Hey, sorry this chapter took so long! I was struggling about how to tie all my ideas for it together. Hope you enjoy!

Spidermanne REBOOT: chapter 10

Chapter 10: to break a family apart

Anne woke up in rope, with wind on her face and a feeling of hard concrete.

"Uuggh… my head…"

A man shook her.

"Anne! It's me. Sasha's dad. I don't have much time. He'll take control back any second now."

"…mr waybright…?"

"Yes. We're on top of a building. He's going to talk to you, try to make a deal. Whatever you do- DO NOT ACCEPT. If- Once you get free, do whatever you can to get rid of bill. Wether that be some hippie crap going into my mind, or…"

"Killing you…" Anne thought out loud.

"Yes," he said grimly. "Before I go under, i want you to tell Sasha that I'm sorry that I wasn't there for her. Tell her that she'll always be my baby girl."

"I…"

"Please…" oliver waybright pleaded.

"…I will."

Suddenly Oliver's demeanour changed to a malicious grin.

"Well, well, well. Anne Boonchuy. Gotta say, you've been a thorn in my side for quite a while."

"I'm flattered," Anne quipped back. "What do you want?"

"Well," bill said, "you're a little bundle of Chaos. I like that. So i'm willing to strike a deal- you work for me, cause as much chaos as you can, and I spare you."

Anne sat there for a second and laughed. A full, hearty laugh.

"You really…" she gave out another chuckle. "You really think that I'm gonna make that deal? I mean, it's the one thing i've been told NOT to do."

"Well, I was sort of hoping you would," Bill groaned, pulling out a grenade. "Well, I guess it's time to-"

"No thank you!" Anne shouted. With a burst of strength she broke out of the ropes, put her mask back on and swung away.

"Oh, you have got to be kidding me…" bill said to himself.

———————————————

The team of four were running towards the brightcorp building, where Sasha's dad worked.

"Still can't believe you didn't tell me," Sasha said to marcy. It wasn't angry sounding, but marcy could tell Sasha was pissed.

"Look, we didn't know if we could trust you-"

"Awwww. You could have trusted me," Sasha replied with venom in her voice.

Marcy snapped.

"Do you even realise how DIFFICULT this has been for me?"

Sasha looked at her, curious, but said nothing.

"I invented what is basically a superhuman serum. Already quite morally questionable. Then I accidentally give it to one of my best friends. That's a problem. I roped Anne into it.

"Then she decides to become a masked vigilante, and i have to keep it quiet because it's technically my fault! To add to that, you've been acting weird for a while and not only do you have a crush on your best friend's alter ego, but I know who she is! This has been so unnecessarily awkward for me!"

Sasha stared at marcy, jaw slightly agape.

She had always considered marcy a friend but… she was always happy to go along with stuff. Heck, she still managed to follow her around in her jerk phase when she was 13. She had never seemed that complex of a person.

"…i-I'm sorry."

"Well, you can make it up to me," Marcy said. "What can you do to help save Anne here?"

"Well, i guess i could-"

RING RING!

Sasha took out her phone.

'Mom'.

She picked it up.

"Honey, where are you? It's dark. Why aren't you at home?!"

"…mom, you're actually home?"

"Well, I've been feeling really bad recently about not being there for you but THAT'S NOT THE POINT, YOUNG LADY. WHERE ARE YOU?!"

Sasha looked to marcy, panicked. 'What do i do?' She mouthed.

'Tell her to meet up with us' marcy mouthed back.

"We need the help," ford said in a low voice to Sasha.

She took a deep breath.

"Mom, i'm sending you my location. Meet up with us there, okay? And… don't freak out."

———————————————

Once she was sure bill had lost her, Anne stopped swinging and landed in an alleyway, taking a deep breath.

"I've really gotta cut back on the fast food," she wheezed to herself.

It was then that her tingle went off.

"Hands in the air."

Turning around, she saw none other than ms. Waybright.

"…ma'am, this is really not the time-"

"Hands. In. the air."

Anne begrudgingly put her hands up.

