"watch out!"

a panicked shout caught everyone in the gym's attention, only to freeze in shock, watching as a volleyball was hurled at full force towards a passing student.

players nearby instinctively tried to stop the ball, only to fall short when the girl received it effortlessly. everyone looked at the girl in shock, as that was their captain's famous serve, known for its arm-breaking speed and strength, only snapping out of their stupor at the sound of their libero's concerned shout.

"hey, are you okay?!"

shinji watari asked concernedly, hurriedly approaching the mystery girl.

"yep, I'm okay!" she chirped, her bright smile illuminating the tense atmosphere.

the players blinked, now noticing her features more clearly. this girl was cute—really cute— they found themselves blushing at the revelation.

"oi, what are you brats doing, dawdling around?! get back to practice!"

said players soon returned to practice—though a few continued casting glances towards the unfamiliar face— fearing the wrath of their beloved coaches.

"ah, sorry about that cutie-chan!" oikawa tooru, the aforementioned captain walked towards the girl rubbing the back of his neck, smiling sheepishly.

"its okay! but that sure was one strong serve, right watari-san?"

'no shit sherlock' everyone thought, blankly staring at the girl who was smiling nonchalantly at the whole situation.

oikawa hummed, narrowing his eyes at the girl, his curiosity piqued. 'who is this girl?' he wondered, sharing the same thought with almost everyone.

"watacchi, you know this cute girl?" the captain asked his libero, eyes still trained on said girl.

"eh? ah yeah, she's my classmate, a transferee from tokyo..." he trailed off, casting a suspicious glance at his captain. "oikawa- san, whatever you're planning, please stop it."

"eh?! so mean! i didn't even say anything!" oikawa turned to his junior, tears comically flowing down his face, staring at him in betrayal and shock. "how could you, watacchi- gah!"

his head was suddenly forced forward from the familiar sting of his friend's hand hitting the back of his neck.

"oi, shittykawa! what were you thinking?! were you even thinking?!"

oikawa looked up, smiling sheepishly only to flinch back at the terrifying glare his childhood friend- iwaizumi hajime- was sending him.

"geez iwa-chan, you're so mean! i already apologized to her, no need to hit me!" he raised his arms, ready to defend himself just in case iwaizumi decided to hit him again, craning his head to look at the girl who appeared taken aback at the sudden scene. "didn't i, cutie-chan?!"

"eh—umm—yeah, he did!" she stammered, her eyes wide but returning to her bright smile. Oikawa winked at her, surprised when she didn't react, which only added to his intrigue.

"see, iwa-chan!" he smiled smugly at his vice-captain. "i did apologize!"

iwaizumi sighed tiredly, moving to look at the girl— but not before sending oikawa a heated glare that promised death.

"i apologize for this idiot's actions." he bowed at the girl apologizing, ignoring his captain's insulted squawk of 'idiot?!' and his other teammates snickering.

"please raise your head!" the girl exclaimed, a hint of panic in her voice. "it's really okay! and besides, he did apologize already!" her hands were still gripping the volleyball tightly.

iwaizumi straightened up, his hands reaching out to take said volleyball from her.

"thanks for being so understanding," he said, glancing back at Oikawa, who was gazing at the concerned girl in amusement.

"hmmm, you heard her iwa-chan, all's fair and well," he waved his hands dismissively, ignoring the way his teammate's face turned murderous yet again.

oikawa turned to look at the girl, his signature charming smile in its place. "by the way, what's your name cutie-chan?"

cutie-chan blinked up at him with those deep blue marine eyes in surprise,

'cute' he thought, watching as she raised a hand in a playful salute, her grin wide.

"its nakano yotsuba, desu!"
