arouse suspicions…"
"How?"
"I'm betting every cop here knows the residents and…"
"Don't worry. I happened to know who we can ask to do the undercover work…"
"Are you serious?"
"You got to be kidding…!"
"…"

Hope you liked the opening chapter, as it shows the events taking place at the conclusion of the Two Heroes anime film, which I felt that it would fit in the current events of the My Hero Academia world, but also to give a narrative on the possible chain of events that would affect not only America but also the rest of the world, Japan included…
Midoriya and Meryl finally met in this chapter and so far their interests got piqued, but this also leaves something unexpected as Makoto Tsukauchi from My Hero Academia: Vigilantes made an appearance and is implying that she knows who would pose as undercover agents, though she hasn't revealed who…