"You know, i'm off duty right now. In fact, i was just about to go pick up my daughter because she's out for some stupid reason. Imagine my surprise when I see you, swinging into an alleyway. Looking more panicked than ever.

"We had a deal, kid. Take the mask off."

"Bu-"

"Mask off. NOW."

"You're going to attract him!" She said in a panicked whisper.

"…who?"

From the distance, a voice was heard."RIGHT SHE IS. GOTTA HAND IT TO YOU WOMAN, YOU ARE UNBELIEVABLY LOUD, AND THAT'S COMING FROM SOMEONE WHO SPEAKS MOSTLY IN CAPITAL LETTERS!"

"Oh, no…"

Officer Sandra Waybright recognised that voice now.

Anne turned back to her.

"Officer, you're going to need to trust me."

She pulled up her mask revealing her face.

"…wh…Anne??"

"No time. We need. TO GET AWAY."

Anne pulled her mask back down and picked up the bewildered chief, then proceeded to swing away before their pursuer could catch up to them.

"Where did Sasha tell you to meet up?"

———————————————

Sasha paced around the small park.

"She should have been here at least 5 minutes ago!" Sasha said. "The house isn't THAT far from here."

"Maybe she got backup? You did make yourself sound really suspicious."

"Alright, young lady, you've got some EXPLAINING to do."

Her mom and Anne were standing at the entrance of the park, Anne looking a little sheepish even under the mask.

"Hi, guys…" she said.

Ford spoke up.

"Officer, I can assure you there is a perfectly reasonable explanation for this. If you let me exp-"

"Oh, i'm coming for you after, PINES. Do you know how irresponsible you were not telling me Anne was involved? She's a child! And you," she turned to Marcy, "I'd be scolding you extremely loudly if i didn't know we were being chased by a crazy man! Lying to the police about your involvement? Marcy, i thought you were the responsible one-!"

"Ma'am, with all due respect, shut up," Stanley said, walking up to her. "We don't have time for this. Can you just let us catch you up?"

She raised an eyebrow. "Sure."

———————————————

"Ugh… i knew there was a reason I divorced him," Ms. waybright said. "His whole workaholic thing has gone too far at this point…"

"You're… taking this surprisingly well," marcy mused.

"Yeah, well that's what the past 2 months has done to me. Having to deal with more crime than the past 5 years combined and in the form of your best friend in a onesie," she growled at Anne.

"What the hell are you wearing?"

Sasha hesitated.

"Sasha, I won't be angry…. Not until this is over," she added under her breath.

"…I joined a gang, okay?"

"YOU WHAT?" Immediately Stanley clasped a hand to her mouth.

"We don't need your family squabble. Right now we need to solve the other family squabble in the form of your ex being possessed by a dorito psychopath."

"Dorito?"

"Long story."

———————————————

Marcy, Anne and Sasha sat on a bench While the adults were talking.

"…so… how are you two doing?" Marcy asked.

"Fine."

"Ok."

Neither of them looked at each other.

Marcy grew impatient.

"So… you guys wanna… talk or something?"

"Not especially."

"I'm good, thanks."

"Oh, come ON!"

Marcy stood up and pushed them closer together.

"We are in a life threatening situation and you two are choosing now to ghost each other? Get annoyed all you want once we've dealt with this. Until then, just TALK, for FUCK'S sake."

Silence. Then a giggle.

"Mar-mar… did you just swear?" Anne asked, amused.

"You should see me gaming," she said under her breath, before leaving.

A few seconds passed before Anne spoke up.

"She's right, you know."

Sasha rose to the statement fairly quickly. "Hey-"

"I'm sorry."

"You-what?"

"I'm sorry," Anne repeated simply. "For not telling you. The past 2 months or so have been… a rollercoaster, to say the least. I've been trying to keep my identity hidden as not just a scientific anomaly, but as a public celebrity slash illegal vigilante."

She began to tear up.

"I should have known to trust you. I'm… sorry."

And she looked directly into Sasha's eyes, making the Waybright blush.

"And y'know… maybe after all this, we can give this a chance."

"That's if my mom hasn't thrown you in prison already," she joked. "Seriously, though… I'm… I like that idea." They got slightly closer.

