Ami enjoyed bubble baths. Bubble baths had been filled with a layer of soap bubbles on the surface. Her mornings began with her taking a bubble bath early in the morning before school began. She came to know that most people only took one bath a day and it was usually at nighttime so they would not go to bed feeling unclean and water was expensive, but this was a luxury she could indulge in due to her mother Saeko's job as a doctor. Ami did read a book and soak in the hot water in the bathtub which made her aches go away.
"What shampoos does your mother buy, Ami-chan?" Makoto asked her when the girls were discussing their favorite shampoos.
"Mom buys a wide variety of shampoo, Mako-chan,'" Ami answered. "She can never find a scent that she likes best for long. She does try them all—apple blossom shampoo, camelia shampoo, cherry blossom shampoo, mandarin orange shampoo, plum shampoo, rose shampoo, and strawberry shampoo, but she gets sick of all of them after a while. However, she does enjoy the same kind of bubble bath that I use every morning."
"Bubble baths are so good!" Minako burst out. "I come to treat myself to a relaxing soak in the tub with long-lasting bubbles and surrounded by a blissful fragrance of cedar and citrus every night if I can. I do love how it leaves one' s skin feeling refreshed and silky soft. What bubble bath do you and your mom use, Ami-chan?"
"Cherry blossom," Ami answered. "Mom does say it makes her feel feminine after pampering herself with the alluring fragrance of cherry blossoms accented by jasmine and sweet red fruit. I enjoy using it because I like the scent of cherry blossoms even though Water Lilies are my favorite flowers."
"Why do you take a bubble bath in the morning, Ami-chan?" Rei asked. "I always thought that you would be too busy in the mornings to do so since you get to school forty-five minutes early and read a book. Is that not part of your everyday routine?"
"It is," Ami answered, "but I have a lot to do after I get home from cram school. I have to finish all of the chores—bedmaking, coming to wash and dry the dishes, dusting, ending up vacuuming the floors, and folding laundry when I get home that I did not manage to do before I go to school. It makes life easier on my mother that way, but after that I do my homework and end up studying for exams until about ten or eleven o'clock at night before I go to bed and by then I am too tired to take one at night, so I wake up at five o'clock in the morning to do so."
"Do you read then too, Ami-chan?" Usagi butt in.
Ami's face flushed red. "Yeah," Ami answered, "I do. I end up having a lot of books I own that I like to read for fun, but I always study when I go home so I read in the bathtub after I wake up. I like to read every moment that I can, so I seize every time that I do have a chance to do so."
"So, you like bubble baths for reading?" Makoto commented with a knowing smile on her face.
"Yes," Ami declared with a smile on her face, "I do. I enjoy relaxing with a good book, especially in the bathtub especially when the hot water comes up to your shoulders and the bubbles of the bubble bath dance across the water like waves of the ocean. I feel one with water. Water gets to be a part of who I am, and the basic characteristics of my own personality and I have no shame in that."
The other girls agreed with her on that.