"Alright, that's enough fluff, lovebirds," Stanley said, pulling them both apart, to be met with scowls. "Brother in christ, you're both almost as unbearable as Mabel. Anyway, we got a plan."

Walking towards Stanford, Marcy and the Chief, they all turned to Them and opened their little circle wide enough for them to join in.

"Nice of you to finally join us," officer Waybright said.

"So, do you have backup coming?"

"I'm afraid not, miss Boonchuy. Bill isn't stupid, he'll be keeping tabs on our calls. We're on our own."

Marcy piped in too. "And he'd expect us to go back to the police station now that he knows the chief is involved. He knows who you are, Anne and Sasha, and most likely knows where you live, so we don't really have a base of operations, except…"

"Except what?"

"…my house?"

———————————————

"I still can't believe we're using a basement in a child's house as our base," Stanley complained. "What the heck do we even have here? And are we sure her parents won't wake up?"

"Oh, don't worry, I soundproofed the place a while ago, metalwork makes a lot of noise," Marcy explained. "Plus, we do in fact have quite a lot here!" She pushed a bookcase on hidden wheels aside to reveal a nook with a desk, full to the brim with boxes of parts.

"…marcy, you know this is breaking multiple laws, right?" The chief asked rhetorically.

"You complaining?"

"Not right now."

Stanford pulled out a painful looking gun.

"Well, I for one am really quite thankful for this. You did this all yourself?" He asked, confused at how a child accomplished all this. Sounded like some plot convenient bull. "I WOULD make a memory gun, but Bill's probably thought of a way around it. We're gonna have to find a way to restrain mr. Waybright so that we can figure out how to help him later."

"That's your plan?" Sasha asked.

"No," marcy replied. "That's the objective."

———————————————

Bill silently glided through the alleys of the LA suburbs.

"And here I was, hoping i'd find you quickly," he said to himself. "Looks like today's your lucky day, olive branch."

"Looking for us?"

He turned around to see the pines twins, grinning at him.

"You two!" he said. "Sixer, bootleg sixer! I've been meaning to have a little chat with you-"

Suddenly a pain hit his right shoulder, penetrating his armour.

"OW, WHAT THE HELL? WHAT WAS THAT?"

"Like it?" Stanford asked.

"We call it the 'gun.'"

"HA, HA. VERY FUNNY. IF I STILL HAD MY POWERS I'D TURN YOU INSIDE OUT IN THE LEAST FAMILY FRIENDLY WAY POSSIBLE!"

"Ugh. I knew there was a reason I divorced you."

Bill turned around, to see his vessel's ex.

For a second oliver broke through. "Sandra? I-I'm sorry! I don't want to hurt you or sasha! A-anyone for that matter!"

"I told you OVER and OVER again. 'Oliver, you spend too much time in that stupid lab of yours.' 'Oliver, spend some time with Sasha. She needs it.' Look where we are now. You're being posessed by a raging psychopath, our daughter joined a GANG, and i'm stuck in the middle!"

Bill took back control. "Ugh, YOUR MARITAL SQUABBLE IS SO MUNDANE. JUST DIE ALREADY!"

"Gotta catch us first!" They all shouted in unison, before racing off in different directions from the alley.

———————————————

Sasha, Anne and Marcy were on a rooftop.

"So remind me the plan?" Anne asked.

"Ok, so Anne, you're gonna have to carry Sasha and swing her down. The bomb she's holding is magnetic and should attach to his board, preventing him from flying. It's full of webs too, which should restrain him and stop him from moving. It's vital that you don't get stuck in the webs, Sasha, or they'll harden around you and you'll become immobile midair, and fall to death."

"Got it. And you?"

"What? No, I made the bomb. That was my part. Plus, I'm not good at combat unless it involves mashing buttons and/or a convoluted point system-"

"CHEESE SAUCE THE DORITO!"

"That's our signal!" Anne said, quickly picking Sasha up. "You ready?"

"As i'll ever be."

"Good enough!"

Anne jumped off the side, seeing bill on his glider, gaining ground on the Stans. Officer waybright had taken off in a different direction.

She swung…

And was batted away by Bill. Sasha's grip on the bomb dissapeared and it flew in an arc, ending behind a car.

"YOU SERIOUSLY THOUGHT THAT WOULD WORK?"

———————————————

Miss Waybright was seriously out of her depth.

She was on a team with hyper geniuses, people who had experience in the supernatural, people who WERE supernatural, and her own daughter, who was worryingly skilled at this.

This was why she was currently hiding behind a car.

Until something plonked next to her. The bomb! Wait… the bomb.

They had failed…

Unless she did something.

———————————————

Anne took Sasha and swung back up to the top of the building.

"WHAT HAPPENED?" Marcy cried desperately.

"It failed. He's… probably coming for us now."

"WELL, GIRLS!" The figure of bill rose to their level, gliding on the edge of the rooftop. "I'D SAY IT WAS A PLEASURE KNOWING YOU, BUT I'D BE LYING!"

Suddenly from the enterance to the roof a new figure emerged.

Miss waybright. Officer waybright. Sasha's mother.

Holding the bomb.

"WE HAVE A DAUGHTER, YOU IDIOT!" She shouted at bill.

And oliver broke through again.

He stood there, looking at the group of 3 teenagers and a very pissed off looking woman, and gained a resigned looking face on him. He took off the helmet.

"Do what you must."

Sandra asked marcy, "this should stop him, right?"

"…yes, but-"

"And he'll just bat it away if I leave it there?"

"I guess so-"

"So someone needs to hold it down."

Marcy's facial expression quickly changed. "Wait- no! Don't do this- you'll fall!"

She took a few steps backwards, preparing for a runner up.

"-SASHA NEEDS YOU!"

This made her visibly shiver.

"I… I love you, Sasha. And I always will. You're my daughter. And I didn't give you what you needed. You don't need to love me back. And i'm… sorry for what i'm about to do. But If I don't, it'll only hurt you more.

"Bye, sweetie."

And she took a massive run up, leaping onto the board and grappling onto Oliver as much as she could.

"This is NOT a hug."

"I know."

And she pressed the detonation, covering them both (and the glider) in webs. A few sparks later and they began to fall.

Those few seconds were the longest of Sasha's life.

Mom… Dad…

Never, not since the age of 6, had she ever considered them parental figures.

Dammit, mom. You just had to make a heartfelt speech. She could only manage two inaudible words through her tears.

"Fuck you."

Anne tried to save them. She really did.

She wasn't quick enough.

When she turned back around, she could see Sasha, visibly in tears- a rare sight.

"Sash… it's gonna be ok…"

"No. It won't."

"We'll be there for you."

"No."

She took a step away.

"I need some time alone."

She ran down the stairs before anyone could say anything.

———————————————

The funeral was hard on everyone.

Of course, lots of family and the entire police force attended the (seperate) funerals of oliver and Sandra Waybright. So did the boonchuys and the Wus.

Sasha was still missing. The police force had confirmed that they were looking, but they were in a state of disarray after their chief had died.

The position for CEO of bright-way incorporated was handed to some rando on the executive board. It said on his will that the position would be given to sasha, but one: she was still 16, and two: she was missing.

During both funerals, there was general gossip over where sasha was. Some were out of anger ("she has the gall to not show up to both her parent's memorials!") and some worry. ("I do hope she's ok.")

Out of the corner of her eye on both funerals, however, she did see someone. There was somebody watching from afar.

And the blonde hair gave away who.

Sasha was still out there, and it was Anne's job to find her.

END OF ARC 2

So, that's the end of the waybright arc! Poor sash :(

Of course, this is NOT the end of Sasha's arc, and this is DEFINITELY not the end of the toads. That stuff is yet to come, i just wanted to set it up during this because i thought it'd make since. I have a good few arcs planned, but for now I'm going to have a little break from this fic, maybe a month, so that I can come up with good ideas and not write dogcrap. Don't worry, though, to like the one person who reads this, it WILL return! I ain't done with this fic yet!

Hope you enjoyed!
